      Thank you very much Eric! It would be mostly the same on a W108, just a little bit trickier because you don't have the electric temp gauge. Take a look at the end of my movie, beginning at 10:45, where I try to show the older version of the temp gauge. I'll see if I can come up with a similar video of my W108. /Peter

    so the cluster unit has no clips or bolts holding it in? does it pull out easy by hand? cheers 1971 250 W114.

    • @Pexyz
      @Pexyz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andy! No, it has no bolts or clamps. Try first to pull it out by hand. Pull it straight. But they can sit pretty hard sometimes, so maybe you will have to bend carefully with some kind of tools to release it. If so, bend from both sides at the same time, to let it out straight. You shold be okay. You should also check out my video #35 which also shows instrument cluster, the older type, which is more correct for your -71. Thanks for watching and good luck! /Peter

    I have a nonfunctioning temp guage on my 1968 280S W108, I haven't tried to replace it, but I'm told it's mechanical. Does that mean I can't just replace the sending unit? Not quite sure what my best option is...perhaps aftermarket? Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @shed911cookiesgarage2
      @shed911cookiesgarage2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for your car you will need a complete unit which is: temp sensor that screws into engine block above spark plug 3, long mercury capillary tube which goes all the way through to the engine bay and which is attached to the temp gauge itself. It is do-able but is tricky and you'll need to find a complete assembly including gauge, wire and sensor. If you are not too concerned about purity you can install an electric temp monitor which is much cheaper, more reliable and easier to install.

    • @Pexyz
      @Pexyz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Todd and thanks for watching and commenting! At the end of this movie I show the type of temp gauge and sensor that you have in your car. Watch from 10:45 and then at 12:04 I show the complete assembly of the older type. If you want to stick to original you must replace the whole assembly, just as "M" describes in his (or her) comment. Hope you find a solution! The 280 S W108 is a great car.

    good mornin... question.. have replaced original fuel pump on my 1971 250 with new after market type.. when I fitted new pump it fired up and ran.. left sitting for couple days noticed no fuel in fuel filter bottle tried starting again but not drawing fuel through.. original unit was vertical setup with piston paddle mechanism.. new pump is straight piston type and lays horizontally when attached to side engine block.. would this affect the fuel flow?
    Andy.

    • @Pexyz
      @Pexyz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andy and thanks for watching! You have the correct type of pump. Later versions of W114/W115 had those straight pumps from the factory, so you're okay. I guess your problem is somewhere else then. Have you blown air through the feed pipe from the tank? Blow from front and backwards. Maybe it's clogged. Threre are also big problems with modern rubber fuel hoses and modern fuel. So check the hoses, even if they're almost new. Also make sure your new pump is working okay, sometimes one can have bad luck and receive faulty new parts. /Peter

      Is it confirmed that those two plugs are for fiber optics? One of the two wires came out of the upper plug in my cluster. I was expecting perhaps an electrical problem, but haven’t noticed any. Fiber optics in 1976?! Pretty ahead of things.
