  • In today's video, we're teaching you how to paint the Stormcast Eternals Annihilators from the brand new AOS Dominion box, in the classic 'Hammers of Sigmar' colour scheme. Purchase your Series D today! store.artis-opus.com/products...
    This tutorial is perfect for any Stormcast miniatures, whether you're looking for how to paint Sequitors, Retributors, or the new Praetors or Vindicators as Hammers of Sigmar/Classic SCE.
    It's packed with painting tips and tricks, including how to magically transform gold basecoats silver (see our Annihilator's shield and scale mail).
    This tutorial was done 100% manually, so it is perfect for people without an airbrush, or retributor armour spray, if you're using those just skip the basecoating section :).

    Lost the premiere, sorry (had to take kids and wife to swimming pool, 38ºC). Great work as usual Byron, congratulations. I see someone asked if wet palettes are overrated... well, here in Spain a wet palette is a great tool, almost obligatory. In hot and dry climates (Spain, Italy, southern France, Southern USA,...) saves lots and lots of paint.

    I was doing the drybrush of trollslayer orange(I think, the darker of the two between trollslayer and firedragon bright) over the red armour based off your first Blood Angels video.
    I have never heard of that technique before XD I am planning to watch the vindicators video soon though, I saw the intro and the matte black looks sick.
    I think colour wise it is not too bright, just that when drybrushing, other than the edges, it also kind of paints other areas I don't want to have the colour on. Like a dusty layer will form on say the armour panel for eg if I am drybrushing a panel edge.
    I'll try out washing and the eavy metal technique and if I still need help, I'll comment again. Thank you!

    A couple of questions though
    How would a thinned down Gore Grunta wash compare to your recipe? (Was given that tip by an excellent painter in my local group)

    • @ArtisOpus

      Hey dude, as long as you get the ratio right it'd be fine, you'd need a fair bit of medium but the somewhat shiny finish isn't a downside on metallics really IMO!

      Michael, mate, we've all been there! I've taught a lot of lessons, and with me reinforcing some 'non painters' have achieved amazing painting, often really shocking me (and producing very similar results). It doesn't always go to plan, but I bet you'd find the technique enjoyable, plus be pleased with some lovely paint jobs.
      Start simple, be honest with yourself on what doesn't work, and don't stretch too far, clean and simple on a unit can look insanely good.
      #1 Don't rush too much, 10% more care makes a big difference
      #2 Flat basecoats where needed make the world of difference, be patient, 2 thin coats if needed (e.g. shoulder pads here)
      #3 Have fun! Mistakes will happen, that's cool, learn and move on
      #4 These minis would be perfect, I couldn't recommend much more in warhammer than these stormcast

    Heya. So when I drybrush edges, I notice that sometimes my paint even though its quite dry and little, it still layers over the flat surfaces. Eg, I am trying to drybrush the top of a space marine's backpack for edge highlights, but I end up with a dusty layer across the entire top. Do you have any advise on how to prevent that? Thanks! :)

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, I presume this is when you have a high contrast? (e.g. black/dark blue - light grey edges, etc)
      You can take a technique from 'Eavy metal here, it's their 'fat pre-highlight-highlight' (there's no way in hell they call it that).
      I use this on our Vindictors video, it's a drybrush which feels like a bit of a waste of time, because it's barely any different from the basecoat, but it means that any edging that follows doesn't stand out as much, so gives you a bit of a transition.
      Another option is to wash the whole thing down.
      Is that helpful? If not let me know in another comment, YT isn't great for ongoing conversation notifications.

    I did a bottle of 50/50 Retributors and the Doombull and came out with a very copper look to the mixed blend. Is mixing it like that a bad idea compared to eyeballing it with a little bit of each when you go back to the pallet? I might try washing it and hitting it with Retributors and see if maybe it still works.

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love making mixes by the bottle! It's really efficient for army painting - maybe work it out with scroops/drops initially on a palette, then stick to that ratio for the final mix though? I imagine you'd need more like 1/4 or 1/5th doombull. The other issue could be if you didn't shake them thoroughly, before making the mix. What do you think?
