    Wow ! I LOVE you so much ! I sound a bit intense, but Oh man you just saved me SO much trouble. It's such a vital basic learning skill that should be taught in the DRS tutorials and it isn't, although they do warn us that if we move our files around in our PC it will be lost in Davinci as you are working on it. Thanks. Very helpful! Just to be clear, when you ‘open’ a folder in the relnking process, does Davinci look into any and all sub-folders, as well as sub-sub-folders in that ‘opened’ folder to link the media. I think it does, but some of the dialog boxes in the tutorial went by pretty quickly for me to be certain.
    Also, assumimg sub folders are auto relinked, if the sub folders in the new location do not have the same name as the sub folders in the original location, will it still work? For example, say if my original ‘Media’ folder had two sub folders, called ‘Music’ and ‘Video’ but in my new location all the media was relocated to a different drive, in a folder called ‘Assets’ instead of ‘Media’ and then sub folders called ‘Audio’ instead of ‘Music’ and ‘Footage’ instead of ‘Video’, would all the media relink when I simply ‘opened’ the new folder called ‘Assets’ ? Hope this question and example is clear to you.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will yes, thats why I showed in the video, copying the media to a separate drive, renaming the folders and then relinking. But you will need to know where the media is.

    This sounds like a great video, but I'm having issues with clips that I have renamed. It seems as though I should be able to point Davinci in the right direction just by telling what the new clip is/is called, but that doesn't seem to work. Do you have another solution for this, or the solution to just suck it up and not change file names?

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TBH changing the files names isnt the wisest move, unless done prior to project import. Its a tricky thing to advise on now as I cant see exactly whats what…I wouldn't want to cause more problems.
      I gather you also can see the original clip names in the project, but not what is meant to be seen, so it's hard to reference anything backwards?

    • @ezequielmochkovsky

      Im pretty sure this is a current resolve18 bug. I have noticed this issue flashing on and off sometimes, mainly on RAW files proxies that have been created using the proxy generator. If this is the case try turning the proxies off and putting the timeline into a different native resolution. Seemed to fix it for me. Happens a lot r5 and r5c Canon RAW lite files. If this is not the case, move or rename the source folder in your media storage, then relink the tradition way. Next In the project you don't what to re-edit export a XML or EDL then no matter what your edit is safe. In that same project go to your media pool, right click on the clip in question, select “replace selected clip” then navigate to where you have the renamed media select the clip that you changed the name off and hit ok. When i relink the files, only the audio works and the video still shows the 'media offline' - tried changing the file source as I am working on a different hard drive, relinking each file separately - nothing. Any ideas?

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try turning off proxy media. That could jog resolve into action.
      If that doesn't work export and XML or EDL, start a new project and import either the XML or EDL.
      But the media did copy correctly onto the "new drive location"?
      You can also try shifting the media in the new drive into a new folder and and then relinking from a new destination.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI there, dont stress - I have an answer for you. I have also experienced this issue, I would say it’s a bug. Render the project and go off the timecode where it shows you clips are missing. Then find the clips in the edit window timeline. If you simply double click the clip in the timeline so you it shows you the clip in the top viewer and in the clips bin, either reinsert the clip on the timeline or delete the clip on the timeline and then drag the same edited portion of the clip back into its spot. I have found, in the odd instances this has happened to me, this has fixed the problem.

    This is great for regular media clips but I'm having trouble with fusion clips being offline for some reason. After watching your video on importing psd files I tried it for myself and liked the motion graphic I created but every attempt to save it for future use has been met with the good ol' "media offline" message and I've tried macros, power bins, and saving it as a template I'm kinda at a lost on what I did wrong and the only clue I got is that layer 1 and media out are red and attaching any node to layer 1 causes every layer to go red. If you have an idea on why that is I would appreciate the advice.

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, firstly you cant use fusion clips in power bins. Thats not yet enabled in the program. Try selecting the media in the timeline, copy it - launch another project, go straight to the timeline and paste the media into the new project. Let me know if that fixes it?

      @@cinechimp thank you for replying! unfortunately I still get the "media offline" message I'm wondering if I need a media in node or something for it to properly work in other projects despite it working fine without one in the original?

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried duplicating it in the original timeline and then "rendering it in place"
      You can do this by right clicking the clip in the edit timeline.
      So correct me if I am miss interpreting; everything works and plays fine, it just wont render out?
      Super odd.

      @@cinechimp Hey I just tried it out and it works in the original project file and the macro i made also works in the original project file but when I try to use it in another project that's when the "media offline" message pops up when i place it on the time line. @@quwaberose4472 ok welll that goods news. Try duplicating the media to another source destination and then try and open it in another project. Sounds more like a system glitch to me. Also try saving a DRX file by right clicking on the timeline in the media pool in the edit page. And then try relinking the media in a new project that way as well.

    I'm tearing my hairs out no joke! I purchased an M1 iPad Pro recently so that I can edit while I'm out and about... I've always edited on my mbp machine using 3 SSDs at once due to the large size of the project. I got a an extra SSD and downloaded the proxies directly into it so that I can use on my iPad while both the original and proxy media stays on the 2 SSDs connected permanently to my map. The idea with this is to make it seem like a collaborator is working mainly with proxy files on the iPad while original media stays with the main user.
    All attempts to relink have been abortive! I have changed source file, created new bin, unlinked and relinked - NOTHING works! I'm not mad that I have spent a lot of money on the iPad but the fact that the main purpose for which I got it is not seeming like a reality at the moment. And I have watched tons of videos too. Can someone help with an advice that perhaps I haven't looked into? :(

    • @cinechimp
      @cinechimp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is because both systems have their own separate databases and are looking for the media in separate locations. I think the easiest solution for you would be to get something like the BMD cloustore which has come down in price considerably since I published this review th-cam.com/video/PR40c_7VZcI/w-d-xo.html
      Once you have an account setup, you should be access the media from anywhere in the world, and the Cloudstore will only upload proxies to the shared project file.
      I havent down this myself with an ipad, but that could be a solution for you to have both devices share the same projects.
      For your current project have you tried exporting an XML or EDL and importing into one or the other systems and them tried relinking the media and then redirecting the locations of the media files?
      Anyway hope this helps in some way.
