Sociopolitical messages are bound to be present in media and SHOULD be present in art. The times change, people's ideas evolve, and if a change seeks to move society forward while not interfering with the lore or simply the immersion, then it's not a bad decision. As an example: Wesker in the Netflix Resident Evil show. Absolutely no one asked for the almost-nazi to suddenly be black or thought it was a good idea after seeing it (and is not precisely the peak of societal advancement), but objectively it doesn't interfere with the lore, it doesn't contradict what Albert Wesker is as a character. The only change that actively contradicts the character is explained within the story so, although weird, you can still watch the story as it is and not have it contradict the previously established lore. And the same goes for any other changes. If it's not anti-canon, then why should one reject it?
Remakes are good when they bring something to the table to justify their existence besides just a cash grab for the publisher. If they honor the original game, but provide additional context or improve upon the original’s gameplay or smooth out the janky edges (like the dead space examples you gave), it can be great. I’m not against the idea in principle, but I feel remakes should be mainly geared towards remaking very old games for modern audiences than for remaking games that are still fairly recent. I’d probably never have played the OG RE2, but the RE2 Remake was a fantastic introduction for me. Now I’m on my 3rd game in the series and am a big fan.

I have to add that there would be chances that remakes would detract fans from playing the original just for the sake of "visuals and gameplay". Case in point, Black Mesa.
I think the bigger problem is the fact that they get all your money upfront, on top of that they use the gaming media too suppress any negative criticism of the product until they have made their "box office goal". By the time you get negative criticism about the game, they already made the money and left to go start another cash grab. Gaming industry won't be stopped because there is always a kid who will ask his mom for the newest whatever game he wants to play, or a man baby with daddy money buying every new release with the "collectible". Until these people are stopped or shamed into protesting the gaming industry this is the product we will get. Skyrim creator said it perfectly if you don't want us making the same game 20 years in a row stop buying it. If your not gonna stop buying it we gonna keep releasing it
Funny enough Resident Evil HD Remaster on PC can not be set to any Ultrawide resolution such as 3440x1440 or 3840x1600, however if you use RPCS3 to load the PS3 version of the game you can stretch the image and although it is zoomed in camera perspective, but it fills the whole screen!
Examples of solid remakes are both Destroy All Humans remakes. They both smooth out the gameplay, add extra content, and while they do have a different art style, the more exaggerated look does actually compliment the satirical nature of both games. That being said, there's some censorship in both remakes that I, for the most part don't mind, but they're still worth pointing out. 1. DAH 1 remake cut out a line where, after Crypto abducts Mrs Rockwell, he says "So vocal, so responsive. This is gonna be fun". Apparently this was cut cause it sounded too rapey, even though at this point, Crypto still found humans disgusting. Small change, but not worth cutting either. 2. DAH 2 remake cut out a small side mission from the original game that involved Crypto forcibly outing and transitioning a closeted trans woman. On one hand, I get why this was cut. But Crypto IS the bad guy. It makes sense that he would do something like that. A change that I understand why it was made, given today's socio-political climate. Plus, the mission lasted like. 10 minutes anyway. It wasn't super involved. Not a big loss. 3, This one actually fucking bothers me. The entire ending of the kaiju fight in DAH 2 was changed for the remake. In the original, after you beat the kaiju, she turns back into a japanese teenage girl(yes it makes sense within the story). Crypto is about to just leave her when he sees her curled up on the ground traumatised, until Natalya convinces him to give the girl therapy money. He tosses bus fare on the girl and him and Natalya walk away. In the remake, kaiju still turns back into the teenage girl, but now she's still acting monstrous and is just roaring at people. I have NO fucking idea why this was changed. There was absolutely nothing wrong with how the original version played out, given who Crypto is as a character, and the darkly comedic tone of the game itself. 4. Some smaller things. Apparently some NPC dialogue was cut from both remakes, as well as other bits of dialogue. I don't exactly know WHAT, since I haven't played the originals in years. The remakes are still good. Very good, actually. But the changes range from understandable, to completely unjustifiable.

The Demon Souls remake by Bluepoint, took some odd freedoms with re-designs. Dislike when there is this amount of disrespect for the original art. HD Remasters should be when a game just needs 60 fps (or 120) and widescreen As you said, Remakes should be to be faithful to the original game, but also improve upon it where it's needed. Like, bad controls and some extra good content. No political crap, a complete change of fan-loved characters, or unnecessary redesigns. The original games are beloved for a reason. Which, MANY AAA(A) publishers and devs seem to have a hard time understanding.

Demon Souls had good press but seems to be quite divisive due to the aesthetics, music changes (it doesn't allow you to play with the OG ost) and more. I've seen it be called Demon's Soulless. The original RE:Make for the GameCube is the closest thing to unanimous praise I've seen (Dead Space 1 did well too) - perhaps as it was with the same director shortly after the original relatively speaking and it seemed to drop little if any of the charm of the original but I'm sure there are loyalists who would greatly prefer the recent GOG release based on the PS1 entry. A lot of the concern about remakes could be wavered if they added in the original game or sold them for modern platforms. RE4 seems to be somewhere in the middle for me, though it is a decent effort.
Music/Sound is a missing category for remakes by the way. RE2Make reduced the use of music drastically with RE3Make being a bit better. RE4Make is missing a far better voice cast, stronger lines and better cinematography from the original even if it would be fantastic in isolation (meaning if RE4 didn't exist and wasn't on almost all platforms). Even if the original voice cast can't be maintained (MGS3 manages this!), the minimum is allowing people to use the original OST options.
The original theme of Maiden Astraea is in my top 10 of all time best video game songs and the Remake's one I consider one of the most forgettable songs of all time to the point I cannot even force it into memory.

Nah Dead Space Remake was worse than the original. No amount of little additions will make up for the butchered story, worse characters, worse sound design, and they somehow even made it less scary.
I agree with you 100% Resi 4 remake & Dead Space remake are awesome, still playing through em again. Iv'e beaten Resi 4 remake about 5 times & I still keep coming back for more lol.
I wish they would remake the Resident Evil 3 Remake. That was one of the worst remakes from Capcom, short and lacking in content compared to the original RE3.
I'm cool with remakes as long as there's a functional goal beyond corporate greed. Otherwise there's already a red flag for me. I wish we'd see more remakes of games with wasted potential.
FF7R sure as heck isn't a remake. I think by the 2nd part the devs realise they shouldn't use that word to milk it anymore and just called it something else. It's clearly some timeline/alternate branching timeline shenanigans. I did like playing it though, the combat was fun.
one example of how not to do a remake I would direct your attention to the abomination known as Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. Metal Gear Solid is one of my all time favorite games and the voice acting in that game is god awful and the extra cut scenes don't add to the game either. Gmanlives did a great video recently explaining this. The remake tries to recreate the game in the way Metal Gear Solid 2 played and it just doesn't work.
Devil may cry is a series where many fans want to see remake. But due to unforeseen issues we might not get one and if we do it might not be perfect. Dmc3 is one of the best game in the series but none of us want that game to have a modern remake with dante modern combat. 1 and 2 sure. Although personally i want dmc4 to have a directors cut remake.
Resident Evil remakes are just games built from the memories of the original, its more dark and less fun. It have zero identity except ooohh look more dark and realistic.
This reminds me how it always feels weird that nowadays people use the terms remake and remaster just to qualify simple ports. It made sense when they called RE on Gamecube a remake because, like movie remakes did, they offered a relatively different experience based on the original work. But then they started using that word just for graphical upgrades. And when the upgrade was just lazy, publishers started using "remaster", which kinda sounds like remake but implies less work (and makes even less sense since it's a musical term which has nothing to do with video games). In reality, what people call remakes and remasters are just good or bad ports, and we shouldn't use marketing terms that mean nothing. There were very few actual remakes in recent times, for instance the latest RE or FF7 - we disagree on this one. Also yeah remakes have obviously become woke nowadays. But anyway it's the case for most big budget games, remakes or not. So it's difficult to avoid for people who still play those.
The Demon Souls remake sucked too. No real fan liked it, most of the big reaction it got were from new people in the souls genre who didnt have the OG Demon Souls to compare to that soulless crap
it is, weaker voices, too many curse words, weakened character stories, worse offshoot moments with the other characters (Ada and Sherry) and no route A/B zapping mechanics just over praised cause early RE engine showcase and bare minimum broad appeal design
The silent hill 2 remake's positive reception is a great example of how low the standard for modern games have fallen to. It's nowhere near as great as journalists and people who've never played the OG claims it is. Very mediocre remake created with a surface level understanding of the source material and packaged even more as a RE clone.
Sorry but wheres the gmanlives video about the allegations of shilling and toxicity in the comments of starfield. If you didnt find anything i explained it on the previous video in another one comment, again sorry for the annoyance.
I like that the FF7 remake is an altered retelling of the FF7 story. The original will always exist, and a 1/1 remake of it would be as pointless as remaking Babylon 5.
I just don't see it. SH 2 looks good, and I will be pre-ordering it. And the fact you keep comparing it to re2 & re4, which are universally praised, just proves my point. People on the internet complain and bitch about everything, they should never be taken serious or even listened to, js. Good video though, I truly do enjoy your content 👍
I get it. I’m still waiting for it with an open mind, but I’m less excited about it now than I was before they showed gameplay. Either way though I’ll still be looking forward to launch, I hope it’s good and introduces new people to the SH series
Soldout210, you are exactly the people who should be ignored and ridiculed. Only a complete ignoramus would think Konami is worse than Activision, EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft.... do I need to go on. Why a comment section on the internet is a meme, at BEST
You must not realize that the whole point of playing those older games and say not the remakes is due to the lack of publisher and devloper trust and the fact that the spirit of the original tends to be lacking in the remake/remaster which missing the whole point of those direct creative visions that the OG devs put into the game that they made. Also Komani isn't to be trusted, if you haven't figure this out already, I don't know what to tell you. Konami has basterdized many things left and right.
Can't wait for a Gran Turismo remake to have fatalities and gamers complaining so I can prove a point about FF7 remake ^-^ TBH, the last 20 times I turned on the Xbox was to browse the store (which looks like how I imagine the Ouya store looked like) hoping to find a Blue Stinger remaster or something like that. I haven't played a AAA game in ages, remasters (sometimes remakes) of 15+ years old games is literally why I still keep my Xbox. I bought the XSX 2 years ago, I played Goldeneye 64, TimeSplitters 2 and 3, and Stranger's wrath and that's literally it. Haven't touched it since. Un-ironically: great use of £500

I wouldn’t call bad combat in older Silent Hill something that adds to tension. It’s just annoying.
Re5 is awesome. I’ve been replaying it
15:39 what game is that?
edit: is it mafia?
Yep Mafia Definitive Edition
@@TheKingerd thank you for the response!
I'm cool with remakes as long as there's a functional goal beyond corporate greed. Otherwise there's already a red flag for me. I wish we'd see more remakes of games with wasted potential.
I think dead rising remake will be good!!
FF7R sure as heck isn't a remake. I think by the 2nd part the devs realise they shouldn't use that word to milk it anymore and just called it something else. It's clearly some timeline/alternate branching timeline shenanigans. I did like playing it though, the combat was fun.
Oh yeah I think the game was great. TBH I think Rebirth would’ve been the more appropriate title for the first one rather than Remake 😅
@@TheKingerd I agree but I don't think they can really go back and change the title anymore. 🤣
Banger as always Kingerd 🔥
Thx 🤙🏻
System Shock remake mention spotted
Absolute underrated masterpiece
one example of how not to do a remake I would direct your attention to the abomination known as Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes.
Although personally i want dmc4 to have a directors cut remake.
i would call RE2 a shitty remake too... mainly due to how half assed the second route is
Do you really think RE4R replaces OG? So you’re the first one.
Ima say it, SH2 Remake is good. Aight... Im out.
Yes, the political Modern Audiences included.
Resident Evil remakes are just games built from the memories of the original, its more dark and less fun. It have zero identity except ooohh look more dark and realistic.
Minimum effort maximum profit 🤑💰💸🚮
My favorite chubby TH-camr
literally woke up this morning with a plan to catch up on the last two vids i missed but LO AND BEHOLD
Hahaha good morning King 😂
@@TheKingerd THANK U FOR THE MORNING GRUB ❤️
Bro, I think you're great.. But your channel name is too silly.
all gender Washroom lolzz
The Demon Souls remake sucked too. No real fan liked it, most of the big reaction it got were from new people in the souls genre who didnt have the OG Demon Souls to compare to that soulless crap
RE2 remake is overrated.
it is, weaker voices, too many curse words, weakened character stories, worse offshoot moments with the other characters (Ada and Sherry) and no route A/B zapping mechanics
just over praised cause early RE engine showcase and bare minimum broad appeal design
The silent hill 2 remake's positive reception is a great example of how low the standard for modern games have fallen to. It's nowhere near as great as journalists and people who've never played the OG claims it is. Very mediocre remake created with a surface level understanding of the source material and packaged even more as a RE clone.
Played OG sever times, remake is great, my personal GOTY
Sorry but wheres the gmanlives video about the allegations of shilling and toxicity in the comments of starfield. If you didnt find anything i explained it on the previous video in another one comment, again sorry for the annoyance.
I like that the FF7 remake is an altered retelling of the FF7 story.
The original will always exist, and a 1/1 remake of it would be as pointless as remaking Babylon 5.
Your sh2 assumptions aged poorly. About the combat and enemies, I mean.
Because Konami has the worst track record in all of gaming and the first things we saw were cheeseburgerized redesigns and a complete gameplay change.
@@sold0ut210 This ^^
You must not realize that the whole point of playing those older games and say not the remakes is due to the lack of publisher and devloper trust and the fact that the spirit of the original tends to be lacking in the remake/remaster which missing the whole point of those direct creative visions that the OG devs put into the game that they made.
Also Komani isn't to be trusted, if you haven't figure this out already, I don't know what to tell you. Konami has basterdized many things left and right.
Can't wait for a Gran Turismo remake to have fatalities and gamers complaining so I can prove a point about FF7 remake ^-^
TBH, the last 20 times I turned on the Xbox was to browse the store (which looks like how I imagine the Ouya store looked like) hoping to find a Blue Stinger remaster or something like that.
