Pokerstars 83% Cash Back @ Rakeback.com goo.gl/mSY4fh Daniel Negreanu and Joe Hachem agree to run it twice when they get it all in preflop with AA v TT.
I actually miss this show. This was a good show, and throwing in the online player and giving him the profits off of 100k. Genius idea. That's what made this show great. Also the big name players.
In cash games, players have a lot of latitude to make up rules on the fly. When players go all-in, or when there are very large stakes, it's common to agree to run the hand more than once, to prevent a single bad beat from wiping somebody out.
They had two runs because at 3:42 Hachem asked Negreanu if twice is good, meaning they're going to run it twice. When one player is all in, and theres 2 people in the pot, they can agree to run it x number of times, and split the pot x ways depending on the outcome
david m Short answer: Reduces variance when you're playing for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Long Answer: Aces hold up against tens twice in a row .8 x .8 = .64, 64% of the time, so most of the time he'll still be winning both, but doesn't lose a huge amount of money to a lucky card here and there, because tens only win twice .2 x .2 = .04, 4% of the time. The other 32% of the time, they chop it, so it's better for aces to do this to reduce variance in the long run.
What bosoxnation said. He thought Daniel might've had AK and was already invested. Plus the commentators mentioned he might've been frustrated due to a lack of action and being forced to lay down some big hands earlier
in cash games, the players can run the board as many times as they like as long as that number is mutually agreed upon. Sometimes they'll run it as many as 4 times with each run being worth the same proportion of the pot. So in this case since they're running it twice, each run is worth 50% of the pot. Usually this is done to protect bad beats for the hand in the lead and also give the hand that is behind more of a chance to hit.
In a heads up match, when one of the players goes all in and gets called the other player can give them the option of running the board twice. This means that they run the board normally and then they use the same deck to deal the board again. The benefit of running it twice is seeing more cards, increasing your chance to win. If one player wins both boards, he wins the pot. If the players each win one, they chop.
No, and she also did't put the cards from the first line back into the deck for the second go. That's why Negreanu asked for the 4th 10 to come in the first line. The dealer also burns cards before the second flop, turn and river btw.
Around 5:15 why does Seiver say the 7 of clubs is better than the 9 of clubs? The 9 gives hachem an open ended straight draw, 4 more outs. Isn't that right?
In cash games, players are given the option to "run it twice", meaning deal the flop, turn and river twice. People do it to reduce the amount of variance (meaning if someone sucks out and you run it twice or more, the best hand can still win a percentage of the pot). It's also done to keep the game friendly, give bad hands a chance to split. For hands that are ahead, it's like taking insurance. For hands that are behind, it's like being given a second chance.
In cash games, especially in high-stakes poker like the Big Game, it is common for players in an all-in heads-up match to "run the board" more than once. This means that the community cards will be dealt as many times as agreed upon by the two players, with each run being worth a proportional amount of the pot. If the cards are ran twice, each run is worth half, three time and each run is worth a third, etc. In this case, since Hachem went all-in and Daniel called, they agreed to run the cards twice. This gave both players more opportunity to win and prevent either of them from being wiped out by a single bad run.
@mrkiky Not necessarily. The agreement is made once somebody goes all in and one (and only one) other person calls. Then the two players still in the hand can decide how many times they want to run the remaining streets, ie if the river is the only card left to come, then that is the only street that will be run more than once. I hope this explanation helps.
@QuickNick180 It's not just a blind bet. In most cash games it has to be at least double the big blind, possibly more (players usually all consent to the amount of the straddle). The important thing is that it gives you the option to raise if the big blind checks. Some games I've played in the UTG +1 was allowed to 'double straddle', +2 could triple straddle and so on. It can get quite out of hand....
I am playing poker for quite long time , and I did some calculations , I would change poker rules of hold em no limit , to this one : If there is all in and call , and no card on the board , or if there is flop on the board , or even turn , and if they have stacks going on the river , nothing is changed. If they go all in or rest of the chips and no more betting can occur , run the remaining cards 4 times. Example : All in preflop , if the remaining cards in deck allows - run 3 times on board. If flop showed , run turn and river 4 more times. If the river is only to come , run the river 5 more times. This greatly reduces the odds of ( example this video ) Hatchem has 2 outs out of approximately 30-40 cards left in the deck. That's like 10% . And what happened ? He catched. Almost got straight aswell. To conclude , run SEPARATE FLOPS AND BOARD 3 TIMES RUN 4 TIMES TURN AND RIVER RUN 5 TIMES RIVER ONLY Before flaming , take a deck and run any desirable hand over hand in the described way , you'll see that hand that has 75% over 25% hand , you'll win 1 out of 3 - 98% of time.
Given the recent trend of Poker vid titles, I'm surprised this one didn't read: "Hatchem TT six-bets Negreanu AA, runs twice and nearly sucks him out both times (featuring an open-ended straight draw on the turn of the 2nd run) Negreanu relieved!!" Kudos to the uploader.
it is but since its their own money they can choose to do it if they want to (to try and avoid people just going out in minutes or w/e but both players have to agree to do it)
the law of large numbers takes effect only when its repeated a lot of times. in this case the chance is only determined by what cards are left in the deck.
With straddle? And Hachem in late position? I don't think he does. Range is almost every hand and if Negranu doesn't hit then it would be a huge pot where he has no idea where he stands (although he is in position so MAYBE but I don't thinks so).
Yeah, I know what you're saying lol But doesn't it bug you a bit when the commentators always assume the person is going to win with pocket aces, kings EVEN pocket jacks!
@c4ssey, @synergie24. Youre allowed to run it more than once in cash games, if both players want to. Its purely down to whether the players want to, especially when theres alot of money in the pot. Saves getting binked on if youre the guy with the premium holding, and gives more chance to the underdog/one who is drawing.
@solojuve1897 in an all in situation you can even agree to do it post flop, the agreed time is when the all in call happens. This happens on highstakes cash games, I dont think i have ever seen it anywhere else.
In a cash game, if both players agree on it, they can decide to run it twice. It gives the player who is behind a better chance to not lose his money, and it's a safety bet for someone who is ahead to not get a bad beat. Some players don't like a single run for that amount of money
Pretty normal in bigger cashgames, can run 3 or 4 to. Its to give the AA som security incase he loses first go, so he atleast can win 50 percent of the pot.
I got a question. Do you get a penalty if you flip the cards upside down? Let's say you fold in an agry way or something, and then you accidentallly reveal your folded cards by throwing them at the dealer. Are you penalized? And how much?
In tournaments. I've played hundreds of cash games where every other hand there is an exposed card - people get mad and call floor, etc. but it never does any good. In my experience, only tournaments do they really care about exposed cards.
iuriSalvador Simple. Negreanu wants to run it twice, so he doesnt lose all the money if there is a 10 on the board (which happened). Hachen wants to run it twice, so he has a bigger chance to hit at least a 10 once, so he wins half the money. So basically, it prevents daniel to lose all the chips if there is a bad beat and also gives Hachem a chance to win at least half the pot. Of course daniel did not want to see a ten on the first board. He would have won both and the whole pot. But, now that he knows the first board did have a ten, it was a good decision to run it twice. In a "normal" hand with just one boards, Hachem would have won it all.
+iuriSalvador It's a television show. They both get appearance fees. They want the show to have good poker, so they don't want to eliminate people right away. A demand for more poker show means increase offers to come back and get paid additional appearance fees that only help sponsorship money from product endorsements.
+scottab140 Less about this and more about variance. Running hands 2 or 3 times lowers the variance, like Blacsus said. It makes it so the better hand wins more money, more often... while also giving the weaker hand more chances to hit for part of the pot. It's a nice way to take a 200,000 pot and make it less about hitting 1 lucky card.
Look up 'Law of large numbers'. The more times you repeat a process containing random events, the more likely it is that the average is close to the expected value. If there was just one run, there was a 20% chance that Daniel lost it all and a 80% chance that Daniel won it all. With two runs, there's only a 4% chance that Daniel lost it all, a 64% chance that Daniel wins it all, and a 32% chance of a tie. The expected value is the same, but it's more likely that the result is closer.

Guy 1: [rolls eyes] [crickets chirping] To those who don't get it, the two options are mutually exclusive by definition (that is, they can't occur simultaneously). For those still lost (rare, I know), "hollywooding" means there's no real decision, but purely for "show." But thinking about how to maximize value is totally legitimate.
Its kind of funny because what seems like many moons ago when i first saw hachem play, My thoughts were he is a very solid player" , Then as the yrs go by I realize you just have to say boo at the table and he folds like nobodies business. He is one of those guy you never have to worry about getting creative on you and stepping out of line if he doesn't have the goods.
+TheZomBee High stakes poker players can basically do what ever they want. In instances, like this, the big game is set up specifically for the players in the game, and the players are there by invitation only. In other words, it is like they are playing a home game. They can do things like running it twice, and other things.
@asdcvbert The two players agreed to it before the flop. I dont know if it's allowed everywhere. But i have seen it on different kinds of games (never in a competition though). Sometimes they even agree to four flops.
@Colly1990 To curb short term variants and bad luck in the long run. In other words, Pocket 10s wants to run it twice because that will give him more chances of sucking out and winning half the pot. Pocket Aces is willing to run it twice just in case pocket 10s sucks out on the first board. (Which was the case in this video.) Had pocket 10s known he was going to hit a third 10, he obviously would've opted to run it only once.
so? it´s probably a pretty good thing not being too honest with your exact getting in ranges in this spot on a televised poker table. he still is a professional, playing against the toughest opposition...
Daniel: "I've never been so excited, to get half my money with aces against tens" After cash-count, interviewer: "Daniel, have you ever been so happy to get half your money with aces?" ... Come on.
@Destroyerru In these big cash games when they go all in that have an option to ''run it twice''. The point is that, if for example I have 30% chance of winning the pot and you have 70% we might run it twice. If I won the first time I would get 50% of the pot and if you won the 2. time you would get 50% of the pot. People do it becouse if you are in favor with 70% and I won, then you would lose everything you got. But if you won then I would get another chance to win back my own money.

@asdcvbert The two players agreed to it before the flop. I dont know if it's allowed everywhere. But i have seen it on different kinds of games (never in a competition though). Sometimes they even agree to four flops.
can someone explain to me. Why are they running it multiple times?
@Colly1990 To curb short term variants and bad luck in the long run. In other words, Pocket 10s wants to run it twice because that will give him more chances of sucking out and winning half the pot. Pocket Aces is willing to run it twice just in case pocket 10s sucks out on the first board. (Which was the case in this video.) Had pocket 10s known he was going to hit a third 10, he obviously would've opted to run it only once.
So why do they run it more than once? Is that a mandatory thing?
so? it´s probably a pretty good thing not being too honest with your exact getting in ranges in this spot on a televised poker table. he still is a professional, playing against the toughest opposition...
Daniel:
"I've never been so excited, to get half my money with aces against tens"
After cash-count, interviewer:
"Daniel, have you ever been so happy to get half your money with aces?"
... Come on.
True. Didn't pay attention to the 'scoreboard' at the end there

que tipo de poker es este??
Can anyone explain to me why they played it twice?
I feel so bad for Daniel, he runs so bad... Every time he gets his money in right he is lucky to get half back.
I play poker but there is one thing i don't understand: why did it run twice?
why do they have 2 rounds of (flop, turn, river) ??
some1 explain the 2 runs plz , is this somekind of special poker??
why there are two runs :O
Is it another NOLH game? or something ?
Cash game players usually run it twice. There's big money involved here.
okay thanks
memling32 Except the bloody times that you run it twice and the bugger hits his flush two in a row.
5:23 reactions from both lmao im cracking up
@voorons1 Because two aces is not that very good hand, is it?
acho umas das melhores caracteristicas do negrianu economizar
@Destroyerru In these big cash games when they go all in that have an option to ''run it twice''. The point is that, if for example I have 30% chance of winning the pot and you have 70% we might run it twice. If I won the first time I would get 50% of the pot and if you won the 2. time you would get 50% of the pot. People do it becouse if you are in favor with 70% and I won, then you would lose everything you got. But if you won then I would get another chance to win back my own money.
What’s the point in running twice why would Daniel agree? It only helps the underdog am I right or no??
Well in this case... running it twice actually helped, Daniel. If that answers your question! :)
Betting so much pre flop is so risky lol. Idk why they do it
