I think you’ve gettin lucky there rob, she seems very calm, loyal and doesn’t seem to stray far, you can tell she’s more mature than mine atm. Winnie is nearly two and a half so I’m hoping to see a big difference this year. Good vid 👍
Loved it! I love your new companion, however, I have no advice for you, lol. I've had three GSPs in the last 20 years, two males and one female. The first was a working-mans hunting dog. He liked to be in the woods with me, but only pointed woodcock. He also wouldn't hunt when we were hunting with others. The second one didn't listen and wasn't interested much in huting. The third, my present girl, is a dynamo! She listens, learns things faster than my kids do, and is an obsessed hunting dog who knows the game laws better than I. I think Star willl eventually come around, but - and I hate to say it - maybe she may need some training with a shock-collar. I used a shocker on my second GSP, mainly so he wouldn't run off and kill my neighbors chickens or decide to run on a deer in my yard and get hit by a car, and decided that he was at the end of the day, he was a very good house dog and a fine protector of my property, so he retired early from hunting, lol. Anyway, I love your videos. I would've loved to see you catch a grayling, I'm sure that's for another day, however. You're probably aware we don't have them in my neck-o-the-woods (upstate NY; border of VT & MA), and I'm so envious that you have such an opportunity. I plan one day coming your way, util that time, I guess we Americans can live vicariously through you. P.S. I love your little lunches of sausages, bread and the occasional sip of the "smooth." Reminds of that line from Robert Traver's, Testament of a Fisherman, where he says, "because bourbon from an old tin cup tastes better out there." Indeed, I get the impression you can relate, lol.
Great wee video and so pleased you have a new fantastic companion in Star, she is just brilliant and no trouble, seems to be really bright I wish you both well for the season ahead.
What a beautiful dog Rob. You've got a good fishing buddy there. Tight lines for the new season. Hope to see Star on some exciting new adventures. Cheers 👍
Rob I'm so happy you've taken on another dog, she looks a beauty and will do your mental health and life in general so much good. As you know I'm a cat person but I would have had a dog years ago but every river or loch I fished had a no dog rule on the permits, maybe I'm not paying enough or bribing bailiffs with cakes! 😂 Anyway it was seeing Karla (r.i.p) in a video that made me subscribe because I love fishing and animals and food so seeing you with Star is fantastic. Keep the vids coming Tight lines for 2025!
Many thanks Graham I have missed having a sidekick out on the river with me but I was reticent to get another as good fishingbdogs are a rare commodity. Luckily I think I got a good one. Tight lines yourself
Hi Rob Star is a beauty , she seems very well behaved. With a few more trips you should have a true fishing partner. I just got back from ice fishing for perch , brought a few home to fry up
Hi Joe hope you are all well.. I've been meaning to email and see how you feel things are going over there? Watching from this side of the pond is amazing. Every day I read the news with my mouth hanging open in shock as to what is happening.
Nice to see you have a new fishing buddy Rob. Sadly the grayling were not playing but the shoals take a lot of locating on a new venue. Best wishes Phil
Good to see you out with the new dog. It seemed to listen and stay close. I'm looking forward to further adventures of man and his dog. How are the waders?
Cheers, the waders are pretty good I have to say. They are like the wader equivalent of a land rover defender. Not sexy but they are rugged and get you through a day's fishing and keep you dry. Walking in the summer isn't going to be good but they are perfect for spring and with a set of suptracks in the boots are great on rocks.
Just picked up a hardy demon 15' #10 Rob. How are you finding yours? Still on the hunt for the right reel and line so any recommendations welcome. Tight lines for the new season and hope to run into you and Star on the bank one day.
Hi, I've literally just started using it. I've had two days with it so far using a mckenzie integra floating line. I went for the 10/11wt line and I like it though now I'm wondering that the 9/10 might have been a better choice but time will tell. So far I really like the rod. Good luck with yours 🍀
I like 'em. They are not sexy but they are rugged and with studs in the boots have good grip. I must say that I do end up with slightly damp socks but I kind of think it's more condensation than a leak. I wear a pair of waterproof socks with them to alleviate the problem. I don't mind that small inconvenience because they are at least keeping me dry all day otherwise. I won't be wearing them in summer but for spring they are just about perfect.
Great video. Good, you have a new fishing buddy. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos 👍👊
Great day out mate
Next time a few dry treats for the lass, she's a good one!
Makes me so happy you have another fishing friend.

Would like your honest opinion on the new waders.
