Actually Final Fantasy 7's remake was pushed away for the longest time. Square Enix kept denying making that throughout all of 6th gen and 7th gen. This is due to Square wanting to make other games (FF10, FF11, FF12, FF13, FF14, FF15) instead of going back to the well. they only caved in because the original devs who worked on it were started to realize they were getting old and the window for them to remake it was closing. This is why they didn't announce it until 2015
I always thought the FFVII Remake should have been more like the Resident Evil Remake for the GameCube, with all the pre-rendered background being more detailed as well as the characters models. But I think that would have been difficult since FFVII's asthetics have changed since the release of Advent Children, I mean the original FFVII was very cartoony, or should I say anime, don't think Nomura was going for a realistic artstyle, I think that was a reason why the game took so much time to be made, since they had to find a new look more consistent with the spin-offs Now I'm wondering if Square is planning on remaking previous FF titles, there's some rumors about FFIX remake. On the Enix side of the company we have more remakes of the Dragon Quest series, with DQIII remake being made in a HD-2D style, I wonder if Square has considered remaking one of the first 6 FF games in that style as well
I have a little theory that it's also partly because of Sakurai. When he asked to include Cloud in Smash 4 Square Enix initially wanted to make him put Noctus in the game instead since he was the most recent protagonist. But Sakurai refused and replied that a lot more people knew about Cloud and would be a better representative to the entire FF franchise. I think Sakurai's words was a wake up call for Square Enix that made them realise that they were leaving money on the table by leaving their most iconic entry in the series untouched for so long and ignoring the fans request for a remake.
@@wintersong2266 actually Sakurai met with Tetsuya Nomura about bringing a Final Fantasy character to Smash and Cloud was Sakurai's first choice, Nomura told him “are you sure you’re okay with Cloud? He’s not a character from a new game, after all", but Sakurai responded "if you think about who to add from FF, it’s hard to come up with a choice that’s not Cloud". Sakurai other options were Bartz from FFV and Terra from FFVI, but he thought people wouldn't know who they were, and while at the time FFVII never appeard on a Nintendo console, Cloud was the most recognizable character from the most popular game in the series, so that's why he choose him, and at least Cloud appeared in two games on Nintendo systems (Kingdom Hearts and Theatrhythm). Though it's kind of sad that the only FF representation in Smash comes from FFVII, Joker came with tracks from P3 and P4 and Hero represents DQIII, IV, VIII and XI. Same thing with Ryu and Ken, they only represent SFII while Terry has music from plenty of SNK games and Kazuya has tracks from all of the main Tekken games.
the fragment about preserving the older games just hits harder when you still think about how rockstar fucked over everyone by deleting the originals from stores

Whatever sick american game about killing people and commiting crimes with disgusting characters. The only american game I enjoyed in the last 10 years was It Takes Two, that one was creative I must say. English is not my first language thanks god.
This is really going to hurt game development in the long run. There's a whole new generation of game devs that are just focused on enhancing someone else's work rather than bringing a whole new creation into existence. I appreciate basic re-releases because it helps us play games on modern hardware, but spending so much time on remakes and remasters of games that probably don't really need them feels like a waste.
I can see your point, however, some remakes and reimaginings that can bring new life into a game, or the uncharted territory of redeeming a bad game (Devil May Cry 2 for example) can be valuable experiences for both the player and the dev. Maybe its good for devs to learn from the past to improve the offerings we get today On the other hand I have a very negative position regarding movie remakes, especially the disney live action remakes
@@Janon743 I agree on both sides of this tbh original works shouldnt be hindered by recreations of the past but instead they should learn from it well.. as they say "You shouldnt linger on the past but instead learn from it"
I can't wait for the remake of this video ! Jokes aside, I love your content. Your videos are always a must watch the moment I see them in my notifications
I think that remasters/remakes should be done only when it's necessary. The Last of Us Part 1 is the perfect example of a unnecessary remake/remaster. There hasn't any need for that game and yet they still did it... But the recent remakes of RE games are a great example for doing remakes/remasters at the right time: with the RE4 remake ending, I'll be happy to see RE5 and RE6 remade, with certainty that they'll fix the mistakes of the OG versions.
@@matheusbarbosa999 heh for the RE4 remake, RE4 did not need a remake and now what happens when someone wants to play re4? Will they replay the original that redefined the entire genre? Or the newest one that does the same thing other games have done before?
@@thechugg4372 From my understanding, Capcom is prepared for this situations. That's why they keep the OG's versions of their games available so people who don't like the remakes get their chances to play the versions they enjoy. I think everyone deserves the rights to play whathever the version they like. Not satisfied with re4 remake is fine, so you can stick up to the OG version, but if people enjoy re4 remake, let then enjoy. Everyone will either like something or another.
@@Comicbroe405 Taking away the bugs and perfomances problems the game came with, I still find it unnecessary. The remastered version of TLOU for ps4 was fine like wine when I played at a freind's house, and this remake is sorta of unneeded. But, like Green Goblin said: "To each it's own".
Erm, spoiler it's a sequel not a remake... And I got 80+ hours out of the part 1, part 1, 2 and 3 is gonna be one hell of a session. Remake is a play on words because Sephiroth is remaking history.
mark my words, there WILL BE a change writers for streaming services are getting fed up and wanna strike. underplayed, bad working environment and no creativity . sounds a lot like triple a game development it's not impossible that this happens with games too. coding isn't just math, you need to be creative too. and the dev crunch... disgusting. fuck blizzard the bad games getting released... it can't go on forever, bad reviews do affect a company. scamming people by preordaring will eventually lead to people stopping preordering because they know it's a scam
yea but at least the remakes are good and revitalize interest in the franchises, like dead space might get a new game, silent hill 2 remake brings along new fans so they can make new games, the resident evil games are really good.
I loved your video. I agree with your statement that remakes shouldn't replace the original even though my favorite remake is RE 1 2002. This video makes me wish that capcom would port the original Re 1-3 on modern consoles as many people believe their remakes are replacements. I'm in the age group of most modern casual gamers (maybe a little younger) and I love older games. I'm glad to see we agree on the modern state of remakes.
Eh I disagree with RE1R specifically, that one is an objective upgrade in every single way to og RE1 and the only reason to play that version is either cause it's the only one you have or cause you hate yourself.
@@thegamerfe8751 Actually they have ported RE 1 on PS plus, I was talking about 2 and 3 as their remakes are much more different but I do agree with our opinion on RE 1.
I'm also on the younger age group of RE fans but prefer the older games. I was only 5 when RE4 came out and wasn't even born when RE2 was released. I do remember my brother playing RE1 on our childhood and I rediscovered the RE franchise around 2014-2015 and made me a fan of the franchise ever since. Even though I couldn't afford the games and I didn't own a PC/console (only watched my brother play pirated versions lol) then, I fell in love with the lore and characters and would spend hours reading on Wikis, forums, and watch gameplays and cutscenes in TH-cam. I do wish they would port the old games on modern consoles. I agree with what you say that many people are treating the remakes as replacements, and the changes in the storylines and character motivations and personalities in the remakes feel like the OG stories and characters are being retconned. I saw so many arguments of people not understanding the characters and story, like for example with regards to Leon and Ada's dynamics. A lot of people that only played RE2 remake are questioning the relationship between these two since the remake made Ada manipulative and callous towards Leon. Whereas in the original, Ada, while being undercover, was a very gentle, calm, but secretive and mysterious character who likes to run away from the eager Leon for the sake of accomplishing her mission. Not to mention they also replaced her canon death too from Leon B scenario, which she died by saving Leon from the Tyrant. Their relationship in the OG is what made their chemistry palpable in the OG RE4. The problem with remaking RE is that the OG timeline is yet to be given proper resolution especially after RE6 left us hanging since RE7 just gave us a new story and character. Thus doing more remakes will certainly come off as rewriting the whole lore of the OG.
@@JG004-kk1do Agreed. They definitely should be considered as their own universe, but I do have some fears that CAPCOM might be using them interchangeably with the OGs especially with the release of Death Island that uses the remake Jill instead of OG Jill while using the latest OG timeline interpretations of Chris, Claire and Leon. But same as you, I do hope they rerelease the old games and preserve them. I hold the OGs so close to my heart and it would be a tragedy for them to be retconned in favor of the remakes.
Replacing the original game is always a finicky thing. My biggest issue (mostly with Capcom) is the remake taking the mantel of the original game's title with no subtitle. It's not Resident Evil 4 Remake. It's just Resident Evil 4. When you search for RE4 now you'll get a mismosh of both games but favors the new game so get fucked if you're playing the original. This is a trend that goes outside games and is why as a fan of MGS I'm immediately okay with whatever Konami does to MGS3. Simply because the game is not called MGS3. It's subtle but makes a huge difference to me.
Reminds me of the original Minecraft made from Java being changed to "Minecraft: Java Edition" and the one from Microsoft that's made in C++, the Bedrock Edition, is just named "Minecraft", after all the Minecraft editions that they made and the moment crossplay happened.
True. And with some changes done by the remakes, it will certainly come off as retconning the OG storylines. It would've been fine if it was properly titled, as it may be considered an AU of its own. But naming and marketing it the same as the OG really blurs the line on what is now canon and not.
@@charlestonobryant807 There's a subtle distinction, the original creative director was on the project. Remakes without the original creator are not invalidiated, but I think it's a worthy distinction.
One thing I've noticed about The Last of Us "Part 1" is that in any and every modern video discussing events from the first game, they are using the remake footage. If you watched any compare and contrasts between the show and the game, without fail, they were using the remake footage. It is beyond clear to me this was the true purpose of that remake- Even in some pieces referencing the 2013 release, they are using the remake footage! TLOU "Pt 1" might be the first true example I've seen of the new version literally meant to replace the old one.
...and so was the 2014 "remaster" already which was just a port of the game on hardware that could actually run it properly. Are they just going to redo that game every console generation and charge full price for it again and again?
@@pogethedoge I think the releases of it have been rather scummy. In terms of its initial release and its first "remaster" I do believe it was optimised for PS4 and then cranked down to run on PS3. Can't know this for sure, but PS3 tLoU looked like when I was trying to run a game on my laptop that it actually couldn't handle. In terms of it being good... I think it's "good", sure. But I also hate it being put on a pedestal as an example of how great gaming can be. In terms of its cultural achievement I'm just seeing it as a "please take us videogames seriously, we can do the stuff movies can too!"
@@PauLtus_B I'm happy if a video game has a good story, but I prefer then to do it in a way only a video game can tell it. I think dark souls 1 and ff7 are good examples
Finally someone besides Max that doesn't just shit on Nomura, thank you for being someone that actually looks into the interviews and understands the people that were working on Remake weren't just slaves to the Nomura show, they all love and respect FF7, but its not 1997 anymore, people change, tech changes and design philosophies change, nothing they change about the remake is out of spite or no knowledge of what made the original special, you don't write characters the way they did and then say they disrespect the legacy of FF7
@@sdbzfan1 The remake is as convoluted as a Kingdom Hearts game. The worst part is what you mentioned. Remake culture doesnt remake games that actually need a remake. Its always popular classic games that have modern ports and hold up just fine. Its morally, creatively and ethically bankrupt. The companies are basically saying "fuck you, easy money."
Yea most the games doesn't need a remake, basically any games from the PS3/Xbox 360 era shouldn't be remake well most of them but yea, if we talking about PS2/Xbox games then yea they should be remake
@@arthurortiz8206 FF7 remake is mid as fuck and its only half the game and Resident Evil 4 didn't need a remake at all. I argue Resident Evil 0 could benefit more from a Remake with the 2 character mechanic and stuff. Also Re4 isnt bad but definitely not a 10/10 the original is still slightly superior
My favorite official video game remake is kirby super star ultra cause it improves on pretty much every issue of the original while adding tons of new stuff the only issue is that it has slightly lower quality music which even then is mitigated by all the great new music
Super Star Ultra is probably the only remake I’ve ever seen where fans never argue wether the original is better or not. In my opinion SSU and Resident Evil 1 are “perfect” remakes.
The DS screens have a slightly lower vertical resolution than the SNES (256x192 vs 256x224), so it's *technically* not quite an upgrade on all fronts as you lose a few pixel rows at the top and bottom, but that probably hardly matters
Emulation is the unsung hero we all take for granted. Without it, so many influential games would be a past memory or ridiculously difficult to play today.
With RE5, it's possible to get a remake, the big hurdle is the coop part. For RE6, it will take a massive change because of it's large cast, intertwining storylines confounded even further by the coop. I don't think Capcom will risk making something on grand scale like RE6. An RE6 remake will have to be downsized significantly and splintered like a mini series.
I'm hoping for Code: Veronica to be remade next. I think RE5 will be remade next. Its a great game that could be made scarier and things can be expanded character wise. I would say RE6 needs to be revamped from the ground up. I liked it but it more of a Michael Bay movie than survival horror game.
I like your take on the remake especially with FF7R and also put out Nomura there on how he's always become the scapegoat for every shit SE does and also how he's actually the one who wanted the story in FF7 Remake to be as close to the og. He should def get all the praises for what they did in OG with killing Aerith and keeping other characters alive. You earned my sub.
I’m glad someone’s talking about remakes with such a level head and proper research. Really getting into the pros and cons of it all. For example talking about Nomura’s true impact on ff7 remake with sourced interviews shows me you know your stuff
I very much enjoyed your take (sorry that youtube didn't highlight this video when it released). I completely agree with your sentiment. Always have the history available and have the new interpretations of that history be new. Will it always work? No. But at least take the chance and make the best (version) game you can.
This is why I think ff7r, and re2 are the best remakes. They're completely new experiences that take inspiration from the originals that made those games so popular
Thats the thing with the gaming industry nowdays, where mobile games make almost 50% of all the profits in the whole industry and most AAA studios/publishers are publicly traded companies with investors that want as insane profits as possible with little investments, so what do studios decide to do? Instead of trying to create something new which takes time and effort, just recycle the old stuff that people love, costs less money to make and generates good profits. This is why becoming a publicly traded gaming company/studio in 90% of the cases means death of all passion from that studio which is a shame. Now remakes and remasters have their place, there are many beloved games that aren't or are hardly accessible anymore but what is happening now is just milking of an almost dead cow. Great video!
cant believe i found someone else who plays the original and then the remake. literally did the same thing you did with FF7, and now I just finished the original RE4, going to play remake now
pong remastered is pretty much impossible, its identity is tied to how simplistic and basic it is. if someone remastered it, it probably wouldn't be pong anymore lol
Remakes happen imo because when technology was newer it didnt allow some games to do what Devs actually imagined. My favorite examples are final fantasy games. Im confident turn based rpgs originally were a product of restriction rather than solely game design. The other half is from the consumer view point. We all pictured in our mind how for ex. turn based combat ACTUALLY looks in real time or how certain blocky characters would look with greater detail. Thats why things like advent children had awe factors. With all that said the last part is devs & consumer have a limited amount of time in life. & most have SOME desire to relieve what they used picture in thier minds but this time in actuality. Its a power emotion that cant blame anyone for possessing.
That’s fair, but I prefer that some games got remakes and remasters specifically resident evil I can’t stand the control scheme of the old games. I honestly can’t and I tried and tried, and it frustrates me further.
@@The_master_watcher The old RE games tank conrols are not that bad tbh..its just muscle memory with those games. Same with Tomb Raider. Play with the Dpad, not the analog sticks.
The current biggest problem with remakes is the idea of companies making their own games outdated in the process. This is most apparent with MGS Delta and the new Persona 3 remake. The Twin Snakes remade the first in a way that many didn't like, however it was still its own thing and the original was just as playable. However, rather than remaking Sons of Liberty, they decided on Snake Eater because it's more popular, thus making 2 the most outdated game in the series. Now if people want to get into the series, they'll be jumping from a 6th generation game to a 9th generation one, then back to a 7th generation one for Guns of the Patriots. Persona 3 is even worse. The "modern" Persona games have been milked drier than a Popeyes biscuit with no Sprite, however instead of going back and remaking, or even remastering, the original two games for a new audience, they're just going back to Persona 3. This, along with the re-release on PC and Xbox, will mean there will be four versions of Persona 3, none of which will be definitive because they lack content like the remake, graphics like Portable, or the option for a female character like FES. Don't forget how this will mean Persona 4 is now the most outdated of the three, and despite only getting a PC release a few years ago will probably be remade, making the multiple versions of Persona 5 the most outdated and 😵 It's a mess. How come Dino Crisis wasn't remade instead of Resident Evil 4?
People should play the original FF7 is they have not. Is a beatiful game and the fact that is "dated" is part of its charm because a lot of things they did are still unique .

Its a dicey road to begin on. I often times used to equate remasters as being akin to movies going from dvd to high definition. You were getting the same work of art, just upscaled and refined for modern displays. In the case of games that might involve fixing bugs, reconfiguring the prior controls, but as you've illustrated it sometimes goes well beyond that and suddenly words like remake or being thrown into the conversation as well. Then you reach a certain point where the latest release of a certain game, is vastly different from its original iteration. From a historical angle, it creates a headache to say the least when trying to explain to oneself how a series began, to what it is now.
the idea a remake doesn't replace the og I feel is lost on people because of movies and media being harder to keep over time, we don't have libraries and museums for games the way we do for books and history, so people feel that when something new and shiny comes out its replacing the old, when to me you can't replace art simply because once its made that's its version, there are versions of games I like more as remakes like a lot of Pokemon remakes but they don't replace the experience of the OG good or bad
this, new ones DO replace the original in people especially in group bias - why place the old when new shiney version is right there - shows the issue of the gaming industry, nothing lasts like other mediums (books, movies, comics, tv shows) all have better safety nets than gaming does people always say it doesn't matter cause they are APATHETIC to the issue
@@marcusclark1339 remasters are usually made to replace the old because they're essentially Updates with a price tag, while Remakes people end up thinking are the same because new and shiny but remakes aren't meant to replace but stand aside, hense different events and not being 1 to 1, a one to one remake to me is a remaster because its purpose is to just replace the old like Last of us part 1
I blame the gamers for this since we are the ones that keep on buying all these re releases. Also I see so many gamers asking and begging for ports or remakes of old games, I guess that tells you how bad most modern games are then. Personally I want new games or sequels, but I'm also guilty of buying a port or remake as well since it can be easy to missed out on a game 10-30 years ago.
i just wana say thanks for bringing light to the situation with Tetsuya Nomura being the new director of the remake. I personally was one of the people who bought to the idea that he was butchering the remake with his kingdom hearts history, but after watching this, I am starting to see that the remake is just the way it is because they wanted it to be that way
I love the little jokes, memes and stuff thrown in this video like not being able to skip cutscenes at all in KH1, the “Re Counter” and Sephiroth being all flirty with Cloud was the funniest. As for remakes in general they can be hit or miss, Majora’s Mask 3D made some changes fans didn’t like, Hot Take coming here: Sonic 3D Blast on Saturn is arguably the best version since it has better visuals, new soundtrack and 3D Special Stages, then again you could argue Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on GameCube is great as well, and Sonic is not known for having good remakes and remasters either, see: Sonic Adventure DX, Colors Ultimate and Origins. Kirby has great remakes with Nightmare in Dreamland, Superstar Ultra and Return to Dreamland Deluxe, lastly we even got Metroid Prime Remastered and Advance Wars Reboot Camp which are both worth checking out.
FF7 Remake was absolutely necessary and I loved it. I think the resident evil games needed remakes too up until 4 because 4 holds up just fine. However mgs3? Really? I'd rather they just remaster it and bundle it with the other mgs games on ps2
This video is perfect because I was thinking lately how everyone trashes a certain remake I played. Well two of them. One of them I liked and the other was just [Ok]. These remakes are Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Resident Evil 3 Remake. Now for context I never played either or the original RE3 or Yak 2. So jumping into these games were supposed to be a new experience while I played plenty of the other classic games in their franchise, these are both games from these franchises I never touched...so what did I think of them. Well first let's talk about Resident Evil 3 Remake. This game was Okay to me. It wasn't a bad game per day but it felt so short lived. Like I legitimately told a friend I never finished RE3 remake and need to go back to finishing it. But to my surprise when I went to load an old save I went back to the last level and had new game + already unlocked. And then I remembered! "Holy shit...I did finish this game!" But the ending was so unmemorable and just outright not as good as RE2 remake. That I simply just didn't remember it. And upon me realizing how short the game actually was. I didn't mean to beat it so fast but I did. And thought I didn't. But let's talk about... Yakuza Kiwami 2. This game...is a game I love! So much so that it's in my top Yakuza games. right after 5 and 0. But I hear other people trashing it as a remake. But to me I didn't get that experience because again I never played the original. So to me this game felt perfect I mean absolutely perfect in almost every regard. Its just a game I can go back to and play but wait a second...what's the difference between the remake of Kiwami 2 and RE3. Why is it that I love one and hate the other. And I think the problem is, is that While Kiwami 2 might not be a GREAT remake. It's a GREAT game. Whole RE3 isn't either it's not a good Remake nor is it a particularly a great game either. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad game. I had still had fun with it. But my overall experience with RE3R was..."it was alright." So to me Remakes feel like they have a lot to live up to. You have to bring new fans who never played the original. But you also have to bring in old fans who loved the original. So when I look at this video it explains why Kiwami 2 was so divisive in the community. Kiwami 2 was simply a great game & hit all the spots that a game needs to be, to be good. While RE3remake didn't do either. So thanks for this!
I just have to say I really love your channel. You always say things I completely agree with that I never see a lot of people saying and you’re never overly biased to one side of an argument.
Preciate u 🤝 but even tho I try my best to acknowledge counter arguments I still have biases as anyone does granted that may be harder to see if we agree on everything. Don’t be shocked when I eventually drop the vid you don’t agree with 100%
a big problem is the conditioning big companies do to audience belief something is "outdated". We don't really say old movies (outside of themes or message) are outdated cause they can always be seen again but not games - if its slightly old, its outdated/clunky/retro/weak in graphics/technical hardware - its gaslighting plain and simple in reality - those old games are as strong as they are because they were made in a era where they had to succeed or fail/flop where now companies release shoddy broken games with mtx, nothing on the disk if even have a disk release, and still somehow homogenous and empty and not worth it hence their constant today's push of "accessibility" - broad appeal for easy suckers who don't remember how good games used to be and accept the mediocre industry we're currently in with no complaint, hence the buzzwording of it, it isn't good to make for anyone cause that's a game with no direction or passion just a goal of endless money by broad appeal a good remake is RE1R but no other is as close to as that REmake and show the pointlessness of do it cause trendy til there's none to remake left - what's worse is the older versions never get ported leading only to emulation as the way through FF7R - in the sense its a poor remake and really can ruin the old one if u didn't play it or know it beforehand as it heavily can screw that plot up In short - a good game is always timeless, it not being something u like doesn't mean its bad or outdated just means you're more used to modern games "QoL" than older games or just not liking certain genres
Well sad to explain it to you but a LOT of people call old movies outdated, even worse, since old movies are also seen as classics, a lot of people call them outdated and overrated on top of that, which is something I heard a lot when talking about The Shining.
The best solution to the PC replacement problem is to delist the original version but package it in with the remaster or remake as a free download. That'd solve the problem of us losing access to the original version and it'd solve the problem of some people buying that instead of the shiny new more expensive version.
I played both the originals and the remakes for RE4 and Dead Space and enjoyed them all over again over a decade later. The improved graphics and gameplay with a few narrative changes felt great. Im hoping Sucker Punch decides to remake Infamous 1 & 2. I also want a remake for the cult classic Psy-Ops.
I don't know. I really don't get the hype over either remake, they are not that much better than the originals, especially Dead Space. I'd rather get the NEXT game that had the same type of impact as RE4 had when it came out then play a tweaked version of the game I already played a million times. I don't think either remake is bad, but at the end of the day they are remakes. I would have zero issues if we also got great new games but we don't really. I'm less mad at Capcom because they actually release new RE games and they are pretty good (nothing like RE4 but still good efforts) but EA can go fuck straight the hell off, they haven't released an actual worthwhile game in forever. 2023 is a laughably overrated year in videogames, I get the majority of game players today are probably the ones that grew up with PS4 so they don't know any better, but for us old as fuck videogame fans the decline is as clear as day.
Great video as always. Really like what you talked about towards the end. The quality and perception of a game only stands true in the context of the time, industry, developers and consumers. Remakes don’t try to replace the original but recontextualises it for a new era. It’s the same reason games once hailed as classics simply aren’t good or playable anymore. Not because they haven’t aged well but because the factors that made them groundbreaking at the time have been expanded on much further only thanks to the original’s influence itself.
Remakes in video games can be a boon. Often times older story based games were very limited in the avenues to express emotion. A remake can greatly improve those aspects. This also gives smaller studios the opportunity to build technical talent and pay the bills. That said, that is NOT why most remakes are made today. When a game is less than 20 years old, you don't need a remake, you need a port. Edit: you didn't have to come for my wig with the Mister Mosquito line.
18:45 fucking thank you. I know it’s a late response but many folks think that people 2 decades in the future want indulgence in old media. While there is great merit in that, companies that have the material rarely put in the effort to make it either accessible or known and the fans do a god awful job encouraging newcomers to check out previous material
I'm personally very happy with the state of remakes I hope it continues obviously I still want a new Innovative games but it's good to preserve some Classics for New Generation who never played them. All the changes you like or dislike or subjective. Different people to go to like them for there own reasons
They're obsessed because they're creatively (& morally) bankrupt. The new devs coming in today either have no ideas, or what they want to try to make, the beancounters/investors/shareholders/executives will not let them try to make. The golden era of gaming (90's to mid 2010's) were the result of a lot of experimental games that took off as cult classics. They're chasing these originals into remakes pipeline because they know they'll sell like hotcakes. But new & genuinely impressive IP's(excluding rarities like Hi-Fi Rush of course)that will also sell tremendously are done & over with among the AAA space. Indies are now where that's at.
I agree with everything said. There is one game I've wanted to play "legally" with DLC that is only available on PS3 because I bought it all back then. Now, the game's (and many other games, like NCAA Football 2014) DLC has been made unavailable to anyone who didn't buy WHEN the game was released. There's no reason we should HAVE TO buy a "remaster" or "remake," especially when that "new" version is only a cash grab. I could go on for hours about this, so I'll end with what I've said. Thank you for sharing this video!
As someone who loved (bought it like 5 different times kinda love) RE4 I can safely say that Resident Evil 4 Remake is an amazing game. Besides the funnier dialogue I can't really think of anything the original is actually superior in. The new game is a clean, polished, nearly immaculate experience that simply earned its praise. And I was very pessimistic about it before its launch. It also diverges from the original in enough areas to make it a fresh experience. They changed the opening village meta just to fuck with people who had played the original a thousand times. The classic strats just don't work. The same can be said for RE2Remake but NOT RE3 remake which is worse than the original in almost every way THAT was a failure of a remake
I feel like this is because a lot of new content can is really difficult to get out the door. Like the wonder women game we haven’t heard anything from that game since it’s announcement
I can't even be mad because honestly RE4R, 2R, 3R and Dead Space 23 have been my favorite games I've played this year and got me into a whole new genre for me.
It’s important to remember that while yes, many remasters and remakes are being released and worked on, more games are being made than ever, which means that we are still getting as many new games as we used to, even if it doesn’t feel like it. Although I do feel like it would be better to re release older games on new hardware, especially when a remake isn’t necessary, which would allow new fans to enjoy the old game, and new games to be focused on, rather than commuting to making a complete reimagined version of said game.
@@matheusbarbosa999 I very much agree with you on that. Remakes should be done when necessary to update an older game to be more accessible for the current gaming market/bring it up to modern standards. Remasters should be done simply to make older games available on current hardware. The Resident evil remakes are a perfect example of remakes being necessary to make a game accessible for new and old fans alike, exactly how a remake should be.
I remember people ragging on Ready Player One for having little/no original designs for its pop culture character avatars. The critics were like, "Did nothing NEW ever come out between 2018 and 2038??" Little did they know, the prophecy would come full circle.
Wait, I remember the old generations of gaming. There was a lot of clamoring for remakes of classics using new tech. Why is this such a big problem for people? Is it because they haven't remade Gex yet?
People act like it's a new concept. We never really got remakes in there past because technology was advancing at such an insane rate that they would've been outdated really quickly. But the tech is plateauing a bit now and all those highly desired remakes are being made.
cause we're surrounded by the scum design of modern games so big games become either poor quality homogenized open world messes/live service hellholes or remake of certain that's in a different style defeating the purpose for "broad appeal" and still missing content of the original
Remakes or even remasters have never really appealed to me that much in gaming because I view video games as a form of art, and good art, regardless of when it was made and what it was made with, is always timeless in my eyes, but many people, particularly spectacle chasers, insist on remaking every classic game imaginable because every major game now has HD visuals, so now the classics have to have HD visuals as well even if it compromises the original vision of that game. To me, this doesn't treat video games as pieces of art, but rather as disposable toys. The thing about art to consider though is that art is best made when the creator's vision is undisturbed (Or at the very least redirected towards a better version of itself), but developers often work for companies that only care for profit and they force the artists to make artworks they most likely don't want to make, especially if it's a remake, but the higher ups say to make it because it's what's making money right now. That's pretty much why we are in a remake craze, it's not necessarily the fault of the companies or it's employees, it's the fault of the customers who are demanding every old classic game gets remade, the demand and success of both FF7R (Which I think is very overrated) and RE2R are proof of this, there had been remakes in the past before these games, but after these two remakes released with both critical and commercial success, the frequency in remakes started to become more and more frequent, to the point that we already got the remakes of RE3 and RE4 when not even five years ago we were gushing about a remake of RE2. Hell, I remember being blown away by how photorealistic RE7 looked in the RE Engine back when the beginning hour demo first released in 2016-2017, if you told me I was getting RE4, my favorite game of all time, not a decade later again with that same level of graphical fidelity, I would've spent an evening giving a cactus a blowjob because I would've lost a bet. But here's the thing, even though I liked the remake of RE4, it did not need to be remade, nor do I prefer the remake over the original. Remakes are also often not made by the same people who made the original, and therefor their vision will be widely different from that of the original creator's, which is why we get reimaginings more than proper remakes. The RE4 Remake also did not recapture the feeling of playing RE4 for the first time either. Playing and falling in love with a video game for the first time is akin to sex for the first time, the first time is always going to be the best, and a remake won't recapture that. You want to recapture that feeling again, play and fall in love with something new like how I recently did with DOOM Eternal, Stranger of Paradise, and A Hat In Time.
While you make some good points I'd say ff7 remake is a good example of art that didn't get to tell its full story. Alot of things were cut or changed to the story and game due to the hardware limitations of its time. You look at an artist who draws or paints something when they were a teenager and redraws it 20-30 years after having been in the art industry its not going to be the exact same. No artist wants to draw it exactly the same. They'll want to show how much they've grown and changed since. You were limited to how much you knew or could do at the time. Maybe this time you have better proportions, lighting, Anatomy. Maybe this time you drew it digitally instead of traditionally. For me remake gave me a chance to see alot of things as I viewed them as before as a kid. As a kid og made me feel like turn based was as action packed as remake actually is. Remake gave me a better feeling of what a first class soldier was. That power and speed. This is why they are the best of the best. The small 3d models looked as fleshed out as they are now. Now I get to see subtle changes in clouds expression like when Jessie complimented him and he has a small smile but tries to hide it. While alot of remakes Maybe just cash grabs. Ff7r felt more like an artist wanting to use all of their accumulated experience to recreate a story that they couldn't before, while also trying not to erase or throw away the original story.
@@NerdAtWork Eh, still don't like 7Remake, the original game told it's story just fine and didn't waste your time with a lot of trivial stuff too much like the remake did.
your vids go so hard bro. a GOOD remake is like when a manga gets a fire anime adaptation and you can smile as you catch all the tiny details and seeing things that weren't fleshed out before now fully realized. that'll be $70 please
Im glad someone made a video about this crap. Games and movies producers are constantly creating remakes without any sort of innovation and uniqueness. They might add progressive tactics and ideologies or just completely botch the idea. Entertainment. Has changed. Its no longer about unique stories and settings, ideas and artistic values that push bounderies.
Uhm, part of what you were talking about the MESS that is the FF7 Remake reminded me of the Fullmetal Alchemist 2003/Brotherhood situation. Brotherhood's 1° season is a shorten version of the season the 2003 anime covered which were loyal to the manga. Cuz that, Brotherhood's season 1 is kinda rushed to the point many of its emotional points don't worke very well for a new audience. A friend of mine decided to ignore the 2003 anime and watch straight Brotherhood, and he didn't understand why everybody was saying the girl & dog and Maes were such emotional points to the story. Why? Cuz in Brotherhood, those were very rushed, almost like the studio (which was the same one who did the 2003 anime) expected its audience to already know those stories. IMO, that was a horrible decision by the studio
It's almost an artifact of the original series that the dog and Maes have that much of an impact in the story as very quickly they ran out of Manga to adapt so everything that was an adaptation had more room to breathe. Brotherhood more closely alots time to those story beats as they are represented in the Manga. They aren't exactly insignificant, but they don't get near the same emphasis as the original animation gives them. FMA was just a rare case of an anime that had competent filler writers more than anything! 😅
coming from someone who watched the Brotherhood first, I still got emotional with the story of Maes, girl & dog. While watching it, I never get the sense that they are rushed. If anything, maybe the problem lies with constantly comparing two works side by side while watching it. You can't enjoy 1 thing to fullest if you constantly look at the other side
Yeah pretty sure Brotherhood was made with the expectation that you've already watched FMA 2003. The first 10-20ish eps, everything up until Hughes... yknow, was done much better in 2003. But in Brotherhood they speedrun through that to get to the new stuff. Ideal watch order imo is those first several eps from 2003 and then jump to brotherhood
Having watched all your videos, I did not see this take coming. Then again, I was probably projecting. I'm 37 and played the original when I was 14 or so. I've wanted a remake ever since Sony teased us with that PS3 tech demo, but I wanted it to be more like a remaster. I was OK with all kinds of updates to gameplay, but touching the story was taboo. When I played the demo section of the remake I was ecstatic. _That_ was everything I wanted. Especially the boss fight. But then ghosts started showing up. And Cloud's visions were _advent childreny._ Then Sephiroth started showing up out of turn and talking as if he'd already lived through the original. Hell, he almost seemed aware of our reality and his popularity here. Aerith too. The remake feels worse than a sidequel. It feels like a fanfic. "… and they changed fate and _everyone_ lived! Even Zack!" When I was a kid, the internet (i.e., GameFAQs) was full of fake ways to resurrect Aerith … because a main character dying for good in a JRPG blew our little teenage minds. Yes, it made no sense how Sephiroth appeared outta the blue like villain ex machina and skewered Aerith, but I'll be damned if it wasn't effective! If they'd followed the original story, I'd have even forgiven the boring slow walking sections and the lame ass quests involving chores 😩
Lmao you don't need me to tell you that the nostalgia is gonna be hitting a lot harder for you than for me. Touching the story is always gonna be polarizing. There's no way around that
If a company delists a game to force people to buy the remaster, especially when the remaster is actually inferior, that's when it's morally correct to pirate.
People who hate FF7 remake dont understand why it is even called remake. Its not supposed to be a 1 to 1 remake of the original game. The game is actually a sequel to the original which you figure out as you play it. While you still replay the orginal story beats, the timeline was changed by future Sephiroth, so the events of the OG would change. If you look at the game from the perspective of it being a sequel which isnt supposed to invalidate or replace the the original as some form of definitive edition but rather enforces the OG to still remain relevant, then you can appreciate for what it represents. Alot of things in the ramke make more sense and give you a different experience if you played the OG rather than if you go into it blind. If a new player picks up FF7 remake, there is an incentitive to pick up the OG and play it and then come back to see what changed and why.
I think youre right that FF7R was well within its rights to expand and make additions to the plot, and honestly seeing the entire compilation seamlessly incorporated into the plot, worldbuiliding and character roster would have been the best case scenario. Be that as it may, theres elements of FF7 that I would consider integral to the experience that I think FF7R has basically abandoned. While Kitase himself basically said they didnt think they could do the mystery part of sephiroth anymore because of how iconic he is, in reality all they needed to do was translate the originals perfect execution of this aspect into the new gameplay and engine and they would have been able to maintain this experience for the new audience while still delivering something new to long time fans. Sephiroths characterisation is one of those integral parts and I think regardless of his pop culture status the mystery and power surrounding him should have been maintained. Instead they have irreversibly cucked him by putting him front and centre as well as having you beat him not a quarter of the way through the story. The Kalm flashback where hes in your party and the migar zolom impalement scene cannot realistically have any weight following part 1. The irritating thing about this new characterisation is that it stems from this widespread idiotic obsession with novelty, where everything has to be a subversion or 'fresh' to keep people interested, which is ironic because people want to experience this novelty through nostalgic experiences via remakes. Its pretty ass backwards and isnt a sustainable direction for games to go in. Doesn't matter now, sqenix fanboys and fangirls will happily pay $70 to play the next artificially fluffed entry so they can argue on twitter over which two male characters are definitely gay and a 'canon ship', everything about FF7R just reminds me of Third Birthday, which is to say, Nomura and Kitase have tried to recreate one of Sakaguchi's masterpieces for a modern audience before and it essentially led to the culling of the Parasite Eve franchise, make of that what you will.
Yea, FFVIIR essentially abandons the concept of a remake about halfway through - and especially by the end (on a faithful one at least); with the diversions and changes they make earlier in the game it's basically acting as a meta-commentary on the concept of remakes. And I can see how that can come across as pretentious or needless, and I think an good argument can definitely be made on false-advertising -and I think a good well-realized high budget remake can happen. But as to someone who was disillusioned to the concept of remakes, as "replacements' especially, I was completely down with what they were doing. I am completely down; it's not a remake, it's a re-visit a "new-experience". And I can really see how that can end up still just being a huge dissapointment
@@thatothertypeofstyrofoam4176 While I dont think the writing is good even if you ignore the context its in, i definitely think it would have been better for them to just do a full on meta sequel if thats what they wanted because Im kind of sick of remake culture as well. Main issue is that they wanted to have a big memorable twist by revealing the twist inside a supposed remake and I would argue that at the very least its improper use of the ip to tell a fruitless story but realistically it is more like false advertising on a massive scale. What they should have done is make an expanded remake that is faithful to the original game but expands and includes elements from the compilation, because something of that scope really would have been incredible. Then if they still wanted to do their meta spin off cringe they could have made that into their shitty mobile gacha instead of what theyre currently doing.
So well said. This subversion garbage is outta hand. A remake of such a beloved title like FF7 should absolutely keep the core story and just flesh out what wasn't able to be done w/ the medium at the time. Like greater worldbuilding and character background/development, more backstory. To 'remake' it as they have comes off as hubris that they know better than the OG Sakaguchi.
The REAL problem with the FF7 Remake is that the first disc was exclusively in Midgar. Keep in mind this is a 3 part game. So hyper realism at the cost of the story and gameplay to be cut from the original. Don't expect open world in part 2...
5:52 its funny because bandai took away the fucking discount for people who owned the original dark souls ptde for the remaster. not to mention the remaster was still $20 with the discount, which is not worth it at all considering the lackluster changes they made. DSR should have been free for people who owned PTDE
This is just what happens when budgets balloon. The bigger the budget, the more risk averse the studious become, and the result is remakes or extremely formulaic stuff. It needs to be toned way, WAY down
I fully agree with your FF7 REMAKE take. The game was my first time diving into the whole thing and I found myself enjoying it a lot and it was all of the characters, story and lore that actually convinced me to go and play the original game, play Crisis Core Reunion watch Advent Children and I'm so glad I did. The original was a masterpiece, Crisis Core was great and Advent Children was a fun watch. With the knowledge I've obtained from those 3 within the FF7 compilation, I became even more excited to see what the devs will do with Rebirth and part 3. I understand why many purists are unhappy with REMAKE and I can definitely see the false advertising that SE did with it but in my opinion it's a great add-on to the series. The original is great either way even if REMAKE isn't the 1 for 1 recreation as it still holds up well even almost 3 decades later.
Zeebo I had forgotten all about that console that released in Brazil and Mexico. Good video essay wild you don’t have a lot of subscribers but a great deal of views. Subbing
I've always seen Re-masters and Re-makes as, (Note: Optional being things I don't expect but have happened and/or would be nice) - Re-master: bringing the original back with basically everything updated like, better graphics, sound effects etc. - - Optional: Fix old bugs, quality of life changes, adding small amounts of new content(usually cosmetic like costumes), finishing cut content. - Re-Make: Rebuilding the original game from the ground up with more modern and/or new content, features, mechanics OR making a whole new game out of the original (what FF7 Re-make was) - - Optional: Also finishing and adding cut content from the original, whole new areas that didn't exist, even DLC that expands on some story stuff. One big thing I do with Re-makes specifically is take off those rose-tinted glasses, because it's not supposed to be an exact cookie-cutter game, that's what the Re-master is for. Having played the originals of the big 3 Re-makes (Dead Space, RE4, FF7) and all of them being a huge part of my childhood, they have been absolutely amazing, literally the only issues I've had was VA work for Ada Wong(who takes monotone to a whole new level and sounds nothing like Ada) and Krauser (who sounds like a 14 year old role-playing a hardened military veteran) and gameplay wise, Barrets dodge roll sucking more than everyone else's, which DOES make sense since he's huge but was still kinda annoying during end/post game fights.
They need to be remaking games that today's generation have never had the chance to play or even heard of. They have already started with a remake of System Shock and I hope they follow it up with Ultima Underworld 1 and 2.
I feel we should see more cases like the Metroid Prime Remastered, which looked amazing but was still the same game with a new coat of paint, and that likely isn't taking much time from other developments like on full on remakes, like the RE remakes, which are great but at the same time are not really necessary anymore and they are taking development time away from other potential games from Capcom.
I didn't think RE4 needed a remake immediately and I hope they don't remake RE5 anytime soon. But I do hope they remake Code Veronica because it's still a relic of RE's fixed camera and tank control days. The game continues Claire's mission to find Chris in RE2 and also expands on the rivalry between Chris and Wesker that would definitely be needed for an RE5 remake.
I agree with mostly everything you said except for one thing. While it is true that TLOU1 remake was made to coincide with the TV series, it was also remade with the same technology behind TLOU2 which was a massive step forward in graphical fidelity over the originals. It provides a much more seemless experience now playing Part 1 going into Part 2. Although the game should've been sold for, at the most, $40 since it's missing the multiplayer component. They also could've given a discount to owners of the previous entries. But I digress.
For me, a remake is great if it follows three rules. 1) It expands the plot and improves the gameplay. Preferably with a significant share of new content. 2) It does not replace the original. 3) It is a good game. Are you a casual gamer who wants to play a cult game, but you're afraid of the graphics or the sloppy gameplay? Here's a remake for you. Are you an old fan who has played the original 10 times, but want more? Here's a remake for you, with lots of new content. Are you a radical retro fan? Here's the original, it hasn't disappeared. Are you a real person who wants to play the original and then the remake? You have this opportunity. (Translated with DeepL)
But I think that would have been difficult since FFVII's asthetics have changed since the release of Advent Children, I mean the original FFVII was very cartoony, or should I say anime, don't think Nomura was going for a realistic artstyle, I think that was a reason why the game took so much time to be made, since they had to find a new look more consistent with the spin-offs
Now I'm wondering if Square is planning on remaking previous FF titles, there's some rumors about FFIX remake.
That's not even a remake.

Maybe its good for devs to learn from the past to improve the offerings we get today

@@malicekerendu3574 That's just nonsense. The production of the sequel is going much faster than the first installment.
The first part does feel relatively complete, but yeah, it is annoying to split the original up into three 40+ hour games.
Erm, spoiler it's a sequel not a remake... And I got 80+ hours out of the part 1, part 1, 2 and 3 is gonna be one hell of a session. Remake is a play on words because Sephiroth is remaking history.

the bad games getting released... it can't go on forever, bad reviews do affect a company. scamming people by preordaring will eventually lead to people stopping preordering because they know it's a scam
yea but at least the remakes are good and revitalize interest in the franchises, like dead space might get a new game, silent hill 2 remake brings along new fans so they can make new games, the resident evil games are really good.

I mean the original RE remake does the same thing, every remake does that even movies so I don’t see it as a problem
Idk if Monkey Island SE was meant to replace the original but it practically did
...and so was the 2014 "remaster" already which was just a port of the game on hardware that could actually run it properly.
Are they just going to redo that game every console generation and charge full price for it again and again?
@@PauLtus_Bprobably. I'm personally not a big fan of the game, but because of how many people do, they will port it every single console generation

The middle point of Resident Evil games are coming up for the remakes. Which raises the question: Do we need Remakes for RE 5 and 6?
Those 2 would need BIG reimaginations to actually align with the recent trends of the RE games
@German Empire enjoyer I think they can fix up the mistakes for RE6. Only time to tell.
5 is the only RE game I've played and didn't care much for it so I'm all for seeing what a different approach could look like
I'm hoping for Code: Veronica to be remade next.

@@The_master_watcher The old RE games tank conrols are not that bad tbh..its just muscle memory with those games. Same with Tomb Raider. Play with the Dpad, not the analog sticks.
The gaming industry is creatively bankrupt and needs a crash.
The truth is remakes are OUR obsession, not really the industry's--if we didn't buy them, they wouldn't keep making them.
Don't forget how this will mean Persona 4 is now the most outdated of the three, and despite only getting a PC release a few years ago will probably be remade, making the multiple versions of Persona 5 the most outdated and 😵
It's a mess. How come Dino Crisis wasn't remade instead of Resident Evil 4?

Its a dicey road to begin on. I often times used to equate remasters as being akin to movies going from dvd to high definition. You were getting the same work of art, just upscaled and refined for modern displays. In the case of games that might involve fixing bugs, reconfiguring the prior controls, but as you've illustrated it sometimes goes well beyond that and suddenly words like remake or being thrown into the conversation as well. Then you reach a certain point where the latest release of a certain game, is vastly different from its original iteration. From a historical angle, it creates a headache to say the least when trying to explain to oneself how a series began, to what it is now.
the idea a remake doesn't replace the og I feel is lost on people because of movies and media being harder to keep over time, we don't have libraries and museums for games the way we do for books and history, so people feel that when something new and shiny comes out its replacing the old, when to me you can't replace art simply because once its made that's its version, there are versions of games I like more as remakes like a lot of Pokemon remakes but they don't replace the experience of the OG good or bad
this, new ones DO replace the original in people especially in group bias - why place the old when new shiney version is right there - shows the issue of the gaming industry, nothing lasts like other mediums (books, movies, comics, tv shows) all have better safety nets than gaming does
people always say it doesn't matter cause they are APATHETIC to the issue
@@marcusclark1339 remasters are usually made to replace the old because they're essentially Updates with a price tag, while Remakes people end up thinking are the same because new and shiny but remakes aren't meant to replace but stand aside, hense different events and not being 1 to 1, a one to one remake to me is a remaster because its purpose is to just replace the old like Last of us part 1
Liked and subscribed for that Nomura segment. The scapegoating of the man is getting out of control
I personally was one of the people who bought to the idea that he was butchering the remake with his kingdom hearts history, but after watching this, I am starting to see that the remake is just the way it is because they wanted it to be that way
It’s perfectly fine to dislike the remake, just not a fan of false narratives

As for remakes in general they can be hit or miss, Majora’s Mask 3D made some changes fans didn’t like, Hot Take coming here: Sonic 3D Blast on Saturn is arguably the best version since it has better visuals, new soundtrack and 3D Special Stages, then again you could argue Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on GameCube is great as well, and Sonic is not known for having good remakes and remasters either, see: Sonic Adventure DX, Colors Ultimate and Origins. FF7 Remake was absolutely necessary and I loved it. I think the resident evil games needed remakes too up until 4 because 4 holds up just fine. However mgs3? Really? I'd rather they just remaster it and bundle it with the other mgs games on ps2
You won't believe this (you'd probably believe this)
This video is perfect because I was thinking lately how everyone trashes a certain remake I played.
But my overall experience with RE3R was..."it was alright."
So to me Remakes feel like they have a lot to live up to. So thanks for this!

a big problem is the conditioning big companies do to audience belief something is "outdated". We don't really say old movies (outside of themes or message) are outdated cause they can always be seen again but not games - if its slightly old, its outdated/clunky/retro/weak in graphics/technical hardware - its gaslighting plain and simple
in reality - those old games are as strong as they are because they were made in a era where they had to succeed or fail/flop where now companies release shoddy broken games with mtx, nothing on the disk if even have a disk release, and still somehow homogenous and empty and not worth it
hence their constant today's push of "accessibility" - broad appeal for easy suckers who don't remember how good games used to be and accept the mediocre industry we're currently in with no complaint, hence the buzzwording of it, it isn't good to make for anyone cause that's a game with no direction or passion just a goal of endless money by broad appeal
a good remake is RE1R but no other is as close to as that REmake and show the pointlessness of do it cause trendy til there's none to remake left - what's worse is the older versions never get ported leading only to emulation as the way through
FF7R - in the sense its a poor remake and really can ruin the old one if u didn't play it or know it beforehand as it heavily can screw that plot up
In short - a good game is always timeless, it not being something u like doesn't mean its bad or outdated just means you're more used to modern games "QoL" than older games or just not liking certain genres

But I would like a rdr 1 remake or a Manhunt remake.
It's Rumors about Rocstar working with RDR 1 Remake
Id rather have RDR3 but RDR1 remake is needed with major flaws in the first game.

The critics were like, "Did nothing NEW ever come out between 2018 and 2038??"
Little did they know, the prophecy would come full circle.
Ready Player One feels like a fever dream. I forget that's a real movie

Oshi no Ko in a nutshell
good comparison, but dang, some mangas go so hard that anime just cant compete, like akira.
You can't enjoy 1 thing to fullest if you constantly look at the other side
ayo hunterxhunter had the same issue with the first seasons being rushed because the old anime exists and they really wanted to adapt the new content.

Even Zack!"
When I was a kid, the internet (i.e., GameFAQs) was full of fake ways to resurrect Aerith … because a main character dying for good in a JRPG blew our little teenage minds.

16:02 haha I remember that LONG stairway climb but I dont remember Tifa saying “retard” XD.
The REAL problem with the FF7 Remake is that the first disc was exclusively in Midgar. Keep in mind this is a 3 part game. So hyper realism at the cost of the story and gameplay to be cut from the original. Don't expect open world in part 2...
This aged poorly
ouch…
5:52 its funny because bandai took away the fucking discount for people who owned the original dark souls ptde for the remaster. not to mention the remaster was still $20 with the discount, which is not worth it at all considering the lackluster changes they made. DSR should have been free for people who owned PTDE
Its crazy that people are dead ass serious in calling 2023 one of the best years for gaming, people really will just eat up slop.
Truth. 2004 or maybe 2005 have to be the best years in gaming. So many gems dropped in both those years.
Wow dude you’re so cool and edgy
Subbing
Honestly I think the 7 remake played well but having an entire game taking place in Midgar made the filler so apparent
I've always seen Re-masters and Re-makes as, (Note: Optional being things I don't expect but have happened and/or would be nice)
- Re-master: bringing the original back with basically everything updated like, better graphics, sound effects etc.
- - Optional: Fix old bugs, quality of life changes, adding small amounts of new content(usually cosmetic like costumes), finishing cut content.
- Re-Make: Rebuilding the original game from the ground up with more modern and/or new content, features, mechanics OR making a whole new game out of the original (what FF7 Re-make was)
- - Optional: Also finishing and adding cut content from the original, whole new areas that didn't exist, even DLC that expands on some story stuff.
Cant wait to rewatch this
They need to be remaking games that today's generation have never had the chance to play or even heard of. They have already started with a remake of System Shock and I hope they follow it up with Ultima Underworld 1 and 2.
I feel we should see more cases like the Metroid Prime Remastered, which looked amazing but was still the same game with a new coat of paint, and that likely isn't taking much time from other developments like on full on remakes, like the RE remakes, which are great but at the same time are not really necessary anymore and they are taking development time away from other potential games from Capcom.
>acting as if pirating and emulating a 15-30 year old game is impossible and/or immoral
The 2016 ratchet and clank game is probably one of the best examples how to drastically do a poor remake of an original title
Which is funny cause it was the best selling game in the companies history until spider man ps4
@@rexthewolf3149 what the fuck
I didn't think RE4 needed a remake immediately and I hope they don't remake RE5 anytime soon. But I do hope they remake Code Veronica because it's still a relic of RE's fixed camera and tank control days. The game continues Claire's mission to find Chris in RE2 and also expands on the rivalry between Chris and Wesker that would definitely be needed for an RE5 remake.
Gaming peaked in 2007. There I said it. Everything since then has been a sequel, reboot, or rehash.
I want a Call of Duty remake. A FIFA remake too.
You're right. The gaming industry is on a downward spiral.
It’s an improvement on the ps4 game, there’s no denying that. Woulda been much better received by people (me included) if it wasn’t priced at $70
For me, a remake is great if it follows three rules.

I look at a remake a lot more charitably when the original is also readily available and not being buried by the IP holders
This is exactly why emulators should be embraced by everybody
the tiktok generation will never have the patience, they'd rather play a shit remake only because it's newer, that's all they care about
