    After countless tries using pulling with straps, prying with a made tool I made, pushing the plastic pins with pliers etc., the method that worked was to use simple rubberized work gloves for grip, stand next to the fuel tank and push backwards - not to the side or pull anywhere. After some force and a few jiggles, it worked. This is all you need, no need to buy any suction cups or anything of the like, pulling it will not exert enough force.

    I’ve spent an hour struggling trynna take it off and I couldn’t find a single video to help but if you put a shoe lace behind the tail light ( far pointy end facing towards the front of the car ) & make a knot & tug the living shit out of it pulling straight back it’ll come right out.
    PSA it’s gonna feel like your gonna break the light but be careful because once it comes out it’s gonna fly out & I had to catch the light as I was falling back from the force of taking the light out or back it up into some grass so you don’t damage the light if you don’t manage to catch it in time.

    • @ReveMoto

      Hello and that is a great way to remove the light. We thought our tail light was the only difficult one. Turns out Hyundai just has tough tail lights. We also, used a plastic panel tool to pop the light out near the trunk, then wiggle it the pointy end (part closest to the door) out. Thank you for your tip and helping everyone out!

    no one tells you can NOT get your fingers under the small end of the light.. its being held in by 2 plastic "dart" connectors that DO NOT like to let go. just pulling it doesn't work.. i suggest you use a small suction cup on the small end of the light and push OUT TO THE REAR on the inside screws until it pops out of the plastic dart sockets... YOU SHOULD HAVE SOMEONE THERE TO CATCH IT TOO.. THERE IS ALSO a slotted fitting ring at the small end of the light. it must be pulled straight out. DO NOT PRY ON IT !!! .. they break... easily... now that i had to buy a light since it broke in my hands, you have my experience to guide you BEFORE you pull all your hair out or, beat the quarter panel to death.... IT DOES HOWEVER GO BACK IN VERY EASILY.. IMAGINE THAT......

      Hello and yes, this video should apply. We originally thought the bumpers were the same but the model range is from 14-16 and this Elantra SE is from 17-18. They are really similar bumpers, except for the styling on the bottom is slightly different, and the reflectors. The bumpers are the same shape and the headlights are installed the same way, they're just shaped differently.

    Yo at the beginning of the video you say " you have to remove the taillights before you can remove the bumper" then you show her pulling the taillight with the bumper already off. People have a hard time with this light because there isnt any way to get leverage on those clips with the bumper in the way. Shame guys, shame.

    • @ReveMoto
      @ReveMoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great point. This customer had her bumper break off clean in her accident. There was no bumper to remove at all. I did mention this in the bumper video but I also made this as a separate video in case folks were looking to remove the tail lights ONLY and not the rear bumper. That piece of info is missing in the video.
      The reason you have to remove the tail lights first, is there are plastic push-pins/clips (5:41) that secure the bumper to the bracket underneath the tail light. Most tail lights hard to remove because of build over time on the seams. The TH-camr before commented about the tail light, you just have to use force or hammer the prongs of the tail light with a rubber mallet (from the inside) or something that wont bend or strip the prong. I hope that helps you out.

    It popped right out for me. The assembly needs to be pulled out in the direction toward the rear of the car. Do not pull outward. If you are standing at your back bumper facing your trunk, pull towards your body.
    After taking off the screws and that clip, I used a flathead screwdriver where the clip was and applied force against the metal towards me, all while gently pulling on the entire light from the outside, and it popped right out.

Just find one good mechanic that can remove the housing and replace the bulb for you, do not go to a Hyundai dealer to get ripped off. I’m being told by a body shop they will have to reset the computer after removal and reinstall of the tail lights on an 2018 Elantra. Is this true?

    • @ReveMoto
      @ReveMoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. No, I don't believe so. I have never had to reset the ECU (computer) when we changed these tail lights this car or any other vehicle. If you are experiencing some kind of a "short circuit" with your rear tail lights, that might be a fix for it. A cousin of mine had his tail lights flickering on his Chevy truck and that was due to some electrical problem. But, no, just removing the tail lights would not require you to reset the ECU (computer) on the car itself. I would get a second or third opinion. I hope this helps!

    • @ghettoxbarbie

      ReveMoto - Pre-Painted Auto Body Parts actually I’m being told the tail light and rear bumper need pulled to repair a dent in the wheel well. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I thought that was fishy but when I was told the computer would need to be reset after putting the tail light back in I really thought it was fishy.

    • @ReveMoto
      @ReveMoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ghettoxbarbie Yeah, I would go to another shop just to see what hey say. It's hard for us to know because we haven't seen the car. You do have to remove the lights to get the bumper off. That is true, but I am not sure about removing the bumper to fix a dent. That sounds possible but it depends on the location of the damage. Sometimes the panel behind the bumper can be damaged, based on the severity of the accident. However, the whole computer-ECU reset sounds off to me. Having or causing electrical problems is a huge headache on any car. Good luck!

    Best way to get this light assembly off without damaging anything is to remove the bolts and the rubber plug then take a long socket extension and place it in the hole against a flat spot make sure it's not against the light caps or anything you will damage. The hard clip holding it is under the narrow piece of the light if you wiggle the light lose and squirt a bunch of lubricant behind where the clip is it should release easier from the clip. Then cover the light in duct tape leaving some hanging at the back to grab and pull it backwards. When all this is done get 2 people one to hammer the extension from behind and the other to tug on the duct tape. It will take some force but it will pop out. I struggled with this thing for months until this worked for me. Good luck it's a huge pain really poor design.

      @ReveMoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Yeah, we cut the video because this one was also stuck a little bit. We didn't have footage of taking the tail light out but there are a couple tricks you can do.
      1.Try to "jiggle" the tail light out as you pull it out.
      2. You can get a hammer or use anything blunt to hammer the threaded prongs (threaded screws) out. I think we just use the blunt end of the screwdriver. Make sure that you are holding the mirror as you "hammer" the threaded screws outwards. Sometimes, it just needs a good hit to pop out.
      3. If that doesn't work, just make sure your not missing any nuts that weren't removed. I'm pretty sure you got them all but the "hammer" technique should the the trick.
      I hope this helps! Let us know the outcome.

    • @ReveMoto
      @ReveMoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@babu670 Hello. There are 2 nuts/fastener ( 1:05 ) holding the tail light in and those white prongs have the two furthest prongs of the tail light that clip in there ( 2:06 ). As you see, we pulled it out without removing the plastic pieces. I know that over time the bolts need a good hit to get out of place. You just have to pull it with a lot of force. If you need assistance, you can use the blunt end of your screwdriver or a rubber mallet and gently tap metal bolt/threaded screw out. That usually does the trick. I hope this helps!

    Here's what worked for me, and mine were STUCK. I undid the two screws but did NOT touch the harness...you'll want that and the gromet in place. I grabbed a flathead, a shop cloth and a hammer, went to that sharp edge of the taillight, put the cloth underneath the screwdriver, and worked it underneath that edge. Once you got your cloth under there, remove the screwdriver. Work the cloth in to where you can completely cover that corner and use the rest of it to pull back, giving you leverage. Now, have one hand gripping the cloth and pulling backward, while your other hand is hammering on the threaded studs. It'll pop right off. If I had disconnected the harness and dislodged the gromet, the light would have shot off on to the ground.
