This is clearly old footage, he’s got the frame for 155lbs or 170lbs here and the longish hair, I would say this is somewhere close to the Khabib fight because his hair is the same style here as around that time but it could also be around the time of his Cowboy fight. Conor is twice the size now and besides I don’t think he’s fully cleared from his doctors to all out roll like this yet
Edit: a lot of delusional people in this comment section lmao
Edit 2: hahahhahaa I told you delusional kids. Look at the new sparring footage of Conor he’s just uploaded which is actually of him recently. A lot more stockier than he was in this old clip, a lot more stuck in the mud, different hair and visible scar. Bunch of clowns the lot of yous, I told you

Not sure why the guy who had insane timing and precision trains like that going against previous methodologies hes had. He always had a flowy style to his fighting even his grappling (like when he swipped nate diaz) which he shows here even if its against a guy whos lower level than him but not sure why hes strayed in his striking. Who knows maybe one day we'll see that flowy style again.

He hits a slick outside to inside single, hits the knee drag, gets the hands on the mats, anticipates the counter rotation and grabs the ankle, his coach turns in to break the hold, he picks the ankle up and stops the rotation, turns the corner under the arm and drives for the finish, floats straight into side control. Actually no it’s pretty useless, u can use it to snap out opponent down and transition it into holding the traps. Other than that it’s super useless to just leave your hand on their head. If anything it leaves you very exposed to ur opponents offense as it can lead to them using a 2 on 1 or they could just push ur elbow up and leave u at the mercy of a single leg/ high crotch. That’s why my wrestling coach says to only put ur hand on their head for no more than 2 seconds.

you don't learn wrestling. it's something you have to grind and grind. conor will never be good at wrestling because he doesn't have the stamina. he might be able to stuff some takedowns but every opponent of his knows by now to keep the pressure on him and he will eventually gas out. Conor's downfall is he moved up a weight class (bigger dudes, many who walk around at 175-180 lbs) whereas in the featherweight division, he was fighting much smaller overall guys. And then after the fight with Floyd, he stopped focusing on MMA and relied on his boxing constantly hunting for the head shots.

Conor always had pretty great takedown defence from his movement training. Stuffed a lot of Khabib, Chad and all of Eddie's takedown attempts but because Chad was a D1 wrestler and Khabib one of the most relentless and best wrestlers in the UFC, he still got taken down so it hid how good he'd still done. All the same though, he's about 4 years too late focusing on this now, unless he's serious about reaching Colby, Usman and Khamzat level wrestlers, in which case fair play and hope he does well.

My question for Conor has always been..what great wrestler does he train with? Based on watching him his wrestling is not bad at all. I know he isn’t a wrestler but he continues to work at it, which is admirable. Objectively speaking, while also being a college level wrestler myself, he looks about as good and a varsity high school kid in California (slightly above average skill level) which says a lot for someone who never wrestled competitively. I think he needs to really work his grappling with some high level guys (if he isn’t already I could be full of shit 😂) then his game will be at a much higher level.

The fact that the man never needs to leave his house or yacht a day in his life and has enough money for his entire bloodline and then some and just came off a gruesome injury and is already back to training in mixed martial arts should tell you something. You can say whatever you want about Conor but he is a true martial artist and will go down as a legend!

Not a fan of the guy but to have the money like he does and still to train with a history of broken leg. Massive respect

Looking good. I wish he would go back to playing touch butt in the park with Edo too. He was so sharp when he was doing that.

Even tho McGregor is a striker originally, there’s quite a bit of things he does good but as a wrestler myself, I wish we’d see him use more hip pressure and pick up that ankle more when they have a single leg so the opponent can’t step up & through for the takedown or to get the back

    • @robinbergfeld5140
      @robinbergfeld5140 ปีที่แล้ว

      How does that work? Hip-pressure?

McGregor could "feel good" about his wrestling with his sparring partners but his opponent will be completely different .

@@jhosserivera7162 yeah + hes not wrestling people who are world class like the guys hes facing. He needs to switch camps and find one that will work on things like setups rather than just throwing combos and sitting on the outside. He had his most success when he threw traps and then countered (example being aldo).

Finally looks half decent. Doesn’t seem like he’s doing it for the camera either this time. Shocking. Could he really come back? I think it’s possible now. Time will tell.

Conors new body builder frame may make him slower but it could benefit with in the wrestling department.

Remember Josh Thompson talking about the Khabib fight. He said McGregor did the best against Khabib when it came to defensive grappling. McGregor is a great grappler just never uses it

He only trains with yes-men now. He needs to learn that iron sharpens iron and that every fighter needs a master. He is not washed due to age or damage, but because he has become his own coach and is undisciplined

I hope we get a motivated Connor in his comeback. Hopefully more mindful of his Fighting stance, and brings back that carefully crafted sniper striking.
He probably has another 3 good years until his top level will wilt away with age.
