However, conor, in particular, has been practicing BJJ for over 12 years.
I don't know about others but the skill of some practicioners is polarizing to some degree. Then, some outshine others completely. Do Bronx is a top tier BJJ practicioner and muay thai striker but cannot match his skills with a top tier wrestling striker in Islam.

You would think anyone who's not less than a casual would know that once you get to such a high level of grappling, unless you are exponentially more skilled than the other opponent (not accounting for factors such as fatigue in the fight, damage taken etc), grappling usually cancels itself out. It's the reason why wrestlers don't shoot on each other (ie: Usman and Covington).
Edit: Also, this is Mcgregor's Last couple opponents. Dustin Poirier: Skilled black belt. Donald Cerrone: Skilled black belt. Khabib: Incredible wrestler. Eddie Alvarez: who cares. Nate Diaz: Skilled black belt. Jose Aldo: Skilled black belt - but fight ended very quickly so we'll never know. Please tell me why a purple/brown belt at the time would go to the ground with any of these opponents other than Eddie Alvarez 😂 such a casual.
