This thing is the most amount of fun I've had behind a steering wheel. I own a Viper on the side and have owned many performance vehicles in my time. This is the most fun I've had on wheels, period. I've seen so many iffy reviews about this thing and they all miss the point and complain about stupid stuff. Complaining about the plastics or the fact that the wind is hitting their face. No, it's not an Ariel atom or a bac mono, it's much more accessible and you can actually explore its limits. Today, people are all about 0-60 or just looking at the numbers on paper, but not many talk about the joy of driving or just having fun behind the wheel. This thing is awesome. Change the brake pads, get a quality set of coilovers and you'll have the best time of your life.
I own this model of Slingshot. It is so much fun to drive, especially with the five speed manual transmission. It requires some skill to maximize the full potential of this beast. You can drive it up to 45 miles an hour in first gear without redlining the engine. Go careful on curves. The slingshot is like driving a go cart with the power of a sports car.

The Slingshot is a niche vehicle and I fit that niche so I love it. It's open air like a motorcycle but more stable with 3 wheels. Having survived a motorcycle accident, that's significant to me. I don't feel the need to go 0-60 in 2 seconds so the acceleration isn't an issue. If you ride a crotch rocket this probably isn't for you. I rode a cruiser cross-country several times (twice with a sidecar) and so this would work well for me, and the price is great. I think the concept is great and I hope it succeeds long-term. I'm going to get one as soon as I can.
Thomas Thibeault I think most are missing the point. It is Not a race vehicle. I have had, and still do, multiple types of bikes, Everything from Wings, R1, Harley's and multiple cruisers . This thing would fit my wife and my needs for weekend trips in the hill country well. The comfort level is far superior to even the Wings I've had. One of the best points of it is that she can drive it and enjoy it also. I have two Polaris 850 with clear titles and less the 15hrs that I may want to trade in on it.
I agree with you Tom! I don't really feel the need for Viper speed. I know the most I will probably do if and when I get one will be the CDI.
This is one of those cars we'll look back at 20 years from now and say ' remember that stupid ass polaris slingshot?'

The braking and steering would be my concern. Other than that, I love the looks. If they changed fix the steering and braking issues I'll surely buy one

I rented one in Gatlinburg, TN and drove it up through the Smoky Mtns. What a blast!! Couldn't really open it up though as the roads were too curvy.

It's the quickest 20,000 dollar new "car" on the market.
The only thing inept is the driver. Drives through a carwash but no 0-60 no top speed no challenging roads. A drivers ed student could have done better

I pick my sl up next week, I test drove it and I think it was a great deal for the fun you will get, I have a Honda goldwing that i love and will keep, it's a different ride.
I also Hurd 4.6 to 60, I heard more good reviews than bad, I wounder as other have how good of a driver the writer is.
So name calling just because it's different without taking it out yourself and greeting a real impression does no justice to a new fun machine. take what someone states but test drive yourself for the real feel. I love it

+Glenn Simms I want to test drive this and take it across my state to Sturgis rally . Lol. It might be more comfrontable to drive an auto cycle on the highway for 6 hours than cramping up every hour on my motorcycle. Plus more storage for my luggage.

I saw 2 of these things on the 2 hour drive from my last trip to Long Island. What a neat little contraption.
I was kinda wondering if the windshield bisected your vision. The black one comes with no windshield, the paint won't fade in the sun, it's 20lbs lighter, and $5,000 less. Have to admit though, the red paint does 'pop'.
I own one, and it's not really about speed. I really like it for cruising. I did get more comfortable seats put in though
He's pretty spot on with his review. Pretty much everything he said is true, especially the part about getting the most attention for the least amount of money.
I don't understand why he is so surprised about this? Campagna has been making the TRex for years, not to mention the Spyder.
NO comparison to the Spyder. Not even close. Slingshot is WAAAAY cooler than a Spyder.

You may HAVE to wear a helmet in the state on which this video was made, however, (at least here in FL, and many other states) you are NOT required to wear it, it is NOT mandatory, we ride ours without helmets and no problem with the law at all, but I do believe it is advisable and wise to wear one for your your own safety though!

I won't deny that it's a poor man's X-Bow, but for 20k base, it is about the best head turner for the price you can buy. Realistically speaking, however, is that down the line I'm sure there's going to be 4 wheel conversion kits, and there's already a turbo kit out there.
The car just came out last year, and if it goes like it's going, this is going to a be decently priced weekend vehicle that doesn't cost 100k+, and can still make people stare when you drive past them. While the reviews all seem to point to that the car still has come kinks that need working out, for 20k this is one of the most beautiful pieces of machinery that you can drive your girl around without worrying about laying over like a 2 wheeler.
igeekone $26K is *considerably* less than the cost of a new full size truck. I dont consider myself a "rich person" but $20-30K is well inside my toy budget.
Car and Driver has it at 0-60 in 4.6 and 130 top speed. So doesn't sound like this guy knows how to get the most out of a machine.
Can it be flash tuned for more HP?
It has a 10:1 power to weight ratio...and you feel the need...for more horsepower?

I almost bought one of these because I liked the open cockpit. After thinking hard on it and weighing the balance I went out and bought a like new 2012 Wrangler Rubicon instead. What a huge blessing that was! For about the same amount of money I would have spent on one of these Slingshots I got an incredible machine that can go just about anywhere and looks and drives awesome. As soon as I got it I removed the hardtop and doors and it is a blast to drive! In the winter time or in the rain it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reinstall everything and I'm good to go! There is NO comparison between the two. If you are contemplating buying a Slingshot, FORGET IT! Go buy a Jeep Wrangler, you can thank me later!

I don't know if this is allowed in Maine. Three wheeled vehicles (with the exception of farm equipment) that have a steering wheel are usually not permitted on Maine roads. Please pipe in if you know if the Slingshot is OK in Maine.

l love my 2017slr. I drive it daily above 40 degrees. have traveled in 23 states so far. with 30 mpg. riding the tail of the dragon is a blast. Bear Tooth Pass is next. I did upgrade the brakes he was suspension

Yup. Thought it would be a fast, precise car, but for 20-24K, you can buy an s2000 that does 0-60 in 5.6 seconds for less than 20K.

So...whats the advantage between this and a more conventional convertible like a Mazda Miata ? I mean it has its attractions, but that helmet requirement is a serious turnoff for whats basically a topless car.

One Question is the Polaris Slingshot have a V8 or V6? With what Liter?
The brakes not kicking in for a second on actuation is a trait from cheap motorcycles. If your brakes kick in immediately on a cheap two wheeled vehicle, you're riding your brakes while driving by accident. That dead spot is there on purpose.

I don't understand this thing... it's just a fun little open air roadster, but it offers no real performance and you have to wear a helmet in most states. You'd get a more open air feel from a Miata. Plus you have actual element protection when you want it and better performance.
Even I'd it doesn't need a helmet, you're gonna want one. Wind in the face all day!!!
And if your drink is less than half full in the cupholder, its flying out on the freeway. Learned that the hard way
