Yes-so cool how much he’s either directly outlining the changes or using blues scale-and really swinging with those elements! A nice takeaway for those of us learning!
Never really listened to Mehldau’s blues before. I like how he dives in with his style and comes back out, ending with “classic” blues feelings. Nice job :))
And Timmons’ shout phrase is actually a direct quote of the melody from “I Ain’t Mad at You Pretty Baby”-so both Timmons and Mehldau are quoting that head! th-cam.com/video/N82mE6Qv8yI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4zZAMEVK7MVEaN-8
Hey Jungsoo, I did a transcription of Brad doing another solo on Blues on Sunday but from a year later in 1994 at Klaviersommer in München, Germany. I did both hands and some crazy stuff happens in choruses 9 and 10. Check it out if you're curious to see how his approach to Joshua's blues changes in 1994!: th-cam.com/video/b4SiFHwLCeI/w-d-xo.html
it's quite possible brad checked out Oscar Peterson's solo (also on an E flat blues) on "The Smudge"..especially brad's second chorus. One of oscar's best solos IMO...simple yet swinging very hard and great use of space throughout
If only to transcribe right hand, it takes about half a day or less. The speed accelerates over time, and the real problem is hearing "voicings". That takes bunch a lot of time. (I personally believe hearing the left hand is the most demanding job and a way to develop as a jazz piano man.)
You really should add the Left Hand. I know it's just the blues, but The Right hand wouldn't mean anything if I played it over the chords to "Stranger in Paradise." Well, on second thought. . . .
I thought that the phrase was indicating the imminent end of the solo(not the immediate end). The reason why I thought that way was that both the harmonic tension(moving to the stable note of Bb) & rhythmic tension(16th note into half note) were resolved at the end of the phrase. I also thought fill-ins of Brian Blade reflected that. I believe there can be various interpretations to music, and your opinion may be right:)
Some of the most inside playing I've ever heard from Mehldau.

But they’re playing an outdoor festival?
@@TJATJA1982 I see what you did there.
So true! Everyone starts somewhere
Nice of Brad’s dad to lend his son a suit for the big gig.
😂

Sweet solo, and paid a little bit of a homage to the great Red Garland!
the catchy shout chorus is actually a quote from Bobby Timmons's solo on Spontaneous Combustion (Cannonball Adderley - Live in San Francisco)
Wow, thanks for mentioning!
Great catch!!!!
And Timmons’ shout phrase is actually a direct quote of the melody from “I Ain’t Mad at You Pretty Baby”
@@jonrubin60 thanks for this! I didn't know that
Man this was so valuable, and I cannot imagine all the work that went into this. Thank you very much for posting and I hope you'll do more of these.
Thank you for your kind words :)
Christian McBride just swings so hard!
He reminds me of Jungsoo. His outfit, playing style, articulation.. I have no doubt that Jungsoo is Brad Mehldau in Korea🎹

McBride is awesome here. What a quartet.
3:14 “I ain’t mad at you pretty baby, don’t be mad at me" 👌😁
Yup-Timmons and Mehldau both directly quoting this head-that really swings! th-cam.com/video/N82mE6Qv8yI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4zZAMEVK7MVEaN-8
This is such incredible analysis. I don't know how this video doesn't have millions of views!!!! Thanks for all the work you put into this!
Because quality isn't popular...
Amazing transcription-thank you!
That shout at 3:15 is a Bobby Timmons quote from a live album of the Cannonball Adderly Quintet.

3.14 Bobby Timons riff, Yeah!!!!
God bless you
Thank you very much for this video.
Bloody decent!
Ace!
His 1st two choruses definitely come from inspiration from Oscar Peterson's solo on "The Smudge"....same key, same blues
brian looks so much older than 23
Well done! Thanks for doing this, any chance you could share pdf of the transcription?

3분 14초 정도에 턴어라운드는 Eb 이 아니고 Db부터 떨어지는거 같네요

Yes it sounds of OP in a number of ways. OP one of the all time masters of piano 12 bar blues playing

2:16 reminds me of sandu..
Why did you think his solo sounded like it was ending there? It was building energy.
