You did good sticking with your offer. I’ve had pump leaks before that turns into a rebuild or replace and can cost over $1000 just in pump repairs. Keep being patient. You will find the right one. Enjoy coming along for the ride as you find the perfect “Big Horse”!
I grew up on a M and Super M but we got the 826 new and my cousins still have it!! Before them, I plowed, with a clod buster, (if anyone remembers those), harrowed, cultivated, chopped corn and snow plowed with our 826 and enjoyed it always. Great machine!!
I'm not sure but you may not have to be there at the auction, so he may have put a reserve on it so it wouldn't sell for too little because he wasn't going to be there. I haven't bought or sold anything at an auction, just hauled some smaller equipment to one for a customer.
826 diesel we had ran great ! We pulled 4 18" case bottoms, and 5 , 16" Oliver bottoms and 5 , 16" AC slatted bottom plow. Is the best IH we owned. Had to replace injector pump. Was hard to start in cold weather. If you plan on using it a lot in cold weather, maybe get a block heater. You're gonna love it. Enjoy. A better buy I think than Pete's 856. lol

I fed alot of cows back in the day with an 826 hydro. It was a perfect mixer wagon tractor. Fun fact, that 826 hydro set a record for highest auction price for an 826 when it was sold, and Machinery Pete did a video about it. Go check it out if you'd like.

The 826 sounded better than I thought it would, but it looks like they're only using it for light duty. The leak in the Bosch fuel pump was a little concerning. Did he try to fix it up and found the parts aren't out there anymore? You could put a different pump on it, but it would mean replumbing the lines, and you'd run into problems with starting. At the end of the day, you stuck to your guns. Maybe someone else will see more value in it, but it's just money in the barn, not paying for its keep.
I really like that 826 but I respect your choice to stand your ground and like you said, if you don't need to sell it and ypu don't get your asking price then hey, it can stay right there lol
I personally think you may regret not getting it. Hard to come by ESPECIALLY in that good of shape. Hopefully you find something you’re happy with though. Sounds like there are some good tractors at this auction
Awesome man it definitely looks solid. It starts really good and didn’t smoke at all while it was cold so I would venture to say the pump is fine probably just needs all new seals
Theres more out there that are ready to go for sure. And a muscle tractor with a narrow is sweet looking. Keep on hunting thats almost as fun as buying
She did look good though. I've seen them that age missing the rubber on the shifters and missing the International decal plates on the sides, Paint and tires looked good.
Seemed pretty nice but I dont really see 12,000 there. The pump on the Neuss engines is about twice the price of a Roosa master on a 407/361 and still $1000 than a pump on a 1066, assuming you bought a reman pump. Here in IL that feels like a good $10,000 tractor.
Only get a wide front on that size of tractor. You'll need the stability, they have those ditches on the flat lands I hear, or even turning too quick at too much speed the tricycles will roll. That is not a cultivating tractor. I grew up with an 806 gas and five bottom plow.

You could be pushing 20 grand and have bought one with everything done for thousands less. I will say a 1256 would be a very nice addition to your fleet too.
You could have bought mine. The muffler was wrong on his, the correct one is larger oval style. Mine was 1970. Did you check the breather pipe for blow by. I bought mine 11 years ago from neighbor, it sat inside for 7 months without starting.
Theres one in the weeds at my gramps farm that a helper put there a decade ago..exhaust wasnt covered for a while and since then someones shot a hole through the cover can, but i might make an offer on it to help cleanup the scrap iron in the weeds and make something of it if i can, learn to work on diesels and something bigger than my little Fords.. are they worth a grand if their complete, even just to part out? Id like to try and start it but might have to make an offer first...
Pretty crazy how much the 826 has gone up in value. It really is a phenomenal tractor. I bought a Hydro 826 back in 2013 for $3,000. Great running tractor that will never leave the farm.
Overall, that was a nice 826 but, like you were indicating the owner wasn't going to really come down off his price. Oh well, off to look at another possible Workhorse you go. Take care.

I would've thought it would've brought a little more than 12,000 at the auction to me that's field ready the problem is the outlook this year for crops is dismal they're saying it's going to be worse than last year as far as prices tractors and big tillage equipment is getting cheaper a lot of farmers are saying they're not even going to plant crops they're just gonna leave the ground fallow

Yeah I get where you're at there fuel pump. You might run into some cost to rebuild. Otherwise I probably would have jumped on it anyways and give him the 12 grand but that's me. Since in this part of the country that would be a steal probably. Plus the 66 series it finally got into the point everyone wants them and you'll spend upwards of 30 or 40 grand anymore. So I'm going after 86 series for now since they Will come up some too yet but not as bad as 66 series. Tried to buy a V8 international. Let's just say it got out of hand lol
You offered a more than fair price considering the condition. I figured about $8000 considering the condition. Consider that I deal in Canadian Dollars, $10000 to you is $14000 to me. That being said, You offered almost double of what I would have paid for it.
@@FarmallFanatic Never seen them any other way. The 06 series, 56 series and 66 series always have black dashes. The dashes were grey on the 60 series but it was about 1961 when they went to black. If you were referring to the black painted on the casting around the dash, well, that's not factory. Only the dashes were painted black.
