    This is exactly how my 97 cobra was for anyone wondering. I think it changed at 98. It was tricky getting the file pump back in, I actually had to look into the fill hole with a flashlight while putting it in

      Yes 98 was a new setup and is similar to the 99-04 returnless tank.

    Is this the tank that I want to use to change from an external electric fuel pump to an internal electric fuel pump on a carbureted engine? Was looking into Holley's system with the interchangeable regulator.

    Question....why did you install the new tank without the rubberized foam padding that was on top of the old tank. Seems like that padding is some kind of sound dampening to keep the tank from rattling against the chassis.

    Good idea to replace the sending unit and pump while your there?

      Depending on the age of those items yes. I replaced my pump a couple months ago when I did the seal so there was no reason to in my case.

    My stang would not start. Emptied gas tank , installed new spark plugs.replaced fuel pump and spark plugs . Now my 1989 5.0 v8 302 starts up . Problem now is... it will not keep running when i let off gas pedal . Its manual, gear is in neutral. Car shuts off. Any ideas?

    My Mustang is an 1987 but has a mechanical fuel pump , it's in the engine, does that make it any more difficult to remove?

  • @grgjms0101

    Are the fuel tanks, pump assy and sending unit the same for 86-97? I've read the sending unit is different regarding the sweep of the guages in the later models

    I must have the record for dropping Mustang tanks out there (mind you, i dont work at a dealer or a speed shop) last time i checked i think it was 42,friends, family and my own,something i can tell you if you have a older Mustang, DON'T USE ETHANOL or you will be giving me competition on tanks dropped,lol , also if you drop your tank and it has a good original sending unit ,HANG ON TO IT!! the sending units made right now are worthless!! i changed 3 in my personal Mustangs in one year, (bought all 3 from very reputable Mustangs shops) what happens is the float disintegrates and you will have no gauge whatsoever, gas destroys the plastic float because they are cheaply assembled and they use a tiny retainer to hold the float to the arm (Ford bent the arm around the float making it almost impossible for it to fall off, just figure some guys here might find all this useful!!

      Got to drop the tank on my 1990 GT which has been sitting for years, any advice? I never dropped one before and was debating on dropping it to see if I can save it like maybe the tank and pump will still work

  • @lewis8281
    @lewis8281 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just out of curiosity, what size fuel pump was that? I'm putting A 340LPH in my 94 and was wondering if I had to upgrade the wiring.

    • @cjponyparts
      @cjponyparts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like a Walbro 255 was in that tank. Upgrading the wiring wont hurt but it is not necessary.

      A Andrew ! ts pretty simple. The pump its mounted on the driver side on the block. Has two bolts and just disconnects the gas lines. Im usually gonna change out my pump on my 84 fox this weeked.

    Doing this currently as we speak, for the life of me i cannot get the new straps even remotely close enough to put the bolts in, tried bending them as close as i could to the originals, still nothing. Ready to call it quits, any advice?

    • @cjponyparts
      @cjponyparts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be tricky to get them in place, make sure the wiring harness/fuel lines are not binding causing that issue.

  • @starbattles1

    I just watched a video on 1993-2004 in tank fuel pump. Totally different tank and pump. Sending unit and pump are all in one.
    So do you see the problem? Your video includes 1997 and so does his. I have a 1997 cobra. I'll find out my self when I take the tank down which video has the wrong dates.

    Great video! Any thoughts on the fuel tank pads on the original tank? I noticed that you did not put any on the new tank. I'm installing my tank right now and can't seem to find any info as if they are necessary or not. The old ones will not come off without tearing. 1997 mustang GT. Thanks!

    I don’t recommend drilling a new hole for that filler neck support your fuel tank will leak. Notice he didn’t drill a new one for his.

      If the car has been taken care of and in good shape bolts won't be an issue. Even the exhaust flange bolts to the manifold came loose with out issue on my 1997 stang. Those usually snap off.
