I recently began going back to church and praying the rosary everyday for a couple of months now. I have learned so much and I finally have peace. Even more recently, I met a homeless man who asked for money. I only had 20 cents to my name and I gave it to him feeling horrible, but I then remembered I had my rosary in my pocket. I gave it to the homeless man and he began sobbing and saying it was the best give he had ever been given. I don’t know if he was sincere, but I do know that I hope it helps him the way it has helped me. His name is Ernesto

God’s plan is always superior to our human planning. Often prayers are answered with God saying no, I have something better in mind for your prayer. If we can stay connected to faith during the storms of disappointment, failure, pain and suffering, we often come to see God’s “better plan” . We are always stronger when we are firmly tethered to our faith.

My husband died three and ago. I’m annihilated in so many ways. In my grief I have tremendous sympathy and tenderness for all suffering in this world. The fundamental spiritual principle: « the grace you have been given is not meant for you. It is meant now to be given through you to the world and in the process you find yourself increasing « . A huge lightbulb just went off in my head. It’s not about me; it’s not about you. Bishop Barron you clearly follow this spiritual principle in how you freely share your God given intellect and insights to all of us. I’m retired now but I’ve had 3 service careers in my life and thinking about them the other day the Holy Spirit revealed to me that it was not I who chose those for me, but God. Then I had a sense that it was a power greater than myself that lead me to them and I had little to do with the choices. God put me often in positions to teach or train others too, and not always to my benefit, but to his. I thank you for offering even more clarity to my life experience. Blessings to you all.
The Psalmist said, “God is going to fill your mouth with laughter.” Some of this laughter is going to be from the amazing things you see God do. He’s going to make things happen that you didn’t see coming. He’s going to show you favor that thrusts you to a level you only dreamed about. He’s going to fill your mouth with laughter.
We need more priests like you Bishop Barrón. Recently, my priest denied giving me his blessings during the sacrament of reconciliation because anger is not a sin. He also denied me absolution. Apparently I must commit a grave sin in order for me to seek a priest’s blessing. Bishop, You are one of God’s appointed ones. I’m glad I keep my eyes in God and not man.
Oh my, Bishop Barron! This Sermon is full of "The Prophetic" truth that should lead us all to do His will, not our own. As it is written in The Lord's Prayer. Although you did not mention him by name, Joel Osteen comes to mind. I’ve been listening to him for years, and I receive a scripture reading and a message from him daily. I’ve never heard him say in any message that the purpose of prayer and a relationship with God is to guarantee material prosperity. In fact, he does say, that if God blesses one with wealth and financial success, that the purpose of that gift from God is to share the wealth with those less fortunate. That’s foundational for him, and as a sidebar, he has a brother Paul, who is a surgeon, and does pro bono work in Third World countries. His mother was seriously ill and dying of cancer. The doctors offered little hope. After much praying and turning to God, her cancer is in remission. Thank you for reading my thoughts. God bless you.🙏
I received the grace Bishop Barron is talking about. The good news is that I ended up using it to help somebody even without planning it. It's like nothing I've ever achieved in my life. Technically I did it, but it was 100% GOD work. I don't know how to explain it. I did pray for it though. I asked GOD for it...and then I forgot about it.
Looking forward to the USCCB Superbowl commercial encouraging all people to pray on their knees for the survival of this country for another 100 years and for an end to racism with a reminder of terrible cases including the mot recent Brian Flores. This generation of US bishops cares more about spending money and keeping people busy than souls and the survival of our country.
