i can help with this question as i live in Blackburn and have delved into the newspaper reports of the time,,on the question of the solid Oak polished coffin and lined in purple,,it was of that quality because lots of money was donated from near by street collections,in fact from streets all over town,,feelings for this young girl were running extreemly high so it was fitting she had a top quality coffin,,on the unmarked grave,,again only what i have read,,ok,,it was unmarked because of the amount of people who was constantly visiting the cemetary to pay their respects after a while the grave did get grown over so it really was unmarked,the feeling for Alice in the town at that time can be seen by her funeral being on a Saturday not a working day and the droves of people who not only packed the cemetery but lined the streets for the funeral procession,a very sad time indeed.

Poor Alice , it's amazing what emotions can make people do if they not controlled . 18 years old is no time to die , what a loss . I did like the fact that her mum forgave her killer though , as forgiveness is essential in getting on with your own life , otherwise the pain would of eaten her alive . Such a shame and I agree, as shocked as I was to read that Alice's mother forgave him, she would have been tortured until her own dying day without doing so, it shows what an incredible person she must have been. The breathing was because Blackburn old cemetery is on a MASSIVE hill lol, the whole cemetery runs down a giant hill so I was shattered when I got to the top to film lol Thanks so much pal.

It was unmarked as her parents at the time of her burial didnt want 'ghouls' (as they said at the time) from visiting her final resting place just to gawp at where she lay. They wanted her to be remembered in the right way and not as a victim of a murder, if that makes any sense. I found the grave a few weeks ago with the help of the Friends of Blackburn Old Cemetary who helped my put together this very same story.
