In Tank Fuel Pump Conversion and Installation on the 1973 Mustang Large Marge Project

    One more big task is done on the Mustang we've been calling Large Marge. I ordered a new stock replacement gas tank and all of the parts to convert it to run an internal fuel pump and return line system from Tanks Inc!
    In this video, I show how to take a standard stamped steel fuel tank (for the 71-73 Ford Mustang) and install the PA series In Tank Fuel Pump Module to upgrade this old muscle car's fuel system to support running Electronic Fuel Injection for much less money than you think.

    I like the longer videos best, but I have seen first hand how busy you are at your new job! Thanks for keeping us up to date with Project Large Marge. The short videos are great too cause they are short and you can get more small projects done.

    Nice to see these conversion being done in a very expert way. One thing that I do different with this type of installation is to use the old fuel pick up for the return line. I block off the return line on the in tank unit and use the old fuel supply line for the return line. One again nice job great that you were able to fit it into the hump area.

    I love your videos!! Well Done, you are no doubt a perfectionist...like me!...so I appreciate your skills. You know hard it is to find any informative info on 71-73 Mustangs on you tube? Rather difficult!, I have a 73 fastback with a 2bl 351 that is next in line for restoration after my 65 fastback BUT! I have already put a lot of time into the 73, so I got a 30% head start on that project. I'm, glad I came across these videos as your builds are giving me great ideas, especially this in tank fuel pump build, I am doing this to my 65 but realize from this video that in tank fuel pumps aren't only for Fuel injection but for carb systems as well! and such a great fit for the 71-73 era. I am so blessed this 73 of mine is straight and 100% rust free California car! Nothing beats changing these old jalopies into touring cars making them safe and fun to drive. I also have as posted on my channel a 07 gt500 clone. And now Im convinced to get a roadkill t-shirt!

    I have a different project: LS swap in a Jeep TJ. But, I appreciate the detail you add to your videos (and your work on Dirt Everyday). (Tell Fred to bring his show to Florida sometime.) One question: have you done a video of running the plumbing for the fuel lines back to the engine? I didn't see one. I need to do that for my project and I'm not sure how to accomplish that. Thanks.

    • @AutoEdits

      I can do something like that for ya. I ran flex hose from the tank to good spot on the rear chassis and then run hard lines to the fuel pressure regulator in the engine bay and flex hose to the throttle body.

    Hi I was wondering if you could let me know which one of the kits did you get. I went to their website but they have many to chose from. I have a 351 Cleveland and my 73 mach 1. I was thinking of getting the 190 litters per hr that’s rated for 430 hp. I eventually re build the engine and hope to have about 400 hp. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jason,
    Once again, great vid! I really enjoy following your videos as I have a '73 Mustang (Grandé) myself.
    Quick question, though. What are the major benefits of swapping over to an In-tank fuel pump over the stock pump?

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +GrandStang I prefer an electric fuel pump anytime I'm building a "sporty" car because of the tune-ability. You can dial in the pressure with a regulator and the beauty of an "in tank" pump is the fact that they tend to be very reliable and definitely much quieter. I needed to go electric for this application and this cool conversion is SO MUCH cheaper than buying a fuel cell.
      Thanks for checking out the video and taking a minute to leave a note! I like the video of your Mustang burnout!

    Why would anyone want to put a fuel pump in a tank? Sorry but that is just plain STUPID! That is one of the main reasons fuel injection is a pain in the ass is when the pump quits and you can't put one in without a car hoist. But maybe people are optimistic and they think they will coast right into a shop when the pump quits :)
