I think my favourite games from this series have been the ones where you don't get the PF into their base, but you park it outside the base and use it for containment.
The Thor/SCVs all-in is just so hilarious 🤣 I really struggle to comprehend how you managed to win that 2nd game after everything went so bad in early game 😅😂
I played PF rush for like 4 months (I'm in platinum lol) My fav was to proxy two tanks, set them up on the low ground, fly the CC + factory into the high ground in cover of the tanks, morph into planetary and build more tanks on the high ground behind the planetary. Basically everyone gets freaked that you have a planitary in their base. They can't get close enough to hit the tanks without going arround and if you get a medivac in time you can drop them from high to low and back again all while growing like a cancer, building SCV's to heal up everything and only get amazing trades.
So something like wall off their base to gm? May not work on every map the same but sending the cc with another building is a great idea. Maybe cc hellbat against zerg?
Marc - would just like to say kudos on being such an entertainer. I'm a subscriber who does not play SC and have no plans to ever do so. However your videos are always worth watching, happy new years and best wishes on years of successful future content!
It was me that coined the phrase "planetary distraction" - it wasn't meant as a rebuke, it's without a doubt the best way to use one. Just rushing a PF can be stopped by anyone higher than bronze just by patrolling workers under it but as you said - people freak out when they see the big red flying building and there's your edge
I really like the challenge summary + rules at the start of the video. I think that will really help people new to the channel/series to understand whats going on.
Haven't played in years but love watching your content. You're always so positive and have great energy while playing, has become one of my fav channels in the past 6 months. Hi from Australia.
What if you loaded a couple SCVs into the Command Center, flew it over, landed, built the fortress, and then you can pop the SCVs out to repair as needed?
Half the problem is that he needs to build the SCVs for that first, which takes time, or transfer them from his main, which also takes time and reduces his mining income. And all the enemy has to do is focus the SCVs and kill them while the Planetary is building, and it ends up being wasted resources and time. You might say to bring his army units in to protect the SCVs, but if he can do that then the enemy isn't going to attack the Planetary anyways, they'll be trying to kill his units instead and thus there's no need to repair the Planetary in the first place. It's a very difficult balance to achieve, especially against an opponent who knows what they're doing.
He can load the one used to build the planetary, or just send it back to keep it alive since it'll almost certainly die anyway. But, if the scv isn't targeted, he could build an eng bay to block surface area from worker attacks.
@@LordKelvinX2086 In my personal experience, it is best to get scvs to come in at the right time, the surprise injection of 5-8 scvs gets the planetary up instead of not up and then I can use that with my army movement, often join up with the pf after doing damage. My fav is still the pf contain though, but I do think it has serious issues outside of pvz.
@@LordKelvinX2086 Ah, can you not load SCVs back into the Command Center while it is upgrading to a Planetary Fortress? I was thinking of doing micro similar to medivacs and warp prisms where you can dodge attacks and repair in between. If that isn't possible, oh well.
Thank you for your dedication. I use your videos to improve my listening skills in English xD Positive attitude, good communicating skills and hard skills, being polite - this is unique combo, which makes me easy to follow up.
Man I havent played sc2 in years, but for some reason i am hooked to your videos! When I was younger it was a dream to sit behind some top level sc1 players, and now we can with youtube!
Recently i've seen the legendary cheese player Florencio do insane PF Rush vs Zerg. It's CC before depo and it's timed so CC can lift and land before hatchery on natural can finish so creep does not block the PF. You should def consider if insane ideas like CC first can work cuz i think they are really funny to see. Ofc in case of Florencio's CC first is double edged as it's better vs macro Zerg as it's proper contain with PF but worse vs zerg rush as you have no def at home but maybe Uthermal could figure out how to both hyper rush the PF and not insta lose to zerg rush.
Great content as always! I do not know why Thermy does not put one probe in the planetary when flying it in the opponent's base so the probe can repair. I do not know if the command center can transport other units but if that is the case woild be fun to see it transporting widow mines when landing hahah.
The greatest part about this cheese is that it's so anti-meta that no one knows how to handle it. Opponents just panic and you use that and micro skills to ride to victory.
If you want to do it with PF, need to play mind game with options. Either you move closer to drop zone and not telegraph your intentions that your PF is landing in their main and do it last second by switching the drop site or show the drop site is next to their base and then drop it on their ramp at the last second as it travels over it. The other mind game is show you are dropping the PF in main base to cause panic and recall units or keep them at home waiting for the drop then drop at nearby mineral line. Why is this a more conservative option? Main base opponents can pull probes, easier to force opponents to string out units and pick them off on route to nearby base, then you can choose which units to attack first. Usually offensive units and don’t have a bunch of probes-workers getting in the way. Look at how many scvs you bring in for a Thor and how many you bring for a PF to repair. Easier to medevac a Thor and repair than a PF. A PF win is a mid game win. Your reaper and Thor drops are early game cheese. PF is a mid game cheese. Your PF won’t get utilized unless you drop it into 2nd base. All it does is increase panic when opponents see that it is going to be dropped in main base or top of the ramp. Since proximity to mineral lines and workers then options would be to choose hitting mineral line. Counter to Uthermals cheese. Mistake 1 playing greedy and expanding to fast, Mistake 2 building the wrong units to counter. Mistake 3. Panicking and not thinking how to counter a cheese. Mistake 4. Not paying attention to opponents build and timing. Meaning you play hi MMR player and you see what at what time and don’t get suspicious on he scouting. Good indicators are, did they build 2nd base, did they build gas, did they build other structures, add ones, tech, reactors. If you can beat someone’s all in cheese then you normally won. Think of it as, I don’t need to play a long game, just beat the cheese in the beginning to win. Protoss died because of 1 small change you made. You built Vikings instead of medevacs. You controlled air superiority. Otherwise that game would have ended differently. You are winning faster because your making adjustments to your cheese as you go along in your series. The game ends when you break the opponents mentally and they just quit and gg. That effects how fast game ends. I don’t want to give away tactics that will mess up your series especially with so many people enjoying them. I will say there were 2 key moments that decided the game. Key moment 1. Destroying the pylon and deactivating his starport. That put Protoss behind. The moment unit popped out, Uthermal didn’t play his normal medevac and went to Vikings to counter. Key moment 2. How Protoss handled that single air unit that did pop out. How it was used. Protoss had air superiority for a moment and wasn’t used to snowball that advantage. Risk of barracks or starport proxy type cheeses. You get shut down if opponents gets suspicious and scouts and builds proper counters. Advantage of PF cheese, semi offensive, can build scvs to repair units, can take away resources next to opponents base if game lasts longer.
At 9:27, if you control your hellions separately from your hellions you can probably take no damage on the medivacs and extend the harassment as a result
"proxy 111 hellion drop, mine drop, failed planetary rush, thor allin with SCVs" is a build you can defeat a 5.3k protoss with. how 20:00 lmao that command center "guys! wait for me!"
When you play in your next turni try having a few cheeses per race. and pick which one you think is best based of the match up. For example VS Zerg 1. Penguin Brothers 2. Contain Planetary 3. Ghost, hellions, nukes, VS Terran 1. Air 2. Cheese 3. cyclone, mine, rines, med VS Toss 1. Thor rush, 2. Air 3. Ghost, hellions, nukes,
i personally love "planetary distraction to grandmaster". it's almost impossible to force a planetary fortress onto a quality opponent, but you can distract anyone with the threat of one.
If you ever need a video to show how much better pro players are at the game, show them this one. Literally spending 500+ plus minerals and some gas on a floating building and still winning. That show just how innefective they can be and still be ahead of you. :) loving the series, dude
uThermal, i have an idea, can you and Mana (in the same team) content for 2v2 do? This content in 2v2? is it a good idea? I watch 100 percent both perspectives. You both my best content creator. How is it for an cross over? My dreams come true.

Although I admit I would love for the PF to have more of an impact in the fights, it does force them into a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation. I’ve been watching since cyclone mine to gm/hellion raven and this by far is my favorite series. It’s so silly that it works and talking about it having the best name of salt cannon which you get the most salt on this challenge. Hardly any ggs
@Uthermal Is it possible to build it even faster? Like for instance starting the CC before the factory? Producing some scvs from the second CC , load them up and fly it in with 5 scv on board?
Game 2: Thermi didn't even execute well, lost the first medivac for no reason whatsoever (abondon hellions...) Key to killing with the planetary: You need to come in with a bunch of SCVs. 3 at least, better 4-5. build walls around it, bunkers, and come in with reapers. (can be done with proxy rax reapers).
I'm pretty much caught up on all your content. Hey Marc, watching you, you seem 5o make it look so easy but I watched a video of harstem and he was ripping apart a low level players build timings and order and how that will put a player extremely behind. My question for you is, when you are doing these new builds, you don't necessarily have your tmlimings down, yet you do so well. It is just that you are still being extremely efficient with mining and spending, and is it possible to be a good SC2 players without doing your homework and studiously learning and implementing all the exact timings and build orders? Or is it just that you are so good that these things don't matter as much to you since you do know the exact timings and build orders so can implement new things.
Clearly if they quit before you can rush them with a planetary, the solution is to rush them with two planetaries. That way one of them can be the distraction for the other.
I dont know... i thought it was a planetary rush series not a proxy marauder cheese series! I don't think you should be able to attack before your cc is in there!
This proves to be one of the best challenges ever.
Only "one of the best" because of... ghosts. :P
But yes. :D
I agree.
This is the first cheesy series that has been as much fun as BeastyQT's old roflstomps tbh. luv ya thermy but I miss beasty :(
This is hilarious. Thermy so good he kills them before he can complete his cheese. We're going to need an even tougher challenge.
When he reaches gm the run will end and he will have to land the pf almost always.
Clearly he needs to go double or nothing. Double PF rush to GM!
2 pf's?
This episode was pure comedy.
maybe not a tougher challenge but atougher opponents? what borderline gm means to a pro? its like gold to high diamond?
I think my favourite games from this series have been the ones where you don't get the PF into their base, but you park it outside the base and use it for containment.
Really works best on zerg and there have not been many :(.
Literally laughed out loud @ 11:54 seeing the 6 marines and mule group together to go into battle lmfao

Sick episode! My favorite part was where you almost built a PF.
lol the middle game that went all ways but well, was hilarious. well done Marc

That game 2 😂😂 it's like an "sc2 but your build changes every 2 minutes" challenge lmaoo
16:54 Lol
Happy New Year Marc, here's to another year of the best SC2 content on TH-cam
Really great episode!
The last guy waited until he saw the CC flying into the base LUL.
Uthermal is too good... Beating GM opponents with a CC just flying over his army.

I'm surprised he wasn't on 4 bases when you finally dropped that thor.
This and proxy hatch are my favorite shows. Would love to se them continue past GM.
The ultimate bait: Zerg using a Protoss portrait with the name Terran.
“Why is there a Thor here?”
Because…THOR IS HERE!
i laugh at your videos more and more each time! Thanks for the great content.
To be honest, most of the games you kill an enemy without using planetary fortress.
Terrified by one PF landing in your main? Well, we've got the fresh new development for you! For a limited time, now you can enjoy TWO PFs landing in your main in a single push!
I had an idea for a challenge, not for a series or anything but just something it would be cool to see you try...
What about a squad size limit? Not allowed to ever have above x number of units receiving the same command. so it would be a bunch of mini groups and never in a big army
In some respects this mineral disadvantage you have due to the investment in the PF might be somewhat comparable to that during the bonecloud challenge, yet you were obviously still able to beat good players with that, so I think the micro, decision making, positioning and choice of fights are what really makes up for it. Random question but where dose your username come from Thermal?
@Uthermal Is it possible to build it even faster? Like for instance starting the CC before the factory? Producing some scvs from the second CC , load them up and fly it in with 5 scv on board?

Should load scv onto it for repair yes
Happy New Year! Be well! Love your content! Amazing ideas you give me!
HNY thermy looking forward to what you'll be up to in 2023 ^^
I'm pretty much caught up on all your content. I like the themed stuff a lot more because the little bit of extra tension you feel in the 400 tourneys comes through and stresses me out a little 😅, but these are all about the fun. Will you ever go back and redo your OG Terran School vids, or do they hold up still? I know there have been some balance changes since the first videos.
Is the one "g" an insult or mistype of "gg"?
Sometimes leaving your opponent unable to decide how to respond means they make mistakes more often.
I watch all your stuff, Game 2 is one of my all time faves 😂
in mini games the PF would be called a distraction carnifex
Thermy is so OP he's basically playing protoss with terran :)
Its ok they will get better as you rise.
I don't know why but the planetary always reminds me of the head of Optimus Prime xD
Maybe try another Optimus Prime contain while upgrading it with turrets/bunkers/tanks/mines/libs and get yourself a giant mech (without legs) in front of the enemy base :D

Need some accounts named “MrCheeser” “Cheesy McCheeserson”. “Cheese Meister”. “Don’t cheese me bro”.
Please could you put scvs into the cc and then do some sick scv micro.
Thumbnail Arrow Achievement Unlocked!
can't wait to see you mess around in the new patch
Clearly if they quit before you can rush them with a planetary, the solution is to rush them with two planetaries. That way one of them can be the distraction for the other.
Planetary and thors bet the building lives longer. Also you can hold suv 5 of then in the command center. So just heal it. I'm sure you could do it.
Game 2 should be called the Alice in Wonderland build ;)
Toss a couple of scvs in the command center to repair while building the planetary?
Rush your main as the proxy. Mine the opponents starting mineral line.
How's them apples!
Double planetary rush is the only answer.
That and getting a rumble channel.
Probably could have just added this to the speed-running sc2 series
I dont know... i thought it was a planetary rush series not a proxy marauder cheese series!
I don't think you should be able to attack before your cc is in there!
_opponent is 4.9k_
"how do people keep dying before I get the PF?"
Imagine how demoralized his opponents are when they realize he wasted ~700 minerals for a cheese that had 0 impact on the game.
Game two was legit! Gold
The kitchen sink build ftw.
