a truly brilliant video! I just replaced the motor on my grandmas DC14 with your help, it hadn't stopped working yet but stank of the motor death smell when it ran, and the pre-filter was full of black dust, and she admitted to having never changed or cleaned the filters so I guess that's what killed it? also interesting the switch was playing up, I've already replaced the micro-switch on my grandmas DC14 because it wore out, I think because the clear red button has the depression off to one side your always pressing the switch unevenly so they wear out
the post motor filter is a must to me. the machine is just too damn loud without them.. they can be swapped with old prefilters but id guess thats more restrictive than the hepa cause it makes it even quieter lol just make sure to stuff some polyfill or something in the centers
Arguably the best none ball dyson ever made - not my view though I'd rather have an 04 or 07! Still - older none ball dysons are much easier to repair - don't tend to do them now though - great video again Sam
Same I prefer a nice 07 for reasons I've never quite been sure of but if I needed to do actual cleaning I'd pick a 14... They sit nicer in the hand and the wand is nicer to use. Close call though!
What exactly happened to the original motor? Carbon brushes ran out? Bad bearings? Or just dirty filter? Also its good you have the screwdriver to disassemble the deep down screws. I have had to use a small flat head driver to do the screws on the back of my dc14 and its not fun (but does the job)
Pretty much was! I think it got really hot due to the clogged filter, this caused the comm segments to expand and move which then wore the brushes down in probably minutes until connection was lost.
Crikey, going to have to change your name to Victor Dysonstein if you keep reanimating these ancient creatures! It certainly hadn't been looked after at all, had it? Poor old thing!
You make it look so easy. Shame on you. I understand why you do this job on the floor with carpet. I did the job on my kitchen table and parts fell off and broke. I had to order new ones.

@beko1987 I've now got another dc14 Sam and I've joined the other side of the fence - I like it!
Nice motor change, Sam. I prefer the MTR299. That other motor you fitted sounds terrible.

I find the mtr299 to be a better sounding motor personally I have always gone with them great video though
