Bellingham. I used to live there as a kid when my dad worked on killder dam. Can still remember it up there great place. I remember going with my dad when he fished the Tyne and the river Lidl i think it was called
She is a fickle spirit at times in my experience but I'm sure she hasn't got anything against a flying c! Definitely a sea trout, flat tail, spots below the lateral line, mouth that goes past the eye. I can see how you'd think girls but as I found out this year some of those fresh north tyne sea trout look very grilsey.
When I first started Salmon fishing I got a season ticket on The Lune and use to get there for first ligh after travelling 100 mile and couldn't get a touch ,became an obsession ,just couldn't touch one , I wasn't dreading it but it became an ordeal, confidence nil ! Never got 1 all year ,was the wrong approach so can relate to your story, you think ' when will I get one ' ,I would say some sack it off ! It was the next season I got one in a flood ,on a worm !! I admire your resilience and not sure I would want to put as much into it now ,I am going to fish when conditions are right next year on The Yorkshire Esk for Sea Trout ( best fished off a flood ) and The Border Esk on day tickets which is a low water beat . Got spoilt last year with 2 salmon and a good Sea Trout in 4 visits only ,going to be hard to beat 😫 Enjoying the vids ,glad we saw a fish this week 🤣👍 Well done Youth !
Many thanks. Luckily for me I enjoy torturing myself with blank days but I think I'm starting to understand that to catch you've got to have confidence. I started fishing in an era in which there is so much doom and gloom about salmon fishing. I went fishing initially with almost the expectation of not catching and just took the experience for what it was. It made the rare successes all the more enjoyable but now I've spent more time on the river I'm starting to realise that there are some anglers out there that expect to catch and as a result usually do so. I fished a lot this year and when you're on the river when it's right time after time you start to cross paths with the same old faces. These are the guys with the 'touch' and still catch scores of fish each year even when it's supposedly a bad run or conditions are terrible-. I'd give anything to have the touch but sadly for me I'm not one of God's chosen few. I can try and emulate them though and next year I think I'm going to go into the season with a new degree of expectation. Good luck on your rivers for next year. As it happens we're off to the Border Esk next Friday.
I got my first springer extlay where you where not as early as fed but march 24th neva underestimate the tyne as you can hook fish anywhere normally where you least expect tiet lines all the best for new year 😉
One of your best videos yet Rob.. suberb!!!… from someone who has spent many an hour in that exact same spot at Hagg I cannot wait to get back out there on February 1st!!…see you on the river !
Many thanks, I enjoyed making that one. I do like that pool and often wonder why I never see anyone fishing it. I've only had takes from one specific lie though so maybe not the best idea to publicise it too much!
Belting video fella, no one deserved that salmon more than you.Strange you mentioned taking your first sea trout, I did exactly the same thing as a right of passage and then put my first (and only) salmon back. funny how these things work. thanks for all the video's, may the spirit of the salmon live on :)
Many thanks, I had fun making that one. I was planning to keep a salmon this year but was happy I didn't though in the end. I kept a couple of sea trout because there were healthy amounts on the north east coast.
Bliss!! Congrats! Although I will say, I think I may have thrown out my back trying to watch you net that fish. 😂 very good! Hope as the fall rolled in you found a few more. Your tenacity throughout the spring and summer was impressive.
Well done Rob, perseverance paid off in the end, really enjoyed that 👏🎣😄👍. Sometimes it can be tricky netting them by yourself, and one thing I’ve found can make it easier is to get below the fish if possible so that you can use the current to bring the fish to the net, rather than trying to bring the fish upstream.. hope that makes sense!
Many thanks. I think it's fair to say there was a touch of the circus about my net handling there! Thanks for the pointers I will keep them in mind. A bit of practice extending the handle is in order too. How did you get on yourself this year?
Well done dude. Finally !! I had the same type of season too. Lots of travel and fish pal ticket expense. Another season like this one and I’ll be getting some scuba gear to find em.
Cheers, it's a thankless task chasing after them but still it's good craic though and when you do eventually get one... I'm staying more local next year as I'm pretty lucky with the rivers I have around me.
Do not despair buddy. I had a friend, sadly he past away a few years ago, and we went salmon fishing all over Scotland salmon fishing and it was 12 years before he caught his first salmon, he had them on and lost them in the fight, and it was at Grantown on Spay on the association water a fish of 12lb a bar of silver. You can imagine the happiness that ran through his veins. We went on to troll for salmon on Loch Tay and he caught the biggest salmon of the year, 1999, from Loch Tay a fish of 27lb. So don't give up it will all come good in the end. Tight Lines and happy fishing.
Aye, about time Rob!, only kidding, well done for getting the 1st one in the net this season. It is really easy to get hung up on the reasons why you’re not having any success with salmon, but at the end of the day my philosophy is if you know the tactics your using work, then it's just a matter of persistence and luck, if it's going to happen then it will.😜 I’m missing the sea fishing expeditions this year, any new clips coming up for us?
Thanks, it sure took long enough and to be fair I only barely got it in the bloody net! I haven't been out in the boat for ages I'm afraid. Especially since the salmon fever took over and I decided that it wasn't worthwhile to keep the boat in the marina while I was spending all my time on the river. I would like to maybe take it across to the west coast and explore some new areas next year but I'm also keen on the idea of using it to fish larger lochs.
Brilliant, well done. So pleased too see you into a few fish. Your video is great. Better than watching Whitehouse and Mortimer! You've whetted my appetite for a Tyne salmon again. I tried this year (not as hard as you), but gave up and went back to the old reliable (smaller) Coquet. Looking forward to the next one.
Many thanks, that was a fun video to make. I think the fed water gives you a chance when there are fish in numbers about but in spring it's a hit and hope exercise!
Deep n slow mate early. Whizzing it round with a floater n light tip won't do. You don't even hold yer rod out to slow the start of swing. Thro in an aerial mend to let yer tip dig in before holding yer rod out to cover lies slower. Then lead it into yer own bank. Casting practise is one thing. To catch early u have to fish it properly. You want a full int at least with a tip too.
Cheers. I think luckily for me I never knew the good old days so I don't regret days gone by. I just take it for what it is and to tell the truth I ended up seeing a pretty decent run of fish on my local rivers. Mostly sea trout but the salmon came eventually, a lot of them after the season ended so hopefully they get a good year on the redds.
@abakerslife from what I've heard a lot of fish came up through the night on my local rivers so the fish were there just not taking the flies. Hopefully next year turns out to be a bumper year. Last year was a good one for me and I only fished the 2nd half of the season lol.
Hi Rob, enjoyed the latest video, can you tell me on which stretch of the NAF beat you caught your fish as I cannot seem to recognise it fom the video?, P.M. me if you feel it's better rather than putting it online for all and sundry, cheers.
Thanks for replying Rob, I might refraze my question which parts of the FED waters on the Tyne do you find most productive to you, and if you can be specific, I would be most grateful, as I am a bailliff it might help me to understand which parts of our beats need our attention to provide better amenities for fellow anglers.
First class videos. Nice balance of river sounds, casting and introspection. Well done.
Many thanks
Great wee film as ever 👍🏻🐟
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Great fun though, thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it
Nice one, great video and salmon, well deserved, oh and that sea trout looked delicious.
Thanks it was a fun video to make.
Congratulations to the fish, great job 👊
Many thanks, it was a long time coming
Great effort, great enthusiasm too. Keep up the hard work. Ps get a Sharpes Gye net 👍
Many thanks, I think my technique is more in doubt than my net!
Bellingham. I used to live there as a kid when my dad worked on killder dam. Can still remember it up there great place. I remember going with my dad when he fished the Tyne and the river Lidl i think it was called
I bet the fishing was first class back in those days.
Well worth the wait great video
Many thanks, it was a fun one to make.
Brilliant 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Many thanks!
the spirit of the river respect the flying C🤣🤣🤣 but the take on the fly is heavenly

Could not be happier for you! Congratulations!!! Nice fish!!!
Many thanks Earl, it took a while but you know, that's how it goes sometimes.

Cheers, tight lines yourself. Let's hope the Tyne is boiling with fish this year.
Thought I was watching the Dambursters at first 😂, so that's what a Salmon looks like 😅, congratulations 🍺,every cloud's got a silver lining 👍
I've had that tune stuck in my head since February!
Great video - really pleased you got one! Sea trout looked great as well.
Many thanks, I took the long way but so be it!
Another top video by you and for your perseverance 👍
Many thanks!!
Well done for keeping going. Im just learning to spey cast and will be going out on river Ness next year to thrash the water see what happens.
Cheers, good luck out there you never know your luck.
Best place for the money for a spring. River Tummel. Pitlochry angling club. April/May 🎣
Thanks for the recommendation 👍

Many thanks, got there in the end.
Well done! Amazing. You are a better angler than you give yourself credit for. Tight lines for a springer in 24 🎣
Many thanks, I'll certainly be in the hunt for one.

Many thanks, it was Mr Bean performance on the net... still it adds to the drama!
That salmon went off like a Spitfire. Hopefully your next one is a Lancaster. 🙂
And then one day ....a b52

Many thanks. 12 bloody years! He must have some persistence! Fair play it must have been a hell of a feeling when he got the first one.
@@abakerslife He had a bottle of whisky in the car and he said when I catch a salmon we will celebrate with a we few dreams. We had to wait 12 years.
It became a vintage whiskey in the meanwhile

Well done. This year was a poor year for fishing on most rivers. Numbers were low.
Thanks, a hopeful toast to 2024 is in order.
Ive been in that situation with netting a fish so many times and lost a few belters last season because of it. Bloody nets!
It was not my strongest performance on the net. I like that net but need to practice extending the handle to make it easier.
What is it about the sea that makes trout taste so delicious. Beautiful fish.
I don't know but I think it's up there with halibut and lemon sole as one of the tastiest fishes.
Deep n slow mate early. Whizzing it round with a floater n light tip won't do. You don't even hold yer rod out to slow the start of swing. Thro in an aerial mend to let yer tip dig in before holding yer rod out to cover lies slower. Then lead it into yer own bank.

Thanks for the pointers. It's a learning curve, next year I will be more clued up.
Good this👍
Many thanks
Absolutely brilliant that loved it , what line did you start with? And what did you change too ?.
Many thanks...I started with a Rio outbound scandi but the running line snapped so I finished the year with an intermediate hardy rocket head and tip.
Its been my worst season ever salmon fishing. Hopefully next year is the opposite. Lovely salmon and seatrout you had there. 😊

your fish at 20.38 does look like a grilse, I might be wrong it might be sea trout???
Great work ! Any tips on starter set ups / rods reels etc ?
Depends on the size of the river you plan to fish but you can't go wrong with the Shakespeare Oracle range of rods. No need to spend a fortune.
@@abakerslife thankyou,
It was a bad season here in Norway too, i fished somewhere between 50 and 60 hrs and only managed to catch 11:(
I fished 50-60 hours a week and caught no more!!!
