  • I've had this Victorinox Camper for 12 years now and been to quite a few adventures with it. In this video I talk about the knife and all of it's functions and how I used them over time.
It's probably no surprise to anybody that the Victorinox is super good ;) !
Enjoy the video and have a great day!

I have many SAKs because I collect knives. They're all equally good. It just depends on what features you want. All the problems with slipjoint knives are non-existent with SAKS: blade wobble, weak blade snap, uneven scales, etc. Victorinox gets it right every time at such a low price. And edge durability is fine despite the criticisms. SAK steel excels in everything except edge retention. But it's easy to sharpen. You might want to try an Alox version because they are quite different having more robust tools. The Farmer and Harvester are good choices for outdoor use. The Trekker in 111mm is another good choice.

Yeah I bought an Alox Bantam last year! Super cool little knive and very robust :)

Enjoyed your video. Never throw them away, just replace what you need to and keep the knife for sentimental value. Since they have a lifetime warranty, you can always send it to them for repair. I did this to replace one tool and they added a new knife blade as well. They also polished the scales nicely. I think it cost me $5 plus shipping. Wanna encourage you to look into the FireAnt fire-steel and tinder option for keeping in your corkscrew. Turns your SAK into capable mini survival tool and an even better camping device, IMHO. I have four SAKs that I carry often but my favorite is the S17 and S18 models as you just can't beat a locking blade and the tool selection in such a small form factor. Had mine in several countries but the UK won't be among them now (so stupid). The Explorer model is a close second, again, IMHO. Love SAKs beyond words. Have one, or another, in my pocket from the time I get out of bed, until I get back in. Only time it's not with me is in the shower. Oh, two other things: don't underestimate how useful the corkscrew can be for getting knots out of paracord and other cordage. Also, don't overlook the tip of the can opener for use on Philips-head screws. I'm always amazed how many it works just fine on. The saw can be sharpened, there's videos out there but you could always have Victorinox replace it too. I'm sure that knife has a lot more travels in store for you. Sorry, last thing: the key ring should absolutely be viewed as another tool. I've used one for a zipper-pull before.

    • @wuwatch5016
      @wuwatch5016  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah true I've used the can opener as a screwdriver too ! Thanks for the information ( Yeah I've used the key ring actually too now) :) !

    Fantastic review, really enjoyed this.
I always carry a tinker and smaller classic SD.
My oldest Victorinox is coming up for 25 years old now and still amazing.
I must use one of these knives 5-6 times every day and would be lost without them.
Thank you, this video made me smile.

Adding a fireant with a ferrro rod and tinder set to the corkscrew, makes a good addition to a camping knife. I have a original Huntsman, Spartan lite, Officer Tactical and Classical SD.

Yes,these are really excellent knives. It is my go to multi tool in subzero temperatures of outdoor Canada. I have the Victorinox Skipper and use it daily. The second tool I use a lot (mostly because of the spring loaded pliers) is Leatherman Wingman.

@@wuwatch5016 Well,it is. You have to take the gloves off to get it open first ( it has to be around -20degC for me to wear gloves) . Cannot count the number of times I found the reamer, marlin spike, the flat pry bar, tweezers or the main, serrated locking blade plenty useful. And a bottle opener too,of course.

I have a Super Tinker that I carried for over 12 years. My experience mirrors yours (except for international travel). A lot of others have been added to my collection since then, and I'll be sending the Super Tinker in for a cleaning and sharpening sometime. Victorinox makes a great pocket knife, and there's no sense in tossing one into the trash just because it's a little worn. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I have 16 or 17 Swiss Army knives to include the Mountaineer, Camper, Climber, Compact, SD, Spartan, Tinker, plus several Wengers...i love them all. I usually carry the Spartan or Compact to work. If I'm wearing jeans I usually carry the Climber. If I'm going camping or hiking I'll take the Camper. Always a tough decision which one to carry. I never like to leave home without one.

:-) The Vic Sportsman in my pocket hasn't seen as many countries as your Camper, but it has seen it's fair share of use over the around 15 years it's speiding in my pockets. I replaced my first sportsman with it which is so old, it didn't even have the holes for the tweezers and the toothpick, or the extension for the key ring. The current one had scales with a texture and a darker red tone. Now over the years the scales are smooth in most places. I also have an Executive (one of the small ones) which is older than you. :-) (by 2 or 3 years)
As for shaprening the saw: my victorinox knifes don't have saws on them, but from what i remember them to look like, a small file could work if you know what you are doing.
(Schlüsselfeilen, gibts günstig und in verschiedenen Größen im Werkzeughandel, müßtest mal schauen ob eine vom Profil her passt.)

Nice review! I love my Victorinox Camper too, even though I carry the Victorinox Handyman the most for the added tools - but the Camper is closer to my heart. Glad you did not replace your Camper with a newer one since you have quite the history and many memories associated with that specific knife!

SAK knives are what they are.l have 3 extra that I have never used them,it’s just knife collection addiction..The One I am using is more than adequate for my needs…Knife is a Knife,it’s up to you what you want and use it for…Simplicity is the key 🔑…

Some say this and that is driving scaming people to buy more to find out the difference and the real best. It is all but gimmicks to make you buy more.
