    I got one of those as a birthday present in the 1980s, it has an inlay print of a tent & “CAMPING”. Still use it!

      I love those "camping" logos I bought a Ranger for the extra scissors and that logo

    Fidgeting with the caplifter, no that's just you Matt. Perfectly suited for any outdoors activity. Thank you.

    Fun fact: the shield is actually a totally separate piece of metal that gets stamped out of a roll of steel, is inspected for proper quality, and placed into the scales (via some method they don't reveal).

      Thanks for sharing brother 💪🏼

      Yeah! That's why it stays there in the cellidor. With my nylon-handled Vics the logos go away quite quickly.

    Great video Matt! I like the fidget with the cap lifter as well. You already know it's one of my favorite saks, carried it for 20 years. Thank you for sharing!

    The Camper is a solid choice for an EDC and a jaunt through the woods so long as Paddy the sailor isn't tagging along. Be well Slippy. ☘

    This is a great SAK and I gave one to my eldest son for his birthday a few years ago now, I have my young lad a Hiker; which is the exact same but has the Philip driver in lieu of the Corkscrew. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!

    The Camper is one of those knives I don't ever want to be without. Really like that one. Have a great weekend, buddy!

    I have one in my pocket as I'm typing this. I pair it with a Classic SD on my keychain and use one or both every single day. Three layers for the main knife is my sweet spot for pocket carry. Nice review of one of my favorite SAKs

      Same here... paired with the SD, I get scissors without having to go 4 layers thick. The huntsman is creeping into my consciousness, though 😄

    It's certainly a great choice for lighter weight carry whilst camping ! I think ( though I could be wrong. I don't know every SAK lol ) that you only get the parcel hook if you have the scissors. I don't know why they do it that way, but it seems that that is what they do lol.

    I just ordered 3 of these for family members for Xmas, and also yes I’m with you on the fidgeting with the bottle opener. It’s the perfect fidget!

    I too find myself fidgeting with my Swiss Army knife! I fidgeted with my Hunter model in Masonic Lodge tonight!

    The shield is still metal in most cases and applied, it can actually be removed if you have an newer style scale you can
    see a little hole in the back which I believe you can insert a pin and push the shield out the front. I have seen painted
    shields like on the nylon scales but they are usually white in color.

    Honestly this, a higokami knife, and a lighter are pretty much my EDC my swiss army camper by far takes the cake as far as my tools goes. As someone who works at at a bar and is also out and about enough I still just find the SAK extremely handy rather I'm outdoors or indoors.

    I believe the Camper is now sadly discontinued. I love those "camping "logos and felt compeled to buy a Ranger for the extra tools and that logo.

    • @SlipjointSawyer
      @SlipjointSawyer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not 100% it's discontinued, but definitely no camping scales

    You got one with plus scales!? They usually don't come with the ink pen! Nice!

    The other end to the scale tools is a 4th hidden tool slot!

      I've seen that, I'll have to have a go at modifications 👀

    The only weakness I find in SAK knives is that they lack points on their knives. Sometimes you need to shove the blade into something, and having a proper point would make life easier.
    A Dremel and some gentle reprofiling of the back of the tip, bringing the drop point down until it becomes a point, works, but it would be better if the factory did it itself.

    • @SlipjointSawyer
      @SlipjointSawyer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good little mod you've done 😁

    Sure that is a good knife for camping but i prefer the best one for camping and EDC: The Farmer X.

    Is this particular piece modified somehow? Looks like it had three extra tools. My Camper has olny toothpick and the the tweezers while this one seems to have probabbly a ballpen.

      I added the plus scales after I bought it 🤘🏻

    Do you know why the CAMPER doesn't include the parcel hook (all-purpose hook)??? The CLIMBER is also a 3 layer tool and includes the awl, corkscrew, and parcel hook. Why is that?

    • @SlipjointSawyer
      @SlipjointSawyer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have no idea 🙃

    • @nicholashill4752
      @nicholashill4752 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe it’s because the layer containing the saw is too thin. The parcel hook is found opposite the scissors which are slightly wider.
