I hate the trade aspect of div per hour, so I play SSF. If people don't want to deal with the grindy resets, I highly suggest playing SSF Standard. It takes a lot of the time pressure off and you don't get dumped into the weird Standard trade economy.
Might have to go that way. I play PoE only occasionally, but my friends always manage to get me on it every time a new league launches. Then I make a character, play until i'm about lv70 or something, might even make a couple of characters because my first one got some drops that I figured would be fun to try out on another, and then the league ends. I never get in to the real late game content. Then it resets, I wait a few months, maybe half a year, and then again start from the zero. It's always fun for a few hours, but also frustrating.
I feel that although I don’t hate the grind Aspekt I just dreadfully hate the trade system it’s sooo clunky and outdated and I’ve accomplished nearly everything and farmed nearly everything (besides betrayal, carry 5 ways and Uber bosses) also I’ve never had a mirror not because I couldn’t afford one just because I couldn’t be bothered to trade that much.. Will play ssf this league wanted to really get into it when lights started his ssf journey played a bit and then they’ve changed the unique drop table ie brassdome isn’t targetfarmable anymore.. Hoping I’ll enjoy ssf been a blast rn just taking it really slow and get into betrayal.
I switched to SSF this league. I want to learn crafting. That's basically it. But I've also noticed that I learn a lot about the items, what has actual value for me. And it is easier since I don't constantly have to worry about what is right price for each item. I'll try HC SSF next league but this league I wanna really get to know stuff. Trade league is all about farming currency and as a former sales person there is a side of me that enjoys that. But I don't know crafting and many aspects of the game. And SSF forces you to get familiar with those.
Great tips! I didn't know about the cluster jewel vendor recipe. I was having a hard time finding an 8 socket fire large cluster jewel. Just vendored my surplus and rolled two 8-node ones :D
great info. ive found that delirium covers a lot of things and after i specced into it for cluster jewels i found i was getting way more essences and fossils than when i targeted them, some oils maps and catalysts. its very expensive in atlas points but as 3 out of 4 of my maps are deli now it seems to be the best use of the majority of my points. im still a noob and have never played trade league so its hard to know what to target farm so i like to cover alot of bases at once.
Disgusted by the current trading system, SSF have been heaven for me. I try to do one bosskiller and one mapper. I currently have a RF. It is hard, but so much more rewarding, and also you improve in everything because you have to.
The biggest issue with SSF from my experience is that so many builds are needing uniques in order to be viable. It seems like there are only a handful of viable builds that aren't requiring uniques in order to work decently into red tier maps, which is pretty limiting. So you end up choosing one of those builds (boneshatter, lightning arrow, etc...) and then you are essentially required to start investing a TON of time (like you mentioned) into running maps over and over and over again just in hopes of finding that 1 unique that will enable you to play the build that you actually want to play. So it can be rewarding to play SSF, but also really limiting. I think what I'm going to do going forward is play on the trade league, but not sell anything. Only buy what I need with the currency I find.
This isn't remotely true at all. There are definitely more than just a "handful" of viable SSF builds (also depends what you consider viable), and many uniques are targetable in some way (div cards, gwennen, ritual is a good choice etc).
You really have to be either willing to play entirely unfamiliar/new builds that use the gear you happen to find OR learn how to create builds that are either unique agnostic. IMO it's really only limiting to specific types of playstyles, it just so happens that those specific playstyles are enabled by trade. If people took the time to really figure out how the build they are playing works, it's normally possible to figure out a way to make it work in SSF. It's really only builds that literally revolve around specific uniques (which are far fewer than people think, just because a guide might say a unique is 'mandatory' doesn't make it so) that get screwed. For all of the others, there are 100% viable alternatives
I've been playing POE for years but I just started my first SSF because I wanted to try it. It's far more challenging and can be a grind to start. One important thing I learned is to save your high end currency until you're ready to craft some decent gear. Currency is really only good for crafting on the bench or with the currency itself. It's also good to have a plan and focus on skills you want. I love Explosive Arrow, so my focus was finding a good bow or crafting one. So far I've loved the challenge of SSF.
Same, however, I've struggled to reach or kill any pinnacle bosses except for Exarch. I run out of currency rerolling new builds just to stagnate all the same and struggle to find currency/kill bosses. Moreover, it seems I am a glutton for punishment and IGD because I dedicate all of my time and energy to progressing.
Tons of interesting info here. I know I'll run a trade league first to get back into the game. Ruthless SSF was insane I barely made it to act 3 before giving up on it and just waiting for the new league.
@ItFightsBack At 14:40 ish you talk about how it's not smart to take the 4 incursions per map node if you are hunting for double corrupts/gems corrupts as you only get 3 chances to upgrade your specific rooms vs 4 if you don't have that node. At first glance, that sounds sensible, but how confident are you in this statement? The thing is, yes, you get 4 chances if you only have 3 incursions in each map, but in the 4 incursion map, the pool of potential rooms you can hit is smaller on the forth one, so IF the first three incursions were duds so to speak, you have a fairly good chance of hitting your gem/corrupt room since there are fewer rooms to choose from now... makes sense? And this becomes even better the closer you get to the end of building the temple as you've already excluded some rooms since they are now t3... I am not saying that; NO, you are wrong, but i am saying it's not as straight forward as you might think.... maybe... i think... or have you mathed this out or is your information from someone that has mathed this out? :)
I have been questioned on this several times and no one has managed to convince me otherwise. I am not fresh enough on my statistics to know if the 1/11,1/10,1/9,1/8 3 times or the 1/11,1/10,1/9 4 times has a better outcome of hitting the same room twice. It still feels to me that it is more likely to hit a targeted room to T3 if there are only 3 incursions in the map, and easier to connect all the rooms if there are 4 incursions in the map. I do not do much incursion so I don't have a wealth of data to go on, but I still believe it.
There's a middle ground between SSF and trade Private league: you play and trade only with your friends. That's what we're doing with the current league (Settlers) and it's been surprisingly good
Thanks for your effort in this video. This video is literally, pure gold to me. I just came back to POE, and willing to play on SSF only because the trade league feels like a job... You know, doing things efficiently, doing X or Y strat, doing X or Y build because of some ppl... the meta on the game feels exausting and boring as fuck. To me, ssf feels like fresh cold air in a good game like POE. I've been looking for a good ssf channel, and just found yours yesterday. So thank you! i'try to follow you for now on :) Could you think about make a vid about lootfilters itself? Tips, trick, ideas and so on?
You def beat a dead horse but I got the message. Keep the stash tabs full! Check. Something extra I learned that you may not have accounted for was the portal cast on death. I never thought that could be a thing. I struggle with currency and this video helped me a lot. Thank you.
I just want to add that there are very little resources like this for SSF. I'm positive if you kept making SSF help videos you'll have a lot of people glad to find them.
i was actually just thinking about playing ssf perfect timing for the video! thanks for that After playing around in pob think i will start Flicker ignite marauder what do you think of the new atlas keyston converting all the quantity to 300% rarity? i think it could work very well with exiles and torment to get a lot of nice uniques.
In standard you can specialize in a single area of the game and sell a bunch of stuff to purchase things you need from other content whereas in SSF you have to get it yourself
I just started playing on console standard league to learn the game. The trade economy seems waaay to inflated on there so I’m technically ssf lol. Would you reccomend I just join a league or wait till the next one? I do want to learn the trade economy down the road once I got all the mechanics and such down.
Currency tab, map tab, maybe a 4 pack on sale. That's less than $30. You really don't need it but I believe the game is worth spending that small amount of money.
Hi, im trying to getting familar with ssf. I feel hitting the wall (even in trade but got solve by currencies) in early mappings. Its real hard to maintaining links (5-6 link of non desired modes) and the other items. I constantly out of fusing and chrom because I need to update items quite frequently. It would be great if you can help share some tips on prioirty things after mapping, like level 70-8x. Im struggle finding what to do in: - mapping or heist - delving or mapping Also the early essence crafting seem bad because those all low levels and end need scor before craft. how do I target crafting items with my 20 first points on atlas? Points to strongbox or essence or map tier +? Assuming I like running maps. Thank a tons. The POE contents are mostly for trade league, I hard find it helpful sadly.
You might have to grind more in SSF than in trade to get the things you want. Getting useful 5L and 6L items early is quite a challenge. Early on I prioritize corrupted strongboxes to try and get corrupted 6 links to potentially use or vendor for fusings. I also prioritize shrines to add power or survivability to my build until I start acquiring more powerful items.
I personally wish the game had a "SF" mode like D3 (or how intended in Last epoch) that you can play in group with friends or maybe even trade with you play together. Or have a system with choosing up to 3 people you can allways trade with or stuff like that. Like a "coop-sf". Also i wish you do not need to identify stuff in ssf or that mode and have a proper customizable Loot Filter integrated in the game like in last epoch. it is so awesome to always change item properties on the fly in loot filter with easy to use if/then/else ingame within seconds. May i will try out ruthless one day because I'm really not a fan of trading or trade league. It's all about min-max profit runs and whats your best currency gain. Really not a fan of it. but on the other side identify gear all the time is annoying also - especially when you do not know stuff that much.
There are private leagues that people create all the time for group self found purposes, but nothing within the core of the game for group play as you described. I wish there was something similar as well.
That's exactly what my friend and I are doing this league.. self found and we share everything in the guild stash. It's great fun, pick builds that use different equipment so you aren't competing for the same stuff
Great content. Might I recommend a more noob friendly version. This is my 3rd season. I only play SSF and I still feel disoriented. After campaign, now what? I need more of a step by step guide for SSF post campaign. Picked up a little from this, but too many choices. I need it more spoon fed for now.

And I own about 20 fuse orbs that I have found. Does this change singnificantly when I start doing maps? I mean, I know this is a grindy game, and I'm willing to invest hundrets of hours, but after hundrets of hours I expect to have a good character or few, not still only one that isn't even that good.
