I respect the watch community opinion because often they have valuable experience with a brand and can give insights. I've seen a good number of quality issues with Tags over the last 10 years or longer. They're making better watches again now though
@Armando Sturzenegger exactly. I have an Link 36 & an Aquagraph. No problems whatsoever. I also own a JLC Master Compressor, a Zenith, a Glycine Airman with the Valgrange, an Omega PO Chrono Coaxial & an AP RO. I'm happy to wear the Tags. The 36 has my favourite bracelet and its El Primero movement is more reliable than in my Zenith Rainbow. The Aquagraph is a well designed tank of a watch. They're reliable and I don't mind wearing them in situations where I'd never wear a JLC or AP. Ive been a watch enthusiast for decades. I couldn't give a shit what the watch community thinks because it's full of dumb snobs. The resale value of Tags is terrible of course so buy them to wear.
I have a tag and Rolex, buy what ever the hell you want. You shouldn’t give a shit what the watch community thinks most of them can’t even afford half the watches they hate on.
So true and I agree with you. I just got my second Heuer "Montreal" and Wow the design, materials and workmanship are excellent. The size and proportion is perfect at 39mm. I say buy the watch first and then the brand second. Many are caught up with what's selling, what holds value, profit, collectability, image and want to impress others but themselves. Buy what makes you happy and enjoy what you find unique and interesting.
Same here.. had a Tag Carrera few years ago and a Rolex Batman few weeks ago.. happy with both and wear both.. I never heard about that hate against Tag unless few months ago and I really don’t know why !
I’ve owned a Tag Heuer for 36 years and it’s still going strong. It takes a lot of punishment and still works like a charm. I think the company lost a lot of customers when they went larger with the men’s watches and neglected the smaller wrist sizes.
You're exactly right. I would like an Aquaracer in the worst way, but their current dimensions absolutely will not fit me. It makes me feel like a child again and not in a good way.
I've had one since 1991 and it has been in for routine cleaning and servicing 3 times. Other than that, it works as well today as it did when it was new.
Have you see any of the top SOTC posts on r/watches ? LOL. They _are_ the same five watches: Rolex Sub, Omega Speedmaster, some boring Nomos and a G-Shock because "you have to have one."
@@Mister_Phafanapolis very popular watches, very recognisable design, and that get you a lot of karma 😅 Going to such big subreddit and finding that you got Rolex/Tudor, Omega and the rest.
I have a TAG, Rolex and Tudor and honestly I just rotate through them kinda based on my mood and what I’m wearing. It’s a very well made time piece. My only complaint is it’s quite bulky but I kinda knew that going in because it’s a Carrera. Wear what you like, don’t listen to haters.
Not sure i get the video , if you buy it , you mist like it ! If not why buy it , time piece are to be worn and use. I have 4 different brand and i dont give a shite what people think of the brand i like .
It's just a shame people call it a "TAG". Or that it's called "TAG Heuer". Heuer made some classic and timeless watches. The TAG acquisition ruined the brand IMO.
Pokémon talk: I think the reason that most people hate on bulbasaur is that the first 3 gyms all don’t do well against grass, so bulbasaur is seen as playing on easy mode. Fire gets wrecked by the first two gyms so picking a fire type is more like playing on hard mode
My starter watch was a Tag Heuer Formula 1. I always wanted a Tag because it was what my Dad had and I was thrilled when I finally got mine. Regardless of what the watch community says about them I will always cherish my Tag even with the issues that brand has had. Its about how the watch makes you feel.
My first watch was they formula 1 too black a gold (also have the blue a) and gold too ) but since then my son has showed interest to watches and I'm will be gifting him one for his 16th sthank you sharing your story
TAG Heuer is as recognisable as Rolex. Before I was “into” watches, TAG Heuer and Rolex were all I knew. When I though of High end watches, these are the two brands that came to mind.
@@leoi3031 there you said it ,TAG not Heuer . The problem is TAG not Heuer . McRolex any one ? TAG , ( Technic Avant Garde ) should never of altered the identity of Heuer.
@@joshsmith7812 Yes they saved them , but they didn’t have to stick their name on the watches. Plancpain was a dead brand , until JCB revived the brand at a much higher price point . He could remove the TAG and bring back Heuer as it was. TAG has nothing to do with watches since 1999 and is and was a holding company . TAG isn’t even TAG today.
I've owned several Tags for quite a few years, and have never had a problem with them. I own over 60 watches and consider Tag Heuer to be excellent buys.
Apart from a swatch and an Apple watch they're the cheapest watches I own and they're also damn reliable. Servicing is cheap and they don't need much of it. They don't deserve the hate.
I've had my F1 Chronograph for 8 years now. It's only changed batteries twice in 8 years continuous running. Keeps very good time. I set it with my cell phone to the second and checked it 3 wks later, off by only 17 seconds.
As someone who owns a Tag Heuer and is a fan of the brand, it is still understandable why they are so relived. Its a mix of their overly dumbed down "mainstream" marketing and snobbery from the collector community. Alongside Rolex, Omega and Brietling, it is one of those watch brands that literally everyone knows. You will be surprised how many people aren't even aware of the "holy trinity" (AP, Patek and Vacheron Constantin) but are familiar with Tag. TH has really leaned in on the brand recognition and has tended to push hard on the brand and release relatively mediocre/average watches alongside more interesting pieces. This, alongside the snobbery of "enthusiasts" and collectors for overly mainstream watches has led to Tag being looked down by the collector community. It also hasn't helped that Tag tends to throw in ebauche ETA movements into the majority of their watches but charge in-house or near in-house prices. Nor has the fact that they tried to pull the wool over consumers' eyes multiple times with their marketing, such as by claiming that the 1887/Heuer 01 movement was a design they developed themselves rather than one purchased from Seiko (great movement by the way, a very impressive, modern column wheel - love it in my 1887 Carrera). But also to be fair to Tag, everyone in the market does this - from Bremont claiming a La Joux Perret movement as being "in house" to Breguet re-purposing an old Longines/Lemania movement as their "in-house" workhorse. At the end of the day however, I doubt Tag are losing any sleep over this - their mainstream appeal and recognition has only helped inflate their market share and - moreso than more "Premium" brands in the group like Zenith and Hublot - has strengthened its position as the flagship of LVMH's stable of watchmakers. They have more market share than Brietling, IWC and twice that of Vacheron Constantin by value.
Maybe online only. Tag is one of the most recognisable with Rolex. Fact. Tag has patented tech in there watches. 40 Years more history than rolex. There heritage stands alone. There connection with motoring Le mans, F1, ferrari, Porsche etc, Senna. Endorsed by Hollywood. Dicaprio, Gosling Bradd pitt. It's unrivalled. And don't forget they're owned by Luis Vuitton Moet Hennesy. The biggest luxury brand in the world.
@@skye1868 I agree completely - it is incredibly popular with mainstream consumers. But with a majority of serious watch collectors, both online and offline, there is quite a lot of prejudice against the brand once it became "TAG" Heuer. Part of this is that they abandoned their traditional watches (classics like the Carrera were discontinued for decades) for more "fashiony" watches in the 80s and the 90s (e.g. Link, Kirium and the plastic F1s), and the "resurrection" of more serious and respectable designs happened quite a bit later than other brands. This leads a lot of collectors to view the TAG period as separate from the Heuer era. This is a bit unfair as TAG were not watchmakers and all of the Heuer expertise was retained - unlike say Breitling and Hamilton (or even Breguet for that matter) where only the brand name survived bankruptcy/sale. Part of this is unfair - Heuer had to do what it can to survive, and they aren't the only ones who made tacky watches in that period and abandoned their heritage, because that's what sold. For example, its much more "respectable" stablemate Zenith tried to scrap its tooling for the El Primero movement and other brands like Longines went all quartz in the 80s. ' But they also continue to make a lot of lazy, basic watches and sell them at a premium, which is another reason why collectors turn their nose up. Their use of dodgy marketing hasn't helped. The smoke and mirrors about the Seiko design in the 1887/Heuer 01 being a prime example - there was nothing to be embarrassed about, the Seiko 6S78 movement was made for Seiko's Credor line, which sits with/slightly above tjeor Grand Seiko and is one that can stand with the very best of Swiss design. But lying about it came off as massively scummy. It also hasn't done as well in Asia (which now accounts for a significant proportion of the market) than some of the other mid-range brands, which has led it to fall behind Longines, IWC and even Tissot in market share.
@@phmwu7368 for "younger" fans, it's TAG Heuer that resonates more. From the very prominent McLaren/Senna relationship to the current relationship they have with Red Bull Racing/Verstappen, and they're still the official watch of the Monaco GP. I didn't know anything about Heuer before I got into watches apart from decals I'd see on Lauda's Ferrari.
I personally love Tag Heuer and have from been young. They have always been the one that catches my eye when I look through a shop window. And a few months ago I finally bought my first Tag Heuer. Some watch snobs might critise it and even more so that the one I bought is a Quartz but I don’t care I absolutely love it and I could happily wear it every day
I’ve been reading some of the comments, and find it appalling the way some people seem to attach their self esteem to their perceived knowledge of watches, and crap on other people for their enjoyment of a brand. If you own a Tag, and love the experience, don’t listen to these insecure and shallow people.
Absolutely correct Herman!! I don't know why people do that, especially if they never owned the brand. You buy a car because of personal preference, why is a watch any different. Basically, to each their own, stop with the hating!!
Thanks for your comment. I'm stuck listening to these insecure and shallow people. Despite my conscious effort, I am unable to overcome this. Do you have any thing (an exercise or some tool) that could help me to stop valuing these opinions so much that they prevent me from enjoying things for their own sake? Anything constructive would be a great help. Thanks!
I don't hate any brands not even Invicta, Tag are often the first "expensive" watch that people buy and can introduce them to the hobby for that reason alone they have their place.
I purchased a TAG mechanical watch for both of my sons on there graduation. It gave them a star in the mechanical watch pool. So far they haven't purchased a SMART watch...so maybe AI di okay..
You’re right. Tag was my first ‘expensive’ watch. I wore that watch for 10 or 11 years. Since then, I’ve gotten deeper into the hobby. I’ve built a decent collection and an appreciation for the finer watches. I still like my Aquaracers though. I suppose Tag introduced me to the hobby... Love the ‘new’ Autavia BTW
@Tom The Fish indeed there are plenty of better alternatives at this price point but TAG seem to be more widely available than most other brands at least here in the UK. They have even started pop-up stores I've seen two appear in local malls. Pushing their new smart watch heavily though. As others have said personally I only lust after a Monaco but would prefer the El Primero for similar money
I remember when I bought my first Tag I loved it. My dad bought it for me! It was 1200 bucks haha I still have it. That’s what started me in the watch world. Now I have a Rolex datejust 41 a Rolex sub hulk and a beautiful Omega seamaster
For some reason I love the aquaracer line, old or new. They have their own take on the diver category and whether its quartz or Automatic, they look stunning
If you haven't seen it already, Urban Gentry does a nice video on TAG Heuer that includes a tour of their facilities. I am new to the watch hobby but I have no problem buying a TAG. If you like it that's all that matters.

Tabe is on point here. If you weren't ending up with a Flying/Fire type in the age before Dragons were ubiquitous, then you certainly deserved that quartz Tag Heuer and all the criticism that came with it when you evolved into an adult! (Note: it was not super effective)
I've had my Aquaracer Calibre 5 for about 3 years and I love it. I got lucky and won it in a raffle, back when I didn't know much about watches. It's what sparked my interest in watches in the first place. I think it looks quite stunning in person, and I have to admit I feel a little bit of joy every time I see one of those Chris Hemsworth billboards featuring my watch :P
Sheep mentality. Tag Heuer has a great history. Make some great watches. Even TH-camrs get swayed by hype. Imagine Tudor several years back was a whatever watch and now? Rolex owns them and they OUT spend everyone in marketing to make sure you follow. Genius. Sheep follow
@@CaptainThugRdx Imagine not being able to make an argument without resorting to strawman. I own an atomic based g-shock which is very accurate. The reason Tag started to sell more cheaper quartz is to make more money at the cost of their reputation. It isn’t a “high quality” quartz lmao.

Whoever "hates" TH is a weirdo. This brand has strong brand name recognition, almost on par with Rolex. Connection to motorsport is strong. Steve McQueen Monaco watch is classic, in Gulf colors or the other racing colors. The Heuer 02 movement is modern and precise. Carrera watches are fabulous, especially the limited editions which are totally worth the money with the H02 movement. Autavia is beautiful. I would love to buy an Autavia if it had H02 movement. Tag Heuer is a legit brand.
@Broadway Joe certainly, like many other things, often it is all about brand name. That's OK. There is still different look and feel and that is what counts. My most favorite watch now is my Garmin Fenix 6X Pro, I wear it almost 24/7. :-)
Steve McQueens watch was a Heuer not a TAG Heuer, wasn't till the mid 80s they merged. Whoever confuses Heuer with TAG Heuer is even weirder!!. And almost on par with Rolex!! ...REALLY!!!, facts prove otherwise. But delusional people often get confused so your swipe at Rolex is forgiven!
Well said. I love my Omega SMPc (41mm, black lacquer dial) and my Tag Heuer Carrera Heuer 01 (43mm, non-skeleton dial). I wear Omega with a suit on a daily basis and Tag with casual attire when I drive my sports cars. I'm a car enthusiast who likes watches.
I've bought my Tag Heuer nearly 10 years ago as my first luxury watch. It is two-tone vintage 3000 Chronometer and I absolutely love this undeservedly forgotten series. We're about same age and it've seen lots of things happening to both of us. Its not about the watch community, its about you, your style and story behind!
When I started watch collecting I also had the same bad opinion about Tag, but I believe it was mostly influenced by all the hate on the internet. Nowadays I’ve got two tags and I must admit that I really enjoy them. Of course, it’s not the best brand ever and it’s not even intended to be, but in my opinion it delivers the expected quality for the price paid.
IF you ever tried to sell them thats when the hating would start. I know some people don't care about value retention but many times I have had to break it to someone that their Tag is worth very little despite how much they paid for it. They are not good sellers secondhand and that makes it feel very frustrating to sell (unless you have a Steve McQueen Monaco and then you'd have a chance)

Tag Heuer isnt hated. LVMH is hated. Tag Heuer is a victim of Jack Heuer having the company sold under him to a Investment company, fused with Tag Avaganrd which was a Formula 1 Turbo manufacturer and then make for years to sell horrible Plastic Formula 1 junk quartz watches, then resold to LVMH which turned it to a crap fashion brand which just sold Carrearas with Elaborate 7750 and Poorly made dive watches with elaborate 2824, then they canceled the in house Calibre 1969 and decided to try to pass the Seiko 6S37 as a In house Calibre 1887. while LVMH constantly disprespects its flagship brand (Zenith) and tries to push a crap "we play with ceramics" PoS brand like Hublot as their top of the line product. I have owned TAG Heuer watches for 40 years. The brand has certainly wavered on its brand identity over the decades but when it comes to some of the most classic and well made watches I stand with TAG Heuer. I have never had any issues with any of my six watches.
Just started watching this channel. The presentation style is refreshing and calming at the same time. Like her approach towards sharing her opinion respectfully, without seeming to force it upon the rest of us.
Tag was my first Swiss made watch. I bought mine 33 years ago (SL chronograph/ quartz). I still own and wear it. Its always maintained by Tag for the occasional battery replacement or overhaul. It never really broke and is a very reliable timepiece. Ive owned rolexes pateks etc. This watch in particular has seen many milestones in my life and i will never sell it. Everything else was sold or replaced. As far as im concerned Tag is a solid brand. 3+ decades of reliability and quality is a testament to that. Nowadays i wear it on special occassions or when major deals are happening. I will be buying the special edition Senna formula 1 caliber 16 automatic as a 3 decade tribute to my original SL.
My personal experience with tag has been extremely positive. My father has had one for as long as I can remember, my brother has had his for at least 10 years, and I have had mine for 4+. We all have aqua racers, the quality is top notch, none of us have ever had issues, and we all love our watches. This is just my own anecdotal experience but I personally don’t agree with the complaints made against the brand
TAG Heuer are far after the point where question turns from ‘what’s wrong with TAG Heuer’ into ‘what’s wrong with people who hate TAG Heuer’. Really. Slowly, kinda in the background, they became (or returned to) a state of a good brand that produces good watches.
I always wanted a Tag heuer! I saw adverts from Tag Heuer with Tiger Woods wearing the LINK line that time. I fell in love with the wrist band. With 18 my mum let me chose between a notebook and a Tag heuer... I was in school... and a Notebook was more important and useful at that time. So 6 years later... I had money saved.... and could get myself a limited edition Tag Heuer Senna Edition Chronograph... ( Based on the formula series) it’s a Quartz Watch... and it cost only 1200€ but I‘m still enjoying it everytime I’m wearing it. Love it!
My wife wore a quartz TAG for over fifteen years, very relieable. A friend got a new mechanical TAG chronograph and he is very happy with it. One should not worry to much what strangers think or say, but rather try out what works for you. Grandma always said "Do what you want, people will always talk". And to prove my point: my EDC is a Tudor P01 - and i love it.
Always loved TAGs. It was one of the first premium watches I came accross and I can't seem to find any discrepancies in quality after seeing other premium brands. Rock solid and sharp design. And of course, F1.
I absolutely love TAG Heuer watches. I have friends with Omega and Rolex watches that are much more high value, yet my watch (Carrera Calibre 5) looks nicer and feels higher quality
Tag Heuer is a strange one. Lots of people do hate them, yet the 1960's Carrera chronograph is one of the most beautiful watches ever made. A classic design.
The hate is on the internet, by probably people getting endorsements from other brands. I'm a watch collector and I can guarantee you tag heuer watches have serious demand
60s Carrera were not technically a Tag Heuer, it is a 'Heuer' I agree that classic Heuer including Carrera are very beautiful. Modern Tag Heuer? Well....
@@vincentiuskennaldy9512 Yeah, I understand that, but it's still Tag Heuer/ Heuer. You wouldn't call Omega a Swatch. When I grew up, I have always fascinated by automatic watches and I slowly collected some low end brands. As I got older and married, I still love automatic watches and on my birthday my wife surprised me with my first luxury watch, a TAG Heuer Carrera Twin-Time Calibre 7 Automatic. I've owned/own dozens, including the Heuer that ya have on your wrist for this video. Having collected for 43+ years, spending 18+ in the business with the last 9+ of those as a certified Master Horologist, I've sold, traded, worked on and owned to many to count. I've covered both the pre-TAG Heur and post-TAG years, and I've covered them in depth in various FB groups, so I won't get into it here cept to say that most of those commenting have never even tried a TAG on, much less owned one. And no, quartz had nothing to do with it because if you go back and look at the Link Collection, which took the watch world and regular world by storm in the late 90's(in my FB coverage I go into this), and those majority of those were mechanical pieces, not quartz. Anyone that lays the blame on quartz I would immediately dismiss as they have no idea what they are talking about. If ya speak to people that OWNED/OWN a TAG, their quality is fine. Not perfect, though nowhere near an issue worth discussing Stay Well, Continued Success & drop into the groups sometime🍻 RP
Hi RP Jake. As one who is not into luxury watches but find myself reading up on it more lately, I'm happy to read your in depth post. Where may I find the information you have put together?
I think the Tag Heuer designs are ugly. I love vintage Heuer designs. And the only new Tag Heuer watches I like are the Heuer reissues. At the end of the day, wear what you like.
30 years ago I was gifted a TAG Heuer 1500. I wore that watch and treated it like a Casio for the first 20 years. It still keeps perfect time and is covered with battle scars. It still looks good, has patina from sailing, boarding, flying, diving, motorcycling, working construction, etc. I semi retired it as I started worrying I would actually break it and or lose it. Not much else in my life has been such a constant companion so it has earned a rest. Now it goes on my wrist for special occasions.
The (Tag) Heuer Monaco is still one of the most beautiful watches ever and that fact alone justifies the brand to me as a very serious player on the luxury watches market.
I have a quartz Formula 1 that my dad gave me 10 years ago. Tag is a brand that non-watch people know, and whenever I wear it people tend to ask me about it more often than any of my 'cooler' mechanical watches.
I would feel embarassed to wear a Tag for it's supposed reputation that you're referring to. Non-watch people like them, watch people hate them, where is the logic?
@@SimulatorWhiz the logic is that if you look at the quality of the watches they are very well made. In-house is not a more reliable movement, but well tested movements that's improved by craftmanship is something that will last and can be serviced by any watchmaker. That durability and their design is what intruiges non-watch people. You can spot a tag from afar, that to me is worth something and sonething was done right. People buy a tag to use the watch, not putting it in a safe like they do with their omegas hoping they gain value.
@@Nicolailund15 Using Omega for that ridiculous point just shows how oblivious you are. My Omegas are worn out from how much they are in use, and people tend to go for Omega for that reason! Non-watch people buy Tags because they think it's value for money but in fact would be better off with an Orient which is better made and more aesthetically pleasing.
@@SimulatorWhiz shrug, it's not my favorite watch in my collection but it's a sporty looking chronograph and has its place. I don't wear any of my watches to impress anyone else, I've just noticed that people mention the Tag more than other pieces
There has been a concerted and misinformed campaign by watch snobs to not only discredit, but to help bring on the destruction of Tag Heuer. This is not based on any substantial facts or empirical evidence, but more of an emotional response to their advertising image and " Mall Watch" status. At the end of the day, Tag has tremendous history, innovative spirit and link to being an official timer to important sporting events. More people line up to defend Invicta than they do to defend Tag, which is absurd. I think the fact that Tag , a brand with long swiss heritage and a certain amount of prestige, can be found at your local mall turns people off. Guess what, I've seen Omegas at certain high end Macy's chains, or Rolex on Amazon and no one bats an eye at that. My advice, Grow up people, do some research and stop falling for baseless conspiracies.
I'm not the most informed watch buyer, however what turned me off to tag was I was looking at them and kept seeing quartz watches for over 1000. With so many other brands out there offering automatic watches well below 1000 dollars I just didnt see a reason to buy a tag.

So, once started working as an automotive designer, I purchased my first TAG.. I love it to this day. Thanks for your thoughts..
A friend in the watch trade said don't buy a TAG if you want it to make or even hold its money, only buy it if you like it. And if you end up not liking it & sell it, expect a BIG loss! Unless you buy it trade because he had picked a few up really cheap.
Or simply buy them for the right price even at the AD. If you good in negotiations you can get >25% discount. If you sell it then later your hit not will be so big.
When buying the watch you “like”; don’t... don’t... fucking ask the watch community about it. As always a fantastic video. Excuse the brutal language, I’m an Australian.
The thing about Tag Heuer is, when you buy one of them, you can be sure finding it much cheaper in somewhere else. It has so many dealers and gray market...
It's crazy how much cheaper they are in gray markets. They also don't retain their value well at all (I read somewhere they lose half their value as soon as you walk out of the store). Buy a Tag because you love the watch. Don't buy one thinking it will be a good future investment.
My dad really likes Tag Heuer, he particularly fell in love with Cobb's wrist-watch in Inception; which happens to be a Tag Heuer, hence I bought it for him. I think they milk their heritage with Senna, but understandably so does Omega with their Moonwatch Limited Editions. I think at the end of the day, you buy what makes you happy - it doesn't need a justification for anybody else. I wear the smallest Cartier Tank, and often people remark on how tiny my wrist watch is; doesn't affect me, I'm not wearing one to please anybody else. Buy what you like, don't buy the hype.
Recently I got into an argument with an acquaintance because he was complaining about the gift his wife gave him, that was a TAG Heuer Formula 1. He argued that the watch was cheap and didn't even have Sapphire Crystal, I tried to explain him that it was a entry level for the brand but a very good quartz watch with a fair piece of history by itself but he insisted that it was a cheap watch that didn't compare with Rolex and that TAG should be ashamed of it. So as you said, people love hating. People are materialist and focus in status and showing off rather than please themselves. The guy clearly haven't a clue of what he was talking about, because he even didn't knew the differences between mechanical and quartz watches and the market position of the brands. Imagine, compare Rolex to TAG Heuer, go figure? Anyhow, I sure like TAG Heuer specially Carrera and Monaco models and at any point in life still going to have one. :)
The "hate" against TAG Heuer reminds me of a small gang of bullies and all the unsecure bystanders joining the "gang" in fright of being a target themselves. Like all other brands TAG Heuer has made some models that is not so good looking but they have also made some really beautiful and reliable wathes. Personally I like the simple style. The TAG Heuer Link series or Omega Seamaster, Breitling Chronomat (one dial) all in stainless steel.
I have a Tag Grand Carrera, Own some Omegas, Rolex Datejust & Sub. My Grand Carrera is the best out of all of them. Not only is the steel band more comfortable than any of the other brands, the design, thickness, polish, even weight is almost perfect in every way. Just my two cents. I never had issues with my Tag and it is a fantastic watch.
I had 3, I sold them to make way for others. Not because I didn't like them, they were fine. I just don't need a pot load of watches. If I ran the company I'd consider keeping Tag Heuer but running Heuer as an upmarket range. Kind of like Seiko and Grand Seiko.
@Mashbox I had a gold and steel SE Chronograph, an F1 Chronograph, black, and a 2000 series, light grey face. The F1 was a daily wear. I thought that although mid size the 2000 was a stylish watch. No real fave. I sold as I was buying a Seamaster and a Junghans.
Watchmaker here. Tag Heuer does not make nice watches. They make decent watches. One of the biggest issues I have with Tag is the inability to service or supply parts for watches made as recently as the 90"s. This is mishandled by producing too large of a variety of parts. No need to make 30 different case tubes. Look no further than Rolex on how to manage spare part manufacturing/design principles. Design the watch around the parts, not the other way around. Not sustainable.
Enthusiasts hate TAG, mainstream love it. I asked my local Watches of Switzerland which was their highest seller, they said TAG by a long way. So if their aim is profit (if only short-term), they're succeeding
I own a Tag F1 automatic, and after six years in my daily wear rotation, I couldn't be more pleased. Well built, and possibly the most accurate watch I own. I don't think, other than normal date, and DST adjustments, I've ever had to touch it. Good product, at a fair price.
My first boss had a Tag…. I knew I would own one someday……I did no research on TH-cam or from the watch community online. I took the word of a respectable person who knew what was what and actually wore one on a regular basis at work and getting his hands dirty….20 years later….I just bought my first Tag Aquaracer Automatic….They are sturdy watches with the best of movements. I have witnessed it first hand……;)
To me, it feels like TAG Heuer is Rolex gone wrong. Strong sporty looking watches, widely recognized, but completely different reactions within the watch community. I would say it is mostly TAG Heuer's own fault, but they seem to be fixing up their wrongs. Right now when I look at their catalogue, it seems like two different companies exist: modern TAG (F1, Aquaracer, connected watches) and classic Heuer (Carrera, Monaco, Autavia). I almost feel like splitting the company in to two ala Tudor and Rolex might be beneficial at this point. And team Squirtle here! - Han
Three also, SEL with the solid gold bezel chronometer, still only out by 1 second per day! A quartz mp16 and a modern 2 year old Aquaracer. All have been fantastic watches. It was the quartz side of things that did the damage I believe.
My Tag has stopped working twice and I have had it just over one year. Sent it in for repairs twice for the exact same issue. I wish I had gone with another manufacturer but I may have just gotten a poorly made device.
My freshman year of college I had a great desire for a real, nice watch. I couldn’t afford a Rolex or omega so I bought a tag formula 1 with the quartz movement on the grey market because it was the best I could afford. Four years later and it’s as solid and reliable as ever. It really scratched the itch of having a high quality time piece. It’s handsome, durable, reliable and i love it’s screw down crown. Entry level watch or not, I’m very happy with my tag to this day
I know this video is old, but I think vintage Heuer and the modern Tag Heuer are not really comparable. Their heritage is timing for motorsports. Steve McQueen in Le Mans, Niki Lauda, Mario Andretti, etc. Motorsports are bigger in Europe but I feel like the modern TAG should follow that heritage with the brand.
Had my blue aqua-racer for a year now and wouldn’t be without it. Have Sinn and Oris automatics and the Tag looks/feels on a par with them. Nice case, very crisp detail on dial. Looks pretty in any light, and versatile. Was a little nervous to buy initially because of all the online hate. So glad I bought it now though.
Jenni, I enjoy your videos. You seem wise beyond your years. This Tag Heuer video had me thinking of the Ball Watch Brand. I would love your thoughts on some of their watches, as well as the brand overall. I’ll confess I’m a Ball fan, liking them as a company, like Porsche, that “stands” for something. In the case of Ball, Accuracy under adverse conditions. Thanks and looking forward to your videos.
The problem with Tag Heuer is that the range of watches they have is too big. They have models with Selita/ETA movements that cost under 2000/3000€ and then they have models that have an in-house movement that cost over 5000 or 10000€. For example they have 2 or 3 variants of the Carrera, one cheap with ETA movement and other super expensive 5500+€ with in house movement. And that's what the people don't understand. Why they bring multiple variants of a single model in different price regions? They are a bit like Maurice Lacroix. And then they try to make as much publicity as Rolex but the most watches they have doesn't have an in-house movement, they have cheap Selita/ETA and quarz movements. Too big price range and that isn't clear for the customers.
ETA is an acclaimed movement. Crap that In house thing. Even Rolex, AP, Omega before uses JLC movement. Now everyone is bragging their in house movement. You also forgot that heuer invented the ossicillating pinion that everyone uses also the first automatic chronograp invented. Regarding the wide range Omega also has quartz movement in their line to cater affordable accurate savvy customers.
People being like sheep and not knowing a watch history is a big part of the problem. All brands go through their rough phases, some longer than others. But to dismiss Heuer because its trending as being a "bad brand" is a very big mistake. Heuer is in the early stages of getting its act together like Omega did, so I suggest people get off that Heuer hate train and make you're own minds up

Oh god, the horror.

So true and I agree with you. I just got my second Heuer "Montreal" and Wow the design, materials and workmanship are excellent. The size and proportion is perfect at 39mm.
'
But they also continue to make a lot of lazy, basic watches and sell them at a premium, which is another reason why collectors turn their nose up.
The strong history and connection to Motorsport is what leaves room in my heart for Tag Heuer.
You mean HEUER ... 1960s & 1970s vintage chronographs

Just a quick question, has the the gold on the two tone faded a lot in the 10 years?
@@ImackStudios yes, it's noticeable. But not for 10 year of my ownership, but 30+ year owerall age. You can see it on my channel
@@Daveyboyz1978 Buy pretty much any high end watch new north of 10 grand that's not a Rolex, and you will lose more then a TAG costs when you go to sell it. Also, the fact that TAG's trade so low just means never buy a new one. Take advantage of the discount, and then when you sell it for next to nothing, just remember that that's what you paid for it :)
@@Daveyboyz1978 This is a misconception... I just recently traded a TH Carerra Calibre 16 to put towards a Speedmaster and got great value for it. Not at all disappointed.
@@tricky92x when I worked in a jewellers (2000ish) we used to buy tags in for £50 each. If you have a customer then fine but many of the people who buy Tags are the kind to buy new.

As a big F1 fan, I always loved Tag Heuer as Senna wore one. So when I could finally afford one, I bought a lovely black titanium Carrara and I absolutely love it. Conscious that Tag are at the lower end of the luxury watch spectrum and agree that the brand has been diluted somewhat, but I absolutely love it, and have done for the past 7 years. Love your channel - how have I only just discovered it :)
That's a great story. I was and still am an Ayrton fan. Definitely up there with the finest F1 drivers. Wear your watch proudly, buddy.
My Aquaracer was a gift from my Dad, 2 days before he passed, 13 years ago and it was my first ‘luxury’ timepiece. It’s still as perfect now as it was when I received it. It also gave me a love for the brand.
As soon as I clapped eyes on the Carrera CAL 1887 (black and rose-gold), I had to have it! I’ve owned it for 4 years and it still gets compliments from complete strangers.
Their history is of no consequence - show me a business that hasn’t broken some eggs to make an omelette and I’ll show you a business that simply hasn’t tried hard enough.
Their items are quality and are reflected in their affordable pricing.
Sorry for you loss- I too have a Carrera Cal 1887- but with the grey dial - absolutely love it- great watch and also get compliments - I love your watch - but found a Hamilton auto pilot watch with rose gold and black goal 46m-for a great deal!
I owned a Tag Huer in 1990 and haven't owned a watch since owning a mobile phone but now is the time to buy again. . When I wore that Tag i felt like I was a SUPERSTAR everyone stopped me in the street and asked is that a real Tag in which I would reply sure is. Im just about to buy a new Aquaracer and just can't wait. The 1990's Tag was an absolute pleasure to wear and the build quality was SENSATIONAL. I wish I could afford a new Carerra like you had in the video, but the Aquaracer will have to suffice as my one and only watch
I dont blame Tag Heuer, I blame Ron Dennis that runined the brand, and then LVMH which turned it in to a cheap 2nd rate fashion brand.
This is my take, too.
Wrong. Tag Heuer is hated. Vintage Heuer is respected. Heuer is dead. Tag Heuer is trash.

Had a Tag for 20 years (Professional 2000 Automatic) and I'm more than happy on how it looks, feels and performs.
I had no idea anyone "hated" Tags. I have own several tags, my first was purchased in 1985. They all run well and look fantastic. I just don't see why anyone would hate them unless they simply don't know them.
Lots of sheep out there. That don’t know watches. Even TH-camrs. Tag Heuer has one of the greatest watch making history
I love how you can say “shit storm tent” and not only does it not sound insulting, it’s actually pleasurable
The problem is that most people will buy a speedmaster for around 5k instead of a Heuer Carrera chronograph...speedy is an icon and holds its value pretty good 😅
But everybody and their mother has a speedy. Get something different.
Gary D I agree. The Speedy is basically a watch community cliche at this point. Same with the Black Bay.

I have owned TAG Heuer watches for 40 years. The brand has certainly wavered on its brand identity over the decades but when it comes to some of the most classic and well made watches I stand with TAG Heuer. I have never had any issues with any of my six watches.
I'm thinking of getting a Tag Heuer Formula 1 Calibre 16 Automatic, would this be a good reliable watch for long term use?
@@ryadhasanahmed5443 I have had a formula 1 calibre 5 for 12 years without issue
Just started watching this channel. The presentation style is refreshing and calming at the same time. Like her approach towards sharing her opinion respectfully, without seeming to force it upon the rest of us.
Almost "Asmr watches." Alnost.
That deafening silence you hear is the sound of the 99.9% of normal people ignoring the screeched rantings of a few internerds.
I think Tag Heuer is putting out some great references lately. Even the current entry level Formula 1 quartz feels very well made!
The Pokemon analogy is part of the reason I’m subscribed. Your way of explaining things is so different and fresh! Great video, keep rising!

I think what I mean is, a company with such classic design history, did get a lot of things so wrong when Tag took over. Some of the early 90's watches ie the formula one entry levels, might have sold well, but didn't do much for their image, as a watch maker. They've always had great heritage, and design. They should have kept those classics going, along with innovation. About 15 /20 years ago they started to re introduce the 1960's Carrera, still using the name Tag Heuer the CV2113 is beautiful, stunning chronograph. Then they seemed to stop again. Now they do it just using Heuer. The identity seems split. I don't really know what I mean 😕 I don't think they deserve the hate. @@SirStamford27 i get it. But Swatch did not put their names on Omega logo / trademark like TAG did with Heuer. And their timepiece were quite restrained and composed than the modern Tag one. I love it and wearing it on a daily basis for more than five years and never have a problem. Next thing I knew, I my wife got me another TAG, and last year my lovely wife got me an Omega Aqua Tera. I still love my first TAG.
Not perfect, though nowhere near an issue worth discussing

Agree. I cant find a single design that I really like. Its (sort of) the same as Tissot... cant find a single watch I care for.
Aramis7 Haha. I totally agree with you on Tissot too. There are just some brands that people can’t connect with and that’s okay.
Ugly? Did you not notice that gorgeous Carerra in the video?
tricky92x Yes. The black dial Carrera is ugly to ME. If you like it then that’s cool. The vintage Heuer next to it is way more beautiful.
I dont think the Carrera is UGLY, but its a bit a chunky for my taste and ,above all, does not raise my heart rate one little bit.
I believe the 1500 is the "Obama" watch.
@@mtbbiker6401 I think you are correct though I couldn't care less who else wears something....
The (Tag) Heuer Monaco is still one of the most beautiful watches ever and that fact alone justifies the brand to me as a very serious player on the luxury watches market.
Totaly agree.
Still can't compare to the Holy Trinity though?
@@adjayd6567 Buddy, what kind of comparison is this supposed to be?
Do you compare 911 Carrera and Bugatti Veyron? I don’t think so.
To wear a watch for people to "spot a mile away" doesn't make sense when you're wearing a watch that people who are "in the know" are not fond of. It's like you're fueling your own ego with deception.
@@SimulatorWhiz If you feel embarrassed from what people think, you have bigger problems than a Tag watch son.
i have a Tag Heuer -Professional and was brought 28 years ago and now in 2021 Dec, it still working. Really worth it.
Jenni- Just came across this video. I'm 56, so Pokieman wasn't part of my childhood. However, Formula 1 definitely was. That sound is my childhood, despite growing up in the US.
Hahaha the ozzie part makes sense
The thing about Tag Heuer is, when you buy one of them, you can be sure finding it much cheaper in somewhere else. It has so many dealers and gray market...
It's crazy how much cheaper they are in gray markets. They also don't retain their value well at all (I read somewhere they lose half their value as soon as you walk out of the store). Buy a Tag because you love the watch. Don't buy one thinking it will be a good future investment.
My wife gave me a TAG Link about 20 some years ago i have never serviced it only battery changes and it works flawlessly .
Wearing that Tank definitely needs a lot of confidence 👍.
How sweet! A delicate combination of honesty and charm. Thank you. Have a Autavia I purchased 50yrs ago. Treasure it.
I love my 1998 Tag Link. It’s been well serviced and after 22 years it’s still like new. Such a well made watch. Love the brand.
I like Heuers' vintage stuff and the newer heritage pieces but not a fan of the newer designs
i agree that the vintage heuer's are classic in design, i just don't connect with the newer ones.
That black dial and bezel TH Carrera is ASTONISHING, whatsoever other people say. Period👌🏻
It's a copy of the Omega Speedmaster 321 'Ed White'
Enthusiasts hate TAG, mainstream love it. I asked my local Watches of Switzerland which was their highest seller, they said TAG by a long way. So if their aim is profit (if only short-term), they're succeeding
Hmm. Rolex by far sells the most. They also spend the most on marketing by a long shot. Maybe at the AD.

I owned 4 thoughtfully chosen TAG Heuer watches. The dials were well designed. Love all of them.
Owned 3 , mechanical Heuer 70's , quartz flyback chrono 90's and a certified chronometer sel 90's. All were great. No problems.
Three also, SEL with the solid gold bezel chronometer, still only out by 1 second per day! A quartz mp16 and a modern 2 year old Aquaracer. All have been fantastic watches. It was the quartz side of things that did the damage I believe.
I won a Tag watch at work years ago and have loved them ever since.
Entry level watch or not, I’m very happy with my tag to this day
Absolutely love my tag aquaracer 300 43mm. Its my daily driver and looks so cool. Large but understated . Would definitely have another.
Glad you are not a sheep! Enjoy.

Fully agree you statement
But still billionaires but tag.
Funny, normally people are glad to have a big range. Enables you to find exactly the watch according to your whims and fancies.
Very true.
