Wow. I watched this game live on tv. This was the best effort done to the best TT player of all time, Ma Long. It was really close game. We all know that Fan will get the first place in someday, he is just 18...but this was not that day, as we saw. Epic skills + Mental power + experience made Ma Long Again to be the best again, without losing anyone in this year (When Fan lost 3 times this year). As a result, being a Ma long fan, yesterday had a brilliant match and I was very happy to see the best player of all time won again. I hope the Ma Long empire last more and more. I was unsure if they'd got the right man when he got the job a few years back, but he has proved enthusiastic, knowledgeable, quirky and cool, and with a sport that is quite hard to commentate on. They are at the same level, technical skills wise. It's the experience and mental toughness that FZD needs to strengthen. Ma long was down 3-6, but he came back and got 3 match points (10-7). To proof this, ML has always been the winner in those 7-sets game.

You know Ma Long plays seriously when he uses successive chops, blocks, high-toss serves, and short backhand serves before the seventh game. And it's serious when Fan Zhendong begins the match with his reverse pendulum serve.
That's got to be a tough pill to swallow for FZD. Up 8-6 in game 6 only to drop it. Up in game 7 only to do the same. I think the nerves or something must have gotten to him as he was close to clinching and finally getting over on Ma Long. He will learn from this. You can see him closing the gap. I wouldn't be surprised if 2016 is his year to claim that top spot in the world.
It was on FZD bat and it got away from him. Once he gets over his nervousness against ML at critical moments, I think he will pull away. He has all the tools right now and will only improve and then it's up to him how far he can go.
Ma Long looked tired for most of that match. At his best, I think he can still beat Fan comfortably - as in the recent World Cup - but I agree, the future is Fan's. This year seems like perhaps Ma's peak; I'm not sure he can sustain it for another 2-3 years. And Fan is now clearly world number 2.
It's clear that Ma Long is getting tired in the 5th game onwards. I guess his match with Zhang Jike wore him down quite a bit Ma Long vs Fan Zhendong = speed, touch, variation VS speed and power
Fan looks so dominant and confident in the beginnings of the 6th and 7th games that he starts believing that he's unstoppable and loses concentration and determination.

It is this umpire again (same one causing all the fuzz in London Olympics female single final 2012). giving yellow card at 6:3 in the last game. Ask the audience, who thought that the match was being delayed? I was so puzzled by this umpire that each time she's around, I am worried that she would ruin everything. I sincerely wish that she wouldn't umpire the finals in Olympics and WTTC. Who benefited from her doing these kinds of decisions?
FZD backhand counter pace is the fastest i have ever seen, all other players just mange to counter loop his backhand pace and get away with it... this includes ma long. if you see FZD backhand side spin flick u may notice his that his bat is almost parallel to the table at the point of contact, this makes most of the difference

I haven't seen ML have this much trouble with FD in a long time!! I really wanted to see XX play him but this match was exquisite!!!!
