I was wondering how do you change the bulbs in the cluster? I need to change them on my w110 because there is very little lighting in it

Hi, thx for the nice video, but I was afraid that you make a short circuit on a battery, because you 're keeping tools on it !!

Hello thank you for the video… i have a w111 with no light in the cluster… do I need to pull the cluster like this to chance the lightbulb?

You have no lights at all? If that's the case I would first start with the fuse box. And be careful, even though a fuse might look good, it may not be. I do have a video up on how to service a fuse box. Once you've eliminated the fuse as a possibility, check your headlight switch. It's possible that could have gone bad. But to answer your question: yes, to change bulbs in the cluster you do need to remove it.

Hi Michael - Thanks for your video. I have a W110 190D 1962. The instrument cluster light bulbs are not working. thanks for your great video. Now I am confident on removing the instrument cluster.
I also need to replace all the bushings on the 4 speed manual shift linkage. Do you have any videos on that??
    John

Hi John. You're welcome! Sorry, I don't have a video of that yet. I film whatever I happen to be working on at the moment, but the next time I get a Fintail in my shop I'll try to make a bushing replacement video. Someone was kind enough to post PDFs of all of the Ponton/Fintail service manuals online. Here is the link. Just scroll down to where it says "Passenger Cars Starting August 1959" and you find it in two volumes. Cheers! www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/books/literature.htm

Hi Michael, Thank you for the video. I have a 1964 300SE that I am restoring into a vintage rally racer I need to remove the instrument cluster to replace the dash pad. This video is a big, big help. If you have any advice for dash pad replacement I would be thrilled to receive it. Cheers. Paul

You're welcome, Paul. I assume you're asking about removing the dash pad? That can be a bit tricky because there are two hidden nuts at the corners which require peeling up the upholstery and foam to access. I really do best over the telephone. Email me at msben88@yahoo.com and we can get in touch.

Hello Michel. First of all, thank you for the very useful video. I'm restoring a 67 230S fintail from bodywork to mechanical issues. Your video has helped me greatly in removing the cluster to replace all light bulbs plus restoring the heating core, replacing cables and refinishing the dashboard which I don't know how to do or the materials to use. Any advice? Thanks again! Ed

Thank you for watching. Refinishing the dash pad is very tricky work and will require a lot of trial and error among other things, like a vinyl press. There are companies that you can find online that refinish dash pads. I think that's your best bet.
