Further discoveries: 1. The totem in the middle does mechanics but I am still unsure what it does, but a life bar will appear on it periodically. I am assuming the idea is to kill it and I have not had any negative consequences from doing that so far 2. The whisps sometimes dissipate and it appears that you have nowhere to go. There should be a very small gap in the maze that the whisp cannot go through when it dies. Look and try carefullly as there should be a way forward. Never go back and do not approach whisps in bugs that will not be the way 3. The time in there is not infinite but you do not have to rush. The biggest thing that causes bugs to fill up the maze is rushing and going the wron way or backtracking way too far
I've had patches of consecrated ground in the woods of a map with that mod on it. Can't remember if it only happened once or every time I've had the mod on a map though, so maybe it was a bug.
This may cause me a problem as I play flamewood build so I need something to hit my totem to deal damage , so bosses that summon thing that doesn't attack are a problem for me :/
T14 maps and just off from the starting point - That advice is GOLD! The mechanics walkthrough is fantastic. I feel optimistic about finding him and completing my 3rd accendency.

That's because you went the wrong way. I have spent 5 mins in the maze as got a phone call. As long as you do not back track and follow whisps you will be fine. Obviously there may be a time limit at an extreme end but for the purposes of normal play there doesn't seem to be
@@Cornysan The maze is sometimes difficult as the whisps can often stop quite a way short of the next one so you have to find your own way. It also looks like there are whisps off the main path you should be taking that are already in bugs. If you see one of these you have definitely gone too far

Im so happy to be back , funny story I had a head injury and i've been searching for this channel , I found a channel called big ducks and followed his build thinking it was yours. Anyways happy to find who I was looking for now
200+ 14 maps in, found it twice…. First time messed up the maze, found the purple portal thought it was the entrance and ran back… Second time I was at 7k fairy juice, found it and portal appeared at same time With high chaos resist and or auto cast phasing the stop go mechanic becomes irrelevant. I killed the 3 totem up on the platforms as soon as they got health bars.
Thank you for the tutorial, I failed in the first time because i got lost in the maze, in the second time my damage explode the boss and I did not even need to care for the mechanic. (It had just two phases to me) I Was so nervous LMAO. My build: Hexblast Minner (Saboteur)

I am pretty sure the maze portion has a degen zone that very slowly fills the maze from the starting point, but you have plenty of time to outrun it following the blue wisps

Update: Finally killed him after like the 5th attempt. My DPS must be a lot higher than yourself because I would always phase him before he could even do his red light green light shit. It was just the "follow the glowy wisp" thing was an issue

GGG really overdid it with how random finding his castle truly is. I'm level 95, I've done every map in the atlas and I've still not found his stronghold even once. It's absurd how rare finding his stronghold is and it's also pretty demoralising, I've started to accept that I'm just not going to fight him at all.
@@johndake294 it might be easier to buy the portat on Treasure Trove. Not sure how much it is, but you can just tp to someone who discovered him on their map and save yourself time looking for him.
I have run over a 100 tier 14+ maps and haven't find those totems even once. I haven't looked from outside the obvious trails, though, so maybe I have to take all my scrap maps I don't want to run and just go under to search it. That video was very helpful, since I'd have never guessed those stop and run mechanics. I don't like the boss fights for that reason, because I think it's stupid to search tutorials and memorize what to do or try dozen times when trying to figure it out.
It's supposed to be part of the fun of learning the fight to figure it out. The issue with this fight (or any other one that is so hard to reach due to RNG) is that you cannot really "learn" much with 1 attempt every 30-50 maps.
"Can be a little awkward to find" Yea in ten fucking tries I haven't completed the Infinite Hunger 2.0 bullshit. First time I clicked a wisp it went straight into a fucking wall three feet away, so this boss works about as well as anything else in the league.

my dps must be awful... took me forever to get through the first phase. after a good long while, he just sat there doing absolutely nothing and let me wail on him and I got him to 45% pretty quick. maybe the stop/keep going bit is tied to the totems he plants? didn't notice that save for twice when he froze me in place.. might've been on the whole time and I just didn't notice :/ then died in the maze because I went into the fight blind... lesson learned.
Thanks to this guide i was able to kill him on my first try with a LA deadeye. I really thought id die as i had barely 3k hp and 20% chaos res but you're right, you don't take much damage in this fight
Ran into the king for the second time. First time I didn't have enough damage to clear phase 1, this time I got dropped into a maze, followed a wisp to a two way split, found nothing but dead ends on the path I took, with another wisp just over the wall, tried to go around the correct way and vaporized on the expanding ground bugs degen I couldn't see because minions.
In the "maze" part you can die pretty easily by either the time you take to find the portal or because you made all the wisps to go out and all those ants comes back on because its dark and you get a ton o degen... don't know which is it but probably the second one hope this helps
5:55 nope. Quite a lot of times the wisps led me into a complete dead end with no way out except for running back. I rewatched my vods and no there weren't any way out.
That is just a bug unfortunately, but I doubt it happens a lot. You still need to follow the whisps as it is the only way to find the exit. There does seem to be a bug where if the exit portal is quite a long way round the whisps try to get there a shorter way that does not exist. There is not much you can do about this but it is rare. I have had it once in around 30-40 encounters
I have been trying to replicate this but every time I go in whisps lead to the exit. They can sometimes be a bit sneaky and die early as they cannot fit through the really small gaps but players can. If you cannot find the next whisp best tip I can give is do not backtrack

It's the ground degen that I mention. I agree 100% with you it's not only way too strong but also very hard to see. It's such a dumb mechanic and has killed me a few times too when I just can't see it. I now tend to portal out before I go in and get more life flasks.
If it's a purple thing that follows you precisely that is the dont stop mechanic where you have to keep moving (you can't even stop and attack) but if it is moving purple clouds on the floor that is just a crazy strong degen you have to try your best time.avoid

How come when i get to the stupid maze, I get the light wisps but the exit nowhere in sight. I follow the wisps and still fail almost every time. Is there a way to tell which direction the exit is?
The maze is very glitchy. You do have to follow the wisps as you will die if you don't. Unfortunately there do seem to be layouts where wisps lead you to a dead end but I have not come across them that often
It seems there are certain things that trigger this. Sometimes the degen doesn’t move others it follows you but either way you still have plenty of time. Rushing and going the wrong easy is still much worse than taking your time as this definitely triggers the degen areas more
May I add one correction to your video? King of the mist's altar does not oy appear in t16 maps. I have encountered one in T13 map and, thanks to your tutorial, beat him and finally fit my 2 last points. So thank you for that :)
@@FuzzyDuckzy I am a million percent sure it was a Burial Chambers map, and not t16, as I didn't have any. I only had the lower tier. It's still red.. Either 11 or 13, I don't remember and cannot check. I was shocked myself. That's why I decided to comment, as I couldn't believe I got the alter in such a 'low' map. Definitely it was not a t16. And definitely it was Burial, I had 3 of them and run them all.
really been frustrated with phase 2. in 4 attempts i follow the wisp, it stops then dissapears and goes off screen and i die trying to get back to it. Really unsure WTF is going on
Two tips I can give is never back track and when a whips dies it there is no immediate gap next to where it dies sometimes you have to push forward slowly to find the next one. There are multiple whisps in a maze. If one dies there should be another one close by. I have been trying to do some more testing but every time I get the fight I get a super short maze
I've only found this guy twice and both times the wisps led me to a dead end and then the bugs killed me because I got lost trying to find where to go.
Unfortunately I think there is one bugged layout where the whisps lead you to the exit but the exit is blocked. I had a similar thing happen the other day. Let's hope this doesn't go core as it stands
I would say there's probably a bug as I have done the fight lots now and always followed whisps. Sometimes they do seem to bug out and you have to find part of the way yourself

@@oxygene9082I think I have figired this out now. There are very small gaps in the maze that the whisps cannot pass through but the player can squeeze through. If your whisp dies it should mean there is a gap very close. Do not go back. I just did this and died but on checking the recording there is a very tiny gap I did not see

Only one whisp leading in a deadend. no other whisp on the screen and I couldnt find a small passage in front of me. Guess it was behind. But there was the mist. This feels like Sirus teleporting you to the meteor impact but with only one poral.

i find it rather frustrating that there seems to be multiple versions of this boss. i encountered him i think in white and yellow maps and the fights are different but even if i completed them, i didn't get the points.
Yeah the quest is not described well in game, but only the version you fight in the stronghold described in the video counts and only in T14+ maps. I do explain this at the beginning of the video
Its funny that you can jump him in the middle of the woods,but GGG is like "NAH THAT DONT COUNT FUCK YOU" and makes you fight him in maps like everything else.
Yeah I think the fight should be more accessible since your last wildwood points are tied behind it, especially since you have to redo it on every character :(
Finally found the boss, quickly watched the video, and died literally 1 second into the fight from a one-shot slam. So I'm not sure about the ~3k phys damage estimate. I'm on a slayer with 3.3k life and 22k armour before any flasks or buffs are up. Is there something I am missing? I have 8 endurance charges and a bunch of other buffs once the fight gets going but I sure dont want this to happen again given how long it took to find him. Thanks :)
Unfortunately 22k armour is pretty much nothing against a big hit. I am also not sure if this is a spell or attack. Do you have suppression cap? I think he does 2 different slams which have specific voice lines for. Evasion would also help as I am guessing it can be evaded if it is an attack as he has rarely hit me when playing an evasion based character
just founf him for the first time....hsve a lvl 95 and 100. died in the maze as soon as i zoned in.....also had some kind of debuff ticking up into the 60s. no idea what it is. had a white background in it
Yeah I mention the bug where you can die immediately when entering the maze. The more I play this fight the more bugs seem to get uncovered 😞 not sure what the debuff is that's not something I've encountered
Gotten to the boss 3 times and super easy fight, but the glowing wisp that u follow keeps leading me in to dead ends and then asking me to backtrack and by the time i do it the crawlers are on me.. :/
I am still trying to replicate this but gone through a bad streak of finding him and when I do it is a super easy maze. If you have to backtrack it normally means you missed an opening and this can cause problems as if you go too much in the wrong direction it can agro whisps. However this is POE so the most likely answer is that it is buggy as hell
First time I came across this boss I died in the maze to degen. Second time I made it out of the maze but the third phase was bugged and he just stayed doing nothing at the bottom of one of the ramps. Couldn't end the fight :(
Finally after hundreds of tier 16 maps, I find him, and I did screw it up. Thanks for watching this video, it was easy to get into second phase. I took no damage at all from his hits and got him low very fast. However, in a second phase, I just died witout any warning. I'm not sure what it was, but I assume I was moving when the don't move sign came into view. If it was that one, there was absolutely no time to react. I think those signs need to be predicted, so stop as soon as the purple sign disappears and start moving as soon as the red sign go away. Don't know how long it takes to have a new change, but for my opinon, mechanics like this are just stupid and not fun at all.
I agree this fight is not fun you should not have a do not move mechanic combined with a ground degen that moves towards you and kills you in a second. I hope this fight gets retired and does not make it into the main game after the league ends
@@FuzzyDuckzy Fortunately I met him again with less than 10 maps. Either I was lucky or it's not random event. This time I kicked his ass without problems and still don't know what killed me first time. This time I accidentally moved when stop was active, and it only took a bit from my life. First death was instant from full life.
Ignore this comment if you have not got to the fight the first part is very important in both understanding how to find him and requirements since a lot of people do not understand that it is the instanced boss and not the one in the wild
I have never experienced needing to be quick. If you panic and go the wrong way then the maze will start filling. I am always very slow and methodical through the maze and never had any issues.

A note boneshatter jug rocking the proper defense with fourth vow and rocking the immunity ali. can stand in everything and ignore mechanics.

He does have quite a few invulnerable phases which can make him seem tankier than he actually is

It's the ground degen that I mention. I agree 100% with you it's not only way too strong but also very hard to see. It's such a dumb mechanic and has killed me a few times too when I just can't see it. I now tend to portal out before I go in and get more life flasks.
If it's a purple thing that follows you precisely that is the dont stop mechanic where you have to keep moving (you can't even stop and attack) but if it is moving purple clouds on the floor that is just a crazy strong degen you have to try your best time.avoid

Thanks. That is not an MTX that is the portal specific to this boss arena. It might be an MTX in one of the new packs but not sure

How come when i get to the stupid maze, I get the light wisps but the exit nowhere in sight. I follow the wisps and still fail almost every time. Is there a way to tell which direction the exit is?
The maze is very glitchy. You do have to follow the wisps as you will die if you don't. Unfortunately there do seem to be layouts where wisps lead you to a dead end but I have not come across them that often
The degen in the maze *definitely* expands over time, so you cannot search the maze forever.
It seems there are certain things that trigger this. Sometimes the degen doesn’t move others it follows you but either way you still have plenty of time. Rushing and going the wrong easy is still much worse than taking your time as this definitely triggers the degen areas more
Found this event 3 times after 300 maps ald for all of each never find the portal in the second stage, also following the wight lights :/

May I add one correction to your video? King of the mist's altar does not oy appear in t16 maps. I have encountered one in T13 map and, thanks to your tutorial, beat him and finally fit my 2 last points. So thank you for that :)
I think I say T14+ which is where he should appear. Are you sure it was T13? According to the wiki and GGG his stronghold cannot spawn in T13 maps.
@@FuzzyDuckzy I am a million percent sure it was a Burial Chambers map, and not t16, as I didn't have any. I only had the lower tier. It's still red.. Either 11 or 13, I don't remember and cannot check. I was shocked myself. That's why I decided to comment, as I couldn't believe I got the alter in such a 'low' map. Definitely it was not a t16. And definitely it was Burial, I had 3 of them and run them all.

really been frustrated with phase 2. in 4 attempts i follow the wisp, it stops then dissapears and goes off screen and i die trying to get back to it. Really unsure WTF is going on
Two tips I can give is never back track and when a whips dies it there is no immediate gap next to where it dies sometimes you have to push forward slowly to find the next one. There are multiple whisps in a maze. If one dies there should be another one close by. I have been trying to do some more testing but every time I get the fight I get a super short maze
i had a strange situation - there was no first stage with boss on the arena, the maze was first instead - ofc "bugs" killed me in 3 seconds
Yeah that definitely sounds like an unfortunate bug! There are a few in this fight
I insta phase him but I’m playing glass cannon ts so I also get one shot
I've only found this guy twice and both times the wisps led me to a dead end and then the bugs killed me because I got lost trying to find where to go.
Unfortunately I think there is one bugged layout where the whisps lead you to the exit but the exit is blocked. I had a similar thing happen the other day. Let's hope this doesn't go core as it stands
Every time I died in the degen in the maze. I stayed on the whisps. Died anyway. There must be more to it or it is hellish bugged.
I would say there's probably a bug as I have done the fight lots now and always followed whisps. Sometimes they do seem to bug out and you have to find part of the way yourself
@@FuzzyDuckzy I get kinda frustrated with this. got him the 3rd time now playing hours and hours (4 days 4 hrs played). And again. One whisp. It stops. the mist approaches and I am dead. Crazy bad mechanic if this damn shit of a boss is gated behind this...
@@oxygene9082I think I have figired this out now. There are very small gaps in the maze that the whisps cannot pass through but the player can squeeze through. If your whisp dies it should mean there is a gap very close. Do not go back. I just did this and died but on checking the recording there is a very tiny gap I did not see

Only one whisp leading in a deadend. no other whisp on the screen and I couldnt find a small passage in front of me. Guess it was behind. But there was the mist. This feels like Sirus teleporting you to the meteor impact but with only one poral.
@@oxygene9082 next time you get him record it on game bar or whatever software you have and rewatch it or upload it to TH-cam unlisted as would love to have a look as if this is a bug it 100% needs addressing considering how rare the fight is

Yeah it's annoying you will go map after map without seeing him then you will find him 3 times in 10 maps
I've been going into a lot of T14+ maps, and I still can't find him! This is really frustrating! HELP!
You just have to try and find as many events as you can using the diamond strategy/layout. There is not much more to it than that it's just pot luck
found him after about 200 maps and died with a sliver left on his health bar cause of the degen. not exactly excited for the next 200 maps
i find it rather frustrating that there seems to be multiple versions of this boss. i encountered him i think in white and yellow maps and the fights are different but even if i completed them, i didn't get the points.
Yeah the quest is not described well in game, but only the version you fight in the stronghold described in the video counts and only in T14+ maps. I do explain this at the beginning of the video
Noob question: you say watch the player bar for the red/green but what is a player bar?
All the symbols that appear on the top of the screen. This is a debuff so will appear on the left hand side underneath all of your buffs
Its funny that you can jump him in the middle of the woods,but GGG is like "NAH THAT DONT COUNT FUCK YOU" and makes you fight him in maps like everything else.
Yeah I think the fight should be more accessible since your last wildwood points are tied behind it, especially since you have to redo it on every character :(
Finally found the boss, quickly watched the video, and died literally 1 second into the fight from a one-shot slam. So I'm not sure about the ~3k phys damage estimate. I'm on a slayer with 3.3k life and 22k armour before any flasks or buffs are up. Is there something I am missing? I have 8 endurance charges and a bunch of other buffs once the fight gets going but I sure dont want this to happen again given how long it took to find him. Thanks :)
Unfortunately 22k armour is pretty much nothing against a big hit. I am also not sure if this is a spell or attack. Do you have suppression cap? I think he does 2 different slams which have specific voice lines for. Evasion would also help as I am guessing it can be evaded if it is an attack as he has rarely hit me when playing an evasion based character

just founf him for the first time....hsve a lvl 95 and 100. died in the maze as soon as i zoned in.....also had some kind of debuff ticking up into the 60s. no idea what it is. had a white background in it
Yeah I mention the bug where you can die immediately when entering the maze. The more I play this fight the more bugs seem to get uncovered 😞 not sure what the debuff is that's not something I've encountered
Gotten to the boss 3 times and super easy fight, but the glowing wisp that u follow keeps leading me in to dead ends and then asking me to backtrack and by the time i do it the crawlers are on me.. :/
I am still trying to replicate this but gone through a bad streak of finding him and when I do it is a super easy maze. If you have to backtrack it normally means you missed an opening and this can cause problems as if you go too much in the wrong direction it can agro whisps. However this is POE so the most likely answer is that it is buggy as hell
the god damn wisp dissappeared , ill have to look out for a gap i guess but felt like a deadend or something
First time I came across this boss I died in the maze to degen. Second time I made it out of the maze but the third phase was bugged and he just stayed doing nothing at the bottom of one of the ramps. Couldn't end the fight :(
This fight seems to get glitchier by the day. I have had a couple of odd things happen the last 2 times and DC'd the last time I found him
Finally after hundreds of tier 16 maps, I find him, and I did screw it up. Thanks for watching this video, it was easy to get into second phase. I took no damage at all from his hits and got him low very fast. However, in a second phase, I just died witout any warning. I'm not sure what it was, but I assume I was moving when the don't move sign came into view.
If it was that one, there was absolutely no time to react. I think those signs need to be predicted, so stop as soon as the purple sign disappears and start moving as soon as the red sign go away. Don't know how long it takes to have a new change, but for my opinon, mechanics like this are just stupid and not fun at all.
I agree this fight is not fun you should not have a do not move mechanic combined with a ground degen that moves towards you and kills you in a second. I hope this fight gets retired and does not make it into the main game after the league ends
@@FuzzyDuckzy Fortunately I met him again with less than 10 maps. Either I was lucky or it's not random event. This time I kicked his ass without problems and still don't know what killed me first time. This time I accidentally moved when stop was active, and it only took a bit from my life. First death was instant from full life.

Ignore this comment if you have not got to the fight the first part is very important in both understanding how to find him and requirements since a lot of people do not understand that it is the instanced boss and not the one in the wild

What a bs fight i got thrown in the maze area, didnt find the exit, then it just killed me.....
I think this fight is pretty stupid too. Sometimes the maze is super easy other times it is very confusing to find your way around
You actually have to be quick in the maze? Else the room gets filled with degens and you die?
I have never experienced needing to be quick. If you panic and go the wrong way then the maze will start filling. I am always very slow and methodical through the maze and never had any issues.
