- Quick Change Gearbox build for the lathe part 2.
I'm calling this part the multiplier assembly. It allows gear ratios from 1:64 to 64:1 in multiples of 2 (1:1, 1:2, 1:4... etc)
We have meshing gears!
I have a patreon account if you wish to help support the channel. Through this you can get early access and more

By popular request, at some point in the next year I will try to put together a 'proper' narrated version of this build
That was actually extremely entertaining to watch!
The audience is quite divided over it lol
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching
I like the little dig at Click Spring at the end. :) Thanks for the video.
AKA Nathan lol I missed that. Had to rewind, very subtle
You are simply brilliant!
Maybe a little insane to undertake this project 🤣
Nice build
Pretty cool!
Cheers, it was exciting when I got the gears to mesh
Little things...

I'm dying of curiosity, where is the third part? You are doing an excellent job. Congrats!
Cheers mate!
Hoping by the end of this month to have another upload with a couple of follow ups soon after
CONGRATULATIONS, perfect job with perfect result,, what size module dimension you used to cut the gears ??
Thank you
I matched the gears on my hercus lathe. They were 14.5° and I think 18 DP from memory
@@TomMakeHere 14.5° and 18 DP in metric ?
What magick skills u were using in this video on those metals?
Channeling my 'This Old Tony' :)
hello Tommy do you have any diagrams of the gearbox available love your videos
Looks like you already emailed so I'll head over there 😀
I'd like diagrams as well :)
Hello there. Is it possible to obtain high torque with this mechanism?
Yes, as the speed is reduced the torque increases too
Hey man can u make 1:8.3 -8.3:1 for ampflow motors
That is a very specific ratio. I have a gear ratio calculator if you are interested, send me an email at tommygmachining @gmail.com and I can send it to you. I will say that with straight spur gears, the gear train is quite large, I work out a triple compound gear is required to accurately get the ratio: 18/12 * 83/12 * 12/15 = 8.3
@@TomMakeHere can you send me the right email ....its telling the address can't be recognized
I don’t know if it would bother to ask but what tools did you use?
Lathe and a milling machine mainly. Angle grinder for the rough cutting work, and a tig welder to weld parts together
gears in gears box are permanently or temporary joining ?
The gears here are are permanently meshed, but others within the gearbox are selected and temporarily mesh

Respected Sir can we purchase it?
Sorry, I no longer own it
I thought this was TOT for a few minutes
Love or hate it, yes ToT was my inspiration until I found my own style
@@TomMakeHere love it , keep the good work mate
