  • I found this Dyson in the holiday home we were staying in and as it was making more noise than usual, I decided to have a quick look to see if I could solve the problem. I also gave the filters a wash, tapped the cyclone to remove the fine dust stuck on the inside and gave it a general quick clean. It is now working better than it was when I first used it with a bit more suction and less rattle than it had before.

I found a DC14 All Floors in my local USA Savers thrift store, a few months ago, last year, and it sounded great, too! All 3 cleaning attachments were present, with a clean filter, and high suction, as well!

The brushrolls on the non clutched versions were a different shape to the ones in the clutched models, with the clutched models having the more slimline helical plastic shape, and the non clutched versions having a more round, standard shape for the the brushroll. Not sure why they did it like that, but thats Dyson for you.
It sounded like the main bearings in the motor itself were worn, probably been used most of its life without getting the pre-motor filter cleaned, it may have also got a clogged exhaust filter restricting airflow, and as you know, clogged filters pass through more dust, and make the motor get too hot, leading to failure of the motor. I dont think that motor has long left, it may well "die soon". Nice of you to give it a bit of love though, but its probably all the love that machine will get before that motor blows.

It's not all that bad. I still have an original DC14 that has been very reliable for about 20years. The machine in the video has obviously been neglected, but is still working, albeit very loudly. I agree about the extension hose being a struggle, but outside of that weakness, it's been a very good tool. I expect more good years ahead.

I really like these legacy Dysons, just feel like they were a head of they’re time. Weren’t the best performers but still very cool.

I used to have a DC14 and hated it with a passion. The suction at the hose was pretty good but at the brush roll is very poor, the V6 cordless has more suction at head and a better brush roll. The noise was the worse my ears were ringing afterwards. Only thing I didn’t mind is that cyclone system worked well the filter’s stayed clean for longer than current cordless models.
It was replaced with a bagged Miele much cheaper than the Dyson I will say and to date it is the best vacuum I’ve touched and with some bonus attachments it’s made it a very good performer. Also never going bagless again hate cleaning bins and filters when I just fit a new bag and get on with life.
I like the brush roll design on this one compared to the one on we had, ours had the clutch system also.

I came across you when I was trying to change a filter on a DC Dyson.... I agree with you that you are a bit on the sad side, but I do love a bit of eccentricity... If I was ever to employ a cleaner then someone old school like you would be perfect... Take care

The color scheme of that particular DC14 reminds me of the DC33. It's a shame really that we never got too many of the non-clutch models for the DC07 and DC14, we had a DC07 Carpet that was a Walmart exclusive, but none after that one, ever since then we had models with a giant opening on the rug plate, and that weirdly thin helix designed brush bar. I really do wonder though if the cleaning performance of these non-clutch models are any better if any. I do like how the brush bar looks on that particular DC14 (and that one looks to be a triple row if I'm looking correctly).

These were always louder without the clutch but replacement brush rolls that are not genuine are much louder.

Not sure if you can help me but my DC14 does not stay flat to the ground, I already wd40 every single joint in the head and replaced the hose (agitator to motor hose) but it still wont sit flat with the agitator flush to the carpet unless i practically try to vacuum with it nearly upright and its so annoying!!

I’ve noticed that this is a belt driven and not a separate system like they are in the us is that only in the uk or did it come as an option

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

This is an old model that was also available in the US which was belt driven. The DC15 was the first upright to have a separate brushroll motor.

I’m not a fan of early Dysons, lack power and very cumbersome, good grief the racket of that machine, they were not much quieter when new, although Hose on newer ones still fight with you (DC55) we have.. have a nice time Roger 😎

A very kind gesture, my Dyson service goes like this:
    Step one unplug the Dyson.
Step two place the whole machine in the bin.
Step three Purchase a suitable non Dyson made alternative.

It’s definitely a bearing, the sqeaking is part of the motor bearing.

This dyson sounds like a dc 03 I wonder if this dyson dc 14 has a dc 03 motor in it

Dyson used Samsung motors in their dc14s/33s around 2009/10 rather than the standard ydk ones so they sound different. I believe that’s when this machine is from as I have one similar

You must have bought them all second hand as the DC14 has been discontinued for years and why would you keep buying them if they were crap.
