Today I'm sharing our new IKEA hack shoe storage system!
WOOD BOARD DETAILS:
We purchased a board and cut it to 12x76 in. there is about a 1-inch overhang on the sides and the front.

Really love the "weather proofing". Even if you install these in a bedroom, those mats will keep the cabinet and surrounding area clean.

Great hack! Thank you for sharing. The top would also look great with a marble slab which can be bought from a discontinued or leftover pieces section of a tile store.

I love the Ikea Hacker site and sometimes wish they took things further. Love the way you blended it into your decor. Removing shoes is such a good heath/cleanliness habit.

Great video . One question. This rack has big openings. Doesn't this lead to dust accumulation over time ? How to deal with that ?
I just vacuum out under it every once in awhile with the hose attachment on my vacuum and it’s not a problem at all.
Nice upgrade. Does system work with high heels? Every install I see only include "regular" shoes.
Oh good question! Ok just tried it and yes it works however I would suggest putting them on the bottom shelf because since there isn’t a flat bottom of the shoe if they are on the top row the heel dips down into the row below. Does that make sense??

Great set-up, but just a question; who stores away wet shoes? Maybe better to let them dry up first, before storing them. Black mold is no joke.
Yes i was thinking the same thing. And inside of drawers will get filthy. Alot of extra work for mama. But maybe with the back open they will drip dry if u can at least rinse off mud?
Yes we do actually let them dry first if they are really wet. But the mats have been really nice to help catch a lot of the dirt.

Love the weather proofing, but my issue is I wear tall boots and u don't think they'd fit.
you would probably have to lay them sideways so would not be able to fit very many, this solution is best for regular shoes. Thanks so much for watching!

I would have to buy 8 of those to fit all our shoes. Family of 5 growing kiddos🙈
Cute rack. But What about the ventilation? In rainy seasons the shoes smell badly and no holes in the rack to escape. It's better to have ventilation holes otherwise it'll smell bad when you open it.
Hey thanks for watching! Did this project 4 years ago and have never had an issue. If our shoes are extremely wet we wait until they dry out to put them away but otherwise with the rugs in the cabinets we have had great luck!!
@@OrganizedtoSave But the problem is if you keep snickers the wet will go and becomes dry. But the smell won't go. Like if you keep socks inside your shoes, it may cause the rack to smell bad. It's cute actually.

The downside of using glass is that you would see where the two shoe caddies come together so it wouldn’t look like a custom piece however functionally it would still work good.

I have been wondering about this system...we have no entryway and shoes are a real problem for us. I just worry about my husband's shoes...he wears a size 14. Going to do some more researching!! ❤
It’s a great system although I’m not sure on the sizing. I had my hubby try his shoes in the cubby at ikea before we purchased it so you might try that!
@angela rose I’m wondering the same thing. My husband wears a 13/14. I never know if these solutions will work for his shoes.

Nice idea, anyone know how to in same space make a shoe cabinet for 6 people in small apartment, aprox. 5 pair of shoes and 2 pair of sandals/slippers per person. Max proportions 60x120x36 (cm)... :DDD

Did you happen to fasten the cabinets on your walls? I love the look of these, but not that fond of screwing things on the walls
We did because we needed to make sure it’s secure and wouldn’t topple over on our daughter as she gets her shoes in and out.

We got ours at either Menards or Lowes, any home improvement store should have it at a reasonable price. 😀

These are actually just my blue light blocking glasses from Klassy Network I love them! Need to get back to eye doctor for a new prescription pair soon.

They fit booties but not tall boots unless you lay them on their side but that takes up the whole shelf.

Is it shoe size specific in other words can larger shoe sizes including boots fit perfectly?
Hey yes it fits larger size shoes but boots you wouldnt be able to fit more than probably 2 pairs if they are taller boots as you wouldn't be able to use the shelves inside.
