I just did 22 miles today of hard and fast riding and got 22 miles down to 20%. Mostly street at 45-55 mph but some really soft sand and river rock areas. Pretty damn impressed!!

For SURE! 45lbs makes a massive difference with ebikes. No reason you couldn't get 50 miles riding like in this video. Which is actually super impressive when you think about the range the old surrons got back in 2018-2020

Great test. Jives with my ~300 miles ridden on 2 brand new Sting R MX4 bikes. I installed a Renthal non O-ring chain on both of them but otherwise they have stock power trains. I ride a mix of roads and trails, a few technical single track sections, a few short hill climbs. I try to use the brakes as little as possible, using regen instead (always on level 4). I use Sport mode exclusively and I ride pretty fast most of the time. My average speed is typically about 28 MPH. For reference I'm just over 200 lbs with gear and 5'10" tall. I get about 40 miles from a full battery. Max speed is around 55 MPH. It's enough for me to get around town and enjoy myself. I'm usually done before the bike is 🙂

my modded surron for woods riding(ktm 65 forks, 16" rear tire, and gummy tires and 60v 63ah battery) at same power level(8kw) only get a little over 20miles. What about a real world off road test? Every video I've seen about this bike is on pavement but it looks like it's meant to be a dirt bike. On trails you'd be doing a lot more braking and accelerating instead of just going a flat speed the whole time which would significantly affect battery usage. I feel like none of the advertised ranges are actually accurate for off road use.

My upgrade battery with 2x the capacity(60v 63ah) I get a little over 20 miles with 8kw(same power as this bike but it has 60v 45ah) so Id guess it would be right in the 15-20mile range offroad. It’s still a blast. Don’t knock it til ya try it. Sure gas bikes go further.. there’s also a dozen things I can do with my Surron you could never do on a gas bike. Apples/Oranges. Just commuting it’s prolly not your best choice.. but for pure fun, hard to compare.

@@joshmaddux agree. They are totally different bikes. One like this would be cool for me so I could rip through my yard all weekend and nobody will care. If I took a weekend with friends on trails in the mountains I’d just get an extra battery. Swap out every 2hrs

There are a handful of expensive (by bicycle standards 🤣) e-bikes with 80~100mi range but if they sell well the market will become saturated with competitors and prices will drop. Aside from that prediction there may be a breakthrough with sodium ion batteries on the horizon. They'll charge faster and last longer but weigh a bit more than lithium so the legal limit for motor output will prly increase, but only to like 1000-1500W nominal. I'm just assuming that by viable you mean it MUST NOT require registration or annoying ass insurance payments just to cruise in peace.

New CATL batteries are 500wh per kilo and come out this year. They will triple the range and speed up charging. That'll get you 100-120 miles of range.

You can get away with riding this in a lot more places than you can with say a 2 stroke lol. It being quiet is a massive upside

Does the charger allow you to set a charge limit? For example 80 or 90%?
