@@tonshaad1230 mezzo soprano are overvalued, there are mezzo who can get into ranges of mezzo or contraltos who can get in ranges of mezzo, she is a contralto who can sounds like mezzo and when she was younger even she could get in ranges of soprano, her muscle of her vocal chords is very flexible, it’s a vocal quality she has, but she sounds natural in contralto
René Vela is right,she is a dark coloratura Mezzo,contraltos(for exemple Nathalie Stutzmann)are hard to find.The passagios in the voice decide what you are,not the colour!Ewa Podles has her passagio to the chest voice at the typical mezzo spot at F 1(in America they count the piano registers differently,i am from Europe.)There is no doubt about one thing:Ewa Podles was amazing.I heard her in Rinaldo in Liège in Belgium and was absolutely flabbergasted!!!Amazing Talent!!!Love her voice.So sad about her death!!

I was introduced to "Rinaldo" through the 1973 highlights recording with Beverly Wolff, Arlene Auger, Raymond Michalski and the incomparable Rita Shane (a highly undervalued artist). Later, I splurged for the complete recording with David Daniels and Cecelia Bartoli, almost immediately said "yuck!," and I don't believe it has been played since.
Her control is absolutely breathtaking! She's absolutely phenomenal!❤

Brilliant. I prefer this to the Met version with Marilyn Horne. Less frenetic plus contralto voice colours. superb artist.
