I visited Traquair house as a kid and have this very vivid memory of sitting in a room telling this old woman that i was a Maxwell, and her telling me that she was as well, I'm not sure, but she might have owned the place . It's definitely now on my fishing bucket list.
Love the videos mate was glad you hooked your first springer it’s a great feeling to get the first of the year you fish hard Carla the dog is a great companion good luck for the rest of the season look forward to more videos cheers
I remember a day just like that on the Coquet when i first got into fly fishing, never seen so many Salmon showing, water a perfect level, did i catch, did i b*****s, by the time i left the river i didn't know if it was shrove tuesday or good friday, my head was a shed with the frustration. On the plus side everyone i spoke to that day had nothing either.
Hi, I was using Hardy ultralite nsx rod, 13'6 #8/9 with initially a floating shooting head which I changed later to a Hardy Rocket intermediate head with 15' intermediate leader and a 5' fast sink polyleader.
She has a bit of life yet for an old lady. I've been double handed casting for 2 years. Initially I had a lesson with a local fishing guide, then I worked the rest out with a few pointers from the odd gillie along the way. I also had some quite helpful suggestions from viewers of the videos which probably helped to hasten my progress. That being said TH-cam makes me look like a far better caster than I actually am.
Great video and again full marks for persistence, just one of those days of fish showing but not in a taking mood!! thanks for sharing!
I've certainly experienced a few of those days!

It would be pretty handy to find out that you are the long lost heir and rightful owner of the place.
@@abakerslife it would be something, but I'm probably descended from a long line of youngest sons.

Cheers, glad you're enjoying the videos.
I love swing flies too!
It's such a great way to fish, it feels like you are hunting the river somehow.
Awesome video. Better luck next time 👍👊
🤞
Poor Carla 😂
It's not the worst misadventure she has had in her time with me!!

I'm no stranger to those days, next time I'm trying an upstream nymph in that situation.
@@abakerslife lol, you never know it could well work, sometimes it's good to think outside the box.
Hello, could you tell me something about your equipment, what kind of rod is it and what casting line do you use?

Your dogs a lively bugger, how long have you been fishing your casts are very good, who taught you to do the semi spey cast?

Oh and tbh I'm not sure what you mean by the semi spey?
See around seven minutes you had a team of nets people waiting in anticipation of you hooking a fish.
They might have struggled to get a 20lber in there.
I think a small stoats tail 14 or 16 could of picked you up one given the conditions
You are probably right but next year in that situation I'm throwing nymphs upstream at them.
Hi what line do you use on the hardy NSX sintrex 13.5 ?
A rio scandi outbound goes really well on it
@@abakerslife thanks thats the line I use on it
Wake and bake mate that’s the answer
I wake and bake for a living. It's how I earn my crust.
hi to stop your line knotting up on casting stretch it a bit should work tight lines
Cheers for the tip
