It was made by the original creator and his team with best Technoloy at the time and with liberty to do their vision, you can feel that it was made with passion, imagine how could have been Re 4 Remake with these conditions
If it had better characters and voice acting I might have it at a 10, but since both those aspects are pretty weak I have it at like an 8. Gameplay wise (the remastered version without tank controls) it’s pretty close to perfect.
It's crazy how Mikami and his team were responsible for both the greatest third person shooter of all time (OG RE4), and the greatest survival horror game and remake of all time (RE1 remake). Two games with very different design philosophies and yet they both nail everything they set out to do. Capcom Production Studio 4 should have been kept together no matter the costs and every single piece of DNA from those individuals preserved and saved as mankind patrimony. Even the guy that cleaned toilets there must have been some kind of genius.
I agree and disagree I like the RE 1 remake, but I don't think remakes should be a thing anymore soon we won't have the original left to stand on their own intact or played with in 60 years time it's a worry and I hope people stop supporting or buying remakes.
RE1 Remake really is the best example of keeping the vision and soul of the original while adding new things in the best and most unintrusive way possible. I just wish more of the casual younger gamers were willing to give it a chance.
A lot of them did tbf, which is why Capcom went on to see if there was a point to remake 2. With the remakes though, you can tell what they did was make a game that would sell the most. TBF I miss that era of adventure games (be it survival horror or not) with the fixed camera angles. We might see it again in a few indie projects, but man, wish a big studio did a project like this for once.
@@desfefe And most of them are crying for a remake of RE1 utilizing OTS not Fixed camera. Just goes to show they "tried" it, somehow couldn't grasp tank controls and Fixed camera, and thought it sucked. Sadly a sentiment most younger RE fans seems to mindlessly parrot despite indie games having proven it can be done in modern times easily.
@@CommanderRedEXE I mean it wasnt necessarily from those who enjoyed remake enough for remake 2 to come. But of course making a game for mainstream means a few new fans will be made. I dont necessarily hate them for it, I mean in the end their own opinions. But if reremake comes out I will refuse to acknowledge or play it because remake was perfect the way it was. And I do not see a point for it. A new RE game with a similar setting than re 1? Sure why not. Clearly capcom have no ideas left at this point and they are hoping to live off the nostalgia bandwagon.
@desfefe What's worse is many of the new fans thinks RE1R was just a remaster because remake isn't in the name anywhere, which is mainly Capcom's fault. But even then, most arguments I do see for why it needs a new remake basically just boil down to "it needs to be OTS, fixed camera is unplayable". Most of the time they fully admit they won't even try RE1R because they automatically deem the controls and camera to be unplayable. I don't hate the fans, rather the poor arguments they tend to give. Hopefully this clears things up a bit.
The game that set the standard for any remake going forward and it has yet to be topped. REmake is the embodiment of the term, Survival Horror. Every RE remake pales in comparison to this game. There is no need for another remake of RE1, because they already perfected it in 2002.
Wanna know why this is the Best remake ever made? Because the director of the original made it, because the director of the original felt that it could be made better.
They didn't. They claimed they couldn't do more than four limbs on the RE engine. This is the same director who nixed Fixed cameras in RE2R solely because HE hates them, not the Fandom. Tells you how little we actually matter to them, eh?
@Mister_Don888 Yeah. That was the legit excuse last I remember. Something about optimization and such. But honestly I never believed it since we have the interview recording where the director openly admitted to cutting fixed camera angles because, as I said, he personally hates them. That alone honestly says everything that needs said about the creative process of RE2R/RE3R. He didn't have passion for it, nor care what the fans wanted.
In all fairness, I see a lot more people have a phobia of spiders nowadays, especially with how many games opt for having an option to remove them entirely
I couldn't believe this was an actual game when i saw the trailer on my shitty pc in 2002. It was beyond my comprehension how good this, SH2, and Splinter Cell looked. The graphics and physics improved exponentially over the previous gen
I vividly remember being in H.S., having an Xbox, and then trying to decide "Do I get a PS2 or a GameCube?" and the ONLY reason I wanted a GameCube was because of those damn RE exclusives. I got the GameCube.
2002 was an amazing year that's often underated among GOAT years imo , but for me It's a top 5 year.. extremely strong in AA mid budget games and niche franchise games and hidden gems more so than AAAs. It's unassuming till you actually look up the full list of everything that dropped globally in 2002.
I think my favorite thing about the RE1 Remake is that, despite its additions to the canon, there is one thing that's never changed: Barry's "Jill Sandwich" and "Master of Unlocking" lines remain as the canonical interaction between Barry and Jill, even being referenced by Barry and Claire as late as Revelations 2.
True. This is the only Resident Evil Remake, by definition. Everything else from RE2R to RE4R are reimagining’s. That doesn’t make them all bad by default, that’s just how it is.
It's such an easy win for graphics. When the background is just an image (or an animation) with some shadows overlaid ontop, you free up processing power for higher framerate (performance) and higher fidelity character models! RE Remake (and RE Zero) were punching way above their weight in terms of character rendering, to the point that you had character models with 7th-gen (and beyond) quality on a 6th-gen machine. Just compare another beautiful 6th-gen game like MGS3 with those two Residen Evil games - it's actually difficult to believe both of those were from the same generation of machines!
I understand not wanting to see a Zero and Code Veronica remake. But for me, those are the ones I want to see the most. Both games have some very serious flaws in them that could use a second try to smooth them over. Remaking the good ones doesn't do anything for me. Having a different way to play a classic is fine. But that doesn't help the flawed entries, I really hope Capcom remakes them eventually. They could be outstanding games with a bit of love.
CVX and 0, according to what little we know, ARE the most likely choices and 1, again what we know, doesn't seem to be a thought for the current remake lineup.
That'd be a waste of time. The plot, premise, setting, mechanics and characters of those games (specially CV) are absolutely forgettable. There's no point trying to "fix/polish" every mediocre game just cuz they could be better now. A remake should be reserved for games brimming with potential and not just anything that could be improved. You would need to change so much to make them as interesting as the great RE games that you might as well just make a brand new games with a few of the ideas those had.
@FrMZTsarmiral You're being far too harsh. Steve had a decent arc but terrible voice acting. Same for the Ashfords. We know this because Darkside Chronciles did both justice. Billy Coen likewise, was given better writing in Umbrella Chronicles that fixed most of the issues most had. A remake of those two are the best possible choices as 1 already got a remake, 5 and 6 don't really need one, though 5 I could argue either way. Revelations 1 and 2 could use them but that's even less likely than an RE1 Re-Remake.
I agree with thos sentiment, but it's very likely it's kust another Re2make again. I don't expect anything new or innovative if they ever remake it. Code Vetonica is the worst out of all OG re games imo. The game had boring settings and by the number re story which I'm tired of at that point and the worst pacing. I would prefer the story to be completely scrapped at start from scratch. In the end, I would prefer a completely new horror focused RE game.
True, code veronica was decent,in the claire campaign.up until the tyrant plane fight.but I hated the antarctic base level and the chris campaign.plus, there wasn't enough 'scary monsters',like lickers or Mr. X chasing you.down corridors.only the occasional bandersnatcher or zee dogs.i felt the game was a little too slowly paced.and went into a crawl in Antarctica.
During Covid I played through every canon resident evil from 0 - village including the revelations games and I still maintain this remake was the best one to play through. I LOVE the classic gameplay of exploring a thematic haunting area and clearing rooms/solving mysteries with the maps highlighting where there are still discoveries to be made.
The existence of this game compounded by the fact that it was itself re-released in 2015, makes every single one of these embarrassing, modern remake out to be the fraudulent cash grabs, which they are.
@@daveweaver3886 This. Resident Evil 2 Remake...RE3 Remake...RE4 Remake...SH2 Remake. Hell even Crash N Sane Trilogy was not better than the OG Crash 1-3. @@Sonicstillpoint83 “everything new is bad everything from my childhood and that my favorite influencers love is good” is all i can see from people who make comments like this
9:15 Ah, that shot. I remember my first time playing this and standing there, waiting for something to happen. Only to realize, that it isnt a cutscene and I can continue playing : D It was my very first resident Evil title back in the day and Im pretty happy with it. It was such a thick and amazing atmosphere. And I remember when I have seen the Box of the game in the store and wanted to knew what it is all about. So I turned it around to read its back. It only had very few screenshots, a big picture of a Zombie and one small word as description: "Terror³"
I started with Resident Evil 7 and while I very much still enjoy that game it wasn't until I played this that I realized how good this series can be. Peak Resident Evil.
I just recently achievement hunted this game on xbox (with classic tank controls). It really is the most perfect survival horror experience. I wish so badly that we got more games in the fixed camera tank control style. Its unfortunate that gamers turned against it so vehemently at one point, because it does so much for the experience.
It wasn't gamers who turned against it. It was those introduced via RE4 using it an an excuse to claim RE4 is superior. They STILL rely on the "ItS oUtDaTeD" argument despite Tormented Souls proving they're wrong.
Idk. I feel like people got bored of the classic survival horror formula of RE and SH, and we moved to a point where nobody looks back on it as a viable artistic choice because it's "outdated". I think it was a combination of opinions that caused the public to leave tank controls and fixed camera angles in the dust, failing to realize the artistic spark those things added to the experience. I feel like the public became convinced that it was archaic and so we left it behind, and I think that's a real shame. Imagine what could be done in that style with modern technology.
REmake was the only one to not remove anything from the game. All the other ones removed stuff that were in the original games. Re4make added the missing stuff but you had to pay for the Ada dlc.
Well, as we all know, Silent Hill is the story about Harry Mason going into a spooky mansion to find his lost sister Lol, wonder if anyone will get the reference
I still can't believe that there are People who actually want *Another* RE1 Remake.... You can't build up on *Perfection Damn it!!* Edit: Also RE Zero is NOT canon in my Book
I would still consider this the perfect remake. I have been playing this masterpiece since launch day in 2002 and have finished it more times than i can count. It is everything a remake needs to be.
The art direction if re1 remake is what sold me the game, i could stand still and admire the environment for hours. It's also one of the funnest game to speedrun or challenge run (knife only, no save). And for me, dodging zombies is more fun than trying to kill everything, it takes more skill to run past enemies with classic control than attacking. Dodging requires just the right amount of skill that isn't too hard or too easy like staggering zombies in re2make which broke the game. Hope one day, Capcom will make a new horror game with fix camera.
Even though I've heard and agreed with this same argument before the sad reality is that most of the younger gamers as well as the casual gamers aren't into the old survival horror mechanics. The majority of people I've asked about this subject who don't have nostalgia for these games hate tank controllers & fix camera angles. They have told me it's what kept them away from the originals despite the availability of many of these old survival horror games. The sad reality is the RE2 remake is the closest thing to a compromise we can hope for when it comes to AAA games given their large budgets. Indie games really do hold the future for survival horror but I'm honestly surprised we haven't gotten good AA survival horror games yet. The only one I can think of are the Daymare games and I'm not entirely sure those are AA nor do I know if they sold well.
They're also usually hippocrites though. Tormented Souls proved without a doubt their main argument for both, "outdated" is a moot argument that holds no weight. And since that's the only argument most make, we can simply use that game, which is infinitely scarier than RE4R or SH2R, as proof they can't handle real horror. Can you tell I'm tired of bad faith arguments against fixed camera and tank controls?
@@CommanderRedEXE idk, as a diehard classic RE expert (I have beaten real survivor mode with knife only, no save with classic control), Tormented Souls wasn't that good in terms of level design and gameplay. That game nailed the visuals for sure, but it doesn't have the re1make secret sauce. I don't remember anything about the game other than the first wheelchair jump scare, the shitty final boss, and 0 memorable characters, music, puzzles, enemies etc. Signalis has the great story, but gameplay and level design are meh. It could just be my expectation being too high; it could just be that Re1make is the best game ever and no one else could ever top it. Most of the indie survival horror games feels amateurish at best, which is not their fault with limited budget and lack of experience.
most people who play games play them like how most people who say they like music, just listen to radio or the spotify top 50. they don't care to really get into the subject, so anything that demands a modicum of effort is already too much
@dangtiendung4766 Definitely a case of holding RE1R on a pedestal. While I agree it's the peak of survival horror, Tormented Souls is still the closest we've ever gotten to it again. Signalis is in it's own category as there's simply nothing truly comparable to it, but that's not a bad thing either. I agree that the indie games are amateurish. I can only imagine what it would have been like had Tormented had a AAA budget. But we'll likely never truly know as no AAA would dare touch fixed camera angles unfortunately.
I remember when this game was in development i seen screenshots of it in a games magazine and thinking "there's absolutely no way the games looks, or will even look close to this when it comes out!?" Man, was i wrong. This game blew me away. It's the GOAT.
This game is how you do a remake, not the garbage they did with RE2 and RE3. Also, if you go down the dog hall the same way every time the dogs will never break through, it's only if you go through from the other way.
Despite the HD remaster putting up such high sales numbers, there's still some goofballs out there that say nobody wants fixed camera angles and tank controls.
This game i played as a youth and it is in my top 3 games of all time. I have all the achievements on playstation and steam. On steam i literally have over 1k hours on it. I made mods for it. I enjoy it so much. I think re 1 remake is absolutely one of the rare cases of a game being perfect. Perfect in pacing. In gameplay. In presentation. Perfect
To this day, I curse the Nintendo deal Capcom had with this and RE0 at the time. Yes, it made these games look visually superior than they would have had they been on PS2. However, due to the weak sales of these titles at the time, we never got RE2 and RE3 done in the same fashion. It wasn't until early 2015 that RE1R was remastered on multiple platforms that more people were able to play it and I'm sure the sales far exceeded the GameCube version. The remakes we ended up getting for RE2 and RE3 are great games but terrible remakes. I personally don't think RE1R will ever be dethroned as the best RE remake unless by some miracle they bring back Mikami.
I miss the old camera system so much man. Of course it's easier to see with an over the shoulder camera, but I wish Capcom still made any games with the old style.
Agreed. The Uncharted-style OTS view has become generic and boring. It's also veeery restrictive when it comes to the game-design and especially in-game cinematography. With the classic, cinematic camera-angles, the devs can guide the players and conceal data from them as they please. They can build amazing atmosphere by changing the perspective, doing things like making it seem like something's preying you outside the playable area, or by taking the camera far back to portray the scale of your surroundings...and your puny existence within it.
This in my personal opinion is the best re remake because it keeps just about everything but adding new things and not detracting from the experience compared to the other 3 remakes!
It was in late 2001, when I picked up the latest issue of the Computer and Videogames magazine. On the cover, a goofy yet grotesque picture of a zombie man. Headlines gushing about this brand new, upcoming Resident Evil game. Six pages of preview for the REmake. Every picture seemed way too real to be from a video game. Double so from a Nintendo title, seeing how they'd been sort of an underdog for a while now. The jump in quality was INSANE, and the game still holds up extremely well. Not that the OG RE1-3 would be in any way bad to this day, but I know the visuals alone filter some more... superficial folks. To this day, REmake 1 remains as THE blueprint of how to rebuild a classic "retro" game in a loving, masterful way; it was truly a love letter, and a new challenge, from the Mikami's OG team, to the OG RE-fans. It did not REPLACE the OG RE1, but rather used it as a springboard. If you skip the original game, or rather the OG trilogy, you will miss some delicious mind games the devs play on you, and the obvious "WHOA!" effect.
I’ve been playing this game in one form or another for almost 30 years lol seriously. The original hall was scarier. The bight sterile lighting and the booming echo was oddly unsettling. In remake it became Luigi’s Mansion lol but it’s gorgeous and I love it too.
I LOVE those original acted cutscenes with real people, it made the game so real to me as a kid when it came out. This is the one remake where they even make the CGI cutscenes better than the original. Everything about this Remake is better than the original did. I can’t think of any other remake like this, they don’t make em like this anymore
I was out of work in the beginning of 2022. At the time, I decided to return to REmake on my PS5. I already completed Chris and Jill’s campaigns back in 2015 but I never went through the other modes. I then find myself getting the platinum trophy for the game. REmake to me is the greatest Resident Evil. I love this game. I appreciate you making another video on this awesome game Boulder.
I fricking love the camera angle in this game, It's so cinematic! and one of my favorite angle is the stairway to the underground coffin puzzles that leads to the crimson head's first encounter
A joke line for RE:5 Remake. Chris dodges a boulder, while trying to escape the volcano at the end. Jill: "Chris, be careful, you were almost Punched by a Boulder!" Chris: "Seriously, Jill!" Runs through volcano. Also, on Chris playing that Les Paul, let's be honest we all know He is trying to play Bohemian Rhapsody or Mr. Bad Guy. Wouldn't be surprised if he tried to grow a Freddy-mustache at one point either. Only to get clowned on by Barry and Wesker and Rebecca being there to try cheering him up. Jill just trying to get work done in the mayhem.
@@based-ys9umBut that goes to show that they did a good job with the game though. Sure, the OG can always be better, but I wouldn't call the remake bad either. As a game, it's good, as a remake, it's surprisingly well done.
@@martinaguiluz4063 You definitely didn't play the OG SH2 if you call the "remake" a well done remake. It completely misunderstood SH2 and just about every scene and character is worse than the OG. All it shows is that this generation wants fast food, not fine dining
Thanks for this wonderful video. I only played Dino Crisis, Fatal Frame 2 and Kuon back then for "classic survival horror games." I have played other RE games (OG RE4 being my first), but it was only this year when I got into the classic fixed-camera Resident Evil games. This game was my first pick. I struggled a lot despite playing as Jill on Very Easy due to the inventory management. I managed to clear it, but it wasn't until this October 2024 when I finally got into the proper mindset, and I saw myself clearing this game FIVE more times in TWO weeks, working my way from Very Easy, Easy, then Normal for Jill and Chris. In those two weeks I also managed to clear the OG RE1 for both Jill and Chris, which was pretty easy considering I already have a knowledge of the routing thanks to the remake. But as you said, OG RE1 has its own charm. With that said, I'm happy and proud to say that RE1 HD Remaster is what properly got me into the classic style of Resident Evil games. I've come to love this game so much that a part of the Dino Crisis fanboy in me wishes that a Dino Crisis remake would be more like RE1 Remake instead of the more popular over-the-shoulder camera. And yes, Julia Voth is my favorite Jill Valentine. Regina from Dino Crisis however, is still my main squeeze. Again, thanks for making such a wonderful video!
By FAR the most accomplished remake in the history of video games, and i'm interested in many types of games. It's not just the choice of fixed camera angles that nailed it, but also the intense dramatisation and richness of every single one of those.
my only 2 issues with this game 1. I wish they went and added a way to get the canon ending. It could be something as simple as unlocking an electronic lock which allows the character like Barry or REbecca, whoever isn't in the campaign you're playing to get through and then when you make it to the helepad you find them unconcious but alive. No extra dialogue needed. And 2 I wish there was more color as this came out in the age of gray and brown. Otherwise the game is fantastic. Shame the modern remake scouldn't learn to keep more from their originals' counterparts like this one did. And yeah I know this was released at a different time. But my statement is still true.
I see comments saying that even this game needs to be remade and smdh this one is the GOAT. Some people like buying games more than playing games I suppose
Now I want to try a randomizer. Can you imagine encountering the freakin' Tyrant in that tight hallway next to the dressing room, only to squeeze past him and push the cabinet in front of the exit! Thus trapping him for the rest of the game! Oh my god that sounds so cathartic! 😆
I remember watching my friends play the original at the time it was released and having small goes at the game. When I was ill and unable to work for several months I was gifted a PlayStation from a friend, she had Silent Hill but I tracked down Resident Evils 1-3 to add to my collection. The Gamecube remake was amazing and I regularly play the PC remakes. While the others are great games I also think the first is the best. As well as having the nostalgia value it has great atmosphere.
Every resident evil memo Page 1: I cross bred a gorilla with a preying mantis then gave it AK-47's for arms. Bob has been poking it with a stick non-stop for 80 hours now. I hopefully it doesn't escape. Page 2: It escaped.
I was at Jumbo Video when I saw an article on this. Was so excited I ripped it out of the magazine & shoved it in my pocket. Bought a GameCube soon after. Good times!
Really? Just curious. What do you think about the SH2 Remake? Do you think this guy did a good job pointing out the flaws of it or do you think he leaned too much on his bias to the OG game?
Six years. It was only six years between Resident Evil and its remake. And it perfected everything about the original so well that it's the definitive survival horror title, particularly when we're talking about the use of pre-rendered backgrounds. We are now 22 years on since REmake. Could you imagine what a dedicated team of developers could do today? How magnificently creepy and detailed everything could be? It's a shame that too many people have issues with the fixed-angles and tank controls, otherwise we might've seen a new game in this style. It's just too much of a risk to sink money into; studios are worried a game like that won't sell. Imagine if the time and money that went into Concord went into a quality REmake spiritual successor. It probably would've lived longer than 2 weeks and made way more money.
honestly i would gleefully squeal if they remake REmake. doesnt matter if its as iconic or as good as the original honestly. that entire setting and scenario could be remade over and over again and it would still have so much potential to be really entertaining. RE1 is jus so classic it exists as like an ideal form in my brain. i would love to explore the mansion and the grounds in every way imaginable. just hanging out there is so comfy and nostalgic
I recently started playing resident evil remake for the first time, I’ve played resident evil games here and there in the past, when I was a kid I used to play 5,6 and revelations with my cousins and I loved them and ofc I loved 4 but didn’t know much about the ones before, I got resident evil remake for the ps4 when it was free for PlayStation plus but I hated the way it played the controls annoyed me and the camera angles were frustrating(this was back in 6th grade)Now 21 years old, I’ve been wanting to get into resident evil again because of the 4 remake and I haven’t played 2 and 3 remakes either so I said F it, let me start from the beginning and play resident evil remake and I could not be more mad at younger me, this game is phenomenal, the ambiance, music, the sound design, the cinematography, everything this game does, it does right. The way that it that it makes you unsettled through out the whole game, the still air and silence of the mansion, where only your footsteps could be heard has you on edge for what’s to come, making every sound not coming from you even more disturbing and fearful of the shuffling walks and moans of the undead just outside of the camera angle your character is sitting in. This game is a masterpiece and I can go on but I think this is a long enough excerpt.
Great video! This is as good as a remake could get, respecting the original game while also adding a ton of features to make it fresh and exciting. Sadly, the sales figures back then (not helped with the Gamecube exclusivity) were showing that classic RE was long overdue for a clean slate, but we all know what happened after 2005. Good on Capcom for taking it out of Nintendo's umbrella and exposing more people to its greatness, which im sure evolved into the remake-mania we are so used to see nowadays.
I let out a loud audible gasp when the Crimson was coming up the stairs for Becc'a. In all my playthroughs I have never seen that, I suppose as I haven't played the game in decades it could, but back on the Gamecube after countless failures, you develop a "system"...
To this day this is the best remake of any game ever, an example that should (but for some reason is not) followed. You keep what is good, update what is outdated and change what doesnt work (basically, i have not played it in a while). No other remake of RE or remake any other horror game comes even close, not only in quality but in being faithful to the source.
This was my favorite game of all time for a good while. Until Red Dead Redemption came out lol But this is still my favorite in the franchise and my favorite horror game of all time. Nothing nails classic survival horror level design and atmosphere quite like this game. It also just does the best job as a remake by including everything that was in the original, remixing things around enough to keep it fresh, and adding just enough new areas and lore to add to the game and the franchise as a whole without going overboard and just padding the game out It's an absolute masterpiece
it might genuinely be the best video game ever made. It is by far and above the best remake ever done of a game, and is one of the most revolutionary games out there.

The pinnacle of remakes still.
This game is why I hate so many other remakes. THIS is what they should be trying to be
I agree and disagree I like the RE 1 remake, but I don't think remakes should be a thing anymore soon we won't have the original left to stand on their own intact or played with in 60 years time it's a worry and I hope people stop supporting or buying remakes.
@@CommanderRedEXE
I mean it wasnt necessarily from those who enjoyed remake enough for remake 2 to come.
@@CommanderRedEXE well said
The game that set the standard for any remake going forward and it has yet to be topped. REmake is the embodiment of the term, Survival Horror. Every RE remake pales in comparison to this game. There is no need for another remake of RE1, because they already perfected it in 2002.
Still the Gold Standard of Remakes/REmakes.
Wanna know why this is the Best remake ever made? Because the director of the original made it, because the director of the original felt that it could be made better.
I honestly don't understand why you'd remove spiders for being too scary in a horror game
They didn't. They claimed they couldn't do more than four limbs on the RE engine.
This is the same director who nixed Fixed cameras in RE2R solely because HE hates them, not the Fandom.
Tells you how little we actually matter to them, eh?
@@CommanderRedEXE An engine not being able to do four limbs? wtf?
@Mister_Don888 Yeah. That was the legit excuse last I remember. Something about optimization and such.
But honestly I never believed it since we have the interview recording where the director openly admitted to cutting fixed camera angles because, as I said, he personally hates them.
That alone honestly says everything that needs said about the creative process of RE2R/RE3R. He didn't have passion for it, nor care what the fans wanted.
In all fairness, I see a lot more people have a phobia of spiders nowadays, especially with how many games opt for having an option to remove them entirely
Spiders are much scarier than the bodies of the dead being reanimated into bloodthirsty bullet sponges.
Yeah and IMHO to this day we still haven’t seen a generational leap like that one
2002 was an amazing year that's often underated among GOAT years imo , but for me It's a top 5 year.. extremely strong in AA mid budget games and niche franchise games and hidden gems more so than AAAs. It's unassuming till you actually look up the full list of everything that dropped globally in 2002.
Completely agreed RE1R should be the standard all remake strive to achieve.
I feel like the first zombie in OG Resi doesnt get enough credit: he takes 3 magnum shots from Barry, and still walks away!
I think my favorite thing about the RE1 Remake is that, despite its additions to the canon, there is one thing that's never changed:
Barry's "Jill Sandwich" and "Master of Unlocking" lines remain as the canonical interaction between Barry and Jill, even being referenced by Barry and Claire as late as Revelations 2.
Taking an on the clock work poop and this comes out. They won’t see me for the next 44 minutes
real as hell
The company makes a dollar, I make a dime, thats why I take sh**s on company time
True. This is the only Resident Evil Remake, by definition. Everything else from RE2R to RE4R are reimagining’s. That doesn’t make them all bad by default, that’s just how it is.
Still looking better than most games.
Fixed Camera is such a gem when used right.
Especially when it comes to horror.
Still the golden standard for remakes.
The atmosphere in this game is easily the best in the series for me
This game holds up visually insanely well for a 20+ year old game.
Played this for the first time about 2 years ago after getting obsessed with the RE franchise. The atmosphere in this game is really special.
The existence of this game compounded by the fact that it was itself re-released in 2015, makes every single one of these embarrassing, modern remake out to be the fraudulent cash grabs, which they are.
Modern remakes are all flash and flair with no substance.

Ah, that shot.
I remember my first time playing this and standing there, waiting for something to happen.
Only to realize, that it isnt a cutscene and I can continue playing : D
It was my very first resident Evil title back in the day and Im pretty happy with it. It was such a thick and amazing atmosphere.
And I remember when I have seen the Box of the game in the store and wanted to knew what it is all about.
So I turned it around to read its back.
It only had very few screenshots, a big picture of a Zombie and one small word as description:
"Terror³"
I did the same with James in the bathroom in SH2. Crazy how that generation transformed game graphics and physics.
Achievement hunted?
Did you need to do the invisible enemies mode for every achievement? If so well done because that sounds like a nightmare.
@@monkaWGiga No. You just have to beat that mode once I think.
I shall raise a glass to my fellow Resident Evil Remake appreciator.
Currently going through the OG Trilogy thanks to GOG. I do hope they eventually release this title to that store too.
Likely won't. It's on Steam though.
REmake was the only one to not remove anything from the game. All the other ones removed stuff that were in the original games. Re4make added the missing stuff but you had to pay for the Ada dlc.
i also hope they dont remake the remake. the game is already perfect.

still one of the best examples on how to Remake a beloved classic… not even RE4 remake beats it, it’s so good that outright replaced the original 😅
REmake will never be topped for what it did. OG PS1 release and Remake are only 6 years apart, just wild.
These people are pussies.
Resident evil remake is best remake ever.

One of the best games ever and imo the greatest remake ever

That first play through were we all thought we beat the game on hard but it was normal. Heartbreaking!
RE 2-RE 4 Remakes were disappointments, especially RE 2 Remake. ReMake is still the greatest remake of all time, and it isn't even close.

I replay this game at least once a year and my god its perfect

1:59 We do know the story by now, but we still love hearing it.
I let out a loud audible gasp when the Crimson was coming up the stairs for Becc'a. In all my playthroughs I have never seen that, I suppose as I haven't played the game in decades it could, but back on the Gamecube after countless failures, you develop a "system"...
Awesome video, as always!
Until Red Dead Redemption came out lol
But this is still my favorite in the franchise and my favorite horror game of all time. Nothing nails classic survival horror level design and atmosphere quite like this game. It also just does the best job as a remake by including everything that was in the original, remixing things around enough to keep it fresh, and adding just enough new areas and lore to add to the game and the franchise as a whole without going overboard and just padding the game out
It's an absolute masterpiece
What is laugh out loud about your comment?
@@jarlwhiterun7478That's for me to know and you to find out
gawd i miss this game
I wish we'd get this exact treatment for a Dino Crisis Remake in the future...
My childhood 💜 Both the original and the remake!
it might genuinely be the best video game ever made. It is by far and above the best remake ever done of a game, and is one of the most revolutionary games out there.
