Hi Rob can't believe I've only just found your channel so obviously I've binge watched loads of your videos. I used to fish the south and main tyne probably 20 years ago but moved away to yorkshire and a busy life meant I had no time for fishing . Your videos have been a real nostalgic pleasure to watch and I now realise how much I miss chucking a fly .
Glad you're enjoying them, the rivers of the north east while undoubtedly not as prolific as they would have been in your heyday still offer as good a chance of a fish as anywhere I reckon. We don't know how lucky we aren't here.
@abakerslife your so right the northeast and borders is blessed with some great rivers . Fishing the south tyne at night for seatrout was my favourite. Surface lure on a really dark night is possibly the most exciting fishing I have done . With a lot more time on my hands now I think my appetite is wetted again.
Another lovely video. . . .thank you. I hope you don't get disheartened wit the N. Tyne Rob. I fished it for a good few years at Chesters and it rarely failed. In fact, a long standing friend had one out of the Boat Pool on the lower beat 3 days ago on the fly. It was 25lbs+ , beating his previous best of 22lbs also taken at Chesters but on the top beat. Once again, thanks for giving us your excellent videos. Bye now.
Thanks Simon, congratulations indeed to your friend. I had my last day at Chesters back in June I think and pretty much swore to myself I'd never return. I like the beat I just never seem to catch it right and the lack of paths gets annoying after a while. I got murdered by giant hogweed trying to get into the pool above the ledges and all it would take is half an hour with a strimmer to open more of it up. I'm sure I will be back though at some point in the future. It owes me a belter after quite a few blanks there.
@@abakerslife Thanks for the reply Rob. Yes, bank maintenance was never a high priority at Chesters(!) and giant hogweed is seriously bad stuff. . .a keeper friend ended up in hospital after strimming some and the sap got into his eyes. Sounds like Chesters owes you a fish or two but you seem to be on a roll this season ie. your Drynachan trip. Look forward to the next video. Cheers.
Hi Rob, great to meet you a Styford, i blanked day 1, day 2 the water was running too high for Styford so we went to Warden, I managed a nice sea trout on the South Tyne, Day 3 i lost two absolute beauties at Dilston - Amazing times, thanks the for shout out - Cheers James - ps top videos as always - keep them coming
@@abakerslife mate you called it right, if the tug is the drug then I’m an addict 😁 what a feeling, the last fish i hooked was below devils water at Dilston, my goodness what a fight, up stream, downstream and repeat over and over, porpoising, jumping until the hook pulled, what a slab of a fish!! Amazing ! I’ll be back on the Tyne next year for round two after 8 days on the Alness and Carron
Great video again Rob! I've found on the north tyne a fresh with a small release is much more succesful for me over a good sized release without any fresh water on. I put it down to the temperature of the water being released from the dam is alot colder than rain water when it enters the river. Keep the faith, redesmouth lower beat is one heck of a beat if you get it right! Same with tarset 👍🎣
Good to see you in among the fish again. Nice video. I hit the Coquet today. Explored a new bit as I needed to go to Thropton. River on the bones of it's arse, but hooked one at the head of Vietnam. Lost it after a few minutes. Encouraging though.
I agree about the north Tyne rob, fish it all the time and never had a great deal of success on a release seem to catch then spinning more than on the fly but had some cracking days on big natural spates, great video two belters out the main river 👌
Well done Rob. Great conditions on the Main river and the North. Good casting and good technique gave you some nice fish though the salmon were disappointingly small but fresh as daisies. Lovely video well edited with interesting and helpful commentary. Phil Gordon
Salmon fishing is as frustrating as it rewarding. After what was a fruitless season, in the last week I got 4 (one of which I had to keep) and a couple of Sea Troot. Keep the faith bud.
Another very entertaining video Rob. Your casting was good and you certainly caught Some fish which is always nice to see. Can you tell me what type of line you were using. Keep catching and keep the videos coming Always look forward to seeing them. Best wishes @ Tight Lines…..👍👍👍
Cheers it was a Rio outbound scandi. Its nice to cast but I'm onto my second and the coating on the integrated running line breaks down suspiciously quickly.
Very nice! Heading to the Tyne this weekend, fingers crossed for a decent bit of rain! What was the intermediate line you used with the sunray shadow, or was it a tip?
I worry about your landing net clip Rob, could lose you a big fish if line gets ower that on Landing. Also mebby nah and again, consider moving your rod out at 90 degrees at end of the fly swim, you can cover another 3 meters off water, often on an inside line current crease. Valuable water you missed. I think it was when you, were murdering 'rocket man'. 🤭
Don't worry, be happy. If it happens, it happens and I will cry my eyes out but till that day I quite like that net so will keep on with it for the foreseeable.

Cheers, it was good fun.
Awesome video. Congrats to the nice fishes 👍👊
Thanks man 👊 🍻
Well done Rob, you were throwing out a lovely line. Nice to see it going tight. Great stuff, living a man’s dream!
Many thanks, steak, beer, fishing. Perfect!
Superb fishing well done !!
Thank you kindly, I guess practice does pay off eventually.
Brilliant Robb, fantastic fish, cooking lesson and serenade while you fish 🤣🤣
Thankyou kindly
Fresh as a fresh thing Rob. Tight lines and well done
Many thanks, that grilse was a spanker
Another great video as always Rob 👏👏👏🍺🥃
Thank you kindly
Good looking river and you caught a few so good stuff, you have learned quite fast and well compared to the first vids i saw:)
Thanks. Just finished creating a loop on the end of a fly line using the method you described. Very sturdy 👍
@@abakerslife Always happy if my advice is helpful mate:)

Good to see you catching ,its a big river that one too.
Thanks, it is but doesn't feel as vast as the Tweed or the Tay.

Great video thanks from Belfast 👍👍
Nice one cheers
Great sport this video sir tks 😊
Many thanks
Great job Rob , gotta have a Calvin and a ghille fly according to my buddy Phil.
Thanks, a Calvin's shrimp is my favourite salmon fly.
Well done Rob.

Many thanks Phil, glad you enjoyed it. Yes I've had a few fish this year and the majority have been small. I'm still waiting to hook the big beastie.

Congratulations, yes it’s a very fickle past time this one we torment ourselves with. I'm glad it came good in the end.

Many thanks Harry, glad you enjoyed it. I was using a rio outbound scandi line.
Hi Rob..... Many thanks for the information.
Tight Lines for the remainder of the season...👍👍👍
What kind rod reel setup thanks lovely fish
Thanks, I was using a Hardy Ultralite nsx with a Cascapedia reel and a rio outbound scandi line
Bacon butty, brown sauce and a black coffee. Fishing breakfast of champions!!
The only way to start the day!
That sea trout would have been a lovely meal I prefer sea trout to eat rather than salmon which is very rich but good start 👍🏼
As a fan of eating seatrout I think you will definitely enjoy the next video.
Well done Rob
Many thanks
What a day on the river show us the flies?😀
It's pretty much always that black and silver tube that I fish and the Calvin's that I showed on the dropper
Great video, and you were casting that line nicely, what line was it if you don’t mind saying 🥃
Cheers it was a Rio outbound scandi. Its nice to cast but I'm onto my second and the coating on the integrated running line breaks down suspiciously quickly.
@@abakerslifeagree wit that rob. One of mine actually snpped on the running section. Had a fair bit of hammer though and never cleaned.
Well done, good fishing and casting. What line ar you using? In flies out the rod.
Many thanks, I mostly use a Rio outbound scandi line.
Very nice! Heading to the Tyne this weekend, fingers crossed for a decent bit of rain! What was the intermediate line you used with the sunray shadow, or was it a tip?
Good luck, it was just a tip
