Ms. Horne at her absolute finest! I had the honor/pleasure/privilege to see and hear her in recital twice in my lifetime. No doubt, she is one of the greatest singers of all time.
Lucky man. Once she had to give a recital with Montsie in the south of France. I got my ticket, took the train, arrived in Perpignan... and Marilyn was sick ! She didn't come. Eternal regrets...
I fell in LOVE with her voice (along with Joan and Luciano :)) when I was a kid. Her voice is so rich it makes you melt. It takes you on a whirlwind of Bel Canto pure fun, and most importantly, draws you in to the story she came on stage to tell. She is a treasure!!
Gosh I've never heard this version of "Or la tromba' before. I don't recognise the last part of the first 'A' section at all. Beautiful, and Marylin Horne is her usual masterful self.
The applause doesn't pay hommage nearly enough to the phenomenal performance Marilyn gave. It should have been a standing ovation with applause that should have taken the roof off. Where were the showers of roses she so justly deserved???
There is another mezzo in the same rep but is so opposite of Horne! Awkward facial movements, bobbing head with a lot of jerking, were Horne does none of that! She just stands there and delivers the goods!!
I dare to say in italian language you must roll the R. In this case the wonderfull voice of Marilyn Horne doesn't properly roll the R so it sounds instead then TROMBA, the word TOMBA that means tomb for burial....Listen the different prononciation for TROMBA between the Conductor and the Artist.....to remark the prononciation.

I had the thrill of hearing her sing this live when the Met was on tour in Cleveland! Samuel Ramey was in it too, Utterly magnificent!

Was that the one with Edda Moser? Lucky!

Increíble Marilyn Horne! Es un aria dificilísima y compleja la que canta!
straordinaria irripetibile cantatrice. Gloria ed onore del canto del secolo scorso. Fantastico due con l'immensa Joan Sutherland.

If you've not yet heard Sutherland's astounding vocalism in "Esclarmonde", the entire opera as well as excerpts are on You Tube.
@DougEller
Could not agree more!!!
😎😎😎
That trio was definitive. I’m going out on a limb though to say that Horne was the outstanding true musician of the three.
Ms Horne always makes singing the most challenging repertoire seem so easy.
My favorites violinist 🎻🌹❤️ Bravo !i Love very much Marilyn Horne..... Thank you ❤️🙏
Live! Thank you. Really exquisite. Adorable selection.
Ms. Horne recorded the entire opera "Rinaldo". It's available in CD box set.
Nobody. Nobody did it like Horne. Frankly, she was an undisputed star. And she definitely put Baroque music back on the map in America.
@@ohiorizzler1434 totally. It was trashy and flamboyant. But I still love it.

The principal trumpet is awesome!! All the trumpets are greaT
Incredible talent. One of the few truly amazing bel canto mezzos. I adore Horne's artistry and the timbre of her voice.
So well said!!!
....me Too! 😊
Excelente. Está ária pertence exclusivamente a ela.
I also love her posture!
fabulous. enough said. and so charming.

Now THAT was singing at it's best!!!
I adore both. very different interpretations, and timbre. I could listen to both back to back all day ^_^
simply unique in the world.

Magnificent!
That da capo was outstanding. I see where Ewa Podleś drew inspiration for hers.
шикарна співачка браво!
An ángel, An ángel is singing!!!
BRAVISSIMA! The Best!
Irraggiungibile! Un mito
Be still my heart!
BRAVAAAAAAA!!!!! LA AAAAAMOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brava!
A national treasure!

It'd be awesome if she kept her lips close like a trumpeter and sang it that way... ya know... to be in solidarity with the trumpeter.
I just love this woman. :D What year was this?
Chris Stockslager Not exactly sure, but I say mid 70s.
@@JJKSeattle It would need to be after 1984, as that's when she premiered Rinaldo at the Met. I'd guess within a few years of that.
Wasn't it Springfield (MA) 1988?
Is that John Mauceri conducting?
It is! He and I have a bit of history that involves Leonard Berstein,
qui peut chanter cet air de cette façon ?
Personne. C"est certain!
Sorry. I don't know what year this performance took place.

Well, if that's all you take away from experiencing this.....well, I find that unfortunate for you
😎
She is actually saying Tomba!
She's a great singer, but frankly, she's a little off key in the 2nd "A" section of the aria. The horn players are excellent, esp. the #1 trumpet.
Turn off your troll-o-phones and she'll sound better.

Poor singers! They have to stand there after finishing, waiting for the instrumentalists to complete their part.
this performance didn't age well........
Horrible
