The Congo Crisis: an Independence, a Murder, and a Capitalist Takeover

The assassination of Patrice Lumumba marked a significant turning point for a newly independent Congo. Just as the Congo was ending an age of exploitation and entering an era of unity and connection, US interference turned the Congo back to colonialism, abruptly ending the era of independence for Africa; forcing it back to foreign reliance and starting a lasting era of neocolonialism and oppression.
The Next Generation Angels Awards are an annual prize established by The Better Angels Society in coordination with National History Day® to recognize excellent, well-researched historical filmmaking by middle and high school students.
