If you install hooks on both ends of you’re safety chains and use the correct rated shackle or eye bolts you can unhook you’re safety chains from the bottom of the goosebox and just leave them lay in the bed of you’re truck while traveling. That way no climbing in and out over the side of the truck while hitching
Trying to figure out the best method to do this right now. Do you have any more insight on how to ensure I’m buying the right eye bolts and additional hooks? Just want to make sure everything is rated properly thanks.
Best thing I ever did for my goosebox was put an Airlift compressor on the camper. Maintains the bag while bouncing down the road incase it purges and has the remote for filling and draining the bag when need be
I've had the gen I for five years now, it's a great product and I won't go back to a conventional fifth-wheel. As you said in your first gen III video, you do loose air over time and it's mildly inconvenient but it's really not a big deal. I carry an air compressor for my truck and trailer so topping it off is just part of my process.
I added the Gen 1 hitch when they were first available and have no regrets other than it does leak off air every now and then. Thank you for the tips on the release cable.
When I was considering the goosebox for a 5th wheel I was going to attach an onboard air system pump to the box itself and then have that always connected and use the remote to inflate as needed. I went with the Lippert Gooseneck Connect option which works nicely for the rhino frame.
That little cable stopper that keeps the hitch open is a liability!! I picked up my camper from my local Camping World service department and had no idea that they left my Gen2 Goosebox latched open so they could move it easier with a forklift. I towed it home without being latched on the ball!!! Nothing happened except I needed a new pair of shorts when I realized what I had done and learned a big lesson that day. Eat less mexican food!!
Maybe you’ve talked about this but can you fill that air bag with nitrogen? It’s more stable then compressed air, compressed air has moisture in it where the nitrogen would be cleaner. Just a thought. I’m doing homework on what we want to do when we get our RV.
You have super helpful videos! I have just added this 3rd Gen Goose Box to my Grand Design Reflection 320MKS. I pull with a Ford SD F250 woth 10800 package. I have the goosebox on the highest holes (to keep it as low as possible to my bedrail). I have the stock Ford Goose Ball (1/2 inch), but still am a little nose high. I had added Timbrens to my truck and so when i put the 5th wheel on the truck it only goes down about an inch. I love the pin box, but I'm a little concerned with the height.
They recommend 6" minimum between your bedrails and the bottom of the 5th wheel. We moved our tandem axles under the springs *and* paid for a 3" lift (the most Boise Spring Works would do without adding a subframe) to get our "older" 33' 5th wheel level (front to back) going down the road. We now have an aluminum flat bed so no more worries about clearance but the front end of our newer toy hauler is too high. Fortunately, our gooseneck adapter has a height adjustment so I'll shorten that as much as a can to get the trailer closer to level (front to back) while going down the road.
You don’t have to hold it open! Let the magnet do it! Connect a magnet to the end of the cable, then when you pull the cable, attach the magnet in the open position- bingo!
Great video. I currently have the Curt Crosswing setup and love it. Always thought a goosebox would be better. What do you have under your snap pads? I see larger footprint disks.
Love you content! Wonder if you could address this topic somewhere down the line? Why don’t manufacturers better balance or adjust the axels or better yet make axels positions adjustable so hitch weights can be adjusted to give like SRW 1 tons the ability to haul so of those heavier hitch weight 5th wheels? Always wondered why some 15,000 lbs 5th wheels have such high hitch weights. Thanks
So, JD, seems you're relying only on the spring latch on the lock pin??? Sorry, not for me, and I have been towing gooseneck for a half-century! Once on the ball, for me, that lock pin needs to be locked off with a padlock, clipped pin, etc... I simply have a mechanic's tire step that I use to lock and unlock the pin and makes the stock actuating cable simple to work and easily adjust the air pressure from that position.
So after watching your videos on the gen 3 , I got one installed . Ordered the air valve extensions and installed a longer cable too . My question is what lock is available for the gen 3 ?
JD - I am brand new to the Goosebox and I am wondering what grease you use for the ball in your truck bed? Is there anything to add to the Pin box other than greasing the zerks?
BTBRV- I just order a 24 F350 7.3 with 4.30 King Ranch Srw to tow a Montana 3901RK 14,800 dry. My question is, if I use a Reese goose box instead of a traditional fifth wheel hitch, do I run the risk of damaging the fifth wheel?
In my search for a 5th wheel receiver, I'm noticing that they are made specific for certain trucks. My question then is if you use top mounted bed rails that are universal, then isn't it a moot point?😢
Love your videos! We just bought Reese Goosebox Gen 3 for our new Paradigm. I am wondering if you know of a hitch lock that will work with this hitch. I have not found one for the Gen 3? Thanks for any help you can give!
The video from reese for disconnecting hitch just shows pulling cord and resting behind clip, then use jacks to raise of bed. There shouldnt be a reason to have to hold the release cable when disconnecting..?
I have a Keystone Cougar half ton 25RES that shows a gross weight of 10,000lbs and weighs 7860lbs dry. Would the 16K goosebox be enough or should I be looking at the 20K?
Reports? Lol! It's the design of the Goosebox. It's a hinged assembly that's cushioned via an airbag and dampened by a pair of shocks. When you reverse, you're folding the hinge. It can only deflect a marginal amount.
I have a 2017 F450. Almost the exact high and setup. I put it in the highest bolt position on the fifth wheel. The position that gives the most clearance
A comment....you said you wanted to see if the new design would hold air for a longer period of time, and before you gave it a chance you added a connection which has the potential to leak and not give an accurate indication of what the new bag will do. Good content but if you want to review it, use it the way it was intended and then modify it. I get it, its like buying a new truck and then not putting floor mats in, because thats what you want. Side note, if you would slip something like those shoe lace holders, also used on backpacks and camping gear, the ones that you push down the button or both sides and it opens to allow a string to slide or lock, ...over the cable before crimping it, you could slide that down to your magnet and hold the cable when uncoupling and the slip it back up when connecting, that would hold the lock open, shouldnt take much pressure.
Jd, set your air bag pressure hooked up. Disconnect and check the psi unhooked. Then you can make that a prehook up check. Seems a far easier method.

You did a nice fix on the cable, you should build that with a nice handle and produce that item.

Love your videos and information provided. Would love to see a video on how the air pressure holds in the Goosebox.
Very innovative fix for the air valve.
Lol those Sandhills are squawking up a storm during your video. My ADD made me have to rewind a couple of times. Good video

Magnet attach the braided airline extension.
You can easily reach the pull cable with the tailgate in the up position. Then drop the tailgate. 😮
Negative.
Is the Reese Goosebox compatible for those of us with flatbed trucks where the gooseneck ball is down inside a box below the flatbed level?
The shader valve cap from Reese has an o-ring on the cap that is a second seal inside the blue sleeve
Can you use the magnet bracket that you used for the cable to retain to the air hose?
My thoughts exactly!

Love the cable Mode. Would it not be better to just screw the cable guide to the hitch.? Seems like the Mag is not the answer.
My hitch squeaks a lot. Any suggestions? Thank you for your videos.
Put A Loop behind the Washer at the Bolt.

Nice that Lippert ok’s these hitches! I would be interested if that valve loses air.
Air bag is made of rubber which is always somewhat permeable to air molecules so it’s naturally going to lose air, just like tires.
lipert oks them because they are getting paid

Did I see your rv has air pump to blow water lines out to winterize? Would you make a video showing this pump please
JD - I am brand new to the Goosebox and I am wondering what grease you use for the ball in your truck bed? Is there anything to add to the Pin box other than greasing the zerks?
Could you use another magnet and screw your extension valve hook-up to it?

Where is the link to the air fittings you bought for the airbag
So how did you end up doing with losing air over time?
Not a design flaw, a design cost saver for profit, just like the cable pull.
In my search for a 5th wheel receiver, I'm noticing that they are made specific for certain trucks. My question then is if you use top mounted bed rails that are universal, then isn't it a moot point?😢
I checked but dont see what the Solar panel is for. What does it power?

I'd have to check. I honestly haven't install a lock on mine yet
Okay, thanks.
Why the heck did they not do that 45 degree air valve in the first place at the factory

16k won't be manufacture until nov - maybe they are switching to the new gen?
dose the gen III clear the bed sides better than gen I or II?
I have read comments that the trailer shifting forward as you back up. Have you noticed this?
Maybe by about 1"

I'm debating getting a b&w slider 5th wheel or the goosebox for my 2020 ram short bed and do have the turn over ball already any advise?
For a short bed truck? Get a slider
Anyone running this hitch with the 2021 f350 dually? Trying to figure out best place for bolts (clearance)
I have a 2017 F450. Almost the exact high and setup. I put it in the highest bolt position on the fifth wheel. The position that gives the most clearance
@@BTBRVReviews thanks!! Does that give about 6 or 7” ?
I just don’t want to be “nose high.”
Has anyone seen stability issues going from 5th wheel to gooseneck? Like windy days while towing
I just had my order from etrailer for a Gen 3 cancelled as product no longer available. Any idea what’s up?
I was chatting with etrailer on May 25th. I was advised they didn't have them in stock,.
@@petewebber8671 yes they cancelled my order and I got elsewhere. Google search and located one.
Why can't you order it from Reese

So, If I where Reese, I’d hire you and actual user not designer to build immediately Gen 4.
CHEEP and GEN III Reese Goose Box should never be said in the same sentence.... MSRP 3,060.73 !!!!!!
True but eTrailer has it for 1,000 to 1,300 cheaper than that.
I enjoy watching your videos, unfortunately I feel your impartial to Reese, If I got them free, I would also be pushing a sponsors product also
