20 Best Hikes in Iceland 🇮🇸 Ring Road Hiking Trip

- Hiking in Iceland. This is our selection of the 20 best hiking trails in Iceland. We traveled there in late May, early June on a hike road trip along the famous Ring Road. These hiking trails best showcase the wild and naked nature of Iceland.
To make it into the list, the hikes had to match the following criteria: Be close to the Ring Road (so none of the trails in the Highlands or the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve of the Westfjords are included), be accessible with a normal car instead of a 4x4 SUV, be up to 10km in length, be among the top-rated trails in the Alltrails app. All of the trails are shown on our map at www.trailwalkers.co.
The video includes also some places that can be considered as hidden gems or secret spots - e.g. whale snorkeling at the Strytan Divecenter or the Gljufrafoss and Nauthusagil waterfalls. In this video you'll also find some travel tips and see where to park your car at the trailheads. Enjoy!

Thanks for video. Great production. We visited Iceland in 2021 and we're very impressed. Hvannagil canyon is my one of the top thre points in this journey. We hiked it above the canyon (16km loop from Basar campsite). But we also had a most huge failure. The last day, before the flight back we planned to visit eruption near Keflavik (that just walked up five days before and we were on the opposite side of island at this moment). But ... the weather was so bad, that rangers closed any option to visit this point. Tears 😭.
Hey, interestingly enough we had almost the same experience. The weather was so stormy that it was oficially warned not to do the hike. But we did it. The wind was the heaviest we have ever experienced. But you’ll have to visit the volcano again! ☺️
@@markusrosehill when we came to Iceland it was absolutely sleeping. We made a trail Laugavegur, received a car and started clockwise journey around the island. We were smth about after Acuary when the eruption began. Yes. You absolutely right, we have a reason to return. But this year I wold like to continue exploring Pyrenees. You video from Ordess park is absolutely amazing. Last summer we hikied from Cauterets to Torla via Gavarnie and Bresh Du Roland. Now I very want to continue. Really interesting to see the videos getting to the locations. I didn’t know you could walk up Kirkufell. I’ve done some but not all of those. Two really good walks that don’t require 4x4 are Laugerfell waterfall circle walk in the east and Aldeyjarfoss (south of Godafoss) which are both about 8km from where you park. And if you go to Laugerfell you pass the car park for Hengifoss - another amazing walk
Thanks for the additional trail ideas. Actually, they both were in our initial list but didn't make it into the Top 20 due to the detour that would be necessary. It's an out & back situation in both cases. But will have to do them next time. :)

I was starting to see a lot of videos that had the same general path around the ring road. Loved this for being different, and that whale watching snorkel tour seems like something I'd be interested in, but haven't seen anywhere else. Great video. I'll be going in August. Watching from Minnesota.

This brings back a lot of great memories especially a magical day up Glymur. The good thing is you missed a number of equally amazing places to go back to, the most amazing set of waterfalls at Dynjandi and Latrabjarg Cliffs in the Westfjords and East Iceland is many, many beautiful hikes including my favourite Storurd.
