  • In mid July we hiked 125km over 9 days in Picos de Europa National Park, Spain. The Anillo de 3 Macizos is a circular route that connects 9 mountain huts and has a total elevation gain of over 9000m.
    Camping is not allowed inside the park but following a few regulations you can set up a camp for a short overnight stay.
    This was filmed entirely with a GoPro Hero 7.
    You can find a complete and interactive guide for this hike on our web page: takeahike.io

      Thanks Mustafa! You could sleep and eat in the refugios during the whole trail and it's recommended to book them in advance. Some of them are really popular and they get booked up during the high season.

    beautiful video. Planning on doing the same trail this summer. what are some of the regulations to follow for camping? and resources you could send over?

    • @laueronen
      @laueronen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!
      You can put up a tent if you are above 1600 meters. Also, you can only put it up one hour before sunset and you need to take it down one hour after sunrise.
      If you meant to send some resources via mail I wouldn't recommend that. I don't think there's any post office in the villages the route goes through.
      We carried most of our food from the beginning and re-stocked a little bit in Valdeón (there´s a tiny supermarket there). Also you could eat lunches in the villages and some dinners in the refugios to avoid carrying too much food.

      @@laueronen Hi,thank you....I hope to go in July. I'll have time for a 5 day trek in Picos de Europa. What would you recommend for 5 days ?

    • @laueronen
      @laueronen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mont1752 That's amazing you're planning to go there! The good thing with the route is that it has quite a few alternative trails you can take in order to make it shorter. My favorite parts were Poncebos to Refugio Vega de Ario, Refugio Vegarredonda to Refugio Vegabaño, Valdeón to Refugio Collado Hermoso and of course the area around Refugio Vega de Urriellu which sits right under the Pico Urriellu.
      In five days maybe you could do something like this: Poncebos - Vega de Ario - Valdeón - Collado Hermoso - Vega de Urriellu (through Cabana Veronica) - Jou de Los Cabrones - Poncebos. Depends a lot how much you're able to hike on each day. You could even do Vega de Urriellu to Poncebos in one day though it would be a very long one.
      Also the starting points are flexible: you can start from Poncebos, Valdeón or Fuente De.
      I hope this info helps! :)

      @@laueronen Hi Laura, thank you very much for taking the time providing all that useful info. I'll have a look at these options,they sound great. I don't mind hiking long days,less time in the tent at night. I normally go to the Pyrenees or Dolomites but I've been looking at Picos de Europa for a while now. I live in Scotland. Thanks again, M.

      @@laueronen Hi Laura, thanks for the info you gave me,it was very useful. I went to Picos de Europa last August.I only hiked for 3 days.I started in Cordinanes de Valdeon to Collado Hermoso and camped at Cabana Veronica.I then hiked down to Poncebos via Refugio Urriella (rain and cloud that afternoon).The 3rd day I hiked from Poncebos back to Cordinanes de Valdeon.
      I may return this August and hike from Poncebos/Vega de Ario/Vegarredonda/Vegabano/Urriella.
      I didn't get to watch the trek you did in France,you seem to have removed it ?
      Thanks again,Mont.

    I love this genre, which I regard as an important new art form, with its own rules (silence, of course, but also that very involving aspect of always showing how the hiker sustains their effort with food, drink, and rest). For my own part I will say, don't be afraid to make your videos longer. My favourite shots were the setting sun rolling down the edge of the mountain at about 2.55, walking into the mist at 9.04 onwards, and (forgive me, I am quite old and sentimental) your radiant smiles. I venture a suggestion: at 6.44 you get to a viewpoint by stepping past what appear to be some irises growing: maybe linger on the near at hand beauty and then sweep out to the landscape? For what we see at our feet is a big part of being on a walk. I wish you many rewarding hikes, and will look forward to your future videos. Roy in England, subscriber 100.

      Hey Roy,
      Thank you so much for your kind comment! I love to hear feedback of the clips you liked and the parts where I could improve. I'm still learning and experimenting with the camera but I'm hoping to get better little by little.
      I want to focus on the storytelling so I'm hoping the videos transmit more than just nice views.
      And thank you for subscribing. :)

      Thank you for your comment! I'm so happy you enjoyed it. You should definitely plan your Picos hike, it's one of my favourite ones. I had a topographic map by Alpina 25 and I also use maps.me app. I create the route on the app by pinning places. We are currently working on a webpage where we'll have all the info and routes of our hikes, but I'm not sure when we'll be able to publish. 🤞

    Hi @Laura, amazing video! My partner and I are planning to do this now in July. One question: where do you leave the car? How did you guys get to Poncebos? We thought about driving since we live in Portugal and dropping the car somewhere there, but I am not sure where we would leave it. Many thanks!

    • @laueronen
      @laueronen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Thalita,
      That's amazing you´re doing the hike!
      We had a car and we left it in Poncebos. There are a few public parking slots next to the Hostal Poncebos or if you don't manage to park there there are several other parking places along the road that leads to Poncebos. However in that case you might need to walk some extra km in order to get to the trail head.

    • @thalita_milan
      @thalita_milan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@laueronen Thank you so much for replying, dear! 🤗 We might leave the car in a Public Parking slot then and start the trail from there. Considering it was July when you did it, was it too cold at night? I am starting to think about my backpack weight and trying to figure out how much extra layers I need to bring. We are probably going to end up pitching the tent (following those rules about the minimum height) so there will be some wild camping involved. Any other tips are super appreciated! 😍😍 Many many thanks! Greetings from Portugal

    • @thalita_milan
      @thalita_milan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And just before I stop bothering you 😂 Can we count on getting water and food from refugios? As in, do they sell it for people who are not sleeping there? I read somewhere that supplies are quite limited so this is why I ask. My boyfriend and I are a bit concerned about spending too much time without water 😖 Many thanks again!

    • @laueronen
      @laueronen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries, I’m happy to help! 😊
      I had a sleeping bag that had a comfort zone -3c and I felt fine all nights. My boyfriend had a sleeping bag with comfort zone +5 and he was feeling chilly on some nights. I don’t remember what were the actual temperatures at night but maybe the sleeping bags give some reference.
      If you want to eat at the refugios you should make a reservation because they need to plan the dinners beforehand.
      For example we ate at refugio collado hermoso and we booked and payed the dinner in advance.
      Drinks you should always be able to buy. If you pass by the refugios during the day it’s nice to have a break and enjoy a coffee.
      Water is becoming a bigger issue every year, some of the water fountains we passed were dried up. Each refugio has a water fountain where you can fill up your bottles, but for example at refugio vega de ario the fountain almost completely dried up by the evening. During the day it’s just safer to carry extra water.
