    To a native Icelander like me, this advice seemed a bit over the top to me - until I realized that if I wanted to visit, say, the Mojave Desert in summer, I would be equally clueless about what to pack, how to prepare!
    In fact, this is very sound advice to people that are clueless about how hellish a "nice Icelandic summer day" can be!

      I’m visiting Reykjavik and nearby places in April ! Do i have to be prepared for a really cold weather? I don’t know what to expect
      I’m Mediterranean and we basically have summer 10 months a year 😂we have 30 degrees and bikini weather in January and we only get few weeks of “winter”

    • @Halli50
      @Halli50 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@esraamer9952, pack for the coldest and rainiest of your Mediterranean winter days. You can always shed clothing if you are weather-lucky, but you cannot put on the warm/waterproof clothing you left behind. This "Pack for Iceland" video is actually spot on for people like you.

    I brought flipflops as my "at home" shoe because I can't stand bare feet on the wooden floor. Leave your hiking shoes at the door and support your arches with some nice croc flips.

    You forgot to mention a bathing suit. It's a really great cultural experience to go to a public swimming pool in Iceland and many towns have pools. We went to Laugardalslaug in Reykjavik and loved the experience. My husband did his lap swimming and I did the hot tubs with locals. Very clean and well organized and multigenerational. It was nice to be off the beaten track from the regular tourist areas.

    Ok, I'm not a female, but for half of my week in Iceland back in June, I wore shorts, in the evening with a light fleece jacket. I would have worn shorts more, but only brought one pair. I brought a raincoat, and never took it out of my suitcase. The most waterproof things on your feet - are your feet. I hiked and did a lot of the tourist sites barefoot, beaches, hiking, and crossing streams and small rivers.
    Honestly, in the summer, it really isn't very cold.

    So glad this showed up in my feed! It is also a perfect packing list for a trip to Alaska in July and August, except... that Alaska can also be rather warm, so it can go either way. So the jeans and lighter shirts would work well. Alaska is home and we have a trip coming up that is going to combine fencing/dirty work with weather and going places, some nicer than others. So the spectrum is the issue, and I really like your packing list, it is going to help a ton! great video, like the vibe and the humor! (& haha, yes, getting on the plane to Alaska, folks are often kitted out in hiking gear or hoodies and sweats, very low key, so that made me smile a bit!) Have a good one, Lynne

    Icelandair has very small dimensions for personal item and carryon bag. Those backpacks are too wide. I paid for a checked bag as well due to that. My hiking boots I doubt I’d want to wear everywhere day and night. I need to bring another pair of shoes other than those small sneakers. I think I have to pack the daypack in my carry on to use there. It’s thicker than 5.6 inches thick/ deep I’m sure. The carry on size is 7.8 deep now.

    We just returned from a first week of June trip. Forget the leggings please. You can get away with water repellent hiking pants such the ones from Eddie Bauer. You can wear them several days in a row as you won’t be able to do laundry. If you go for a 6 days, three pairs should suffice. They pack small as well. Bring 4-5 non cotton, antimicrobial base layers and a two Patagonia or similar zip up thermal tops. Lightweight packable jacket (Columbia has the perfect one) Shoes: low and mid hikers and you’re good to go. Bring enough undies to have one for each day, hats and fleece gloves. Done.

    It would be nice if you gave us an idea of the temperatures you are talking about.
    If it's in the 50s, that is tanktop, shorts, and a hoodie weather.
    If it's 40s, I might wear pants if I'm not doing much walking.
    I go hiking (in the snow in Washington) in tanktops, and I get hot.
    I have never experienced temperatures where I could wear wool and walk at the same time. I imagine that is negative digits.
    I can't step outdoors if it's 70+. Not even in a tanktop and shorts.
    I was thinking of going to Iceland for the cold so I can be outside and finally get to wear sweaters.
    What temperature swings can we expect in summer in Iceland? I'm concerned it might be too hot.

      Its by Burton but I can't figure out what its called! I'm not really sure about Oct weather there but if I were just rocking a down jacket, I think I'd make sure I have a waterproof layer like a rain jacket over it to cut out getting wet/wind. Thanks for the kind words on the video :)

      Do you know that Patagonia is giving all of their profits to Earth-related causes and are not taking any money for themselves now?!?!? I bought the Patagonia Torrentshell rain jacket and it is great.

    • @nathaliefischer679
      @nathaliefischer679 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was in Iceland during August last year. As a Swiss, I‘m used to cold days, but I still brought long underwear (merino) with me. And I really needed them on rainy days. Layering is the key. I also had a down vest and a thin down jacket I could wear underneath my rain jacket or soft shell jacket. We were lucky to have 10 days without any rain.

    • @TrippedTravelGear
      @TrippedTravelGear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes absolutely! Merino layers are a great idea and anything Gortex will keep you dry!
