Mercedes R107 instrument cluster repair, circuit board, needles and gauges

This is a detailed video showing how to remove the temperature, oil pressure and fuel gauges from the instrument cluster circuit board on an early R107 Mercedes SL. The video also gives various methods for removing the instrument gauge needles should you wish to paint or repair them. The end of the video shows where you can get new instrument cluster bulb holders together with the paint you can use to refurb the gauge needles.

Your videos are always very helpful. Thank you very much. Based on my experience on my W116, the fuel gauge and fuel sender unit must be compatible. If you just replace one of them, you might need a shop to adjust them together. One easy test is removing the fuel sender unit from the tank then undo the bottom nut and remove the long aluminum cover. Then manually move up and down the weight and check the position of the fuel gauge needle. Also this is a good time to clean the sender unit inside and I'm pretty sure you need to do that.
