are we allowed to drive acoss the bridge to get to the parking lot closer to the waterfalls? how is the road condition after the bridge. will you recommend renting a AWD or 4X4 with extra charge for a complete ring road trip? i am planning to go next summer. i hate the crowds too but i figure summer gives you more days with perfect weather condition.

We drove across the bridge all the way to the waterfall parking lot. The road is gravel and it was safe. This is in the summer though. Who knows what it’s like in any other conditions. We’ve only visited Iceland in the summer so we don’t have much to say in any other season. Hope it helps.
