    Ppl get confused by it's looks. They think it's supposed to be some super fast, amazing handling machine. but it's not. it's a fun cruiser. I just cruise around back and forth to the shore. I love it

    I work at a Polaris dealership and have spent some time in a Slingshot. It is fun, but I dont feel any safer than on 2 wheels. It's quick but no quicker than a sporty car. The biggest problems seen on these have been related to electronics, infotainment, etcetera. I would recommend adding your own the stereo to a base model rather than spending the extra on the SL.

    • @danielk5243
      @danielk5243 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea . just bought a base today. They wanted an extra 6 grand for the sl and the only difference was the infotainment. I found one with good reviews for like 600 bucks

    From an owner since when they first came out in 2014, I really thought this review was spot on. Great job guys! The Slingshot is track capable, but not so much in the stock form. Add a turbo kit, better tires, and a good suspension and it is a totally different machine and surprises many people at track events. Wish I was closer, I'd love to loan you out mine to get a review on a customized one. That is where the fun is!

      The Slingshot is not a car, it's technically a motorcycle with none of the benefits of a bike and none of the safety features of a car and lacks the performance and handling of either. Most people I see in these things are not wearing helmets, proper pants, proper shoes, or any proper motorcycle safety gear even though they absolutely should be. For the price, if you're not going to wear any of the gear, you'd actually be far better off just buying a Miata and putting the top down.

    • @johnhand871
      @johnhand871 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've taken some bends pretty fast and have NEVER had the back wheel break loose on my Slingshot unless I was giving it some throttle to make it break loose. Matter of fact, I have never had the front wheels break loose on a bend either. The thing will corner if you can figure out how best to steer it.
      Tricky some bends because until you get used to the Slingshot, you might find yourself dropping a front wheel off the edge on the INSIDE of a bend. Yes, those front wheels are way out there, very wide for stability.

      9 June 2017. Put the date in guys when you type. Makes it easier to know when you said it.
      I would venture to say that the Slingshot will be a lot more popular with the southern crowd over people in the frozen north. It's easier to store a two wheeler during the winter than a 3 wheeler. Got a double garage? You can usually squeeze a two wheel bike in as well. But the Slingshot, like any trike, needs about as much room as a car, so people in the north want to keep their one or two cars in the garage and out of the weather.
      But down south, where no snow flies, the Slingshot is nice to have, and if you want, just leave it outside with one of the excellent quality covers Polaris makes.

    It's classified as a Auto cycle.No helmet needed in Texas. I work at a Polaris dealer, they call me Mr. skeptic at work. I laughed when we got the first one. They were in very limited supply. we all took turns driving it. Wow it was not what I expected. It was a blast to drive. The one we all test drove sold the same day. 8 months later now, we sell 2 to three a week. True it may be a fad. But i doubt it. Customers wrap them, add lights, upgrade sound system, custom paint jobs, add turbos, dress up engine custom seats, etc... we had a parade in our city (Corpus Christi) and the owners of these created a local club and drove in the parade with all their customized slingshots. as far as a track vehicle thats the farthest thing from a slingshot owner. Midlife crisis vehicle probably more accurate

      Polaris is a company that knows their stuff. They own Victory, Indian, plus they make all those off road vehicles.
      Now, about that Ecotech engine from GM. I have not heard, but I have figured it out on my own. GM dropped Pontiac (Solstice sports car) and they dropped Saturn (Sky sports car) and both those vehicles had that engine.

    I don't really understand the concept, and I really don't understand the idea of sourcing an Ecotec engine. I'd have sourced something a bit more high revving and reliable from Honda/Toyota.

    • @evanganske9240
      @evanganske9240 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GM's Ecotec engines have been shown to be extremely reliable. The 2.4L has a redline of 6,800rpm.

    • @stuntkitester
      @stuntkitester 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For aftermarket support the eco tech is a great motor to have sourced. The block is rated for over 450hp on stock internals. Loads of turbo and supercharging kits for cheap. These motors have a huge following in the off-road community for sand cars and buggies, which is why Polaris sourced it. The 2.4 also has a better torque curve over most Honda motors which helps the driving experience be sportier without having to rev it.

      It is fast, it is fast. He was spinning all through first, and at 5280 or more elevation, he was down 10 or more percent on power. I have beaten a lot of vehicles that are faster than 6.5. More like in the five second range. Oh, look at that review near the end, at 16.02 I believe. Freeze the frame on that black chart. Notice that the Slingshot was within a second of the time turned in by that Hot Dodge vehicle, and also very close to many other 'hot' cars.
      They did not mention how nice it is on hills. No need to shift down. Climbing a steep hill with switchbacks? Just bring it down from 5th to 4th. It will pull up just about anything, even in 4th.

    Interesting Polaris vehicle but seems limited in performance. If you want to have a better open race car feel TFL car should get an Ariel Atom to review. Also the Ariel Nomad looks crazy with some off road designed into the Arial family of cars.

    I've read a test in a German magazine and they hated it in every possible way. Tires seem to be horrible and the back wheel had the writing "not for road use" or something similar on it. There's no way I would prefer this to any lightweight 4-wheeler or the Morgan 3-wheeler. Not even the price would convince me so.

    So, what I'm seeing here is the Slingshot isn't a race car. Cool. I don't know that I'd want to race one. It would be nice to cruise down the beach in one of these, or maybe a run up P2P (which is what you should have done).

    I love motorcycles and I love cars. I don't think this would be a replacement for a motorcycle, but I do get the open air appeal. I don't get the Atom comparison either because of the price difference. My big question is why would someone buy one of these over a Mazda Miata?

    • @johnhand871
      @johnhand871 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just watched a video of an Atom on the Nurburgring. He was running it with a big group of cars that were all starting together, but passing everyone. He was dicing most of the time with a Corvette ZO7 or whatever, and they would catch traffic, one would pass, then the next batch of traffic, the other would pass. No doubt that Atom is hot on the high speed highway. I was impressed.

    Hey Roman, I'm glad you liked it. If you want to get one, you should research some of my videos. I have a Polaris Slingshot vlog and a bunch of aftermarket part install and reviews. BTW, it's much better with a set of JRI aftermarket shocks and tires. Also, don't buy into that horseshit about the tires being "made for the slingshot." They're just re-badged Kenda Kaisers and they suck. There's a fast growing Polaris Slingshot community. It's full of fantastic and very helpful people. I do hope you join us! :) Talk the Wife into it, you'll love it. I love the videos you guys produce by the way. I watch all of them. Fun stuff!!!

  • @MDKN22
    @MDKN22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok. I cannot figure out why Polaris put a GM engine in the slingshot. I'm sure if you took the 1.5L EcoBoost and tuned it slightly (up the horsepower a little) and stuck it in there, it would be more fun to drive and would get much better gas mileage. I hpe my fourwheeler isn't a Chevy engine. I'll trade it in if it is a GM engine.

    Forget comparisons to motorcycles. No motorcycle enthusiast would look at a Slingshot as anything other than a 3-wheeled car. The elephant in the room is the question: Miata vs. Slingshot; whether the Slingshot's sacrifices in usability are worth the incremental difference in "fun factor" that the Slingshot supplies. I would say NO, as most of the added "fun" seems to be via exhaust noise and squirrelly handling, both of which I can do without. I guess if you have the disposable cash for a fair-weather, limited-use giggle machine, it's okay, but the Slingshot is not very good as either a track toy or as a car, so limited-use means REALLY limited use. I'd rather have an Exocet: Miata parts (instead of crappy GM parts); better build quality (from what I've seen of both); AND it's a track day beast.
    Also, 6.97 sec. =/= "six-and-a-half seconds" Your math is whack.

    11:36 The kangaroo uses its tail as a 3rd leg and a rudder as it turns quickly. So the the narrative in this review was on point and maybe he forgot where he was going with the whole kangaroo comparison but it's truly correct.. you would never expect a kangaroo to whip around that quickly and make turns the way it does. and especially not come off the ground with both legs and still be in control of his gravitational positioning... just sayin. ha

  • @froglaps40

      Yes, by making it 3 wheeled there are dozens of restrictions they don't have to follow. Crash test, crumple zones, epa testing, airbags, ect. The second you add a 4th wheel your signing up for an additional 500+ pounds of "safety" equiptment as a requirement. That's why you can't get a production 4 wheel vehicle close to this weight class. And why most other ultra light 4 wheeled vehicles like the atom have to be sold as specialty kit cars so their exempt.
