Bishop Baron, you and Jordan Peterson have brought me back to God. I was raised Catholic. I was Baptist, had my first communion, and in the 8th grade I did confirmation. As I got older I lost my faith for so many reasons. But by the grace of God I stumbled upon you and Jordan Peterson...I am awake now. Thank you so much and God bless you.

When Moses climbed the mountain to pray to God, God said to Moses, 'Take off your shoes because you are standing on holy ground.' Moses then knew what God wanted him to do and he did it. Immediately.

This reminds me of Mother Theresa's saying that God does not require we do great things but that we do small things with great love. The smallest self-sacrifice for the good of another is indeed letting Christ live through us.

Deep in prayer, my cross to wear
      I kneel upon the floor
Temptations of a catholic priest aren't easy to ignore
But I can not control myself
      He rips my soul apart
For one small sheep among my flock has
      Stolen the shepherd's heart
      Altar boy, altar boy
      Confess your sins to me
You will find the grace of God
      Inside my rectory
      Sunday mass or bible class
I catch him in my view
I close my eyes but there he lies
      Spread-eagle on the pew
And when I see him in that frock
      My conscience goes awry
I'll give him some communion wine thats
      Spiked with Spanish fly
      Altar boy, altar boy
Is it gonna be heaven or hell?
You can play my organ all night long
If you promise never to tell
      ... Our father
      Who art in heaven
      Hallowed be thy name...
I could dress him up like the pope and then I'd...
Oh dear god, the shame, oh no
      Lead us not into temptation
      Deliver us from sin
Or we could pretend that he was Jesus Christ
      and I was Mary Magdalene
      Altar boy, oh altar boy
      Confess your sins to me
You will find the grace of God
      Inside my rectory

When I sin and fail, and feel the guilt of it, I remember that Jesus willingly suffered all he did for my sake. If he was willing to go through the depths of suffering for me, surely He will not give up on me now. I have vowed to myself that when I sin, I will pray.

A less gifted theologian would have presented a talk on the “economy of salvation” (HOW we are saved). But Bishop Barron presents the topic in a way that is rooted in Scripture (for this alone, thank you, God) and is highly memorable. A prophet among us, indeed.

At this time in Eternity the Catholic Church is ISRAEL.
The suffering SERVANT IS JESUS. He suffered greatly for our salvation.
People are fickle, as it was then it is now. Jesus is being mocked, beaten, rejected today as He was back then, by the ones who should be giving their lives to defend HIM IN HIS HOLY TEMPLE! AMEM.🕊

I was Lector at the Vigil Mass, reading these passages from Isaiah. It made me think of how we need to be prepared to suffer for our faith in these times, so increasingly anti-Christian. I pray that I will be able to hold fast to my faith when those around me mock me and accuse me. Help me Lord to suffer for you, and align my will to yours.

Well said! What we need is to grow in our love for God, and arrive even at a perfect love of God. This is possible by God's grace. When we love God sincerely, we do his will notwithstanding all the difficulties we come across. Grace is more powerful than sin. I’m publishing a weekly TH-cam video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you

Thank you for mentioning motherhood, Bishop. This past year I went through a very difficult pregnancy and one of my other children spent weeks in the hospital. I am sad to see people holding onto the culture’s mantras of looking inward to determine truth, because in the face of intense suffering-of blood clots or racing in an ambulance with your daughter-these mantras become folly. Only in a scope that includes this peculiar, suffering God do these dark moments seem redeemable. ✝️🙏🏻

Never giving up. Thank you for ushering me back to my faith and for deepening my love and understanding of how you have love me and the rest of humanity through them. I have come to appreciate the richness of my Catholic faith. O how I thirst to know more about You. My prayers for Pope Francis, Cardinal Chito, Cardinal Joe, Bishop Robert Barron, Bishop Ambo David, Father Chris Alar, Father Dave Concepcion, Father Jerry Orbos and many many more priests who continue to proclaim your love and mercy. I can only imagine the struggle the people in the time of Jesus had in accepting that Jesus was truly the Son of God establishing a new convenant with his beloved people in a way no one could imagine would be the way if it wasn't for the grace from God and the movement of the Holy Spirit. It is a deeply moving and awesome realization. This presentation did not fall upon deaf ears as I continue to process His gift to us upon His cross!

*"If Christ is God, he cannot sin, and if suffering was a sin in and by itself, he could not have suffered and died for us.*

Jesus' suffering was not a sin. He became sin. He became the propitiation of our sin. Remember, Jesus was all God and all man. Eve's seed, Jesus, crushed Satan's head, as predicted and spoken by God to Eve in Genesis. You have to understand that God lost His creation to Satan, because of Adam and Eve's sin, their freewill to choose. By eating the fruit, by disobeying God, Satan became the god of this world. This is where Jesus comes in. God's plan to win his creation back. Jesus paid the price of humanity's sin, Adam and Eve's sin, and the original sin that followed afterward in every human birth. However, when God's anger was once and forever appeased, when Jesus spent three days and three nights in the belly of the earth, suffering for us, He triumphantly rose from the dead, but before he rose, the Bible says, that Jesus made a 'show' of Satan and every demon in hell. Then Jesus took the keys of hell and death from Satan, and rose from the dead. Jesus was in hell unjustly. He committed no sin. He became sin for once and all-the final sacrifice--no more offering bulls and sheep for the atonement of sin. Hallelujah!

@@colleenklaus375 I'm a Catholic and a catechist who cares very deeply about truth, especially when it comes to our trinitarian God......
Much of what you write has truth, but it isn't quite the whole story.
Jesus is pure love. God doesn't become sin.... we know this by understanding his very nature.
God never lost his creationat all. God is the Supreme Being over all things.
Adam and Eve's sins Unforgiven amongst each one of us at baptism. During the baptism those sins are washed away.. original sin.
Satan is not and will never be a Supreme Being or God, even if some choose to worship Him. The evil one and his minions will never be elevated. They have no power. They are weak and they are cowardly.
With all that said, I understand what you are trying to say. It is true that sometimes people have other things to which they are more attached. For some people money is a God, while for others they believe they are God. Other philosophies believe that the powers of nature represent different types of gods.... false gods.
Jesus was never in hell. Let me repeat. Jesus was never in hell.
Even though the Bible uses the word how to say that He descended into hell..... the word hell is simply the English translation of the Hebrew word that refers to Hades. Hades is best described in Roman and Greek mythology as the resting place before ascending to Heaven... or descending to hell.
Jesus Is God, he was not subject to any other Force at all. God is omnipotent!
Jesus never became sin nor could become sin by His very nature.
With so many people Miss is that Jesus is pure love. His passion and sacrifice was to give us his body, blood, soul, and divinity. It's why the Eucharist is so important, as it is the means in which Jesus lives in us and we can live in Him.
No one can understand God fully, simply because know Him we would have to be Him.
satan is not a god nor every will be.....even if some choose to worship evil or other things. The truth is that Satan is extremely weak unless we choose to give him power.
Jesus showed us many things. The most beautiful is true love- Agape..... love in service and in sacrifice as well as the virtues such as humility and charity. This was such a revelation that even the Greeks added a new word.... the word Agape.....versus eros which refers to physical love.
Additionally, Jesus represented the most radical affirmation of the elevation of human life- made in God's image and likeness.... the thing that unifies all of us....... when the son of God became man in the womb of a woman...... it was the most radical affirmation of human life. It was the time when the architect became the house, or one could say the potter became the cup.
Please consider following some of the Catholic apologists such as Scott Hahn and Steve Ray..... or consider visiting the website of The Magis Center of Faith.
BTW, the Blessed Mother Mary was the ark of the new covenant. When she said yes it was Mary who crushed the head of satan. Jesus is the New Covenant.
      Pax

Jesus' passion was pure love. He emptied himself out for us. He gave us his body, blood, soul, and divinity. This is why the Eucharist is so important so that He can live in us and we can live in Him.
Jesus is the most radical affirmation of the elevation of human life.... when the Son of God became man in the womb of a woman.... the potter became the cup the architect became the house.
It is humility that has the most power and is the fundamental basis for all virtues. Certainly no suffering is done in vain, but Jesus did much more than suffer. It was an act of humility and an act of giving, and pure love... in service and sacrifice: agape.

Bishop Barron you are a consummate teacher. I love all of your teaching sessions. How blessed are we. Excuse me, but where are your bother Bishops? I can imagine what our holy Church would be like if we had more Bishops like you. In this culture we are poorer without their input. The laity, I feel, is getting restless. We need more of the leadership that you provide. May God bless you and your work.

It's hard to recognize the opportunities we have in our everyday activities to share in Christ's suffering by relieving the burdens of others when it is inconvenient . Thank you for the examples you give. I would love a series on the Book of Isaiah!

It may very well be that Word On Fire organise some online Scripture Study definitely in future for the benefit of one and all.

Why do some have to suffer and others need to make sacrifices to serve them? Can't you all think of a world where no-one has to suffer? With all this glorifying of suffering and sacrifices, will there be suffering in heaven also so that we can continue making sacrifices? It's sickening.

Is that all what you have to comment? Or is it a matter of the 'attitude?'

This theme of a sacrifice to benefit others and of one going down so the others get up has been central in my life lately. God bless you my Bishop.

When I was a kid, I thought how nice it is to be God (as foolish as I was back then thinking about it), because you can do whatever and you have all power to feel nice and enjoy everything you can; but now I know that God Himself in Christ Jesus suffered terrible suffering and agony unto death for all of us, so much so that people would stand away from Him, "nothing in his appearance that we should desire him."
