I’m fairly certain all anyone remembers about the Malevolence was the constant anti droid actions undertaken by Grievous and the so called “Protagonists”. Oh and the minor detail about Grievous attacking wounded meatbag slaves with a slave army.
It's weird to me that after seeing how incredibly effective the Malevolence was when crewed by mere droids, that they didn't at least make 2 or 3 more ships of the same class. They had time to make adjustments in the design to combat the flaws of the original. They would have utterly obliterated the Republic with a handful of these ships. Imagine one of these commanded by admiral Trench.

It was inspired by the Bismarck and the reason the CIS only used one is the same. The moment that the enemy becomes aware that another of its class has been launched, they send massive fleets to hunt it down. Building more is sinking an immense amount of resources into a ship that will only survive a few weeks of active service if its lucky and is only really useful as a Fleet in Being.
I've always loved the Malevolence, but I didn't know it was _that_ big! Three whole Imperial Star Destroyers long lmao. The Executor is a classic, and the Eclipse is pretty cool, but the Subjugator -class is probably my second favorite dreadnought now
Being the history nerd I am, it's easy to see the inspiration of the Malevolence saga being taken from a real event, namely Operation Rheinubrung, the sole mission of the German battleship Bismarck in 1941. Both were superweapons for their time (though Bismarck was quickly outclassed by the Japanese Yamato class and US Navy Iowa class battleships), both scored surprise victories that damaged morale short term, but fueled a drive for revenge, both were rendered impotent due to battle damage to a weak spot (Bismarck being when a torpedo from a Swordfish biplane disabled her rudder), and was quickly destroyed. I can even draw comparisons between their sister ships, since both did sweet nothing after their sisters were destroyed.

Even noticed a further similarity between Malevolence and Bismarck. Malevolence's weapons were known for knocking out her own communications equipment as stated in the episode. And for Bismarck, before the battle with HMS Hood and Prince of Wales, she fired at two tailing British cruisers, HMS Suffolk and HMS Norfolk, and her first salvo disabled her own fire control radar equipment.
Sounds a lot like Bismarck and Tirpitz. In fact, that is probably where the whole story arc of the Malevolence is derived. The HMS Hood was lost with all but three of her crew. There were three survivors on Plo Koon’s flagship. The Y-Wings tried a direct assault but ended up essentially jamming her rudder. A design flaw prevented her from running away. The fleet catches up to her and starts pummeling her with everything they have. It’s really cool how the writers sneak in stuff like this that is heavily inspired by historical events. Great video, as always. Would love to hear about the Malevolence’s sister ship, Tirp-Devastation.
Well George Lukas in an interview confirmed that the Malevolence was inspired by the KMS Bismarck Plo ship was referencing the HMS Hood, the Y wings are the Swordfish
Shame that Anakin Skywalker sent The Malevolence crashing into the planet than capture it. Because even if they won't use the ship, they can just simply dismantle it and use all of the abundant source of metal and spare parts for lots of Republic ships, vehicles and weapons, etc.
Capturing one such vessel & then transporting it WHILE the battle was still raging on would take resources that they don't have at hand. There's a reason why even the most resource-strapped factions would still resort to destroying enemy hardware instead of capturing them, regardless of said hardware's size & usefulness after all.

the malevolence is similar to the Bismarck. a massive, powerful dreadnought of a ship that earned a feared reputation, but an important rule of any navy is to always support your big ships.
Since there were two _Subjugator_-Class Dreadnoughts built, and _Devastation_ was kept in reserve while _Malevolence_ went out to strike fear in the Republic, it is safe to assume that _Devastation_ is still lying in its underground drydock by the time of the Empire, meaning that it is also possible that the Rebellion, if made aware of it, could locate and restart the _Devastation_ and use it to a frightening advantage over the Imperial Navy. Makes you wonder if a _Subjugator_ could conceivably do some major damage to the Death Star if the ion cannon was fired at the right place at the right time
The rebels didn't have the numbers to spare, to crew a Dreadnought-class ship (especially pre-battle of Yavin). They didn't like putting to many eggs in one basket. On top of that the Empire was basically designed to combat big threats hence why the Rebellion preferred using small strike teams and hit-and-run tactics.
The Devastation wouldn't need her port and starboard Ion Cannons. Just her bow Ion Beam Cannon. The Death Star is around the size of a small moon, which is exactly the sort of target the Devastation eats for breakfast.
If the Separatists decided to launch the Subjugator-class heavy cruisers during the Outer Rim Sieges and the Battle of Coruscant, will this help turn the tide in the Separatists' favor? And yes, this warship is certainly the coolest warship in the Clones Wars series!
I can’t say for certain on the Outer Rim Sieges, but for the Battle of Coruscant it likely would depend on whether the flaws of the design were fixed in future models. If they were as easily crippled as the Malevolence, then they’d just become massive walls that get in the way of Republic offenses and Separatist maneuvers. If at peak performance however, they immediately fulfill the role of a standard Imperial Star Destroyer and an Interdictor Star Destroyer at the BOC. Ion cannons would decimate any arriving reinforcements, and the sheer fire power would ensure already present forces would not last long. The capture of the Chancellor and subsequent escape would be easy. If somehow the Republic manages to lock them down in the system, multiple Subjugator-class dreadnoughts, two at a minimum I’d assume, would create a massive advantage for the Separatists. Their communications would be greatly bolstered, their raw power would be near doubled, and the Republic would be focused heavily on the massive ships, creating openings and flaws in their strategies. Overall, even just one of the Subjugator-class at the BOC swings the flow of battle heavily toward the Separatist’s side, simply due to the ability to outclass and incapacitate any one capital ship the Republic could bring to the fight.
I don't know why they didn't make more of these. The reason it got destroyed was not because of anything wrong with the design but because the Republic sent the FREAKING Y WING after it. I guess at that time the Y wing was also brand new so the CIS didn't expect to see such a potent starfighter.
@@ThoralmirBut its a very cost efficient ship, since it took out entire fleets. It should have been guarded by smaller cruisers tho, mainly from Starfighters. Only real reason it was destroyed is because plot. Anakin always saves the day.
It was expensive, took a long time to build, and once the Republic realised what was wiping out entire task-forces they dropped everything to hunt it down and kill it. It may have had the tonnage to be a huge asset and even had its temperamental weaknesses worked out in later iterations, but the fact that it would be targeted & maybe mission-killed after its first appearance on any field makes it prohibitive. The CIS always found numerical superiority & 'recruit-train-deploy' speed to be their strongest assets against the GAR. The Subjugator-class warship could easily be replaced by less-flawed designs, save for the experimental super-ion cannon.
Really cool ship, innovative design and a superweapon that I think is much better than a Death Star laser. By disabling the opponent's ship, not destroying, you open up the option for effective boarding and taking prisoners. After boarding and when the ship recovers, it's databank could be downloaded, or heck you could take the whole ship with you. The pinnacle of this tech in my opinion would be getting it to work past a planet's atmosphere. Whole sections, if not all, of a world rendered defenceless to your invasion, communication and transportation knocked offline and the planet, plus most of it's infrastructure, is still intact for the invaders to use.
Interesting I never knew that The Malevolence had a sisters vessel I thought it was just a single powerful experimental vessel thanks for this informative video one of My favorite arcs from the clone wars.
It actually had more than sister vessel. There were at least 3 other vessels of this type, Malevolence II (destroyed , probably in drydock), Subjugator itself (made with special bio weapon launcher instead ion cannons) and unnamed vessel which was built over Enoth, which final fate is unnkown. Devastation was hijacked by Nightsisters and later destroyed by Jedi strike force.
Imagine when the ion cannons were reloading such a hollow ship like Malevolence made for a quite fragile ship seeing as if anything dangerous got close enough they could shoot it effectively to peices just aiming hard hitting anti ship munitions on a few key spots.. imagine it's support fleet must've been considerable. To keep it safe.

Dooku has such a unique vessel, as we know, but I’m interested to know more about it, since it’s been described as being rare by Hondo Monaka, a pirate.
I never really liked that they were called Heavy Cruisers since clearly they aren't. However the one time I was thinking about it and I realized that it was genius because if you were building a super ship and wanted it to remain a secret, what would you classify it as? A giant scary Dreadnought that would attract the attention of spies? Or a plain old heavy cruiser? Also I wonder if the Malevolence had survived if Greivous had been much more aggressive after the ion cannons were destroyed launched a head on attack against the Venators after they showed up? Like I'm guessing that she still had way more guns on her then all of those Star Destroyers combined. But then again that could've been risky, hence him trying to flee, but either way, it's an interesting thought.
So Malevolence vs Super Star destroyer. Who would win? Seems like the Ion cannon would give Malevolence the edge but the SSD's probably have heavier fire power in general.
That the Malevolence, it's reputation and how it was destroyed was based on the KMS Bismarck is a nice touch and I know any nerds in the audience would appreciate it. It's just a shame the Republic didn't have a super special ship of their own from episode 2 they could have used to recreate the sinking of the Hood. They didn't need it for this story arc obviously, but it would have been a twee little tribute to the lives lost that day. 😔

The Devastation was destroyed in Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance, likely before the Malevolence was destroyed. The Devastation was arguably much more powerful than the Malevolence as it was intended to use its weapon to obliterate Dathomir and Coruscant, however it was destroyed just before the weapon could fire.
This always makes me think of; what if these plans succeeded? If even one did, palpatines plan would be in upheaval.. Unless he had an order 69 to destroy the droids

Also, did Sideous have a plan for the Mmalevolence after the war, since he seemed pretty keen on keeping it around a little longer since he sent Padme and C-3PO into that trap so Grevious could capture them and use them as living shields to prevent the Republic from destroying the Malevolence?
The Malevolence is such a awesome looking ship. Wait a second...I just realized something about this awesome ship. The Malevolence is like the battleship Bismark! 1: she is the flagship of the separatist navy. 2: she is 1 of 2 of her class. 3 it was the terror of the stars, Making the republic determened to hunt her down. 4 it had massive firepower.
It would have been very smart to reverse Engineering the Ion Cannon than what the Republic did to the Subjugators. Such a weapon would fit well in the Tarkin Doctrine and would prove effective, more than that of the ISD.
Malevolence was my favorite cruiser in Clone Wars; it's a shame that it was destroyed after just three episodes. But I'm still interested in one thing: What's the source when it comes to Malevolence's sister ships, like Devastation? On Wookieepedia, there is even a mention about a third Subjugator, destroyed while its building was in progress... Are these from some comic, or a book?
With the sheer number of ships at the CIS's disposal, why didn't the Malevolence have an escort? It's not like costs or limited numbers were a concern. Especially with it being experimental, the whole, "It just wasn't needed" really doesn't work. They had no idea if there would be a malfunction or not. Doubly important after it was revealed to the galaxy exactly what it was and how it worked. I guess it has to of been one of those, "They didn't do it because they didn't want to win" answers again...

Such an awesome ship. I love how menacing and intimidating it always was. The fact that they had to infiltrate it and then crash it into a moon to finally destroy it is insane.
Still didn't do much squat in the bitter end. What about the Acclamator? Powerhorse of the Republic, and even lasted towards the Imperial era (though at limited amounts in Legends).
Despite being destroyed in the span of a few episodes, the Malevolence was definitely an interesting dreadnaught. It's also eerily similar to the real world dreadnaught The Bismarck, in the sense that, despite having a fierce reputation, it was cut down in it's prime.
I really wish for once they would build a real Warhammer40K sized space hulk.. they have ships that do not make planet fall so why not build such a big one too

Whaaaat a military fielding an untested and unsure prototype as the center focus of their strategy and then discovering the lists of problems that developed from said experimental technology being experimental and untested? That would never happen… (I would sarcastically give examples here but they’re just so numerous you can pick one, My personal favorite is the Mk 14 torpedo)

Vacuum is not an ideal place for machinery to operate, especially if it's not built for it. Liquid lubricant boils, joints cold-weld together, and waste heat is much more difficult to dissipate.

Not sure if its cheaper to make a B1-offshoot for space or make ships useable by organics for the sake of droids only designed for such conditions, but surely they had to do something to have droids deployed to ice-worlds... ideas? Maybe the batteries ran down faster keeping droids warm, manageable on-world with pre-fab structures but not for long-haul in space?
I feel like the Subjugator was never fully utilized during the war. Perhaps if the ship had an escort fleet with it or at the least separate power plants on board the Subjugator to provide backup power for the weapons and shields.

Plot... but a large force would make travel more complex in the logistics, and would be harder to keep secret. Grievous was not the best the CIS had to offer, but he was chosen for political reasons as much as his competence. Palpatine couldn't have either side win too soon, you know.

Half the point of Dooku personally commanding the ship for a time was to prevent incompetance alerting the GAR to the presence & nature of the ship & its main weapon. Once he had established a working doctrine for its usage Grievous should have been able to continue the game until GAR put effort into blanket detection or more avid scouting. Escort ships commanded by droids would not operate that delecately.
When Alderaan was destroyed in A New Hope, why didn't that event create a wound in The Force on the scale of, say, Malachor V in 3960 BBY? After all, both catastrophes had millions of people involved, so why didn't another Darth Nihlius-like situation happen during The Galactic Civil War period? Or, what about Humbarine in Operation: Durge's Lance of The Clone Wars? I think 500 billion people lost their lives in that event (if I remember correctly), so, again, WHY DIDN'T DARTH NIHLIUS RETURN?!? It doesn't make a lot of sense, unless more people died over Malachor V, than everyone on those 2 aforementioned planets did. Wouldn't that make Revan, or Meetra Surik a bigger war criminal than even General Grevious was, just because of Malachor V?
Maybe because, though Alderaan certainly was devastating, it wasn't lingering. Yes, millions died, but it was quick and (relatively) painless; one second you're alive, the next you're vaporized. At Malachor, you were painfully crushed under a supercharged gravity well; much more painful, imho. In addition, Malachor's wound was anchored to the planet itself, as it still existed after the battle, and the wound was only closed when the planet was destroyed at the end of KotOR 2. Alderaan was destroyed instantly, so that wound was closed before it could fully manifest. That, and wounds in the Force weren't really a thing back then, universe-development-wise. Can't really explain Humbarine tho; guess the writers just focused on other things there.
@@jakemerchant950 Okay, I see what you're saying, but the whole Wound-in-The-Force-Narrative was very central to KOTOR 2's plot, and there are other examples of such events in Legends that could've created wounds in The Force that I forgot to mention (Sernpidal in New Jedi Order, and Order 66, for example). In relation to those two extra examples, if I'm reading your logic correctly, Sernpidal (the planet) was still around after the moon collided with it (all life on the planet, including Chewbacca were killed instantly, but the planet itself still existed), so that could show an event where the suffering of near-death experiences for everyone on the planet (including Chewbacca) lingered on, like Malachor V until the end of KOTOR 2, because the planet that all that happened on still floated through space, and their deaths could still echo through The Force as long as the planet wasn't completely dusted, like Alderaan, or Post-KOTOR 2 Malachor V. In relation to Order 66, when all those Jedi died at once, Grandmaster Yoda felt every one of those deaths (at least, all the ones that were trained by him directly, so all those Master-Apprentice bonds were being severed, all at once), and he suffered as all those Jedi suffered in that moment (it nearly knocked him out cold from all those Jedi deaths happening at such a speed). It reminded me a little of Katarr, from KOTOR 2, except it wasn't a whole planet being consumed by a physical embodiment of a wound in The Force (Darth Nihlius), but a lot of Jedi were still killed instantly, and Yoda felt every one of them. I'm surprised Yoda didn't end up with the same fate as the man that became Darth Nihlius later on (whoever he was), just from all those deaths happening, or outright severing his connection to The Force (like Meetra Surik did), just so he could stay alive! Anyway, my point is that, if we're going with your logic that Wounds in The Force need a place to linger, like a still intact Malachor V, or even Sernpidal, or Humbarine, why didn't we see Darth Nihlius return in some form from the result of those catastrophes, like he did with Malachor V? Is KOTOR 2 just an outlier in Legends-canon in regards to the whole "Wound in The Force" thing, were all those catastrophes (including all those deaths of Jedi from Order 66) just dwarfed by the sheer amount of loss of life at Malachor V (like, more people died over Malachor V than everyone on Humbarine, or Alderaan put together, meaning far more than 500 BILLION PEOPLE WERE SLAUGHTERED IN ONE EVENT!), or, am I still missing something? And about the whole "Malachor V deaths were slower, and far more painful" argument, what about all those Base Delta Zero styled bombardments that The Empire did that could rival that much pain, and suffering, as worlds were not dusted, but were set on fire, anyway, and everyone still died, perhaps more painfully so? And, one more thing, do you think that Revan, and/or Meetra Surik are bigger war criminals than General Grevious, just for that one battle alone?
@@jakemerchant950 And, on another subject that could be related to this, what if Abeloth was that new incarnation of Darth Nihlius, after The Yuuzhan Vong War, and The Second Galactic Civil War, since both wars caused such atrocities like Malachor V, but on a galactic scale? I personally don't buy the argument that Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side was what released Abeloth from The Maw, as other people of great force power fell to the dark side too, and far more atrocious things have happened between The Clone Wars (where The Ones died), and Abeloth escaping The Maw. I believe The Yuuzhan Vong War was FAR bigger a shift in The Force than one man's fall to the dark side (however powerful he was), as so many people lost their lives in 4 years, and other wars too. Why would Jacen's fall be what truly allowed Abeloth to escape, when FAR worse things were going on at the same time?

There's a reason why even the most resource-strapped factions would still resort to destroying enemy hardware instead of capturing them, regardless of said hardware's size & usefulness after all.

Since there were two _Subjugator_-Class Dreadnoughts built, and _Devastation_ was kept in reserve while _Malevolence_ went out to strike fear in the Republic, it is safe to assume that _Devastation_ is still lying in its underground drydock by the time of the Empire, meaning that it is also possible that the Rebellion, if made aware of it, could locate and restart the _Devastation_ and use it to a frightening advantage over the Imperial Navy. Makes you wonder if a _Subjugator_ could conceivably do some major damage to the Death Star if the ion cannon was fired at the right place at the right time
The rebels didn't have the numbers to spare, to crew a Dreadnought-class ship (especially pre-battle of Yavin). They didn't like putting to many eggs in one basket. On top of that the Empire was basically designed to combat big threats hence why the Rebellion preferred using small strike teams and hit-and-run tactics.
The Devastation was destroyed in Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance in the first few months of the war.

The Devastation wouldn't need her port and starboard Ion Cannons. Just her bow Ion Beam Cannon. The Death Star is around the size of a small moon, which is exactly the sort of target the Devastation eats for breakfast.
If the Separatists decided to launch the Subjugator-class heavy cruisers during the Outer Rim Sieges and the Battle of Coruscant, will this help turn the tide in the Separatists' favor?

I can’t say for certain on the Outer Rim Sieges, but for the Battle of Coruscant it likely would depend on whether the flaws of the design were fixed in future models. If they were as easily crippled as the Malevolence, then they’d just become massive walls that get in the way of Republic offenses and Separatist maneuvers. If at peak performance however, they immediately fulfill the role of a standard Imperial Star Destroyer and an Interdictor Star Destroyer at the BOC. Ion cannons would decimate any arriving reinforcements, and the sheer fire power would ensure already present forces would not last long. The capture of the Chancellor and subsequent escape would be easy. If somehow the Republic manages to lock them down in the system, multiple Subjugator-class dreadnoughts, two at a minimum I’d assume, would create a massive advantage for the Separatists. Their communications would be greatly bolstered, their raw power would be near doubled, and the Republic would be focused heavily on the massive ships, creating openings and flaws in their strategies. Overall, even just one of the Subjugator-class at the BOC swings the flow of battle heavily toward the Separatist’s side, simply due to the ability to outclass and incapacitate any one capital ship the Republic could bring to the fight.

I don't know why they didn't make more of these. The reason it got destroyed was not because of anything wrong with the design but because the Republic sent the FREAKING Y WING after it. I guess at that time the Y wing was also brand new so the CIS didn't expect to see such a potent starfighter.

@@ThoralmirBut its a very cost efficient ship, since it took out entire fleets. It should have been guarded by smaller cruisers tho, mainly from Starfighters. Only real reason it was destroyed is because plot. Anakin always saves the day.
It was expensive, took a long time to build, and once the Republic realised what was wiping out entire task-forces they dropped everything to hunt it down and kill it. It may have had the tonnage to be a huge asset and even had its temperamental weaknesses worked out in later iterations, but the fact that it would be targeted & maybe mission-killed after its first appearance on any field makes it prohibitive. The CIS always found numerical superiority & 'recruit-train-deploy' speed to be their strongest assets against the GAR. The Subjugator-class warship could easily be replaced by less-flawed designs, save for the experimental super-ion cannon.

Really cool ship, innovative design and a superweapon that I think is much better than a Death Star laser.
By disabling the opponent's ship, not destroying, you open up the option for effective boarding and taking prisoners. After boarding and when the ship recovers, it's databank could be downloaded, or heck you could take the whole ship with you.
The pinnacle of this tech in my opinion would be getting it to work past a planet's atmosphere. Whole sections, if not all, of a world rendered defenceless to your invasion, communication and transportation knocked offline and the planet, plus most of it's infrastructure, is still intact for the invaders to use.
The Malevolence certainly left its mark, brief as it was. That's one of the reasons I love it though.

Interesting I never knew that The Malevolence had a sisters vessel I thought it was just a single powerful experimental vessel thanks for this informative video one of My favorite arcs from the clone wars.
The Rule of Two
It actually had more than sister vessel. There were at least 3 other vessels of this type, Malevolence II (destroyed , probably in drydock), Subjugator itself (made with special bio weapon launcher instead ion cannons) and unnamed vessel which was built over Enoth, which final fate is unnkown. Devastation was hijacked by Nightsisters and later destroyed by Jedi strike force.

I never really liked that they were called Heavy Cruisers since clearly they aren't. However the one time I was thinking about it and I realized that it was genius because if you were building a super ship and wanted it to remain a secret, what would you classify it as? A giant scary Dreadnought that would attract the attention of spies? Or a plain old heavy cruiser?
Also I wonder if the Malevolence had survived if Greivous had been much more aggressive after the ion cannons were destroyed launched a head on attack against the Venators after they showed up? Like I'm guessing that she still had way more guns on her then all of those Star Destroyers combined. But then again that could've been risky, hence him trying to flee, but either way, it's an interesting thought.

That the Malevolence, it's reputation and how it was destroyed was based on the KMS Bismarck is a nice touch and I know any nerds in the audience would appreciate it. It's just a shame the Republic didn't have a super special ship of their own from episode 2 they could have used to recreate the sinking of the Hood. They didn't need it for this story arc obviously, but it would have been a twee little tribute to the lives lost that day. 😔

The Devastation was destroyed in Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance, likely before the Malevolence was destroyed. The Devastation was arguably much more powerful than the Malevolence as it was intended to use its weapon to obliterate Dathomir and Coruscant, however it was destroyed just before the weapon could fire.

The Malevolence is like the battleship Bismark! 1: she is the flagship of the separatist navy. 2: she is 1 of 2 of her class. 3 it was the terror of the stars, Making the republic determened to hunt her down. 4 it had massive firepower.
She also resembles Disney's depiction of the submarie Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

It would have been very smart to reverse Engineering the Ion Cannon than what the Republic did to the Subjugators. Such a weapon would fit well in the Tarkin Doctrine and would prove effective, more than that of the ISD.
Malevolence was my favorite cruiser in Clone Wars; it's a shame that it was destroyed after just three episodes. But I'm still interested in one thing: What's the source when it comes to Malevolence's sister ships, like Devastation? On Wookieepedia, there is even a mention about a third Subjugator, destroyed while its building was in progress... Are these from some comic, or a book?

With the sheer number of ships at the CIS's disposal, why didn't the Malevolence have an escort? It's not like costs or limited numbers were a concern. Especially with it being experimental, the whole, "It just wasn't needed" really doesn't work. They had no idea if there would be a malfunction or not. Doubly important after it was revealed to the galaxy exactly what it was and how it worked. I guess it has to of been one of those, "They didn't do it because they didn't want to win" answers again...

Such an awesome ship. I love how menacing and intimidating it always was. The fact that they had to infiltrate it and then crash it into a moon to finally destroy it is insane.
Still didn't do much squat in the bitter end.
What about the Acclamator? Powerhorse of the Republic, and even lasted towards the Imperial era (though at limited amounts in Legends).
Despite being destroyed in the span of a few episodes, the Malevolence was definitely an interesting dreadnaught.
It's also eerily similar to the real world dreadnaught The Bismarck, in the sense that, despite having a fierce reputation, it was cut down in it's prime.

I really wish for once they would build a real Warhammer40K sized space hulk.. they have ships that do not make planet fall so why not build such a big one too

Vacuum is not an ideal place for machinery to operate, especially if it's not built for it. Liquid lubricant boils, joints cold-weld together, and waste heat is much more difficult to dissipate.

Not sure if its cheaper to make a B1-offshoot for space or make ships useable by organics for the sake of droids only designed for such conditions, but surely they had to do something to have droids deployed to ice-worlds... ideas? Maybe the batteries ran down faster keeping droids warm, manageable on-world with pre-fab structures but not for long-haul in space?

Palpatine wouldn't allow anything goo efficient. The CIS would have steamrolled the Republic if they weren't held back.
Plot... but a large force would make travel more complex in the logistics, and would be harder to keep secret. Grievous was not the best the CIS had to offer, but he was chosen for political reasons as much as his competence. Palpatine couldn't have either side win too soon, you know.

Half the point of Dooku personally commanding the ship for a time was to prevent incompetance alerting the GAR to the presence & nature of the ship & its main weapon. Once he had established a working doctrine for its usage Grievous should have been able to continue the game until GAR put effort into blanket detection or more avid scouting. Escort ships commanded by droids would not operate that delecately.

When Alderaan was destroyed in A New Hope, why didn't that event create a wound in The Force on the scale of, say, Malachor V in 3960 BBY? After all, both catastrophes had millions of people involved, so why didn't another Darth Nihlius-like situation happen during The Galactic Civil War period? Or, what about Humbarine in Operation: Durge's Lance of The Clone Wars? I think 500 billion people lost their lives in that event (if I remember correctly), so, again, WHY DIDN'T DARTH NIHLIUS RETURN?!? It doesn't make a lot of sense, unless more people died over Malachor V, than everyone on those 2 aforementioned planets did. Wouldn't that make Revan, or Meetra Surik a bigger war criminal than even General Grevious was, just because of Malachor V?
Maybe because, though Alderaan certainly was devastating, it wasn't lingering. Yes, millions died, but it was quick and (relatively) painless; one second you're alive, the next you're vaporized. At Malachor, you were painfully crushed under a supercharged gravity well; much more painful, imho. In addition, Malachor's wound was anchored to the planet itself, as it still existed after the battle, and the wound was only closed when the planet was destroyed at the end of KotOR 2. Alderaan was destroyed instantly, so that wound was closed before it could fully manifest. That, and wounds in the Force weren't really a thing back then, universe-development-wise.
Can't really explain Humbarine tho; guess the writers just focused on other things there.
@@jakemerchant950 Okay, I see what you're saying, but the whole Wound-in-The-Force-Narrative was very central to KOTOR 2's plot, and there are other examples of such events in Legends that could've created wounds in The Force that I forgot to mention (Sernpidal in New Jedi Order, and Order 66, for example). In relation to those two extra examples, if I'm reading your logic correctly, Sernpidal (the planet) was still around after the moon collided with it (all life on the planet, including Chewbacca were killed instantly, but the planet itself still existed), so that could show an event where the suffering of near-death experiences for everyone on the planet (including Chewbacca) lingered on, like Malachor V until the end of KOTOR 2, because the planet that all that happened on still floated through space, and their deaths could still echo through The Force as long as the planet wasn't completely dusted, like Alderaan, or Post-KOTOR 2 Malachor V.
In relation to Order 66, when all those Jedi died at once, Grandmaster Yoda felt every one of those deaths (at least, all the ones that were trained by him directly, so all those Master-Apprentice bonds were being severed, all at once), and he suffered as all those Jedi suffered in that moment (it nearly knocked him out cold from all those Jedi deaths happening at such a speed). It reminded me a little of Katarr, from KOTOR 2, except it wasn't a whole planet being consumed by a physical embodiment of a wound in The Force (Darth Nihlius), but a lot of Jedi were still killed instantly, and Yoda felt every one of them. I'm surprised Yoda didn't end up with the same fate as the man that became Darth Nihlius later on (whoever he was), just from all those deaths happening, or outright severing his connection to The Force (like Meetra Surik did), just so he could stay alive!
Anyway, my point is that, if we're going with your logic that Wounds in The Force need a place to linger, like a still intact Malachor V, or even Sernpidal, or Humbarine, why didn't we see Darth Nihlius return in some form from the result of those catastrophes, like he did with Malachor V? Is KOTOR 2 just an outlier in Legends-canon in regards to the whole "Wound in The Force" thing, were all those catastrophes (including all those deaths of Jedi from Order 66) just dwarfed by the sheer amount of loss of life at Malachor V (like, more people died over Malachor V than everyone on Humbarine, or Alderaan put together, meaning far more than 500 BILLION PEOPLE WERE SLAUGHTERED IN ONE EVENT!), or, am I still missing something? And about the whole "Malachor V deaths were slower, and far more painful" argument, what about all those Base Delta Zero styled bombardments that The Empire did that could rival that much pain, and suffering, as worlds were not dusted, but were set on fire, anyway, and everyone still died, perhaps more painfully so?
And, one more thing, do you think that Revan, and/or Meetra Surik are bigger war criminals than General Grevious, just for that one battle alone?
@@jakemerchant950 And, on another subject that could be related to this, what if Abeloth was that new incarnation of Darth Nihlius, after The Yuuzhan Vong War, and The Second Galactic Civil War, since both wars caused such atrocities like Malachor V, but on a galactic scale? I personally don't buy the argument that Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side was what released Abeloth from The Maw, as other people of great force power fell to the dark side too, and far more atrocious things have happened between The Clone Wars (where The Ones died), and Abeloth escaping The Maw. I believe The Yuuzhan Vong War was FAR bigger a shift in The Force than one man's fall to the dark side (however powerful he was), as so many people lost their lives in 4 years, and other wars too. Why would Jacen's fall be what truly allowed Abeloth to escape, when FAR worse things were going on at the same time?
