    Thanks for the info. Going to be putting this box on our fifth wheel. Can you give me some quick measurements?
    I have a B&W turnover ball. I am pulling with a 8'w x 9'l squared off flat bed. From center of ball to corner of bed, it's 74". Hitch mount sits about 2 1/2" below deck. Is the center of the hitch mount to front of trailer greater than 74" on your rig? I might have to have a custom extended 4" or 5" offset ball built.

    Wondering what clearance you are at above the bed rails because I noticed you have the taller ball in your bed. I have a B&W hitch in my bed and was wanting the Reese Goosebox, but wasn't sure if I had to also get a taller ball to get good bed clearance. I presently have 8 inches above the bed rails with the fifth wheel hitch and would like to keep it close to that with the Goosebox.

    I’ve got the Gen 2 goosebox that I use with my 2015 Ford F350 short box. I can’t get to 90 as my trailer will hit the back of the truck at almost the same moment the hitch makes contact with the box. But I still can turn pretty darn sharp. Still knowing that, you can’t beat the hitch for an ultra smooth ride going down the road. And being able to remove the ball and have the bed back in less than 10 seconds compared to a 5th wheel hitch was a big seller for me. Even with that little bit of extra clearance that you have I think the first time you’re on uneven ground you’ll hit. A lot also has to do with the type of 5th wheel trailer your pulling. My buddy has the gooseneck with a 2020 Ram 3500 short box, but his travel trailer is more rounded at the front. He can hit 90 degrees no problem.

    Great series of videos JD. We want to do this instead of the traditional setup so our bed will be useable when parked at different spots more than a night or two. I did notice the ball moving back and forth, is this normal with the puck setup? We will be going with the F450 dually setup as well. Just want to make sure there are no issues in doing the gooseneck style setup.

    Hey JD. The first time you use the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 try using the trailering app to help you check your trailering lights. My 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has it and it is a great feature. It applies the brake lights, goes between the right and left turn signals, and then flashes the hazard lights. Makes verifying your trailer lights are working much easier.

  • @T_RexDino
    @T_RexDino ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just curious, do you get anymore sway by swapping to goose over the normal fifth wheel? In my mind the additional flex available by not having the side to side support would allow the trailer to tilt(probably not at your weight class but in general).

    • @nickwestendorf1448
      @nickwestendorf1448 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The benefit of a gooseneck is that the pivot point of leverage of the trailer on the truck is much lower to the truck, so any sway of the trailer will be less felt in the truck moving side to side than with a fifth wheel hitch. look at the fifth wheel hitch point up 12 or so inches higher above the truck axles as a lever, if you push that lever side to side, it would rock the truck more than if you grabbed the goodeball and tried the same, its a MUCH smoother ride, less side to side AND less rise of the truck during acceleration and less dive of the truck during stopping. Its physics man.

    • @robv4053

      Not at all. For whatever reason, JD does have the cable in its keeper for one, but outside of that, in transit, you should have a lock on the latch or at least a hasp or pin.
