I'm not a furry and I don't fully understand being a furry, but I genuinely have a great respect for the fandom and what I've witnessed from it. You guys are really good with policing your own community and shutting down any toxic people or mindsets. Whenever I see furries being bullied by others in the fandom you guys are so quick to offer support and encouragement for the victim. I wish I could say the same for every fandom. I hope you guys continue to make your community a positive space for everyone.
Well for starters the concept looks easy... First you find an animal that you like... Dog, cat, lion, wolf, mouse, rat, even birds...And dragon too... Then the idea is to try and draw a cartoony looking animal with human parts. Then as for the costume you will need to try and morph the parts of the drawing into real life materials... Foam, Fabrics, Plastics, Paper Mache, Metal Wires.... You can also use the Art that has already been made to look for ideas on how to draw something that can be used for the Fandom in general.... The best thing you can do though is not show the art to others because then you will be accused of "stealing art" Which in reality makes no sense since many of the Fursuits being created have the same Neon Color schemes and Round Shapes.... The best thing you can do is go for your addition to the Furry Fandom is to create a Fursona that does not look like the typical ones seen already... BUT if that is the kind of Furry you like and want to have then that is okay too.
Then what is it? I myself am new to the fandom, but from what I’ve seen it’s easier to explain by starting with creating an animal character to express yourself.

I'm 12 and I really want a fursuit. Preferably, I would want to make my own, but I just don't have the right materials yet. My grandma knows how to sew, and I'm sure that she can teach me how to sew. If I do end up making fursuits, I won't let anyone push me down, no matter how rude they are. I will keep going and prove to them that everyone can get better. Love your videos! Pikaaja You should still try to make your own! Learning and practicing at a young age is very beneficial. Even if you do grow out of it, I’m sure you’ll have an even better one!
If you're a beginner furry ( Such as myself ), I'd reccomend Mugiwara cosplay. I think her tutorials are great. They're helping me on my way to having a fursuit. ^w^
I agree! I have been making suits for around 2 years now and I have used Mugiwara's tutorials from the start to this day. She does real well simplifying the steps so that you would know what to do as well as have room to find your own style as working through it. If you are starting off and you are confused or lost I recommend her too. I wish you luck on your fursuit making journey, reader!

I can sign that with 5y wait time, a second option to get a pro maker's suit is going to the 2nd hand market, but the suit won't as personal as a commissioned one.
Hey Pocari Roo, I'm watching you since a Month or something like that. You inspired me, to make a redesign from one of my first Characters, that I drew years ago. And now I was planing to start to make a Fursuite on my own. I was realy struggeling if it is a good idea, to make it by my own... What will the others think, what when it havn't the "Standards" maybe the others don't accept me ... I just thought on quitting, wait untill I got enought money and go to a good fursuite maker. Then I saw this Video. Your words motivate me to go on! I want to make it by my own, for you and for me, and maybe for the Fandom. So I realy want to thank you, for what u do for us! When I found the fandom, I made a dog fursuit with you know, fursuit stuff like tape and I was so excited and wore it to a con and people said “ew, is that a fursuit?” “Who made that? A 2 year old?!” “Tf is that lol” and I got really sad so I went to my room, with my head still on, a worker came by and said “wait, did you make that? It looks awesome!” I said thank you and he went off to clean the other rooms.

I like to think that the furry fandom is one of the most chill and accepting fandoms. Yeah we have a few quirks but hey! Nobody’s perfect! So I think us fluffs did a pretty darn good job👌

To be honest it went terrible! But I learned so so much on my first try that I can’t wait to give it another shot. I learned so much in fact that I even learned what animal truly speaks to my heart
@@fluffypup6506 i just started too. My first one is falling apart and looks like a poop. My dumbass used cardboard for the base. Attempt 2 is made out of foam and proper furred. And it doesnt look scary. I belive we all fail the first time. Keep trying 👍
I got a Commission from a amateur first suit maker and I was not disappointed it actually was pretty good quality which is why we should give people hey chance
I think that what people call "bad fursuits" isn't really a bad fursuit. Unless its a rip off one from websites like aliexpress. Anyways, those "bad" fursuits are the learning experience for some people. I haven't made a fursuit YET but i will soon
Ohh man, I've been suit shamed before XD I made a head of my sona 3 times. I'm not ashamed to call them bad since I made em myself. But creating something like that is hard, it takes a lot of patience. My first one was mostly made out of cardboard and fleece.....and I struggled to breathe in that thing LOL My third now looks a lot better but I'm still learning. And I already ordered some fur swatches so I can try to find the right colors for a bodysuit. I would love to make more fursuits someday. I love seeing other new fursuit makers! If you want to try your hand at making your character come to life, do it. Do not be afraid of what jerks think. Any type of art takes patience and practice, and a little pain (hot glue burns, ow) Tutorials are awesome! And I recommend finding out your budget before commissioning or buying your own materials. We all start at the bottom at some point, Don’t give up! Trust me, about a little more than a year ago I would have never considered drawing head shots of my fursona. Am I still learning? Yes, but that’s the greatest thing about starting.

Damson Wine I tried to make my chachter as a fursuit but I cut open my finger (it still ferking hurts!!) and now my mom won't let me finish is it! And she threw it away! it was only the left paw but I was going to make a 4ft full thing!!! So now the only hope for a fur suit is to ask fur suit creators to make my character but yes right one person would make a free fur suit for an 11 year old ;-; someone plz halp ;-;
I'm sorry to hear that your project didn't end well, and I hope your finger gets better! Everyone, even pro fursuit makers have cuts and burns from suit work! Don't give up though! Ask your parents for help, ask them to help you sew, or maybe you'll just have to wait until later. But please don't give up!

In my experience when i made my first fur suit i didn’t like it that much and i thought it was kind of ugly and i was scared i would get made fun of. Then i got hundreds of comments saying it was amazing and for my first it was good and i was good at fur-suit making! So I made a second one that was way better and now jm thinking about making a website because so many people want a suit from me! so i would like to thank you pocari because you are one of the first furries i found on youtube and a partial inspiration for me to have made a first suit because i thought yours was cute and was inspired to make a cute suit to so a big thanks to you and the furry fandom!
I'm a furry, but still haven't told anyone. my parents and siblings hate anyone different, and sometimes won't let me hang out with my friends because they watch horror movies, or like a certain genre of music or whatever. one of my best friends is gay and my parents won't allow me to talk to him anymore. how do i tell them I'm a furry when they'll probably kick me out of the family?

Which most people are so scared and you need to have confidence in yourself and you have to leap for it sometimes. I know hate legit hurts, and it sucks, not to mention how annoying it is, but after a while who cares? People are people and some are going to be jerks, but that's when you just don't pay attention and keep pushing on, and in the end, It will all have been worth it on having a great skill and amazing suit. Never let people get you down. Edit: I myself have actually been thinking about attempting at making my own suit (Mostly the head and feet along with sleeves) and this indeed did sort of boost my confidence quite a bit, my own best friend Mocha has attempted to make a head 2 times and they actually looked great especially for a first time. (I need to go show her this video now) But, just thank you, Pocari. Not only this video, but like 20 of your other videos along with this one have helped me so much, and it's great to know there are people in the furry fandom and just people in general that are like you, and honestly. I’ve never been to a con though I have worn my furry head on my way to the bus at school☹️ I had some 13yr olds try and rip my head off,my fursuit head not my real one, it made me cry... I was peeved and the character I was wearing at the time was my first version of Sabor The Husky. I made sabor myself with lots of hard work and time put into him! I was sad and distraught over the fact some group of boys were laughing and calling me ugly and creepy and just being a bunch of jerks😥 I’m glad ur covering this situation and hope the ppl that have the expensive and special fursuits that like hating on other ppl understand our pain. I would really like to figure out how to make suits, but I'm afraid I'm going to spend a bunch of money practicing and end up dropping it... I've started making some puffypaws according to SparkyCanDo's tutorial designed like our school mascot, and I plan to use them as gloves in the winter, and that's the only reason my mom's letting me make them. She thinks all fursuits are only for sexual purposes and I just can't convince her otherwise.
Just adding something to this, I've recently started my own suit, and used Sparky's tutorial, one thing Id advice if you can do it is to not used the foam glued mittens once your done. Line the paws and stuff them instead, since foam will deteriorate if you wash it. There's a tutorial for lining paws somewhere on here, and it'll make it so your paws can be washed and last longer. I hope your mom learns about the other side of the fandom ^^ sucks to have parents that way
get your mum to watch some fur tubers ideos on this subject. especially the bottle episode and somebody else did one about murrsuits. just show her the otherside by giving her the videos too watch. make sure you watch the vid first so there arent any surprises. :)
You should show her some videos of fursuiters such as even this one. There is no way she can think every fursuiter is a Murrsuiter, just educate her using some good videos of fursuiters. :)
You can tell her its just a rogue mascot of someone's or your own character, like a cosplay. Or like other people said, show her youtube videos of the community, some suiters even do charity and visit childrens hospitals. How could she be against that?

I was going to buy a lavafox suit but people are making fun of people buying from lavafox calling them "young furs". Because of that I wanted to make my own. thank you thank you thank you, cringe pages are so so hurtful, and are killing our fandom, everyone starts somewhere and some people are more talented then others but that doesn't mean the less talented can't still be amazing in the future. I made my first suit, yea it's not amazing but it's mine, I worked so hard, burnt my fingers with hot glue, spent lots of money and sure my stitches are messy, I shaved the fur a little to close in places but I still love it and love wearing it, and I was afraid to wear it at my first con but when I finally did I got so much positive feed back and encouragement it made me feel so good and encouraged me to keep trying, and this is what the fandom should be about, everything takes time and practice, from suits to art!
Watching this while making my 6th(?) Suit and have improved immensely over the last two years. Fursuit making takes time. You won't suddenly be good over night. Take your time and don't rush. Accept that you may need help and thats okay! You've got this
A while ago I had declared I was a furry. I had gotten so much hate from my family online and friends from my art (that I haven’t even shown them.) That had made me give up on even wanting to start fursuit making and just quit the fandom. Fast forward a couple months, (now), I’ve realized I’ve been sad, secretly watching these videos and doing no art when everything is right there I’m the back of my mind. @@Eeldino dude cordboard fursuits are dangerous. you can easily get sweaty in fursuits. sweat=liquid. when liquid touches cardboard it can create mold. if you inhale mold it can be really dangerous.
For anyone in the comments who are making their first suit: I wish you so well! Please don’t let anyone tear you down. Every suit is cute and amazing in there own way. I hope you love the outcome and you have fun wearing it or seeing someone else in your suit. It’s art, and almost no one starts out with a gorgeous masterpiece that could be in an art museum, so no one should be hating on you for making “bad” fursuits. I love you and even though I haven’t seen it, I know I love your new suit because I love every suit because it comes from your heart and deep mind.

I’ve actually took a shot at making a full digi suit during the lockdown and after months of hand sewing and going online for tutorials it came out nice and I got a few good compliments for my work they asked who made it and I told them I made it they were surprised

HOOOLLLYYYY DAMNBALLS this is such a confidence high. I was the first commission for a maker close to me and they were so lovely throughout the whole thing. Yes, I've experienced some hate, and yes there are FAR better looking suits, although I don't regret it for a second. Besides, the maker was brave enough that when I asked "So, LEDs in the hair?" they only went and did it and it's frickin' AMAZING!! I got to support a maker who is first of GENUINELY lovely, local to me and who invited me along every step of the way to make sure I was as happy with things as I could be to the point where I've developed a deep interest in fursuit building myself though I'm so terrified to start. Ordered tools and materials earlier today, and stumbled upon this and I couldn't be happier. Geniunely cried happy tears, thank you so much

My first suit was bad. I rushed a lot and had no idea what I was doing. One of the main reasons why I rushed is because my freind was makeing there own and I wanted to do the same. Recently however I made a second one and so far I’m really proud of it I’ve got a lot of compliments and all I need to do is add the fur
I want to thank you for this video because this gave me a lot of encouragement knowing that there are people out there who will help me make that first step into fursuit making and wanting a commission from me. My boyfriend actually commissioned me to make his first suit and this is only my second suit that I am making. I do feel very encouraged and excited to make this suit because I learned from so many and I mean SOOO many mistakes from my first suit and I feel 100x more confident in making this suit than I did mine. I agree with commissioning from makers who are just starting out. I also agree that people want to commission from very popular makers. The solution? Commission your lesser characters from the newer makers, then wait to have your main fursona commissioned by Phoenix Nest or someone. (Lol, this makes no sense. K bye)

There is absolutely nothing cringy about getting emotional over a prized possession like a fursuit. For a lot of people they become more than just a suit and really let out that happy side of theirs ;)

Look at that first suit in 2008. It took them 8 YEARS to get to the level they are now. There's no way anyone could have predicted how far they'd go with that first suit. So never judge a maker because they're new or amateur, they could be a god tier maker in a few years!!

I'm not a furry and I don't fully understand being a furry, but I genuinely have a great respect for the fandom and what I've witnessed from it. You guys are really good with policing your own community and shutting down any toxic people or mindsets. Whenever I see furries being bullied by others in the fandom you guys are so quick to offer support and encouragement for the victim. I wish I could say the same for every fandom. I hope you guys continue to make your community a positive space for everyone.
Well for starters the concept looks easy... First you find an animal that you like... Dog, cat, lion, wolf, mouse, rat, even birds...And dragon too... Then the idea is to try and draw a cartoony looking animal with human parts. Then as for the costume you will need to try and morph the parts of the drawing into real life materials... Foam, Fabrics, Plastics, Paper Mache, Metal Wires....
You can also use the Art that has already been made to look for ideas on how to draw something that can be used for the Fandom in general.... The best thing you can do though is not show the art to others because then you will be accused of "stealing art" Which in reality makes no sense since many of the Fursuits being created have the same Neon Color schemes and Round Shapes....
The best thing you can do is go for your addition to the Furry Fandom is to create a Fursona that does not look like the typical ones seen already... BUT if that is the kind of Furry you like and want to have then that is okay too.

I'm 12 and I really want a fursuit. Preferably, I would want to make my own, but I just don't have the right materials yet. My grandma knows how to sew, and I'm sure that she can teach me how to sew. If I do end up making fursuits, I won't let anyone push me down, no matter how rude they are. I will keep going and prove to them that everyone can get better. Love your videos!

Pikaaja You should still try to make your own! Learning and practicing at a young age is very beneficial. Even if you do grow out of it, I’m sure you’ll have an even better one!

If you're a beginner furry ( Such as myself ), I'd reccomend Mugiwara cosplay. I think her tutorials are great. They're helping me on my way to having a fursuit. ^w^

I agree! I have been making suits for around 2 years now and I have used Mugiwara's tutorials from the start to this day. She does real well simplifying the steps so that you would know what to do as well as have room to find your own style as working through it.

This happens to every aspiring artist, they’ll get people that put them down if they aren’t talented from the start but that’s not how it works, you have to work at art to getting better.
Another pro is the wait time. Popular makers often have months or years on their list already booked!

When I found the fandom, I made a dog fursuit with you know, fursuit stuff like tape and I was so excited and wore it to a con and people said “ew, is that a fursuit?” “Who made that? A 2 year old?!” “Tf is that lol” and I got really sad so I went to my room, with my head still on, a worker came by and said “wait, did you make that? It looks awesome!” I said thank you and he went off to clean the other rooms.

I think that what people call "bad fursuits" isn't really a bad fursuit. Unless its a rip off one from websites like aliexpress.

Ohh man, I've been suit shamed before XD I made a head of my sona 3 times. I'm not ashamed to call them bad since I made em myself.
But creating something like that is hard, it takes a lot of patience. My first one was mostly made out of cardboard and fleece.....and I struggled to breathe in that thing LOL
My third now looks a lot better but I'm still learning. And I already ordered some fur swatches so I can try to find the right colors for a bodysuit.
I would love to make more fursuits someday.

And she threw it away! it was only the left paw but I was going to make a 4ft full thing!!! Since going to my college, I fell in love with our mascots and they’re honestly pretty close if they aren’t already, fursuit quality. So I decided I wanted to make my own based off them

In my experience when i made my first fur suit i didn’t like it that much and i thought it was kind of ugly and i was scared i would get made fun of. Then i got hundreds of comments saying it was amazing and for my first it was good and i was good at fur-suit making! I'm a furry, but still haven't told anyone. my parents and siblings hate anyone different, and sometimes won't let me hang out with my friends because they watch horror movies, or like a certain genre of music or whatever. one of my best friends is gay and my parents won't allow me to talk to him anymore. how do i tell them I'm a furry when they'll probably kick me out of the family?

I've never heard something so true. Like dude, quality comes with time, patience, and hard work. Which most people are so scared and you need to have confidence in yourself and you have to leap for it sometimes. I know hate legit hurts, and it sucks, not to mention how annoying it is, but after a while who cares? People are people and some are going to be jerks, but that's when you just don't pay attention and keep pushing on, and in the end, It will all have been worth it on having a great skill and amazing suit. Never let people get you down.
Edit: I myself have actually been thinking about attempting at making my own suit (Mostly the head and feet along with sleeves) and this indeed did sort of boost my confidence quite a bit, my own best friend Mocha has attempted to make a head 2 times and they actually looked great especially for a first time. (I need to go show her this video now) But, just thank you, Pocari. Not only this video, but like 20 of your other videos along with this one have helped me so much, and it's great to know there are people in the furry fandom and just people in general that are like you, and honestly. I would really like to figure out how to make suits, but I'm afraid I'm going to spend a bunch of money practicing and end up dropping it... I've started making some puffypaws according to SparkyCanDo's tutorial designed like our school mascot, and I plan to use them as gloves in the winter, and that's the only reason my mom's letting me make them. She thinks all fursuits are only for sexual purposes and I just can't convince her otherwise.
Just adding something to this, I've recently started my own suit, and used Sparky's tutorial, one thing Id advice if you can do it is to not used the foam glued mittens once your done. Line the paws and stuff them instead, since foam will deteriorate if you wash it. There's a tutorial for lining paws somewhere on here, and it'll make it so your paws can be washed and last longer.
I hope your mom learns about the other side of the fandom ^^ sucks to have parents that way

get your mum to watch some fur tubers ideos on this subject. especially the bottle episode and somebody else did one about murrsuits. just show her the otherside by giving her the videos too watch. make sure you watch the vid first so there arent any surprises. :)
You should show her some videos of fursuiters such as even this one. There is no way she can think every fursuiter is a Murrsuiter, just educate her using some good videos of fursuiters. :)
You can tell her its just a rogue mascot of someone's or your own character, like a cosplay. Or like other people said, show her youtube videos of the community, some suiters even do charity and visit childrens hospitals. How could she be against that?

When it comes to cringe pages, I often brows them to see what the 'bad' costumes could have improved on, and in turn I take that into account when drafting my own. Granted, my first head (and only finished one) is shit, but I'm learning from that with my next one.

thank you thank you thank you, cringe pages are so so hurtful, and are killing our fandom, everyone starts somewhere and some people are more talented then others but that doesn't mean the less talented can't still be amazing in the future. I made my first suit, yea it's not amazing but it's mine, I worked so hard, burnt my fingers with hot glue, spent lots of money and sure my stitches are messy, I shaved the fur a little to close in places but I still love it and love wearing it, and I was afraid to wear it at my first con but when I finally did I got so much positive feed back and encouragement it made me feel so good and encouraged me to keep trying, and this is what the fandom should be about, everything takes time and practice, from suits to art!
Watching this while making my 6th(?) Suit and have improved immensely over the last two years. Fursuit making takes time. You won't suddenly be good over night. Take your time and don't rush. Accept that you may need help and thats okay! You've got this

A while ago I had declared I was a furry. I had gotten so much hate from my family online and friends from my art (that I haven’t even shown them.) That had made me give up on even wanting to start fursuit making and just quit the fandom. Fast forward a couple months, (now), I’ve realized I’ve been sad, secretly watching these videos and doing no art when everything is right there I’m the back of my mind. Just because of this video, I think I’m going to start to work my way up into more designs and artwork, psh maybe even start fursuit making?When I first joined the fandom that was the first thing I had wanted to do!! Me too I'm 10 and I have 2 cardboard fursuits because I can't afford foam and fluffy fabric how to make a fursuit I guess it's just a cardboard suit xD
@@Eeldino dude cordboard fursuits are dangerous. you can easily get sweaty in fursuits. sweat=liquid. when liquid touches cardboard it can create mold. if you inhale mold it can be really dangerous.

For anyone in the comments who are making their first suit: I wish you so well! Please don’t let anyone tear you down. Every suit is cute and amazing in there own way. I hope you love the outcome and you have fun wearing it or seeing someone else in your suit. It’s art, and almost no one starts out with a gorgeous masterpiece that could be in an art museum, so no one should be hating on you for making “bad” fursuits. I love you and even though I haven’t seen it, I know I love your new suit because I love every suit because it comes from your heart and deep mind.

I’ve actually took a shot at making a full digi suit during the lockdown and after months of hand sewing and going online for tutorials it came out nice and I got a few good compliments for my work they asked who made it and I told them I made it they were surprised

HOOOLLLYYYY DAMNBALLS this is such a confidence high. I was the first commission for a maker close to me and they were so lovely throughout the whole thing. Yes, I've experienced some hate, and yes there are FAR better looking suits, although I don't regret it for a second. Besides, the maker was brave enough that when I asked "So, LEDs in the hair?" they only went and did it and it's frickin' AMAZING!! I got to support a maker who is first of GENUINELY lovely, local to me and who invited me along every step of the way to make sure I was as happy with things as I could be to the point where I've developed a deep interest in fursuit building myself though I'm so terrified to start.

I'm a new maker and my suit looks okay, it's not PROFESSIONAL level, but I'm proud of him. The only draw back is I can't see,,, his visions terrible I made the eyes too small. I have to fix it but idk if I'll have time before Anthrocon x_x

My first suit was bad. I rushed a lot and had no idea what I was doing. One of the main reasons why I rushed is because my freind was makeing there own and I wanted to do the same. I want to thank you for this video because this gave me a lot of encouragement knowing that there are people out there who will help me make that first step into fursuit making and wanting a commission from me. My boyfriend actually commissioned me to make his first suit and this is only my second suit that I am making. I do feel very encouraged and excited to make this suit because I learned from so many and I mean SOOO many mistakes from my first suit and I feel 100x more confident in making this suit than I did mine. I agree with commissioning from makers who are just starting out.
I also agree that people want to commission from very popular makers.
The solution?
Commission your lesser characters from the newer makers, then wait to have your main fursona commissioned by Phoenix Nest or someone.

little miss bitch They get criticized for it because that's not what fursuits were made for. There's a large difference in purpose between the two, and fursuits are made for expressing yourself and/or your character. Not that.
To be p e r f e c t l y honest fursuits + s*x sounds like a hot, sweaty gross mess, maybe some like that but I personally like not having a heat stroke in a giant animal costume?
