    My grandmother carried one, and gave it to me over 40 years ago, and I use it often. It hangs from my survival bag always ready.

    The can opener makes a great orange peeler as well. Work the peel between the tool and your thumb to rip peel off.

    The camper is a great outdoor knife. In addition to all the functions shown in the video, the saw blade also works as a very good bread knife!! You should try it!

    I just bought a used Camper and and another Tinker. I carry a Ranger but a Camper and a few other items on a cord i wear around my neck in winter can come in handy.

      If you fold the blade in at 90 degrees before you do it, I think it will save the joint.

      Dokładnie, bardzo ciekawie przedstawiona recka 👍 Piła jest w zasadzie bardziej użyteczna niż mogło by się wydawać. Faktycznie brakuje na niej tylko blokady, żeby krzesać. Pozdrawiam!

    Love my camper although it's had a somewhat harder life than yours by the look of It! I use absolutely everything on a fairly regular basis, in terms of it not having a sharp edge I strop mine regularly and its pretty much always shaving sharp. Great vid my man

    The blade my not hold an edge as long as some more expensive knives like a Benchmade, but they sharpen up very nicely and easily, and are a great EDC choice imo!

    Best review of the Camper. I dont know if i should get the Camper or the Alot Farmer. I really want the corkscrew on the Camper but I really want the metal scales on the Farmer :(

      I personally prefer the farmer. The tools are a bit bigger and the reamer (awl) is inline and a lot better. Just my 2 cents. I collect swiss army knives. The camper is a hell of a knife tho. Cant wrong either way

    Świetny film (ale to już norma:)
    PS. Kiedy demonstrujesz piłę, to w 6 minucie obraz jest ciemniejszy, by po chwili się rozjaśnić. Czy to nie przypadkiem tak, że zacząłeś piłować wieczorem, a skończyłeś następnego dnia rano? ;)

    0:17 - Widać brzydkie wgłębienia w plastiku. Co to? Moje Vicki tego nie mają.

    • @SimonsDiscoveries
      @SimonsDiscoveries  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Krul Mateusz Tak się robi jak ci się okładki poluzują i je przykleisz na stałe. Ten plastik jest bardzo wrażliwy na klej i po prostu się topi.
      Trochę mi zaczęły okładki odstawać po jakimś czasie od kupna i wydawały taki pusty dźwięk. Pisałem o tym do Victorinox'a i za trzecim razem przysłali mi okładki w miare pasujące do mojego modelu, ale do tego czasu już sobie sprawę sam załatwiłem. Pomyślałem, że i tak ich nigdy nie zdejmuję więc równie dobrze mogę je przykleić.

    • @Mateo-vx5hx
      @Mateo-vx5hx 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mam Vicka, który pochodzi najprawdopodobniej sprzed 73r. i z okładkami nic się nie dzieje. Ale mam też Huntsmana (jakieś 2 lata), w którym jedna z minimalnie zaczęła odstawać - ściągnąłem ją i złożyłem ją jeszcze raz i już nie odstaje. Nie używałem, żadnego kleju.

    • @SimonsDiscoveries
      @SimonsDiscoveries  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Krul Mateusz Moja odstawała bo platickowe oko/zaczep był zmiażdżony więc tam nie było juz czego poprawiać. Musiało tak być od nowości. Najpierw jakoś się jeszcze trzymało, a po pewnym czasie zaczęło klekotać.

    Batoning with any knife is silly, and all it does is show that the owner learned all he "knows" from TH-cam, which isn't much.
    As for the steel, I've seen better, too, but if you know what you're doing, this steel will work as well as the best steel made. No knife should ever be allowed to get dull, regardless of what kind of steel it uses. Only a complete amateur has a dull knife. A dull knife means you lose a lot more metal than you should when you sharpen it again, and means you may be caught without the sharpness you need in an emergency.
    You should be carrying the tools you need to keep a knife sharp, and you should use them before the knife actually gets dull. I carry a ceramic rod, a strop, a fine sharpening stone, a small piece of green stropping compound, and a small bottle of sharpening oil, all in a pouch that's two inches wide, three inches long, and an inch thick. t the first sign that the blade is less than razor sharp, I stop and take care of it. The honing rod usually does the trick, and if not, the strop will.
    real woodsman'
    s pocketknife always has more than one blade. Two is minimum, and three, such as on a Stockman, is perfect. The Stockman, with a clip point, a sheepsfoot, and a pen blade, is the best small carving knife there is, and even many, many professional woodcarvers use it, preferring it even over a carving jack.
    Stop worrying about "best" steel. Many of the "best" knife steels in the world are horrible choices for a working knife. A steel that holds an edge a long time is great, until you have to sharpen it. If this happens in the wild, you may be in trouble. Most steels do not hold an edge because they're hard, they hold an edge because they have very high abrasion resistance, which is not the same thing. The same abrasion resistance than makes an edge stay sharp for a long time is also what makes it equally difficult to sharpen.
    It shouldn't take more than two minutes to sharpen a knife, or more than thirty seconds to hone and strop it. If it does, the steel is a poor choice for a wilderness knife. Or the user need more practice learning how to take care of an edge.
    Best steel? Best for what? No steel is the best for everything. For carbon steel, the best in the world is 1095CV. It's far better than O1 or O2 steel, better than CPM-154, an infinitely better than D2, if you want to count D2 as a carbon steel. When used on a working knife, or on a wilderness knife, nothing is nearly as good as quality 1095CV. knife. It's not as good for other tools, but it can't be beat for a knife. Yet on paper, all these other steels are "better".
    For stainless, the best knife steel depends strictly on what the knife will be used for. If it's a display knife, the steel doesn't really matter. If it's a seldom used knife, one you take on that three day trip once a year, then premium steel such as CPM-s30V, is fine. But for a working wilderness knife, no, CPM-s30V is not a wise choice.
    The best steels for this are steels on the order of 440a, 420HC, Sandvik 12C2, or to use their parlance, 1.4110.
    I'd far rather see someone come into wilderness survival training camp with cheap Chinese stainless steel, which is basically 440a than with D2 or s30V. I'd far rather see them come in with 1095CV because carbon steel can make the difference between living and dying in an emergency situation, but if it has to be stainless, the "best" steels on paper are not best in any way when it comes to real world use in the wild.

      Batoning is a well known technique used and taught by many renown bushcraft instructors, who learned it long before TH-cam was even a thing. th-cam.com/video/qBcsSnHNDdQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @AaronIsaak47
      @AaronIsaak47 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Ritchie I agree with most of what you have said here and definately agree about the best steels for outdoor use are ones you can sharpen easily. I agree with Simon that Batoning is a technique used often in Bushcraft and Mors Kohanski talks about it in his amazing book “Bushcraft.” Its Usually reserved for small Tree felling and splitting kindling and is only used as a last resort within the said knifes limitations. The problem with TH-cam is that it has taken this technique to the extreme and used it as a benchmark for all outdoor knives which is misleading as different blades have different uses. The only time I have batoned a knife was for splitting small kindling and the light tapping and splitting was no problem whatsoever for my 4” Mora. You saw a 3” wide log down to 1 foot long and proceed to split it down to kindling for use in a firebox eg. THIS IS NOT KNIFE ABUSE if done gently and correctly. I would think twice about doing it through some heavy duty hardwood.

    Ludziki, jak dbać o takie cacko? Myślę że nawet nie trzeba używać go w lesie by w te mechanizmy z czasem jakiś syf się dostał Rozkręca się to by wyczyścić i pewnie czymś nasmarować?.

    • @SimonsDiscoveries
      @SimonsDiscoveries  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Szczerze mówiąc, to od noszenia w kieszeni jeszcze mi się nie zabrudził, a niektóre swoje Victorinoxy mam od 7-8 lat. Ale miałem przypadek, że jakiś piach mi sie dostał i musiałem przeczyścić. Generalnie, to one są nitowane więc nie da się ich rozkręcić. Można najwyżej zdjąć okładki. Tam też potrafi się trochę syfu zebrać z czasem i warto to zrobić. Ze smarowaniem miałem problem do niedawna, bo nic czego używałem nie było w stanie przywrócić oryginalnej płynności mechanizmu. Ostatnio spróbowałem jednego z tych schnących olejów teflonowych do rowerów (tuf-glide) i na reszcie działa. Po umyciu, przeczyszczeniu, nasmarowaniu i odczekaniu aż wyschnie ostrze śmigało jak nowe. Początkowo ten olej strasznie śmierdzi ale jak wyschnie całkowicie po kilku dniach, to nic nie czuć.

    I've had this knife for about 10 years now. It sucks. I got it for free is all. I'm in the US so if there's something better than this, get it. I mean the actual idea that the knife doesn't lock is a terrible design. And it's dull. Useless, except for the other stuff.

    • @SimonsDiscoveries
      @SimonsDiscoveries  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MrNightpwner The lack of a locking mechanism is not the best solution but unfortunately, that's what people have to deal with in the UK. It's illegal to carry a locking blade there.

    • @MrNightpwner
      @MrNightpwner 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon's Discoveries
      I saw once a mechanism that circumvents this law. I think it's a manual lock you have to enable so the knife stays in place. Maybe I'm wrong.

    • @SimonsDiscoveries
      @SimonsDiscoveries  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrNightpwner As far as I know, any mechanisms locking the blade in place is illegal to carry. That includes Opinel's viroblock. There are special lockless versions of Opinel knives to meet that requirement.

    • @shino8854
      @shino8854 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrNightpwner Yeah, it uses a pin where you insert it through a hole to lock it, other wise it is a slip joint knife.
