Just came back from Iceland after a trip of 9 days.
(turn left at about 3 km before view point) They built a wide bridge (at 3:48) that you can drive across, then turn right on a very bumpy road for about 2km to a parking lot right before the foss. 4x4 is recommended, but not necessary during good day. From there, walking about 3km to the Canyon, or you can hike 5km to the Canyon.
BTW, there is nothing to see from the view point on west side, you HAVE TO go to the east side.

Good news on the road to the nearest car park being ok at a push for non-4WD vehicles. I’m there at the end of August. Just praying for decent driving conditions as I’m hoping to do the bumpy road to that car park in a 2wd small car 😅

So from the parking still another 3km hike? After wide bridge?

@@zickenx 2 km bumpy road after the bridge, and 3 km hike, but the hike is really really, no up and down.

Awesome information. This looks like a beautiful place. We are visiting in September 2022 and have took much scheduled this day to do more than just the viewing platform. That may change, with the new parking area.

thanks for showing the road between the 2 carparks. previous reports i read were "very bad road" etc. so it seems they fixed it a bit. i just worry that it is very narrow (enough rooms for 2 cars?) and also the second carpark looks very small compared to the first one.

Hi, on your post on " Update: the parking lot that is closer to the canyon is finished " Do you mean it s now closer to walk to the nice view on your video? how long is the walk now and whether driving to the closest parking really rough (lots of small stones?) Thanks!

    • @hermannhelguson

we went over in November, we could only make it about half way down the road, too icy.

Thank You! This is the one spot I want to include however It seams it is to far to drive from Vik and I am short on time--can I fly from Reykevik to a small airport near by?
